How Jordan Belfort's 37m superyacht Nadine sank off the coast of Sardinia

Coco Chanel was famously outspoken on many things, but yachting, in particular, attracted her ire. “As soon as you set foot on a yacht you belong to some man, not to yourself, and you die of boredom,” she was once quoted as saying.

Her solution was to buy her own yacht. A 37m with a steel hull, built by the Dutch yard Witsen & Vis of Alkmaar. The yacht passed through many hands, finally ending up belonging to the Wolf of Wall Street, Jordan Belfort, on whose watch she foundered and sank in 1996.

The yacht was originally built for a Frenchman under the name Mathilde , but he backed out and she caught Chanel’s eye instead. With a narrow beam, a high bow and the long, low superstructure typical of Dutch yachts of her era, she was certainly a beautiful boat. But she was also well equipped, with five staterooms in dark teak panelling, magnificent dining facilities, room for big tenders and, later, a helipad. A frequent sight along the Florida coast, she caught the eye of a young skipper called Mark Elliott.

“In those days, she was the biggest yacht on the East Coast,” he remembers. “Nobody had ever seen anything like it. I needed a wrench once and went up to the boat - Captain Norm Dahl was really friendly.” He didn’t know it then, but Elliott was destined to become the skipper of the boat himself and was at the helm when the storm of the century took her to the bottom off Sardinia.

Coco Chanel died in 1971 and sometime thereafter the yacht was renamed Jan Pamela under the new ownership of Melvin Lane Powers. He was a flamboyant Houston real estate developer, fond of crocodile skin cowboy boots and acquitted of murder in a trial that gripped the nation.

Powers sent Jan Pamela to Merrill Stevens yard in Miami, where a mammoth seven-metre section was added amidships. “We made templates for the boat where we were going to cut her in half, then she went out for another charter season,” remembers Whit Kirtland, son of the yard owner. “When the boat came back in, we cut it just forward of the engine room, rolled the two sections apart and welded it in.”

He remembers how the sun’s heat made the bare and painted metal expand at different rates. “You had to weld during certain time periods – early in the morning or late at night,” says Kirtland.

The result of the extension was a huge new seven-metre full-beam master stateroom, an extra salon and one further cabin – pushing the charter capacity to seven staterooms. During this refit, the boat’s colour was also changed from white to taupe. “No one had really done it before and it was gorgeous,” says Elliott. By 1983, Powers was bankrupt and the yacht was sold on again. She next shows up named Edgewater .

Elliott’s chance came in 1989. He was working for the established yacht owner Bernie Little, who ran a hugely profitable distribution business for Bud brewer Anheuser-Busch. “Bernie Little had always wanted to own the boat,” Elliott says. “He loved it. He bought it sight unseen – and I started a huge restoration programme, including another extension to put three metres in the cockpit.”

It was a massive task, undertaken at Miami Ship. “We pulled out all the windows, re-chromed everything, repainted – brought it back to life,” says Elliott. They also cut out old twin diesels from GM and replaced them with bigger CAT engines, doubling her horsepower to 800. “Repowered, she could cruise at up to 20 knots. She was long and skinny, like a destroyer.”

A smart hydraulic feature was also brought to life for the first time. Under two of the sofas in the main stateroom were hidden 3.6m x 1.2m glass panels giving a view of the sea under the boat. At the push of a button, the sofas lifted up and mirrors above allowed you to gaze at the seabed – from the actual bed.

Now called Big Eagle , like all of Little’s boats, she was a charter hit and her top client was a certain New York financier named Jordan Belfort. He fell in love with her and begged Little to sell to him. But he needed to secure financing, and in 1995, Little agreed to hold a note on the boat for a year if Mark Elliott stayed on as skipper.

With the boat rechristened Nadine after his wife, Belfort set about another round of refit work, restyling the interior with vintage deco and lots of mirrors, extending the upper deck this time, and fitting a crane capable of raising and stowing the Turbine Seawind seaplane.

Nadine also carried a helicopter, a 10m Intrepid tender, two 6m dinghies on the bow, four motorbikes, six jetskis, state-of-the-art dive gear. “You pretty much needed an air traffic controller when all these things were in the water,” says Elliott.

Belfort’s partying was legendary and Elliott clearly saw eye-watering things on board, but as far as he was concerned, he was there to safeguard the boat. “When Jordan Belfort became the owner, he could do whatever he wanted. I was there to protect the note,” says Elliott. “He is a brilliant mind and a lovely person. It was just when he was in his party mode, he was out of control.”

Nadine and her huge cohort of toys and vehicles plied all the usual yachting haunts on both sides of the Atlantic. But Belfort’s love story was to be short-lived. Disaster struck with the boss and guests on board during an 85-mile crossing between Civitavecchia in Italy and Calle de Volpe on Sardinia.

What was forecast to be a 20-knot blow and moderate seas degenerated into a violent 70-knot storm with crests towering above 10.6m, according to Elliott. Wave after wave pounded the superstructure, stoving in hatches and windows so that water poured below and made the boat sluggish. By a miracle the engine room remained dry and they could maintain steerage way, motoring slowly through the black of the night as rescue attempt after rescue attempt was called off.

Nadine eventually sank at dawn in over 1000m of water just 20 miles from the coast of Sardinia. Everyone had been taken off by helicopter, and there was no loss of life. Captain Mark Elliott was roundly congratulated for his handling of the incident. “The insurance paid immediately because it was the storm of the century,” he says. “I took the whole crew but one with me to [Little’s next boat] Star Ship . That was my way to come back.”

Jordan Belfort Nadine Caridi: Married in 1991

After meeting in the late eighties, Nadine Caridi and Jordan Belfort dated for a couple of years before they tied the knot in 1991. Their wedding took place in the Carribean.

Belfort was still married to Denise Lombardo  at the time when he started an extra-marital affair with Nadine. It was because of their relationship, Lombardo divorced him in the early 1990s.

Nadine Gave Birth to Two Children, Chandler and Carter Belfort

After Nadine and Belfort’s marriage in 1991, the pair spent a joyous time for a couple of years. The then-lovebirds welcomed two children, a daughter named Chandler Belfort on July 29, 1993 , and a son, Carter Belfort  on August 15, 1995 .

After the pair gave birth to their two children, trouble started brewing in their marital life, all due to Belfort’s addiction to narcotics and his infidelity. These issues later led to their separation and eventually, they divorced in 1998.

Initially, Caridi’s ex-boyfriend introduced her to Jordan

Nadine Caridi was dating Alan Wilzig  before she started dating Jordan Belfort. As ironical as it sounds, her then-beau Wilzig introduced her to Belfort in the late eighties at the Hamptons pool party.

Nevertheless, the luxury yacht sank off the east coast of Sardinia in June 1996. Frogmen from the Italian Navy special force rescued everyone on board.

Belfort later revealed that he insisted on sailing out in high winds, despite the Yacht captain’s order which in the end, resulted in the accident.

Nadine exchanged vows with her Second Husband Shortly after her Divorce from Belfort

As of now, Nadine Caridi is happily married to John Macaluso . Her second husband, Macaluso is a New York-based entrepreneur. Besides, Macaluso also worked as the CEO of Wizard World. As per the sources, Macaluso is 22 years older than her.

How Accurate Is The Wolf of Wall Street ?

For  The Wolf of Wall Street , his latest collaboration with Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese forewent his signature voiceover style in favor of more direct address: Throughout the movie, DiCaprio, playing the lupine financial huckster Jordan Belfort, looks into the camera and speaks right to the audience. Terence Winter, who wrote the screenplay, explains the use of the technique thusly: “ You are being sold the Jordan Belfort story by Jordan Belfort , and he is a very unreliable narrator.”

It’s important to keep that in mind if you decide to dig into the fact and fiction of the film.  The Wolf of Wall Street  is quite faithful to the book by Belfort that it’s based on —though there are differences; the key ones are enumerated below. But how faithful is that book to reality?

It can be hard to tell, especially since some of its more outlandish tales turn out to be true. Nonetheless, below is an attempt to suss out the true-to-life from the merely true-to-Belfort in the film version of his story.

Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio)

The broad outlines of Belfort’s story are faithfully rendered by the film: A talented but struggling salesman from Long Island, he got a job at venerable investment firm L.F. Rothschild, then was laid off after Black Monday . He went to work at Investors Center, a penny stock house, and a year later opened “ a franchise of Stratton Securities , a minor league broker-dealer,” in “a friend’s car dealership in Queens.” He and his partner earned enough to buy out Stratton and form Stratton Oakmont, which he built into one of the largest over-the-counter brokerage firms in the country. (As in the movie, he hired some old friends .) He did an enormous amount of drugs—including, yes, Lemmon 714s —employed the services of countless prostitutes, and eventually went to prison for the pump-and-dump schemes that made him rich.

Much of DiCaprio’s dialogue comes straight from Belfort’s book, as do nearly all of the hard-to-believe misadventures: landing the helicopter on his lawn while stoned, crashing his car while severely high on Quaaludes, insisting that the captain of his massive yacht sail through choppy waters only to have the boat capsize and then get rescued by the Italian navy. Some of these stories are difficult to verify, but, for what it’s worth, the FBI agent who investigated Belfort told the New York Times , “I tracked this guy for ten years, and everything he wrote is true .” (Even  the yacht story checks out .) As for the much discussed tossing of little people, shown at the beginning of the movie: Belfort’s second-in-command says “ we never abused [or threw] the midgets in the office ; we were friendly to them.” That same former exec says there were never any animals in the office, let alone a chimpanzee, and he says that no one called Belfort “the Wolf.” We know, at least, that the nickname was not coined by a Forbes writer . But, for the most part, it’s  Belfort’s word  against his.

As far as I can tell, Belfort is not a particular advocate of “ sell me this pen ,” a bit of sales interview role-playing that has been around for years . Another minor but notable difference between movie and reality: Belfort, unlike DiCaprio, is a short man, and multiple acquaintances have suggested that his lust for money, power, and attention are evidence of a Napoleon complex . As for the fidelity of DiCaprio’s portrayal otherwise, there are many videos of Belfort you can watch online, including one or two of Stratton Oakmont company parties .

Danny Porush/Donnie Azoff (Jonah Hill)

Photo courtesy Mary Cybulski/Paramount Pictures; Photo courtesy DannyPorush.com

The case of Donnie Azoff (Jonah Hill) is more complicated. For one thing, Azoff is a fictional name, and the character is sometimes described as a composite. His story closely matches that of Danny Porush—but Porush himself has disputed some of the details . Here are the basic facts: Porush lived in Belfort’s building, and he went to work as a trainee under Belfort before Stratton Oakmont. As History vs. Hollywood notes, he did not meet Belfort in a restaurant ; they were introduced by Porush’s wife (and yes,  she was his cousin ; they have since divorced). He has admitted to eating a live goldfish that belonged to a Stratton employee, as depicted in the memoir and the movie, but denies the  three-way with Belfort and a teenaged employee .

Porush was indeed a childhood friend of Steve Madden’s, and the initial public offering for that women’s shoe company was the biggest bit of business Stratton Oakmont ever did. Madden, like Porush and Belfort, served time in prison for participating in the Stratton scheme.

Nadine/Naomi (Margot Robbie)

Photo courtesy Mary Cybulski/Paramount Pictures; Home video still/CNN/YouTube

The names of Belfort’s wives were also changed for the film. Belfort divorced Denise Lombardo, called Teresa in the movie, after meeting Nadine Caridi at a Stratton Oakmont party . Caridi, called Naomi and played by Margot Robbie, was a model who had appeared in beer commercials; in the book, Befort calls her “the Miller Lite girl.” (You can see one of her ads below.) In both the book and the movie Belfort calls her the Duchess of Bay Ridge (or just the Duchess, for short), because she was born in England but grew up in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. She really did have an English aunt (named Patricia, not Emma) who smuggled money into Switzerland on Belfort’s behalf, and who died while Belfort’s money was still in Swiss banks. (Belfort also had a drug-dealing friend with Swiss in-laws who did much of the smuggling—and that friend was later arrested after a botched money hand-off with Porush , just as we see in the movie.)

The scene in which Naomi spreads her legs open and tells Jordan he won’t be getting sex any time soon , only to learn that she is in full view of a security camera, is taken right from the book—as is the fight in which she throws water at her husband repeatedly. Belfort acknowledges hitting his wife in the memoir; he says he kicked her down the stairs. He also threatened to take their daughter away, putting her in the car with him and then crashing it into a pillar on their property. He was high.

Belfort and Caridi have since divorced.

Mark Hanna (Matthew McConaughey)

The L.F. Rothschild trader who takes Jordan to lunch and tells him that cocaine and masturbation are the keys to success as a stockbroker is based on a real person whose name is not changed in the movie or the book. Mark Hanna has told his own version of the story on YouTube , and he does not seem to dispute the substance of Belfort’s account. (The lunch scene in the film combines two conversations from the memoir, using nearly identical dialogue.) Hanna himself was later convicted of stock fraud . He did not pound his chest and hum rhythmically, as McConaughey does so memorably in the movie; that flourish is based on an acting exercise that McConaughey likes to do , and was, according to the movie’s press notes, incorporated into the film after DiCaprio and Scorsese noticed the actor doing it on set.

Special Agent Gregory Coleman/Patrick Denham (Kyle Chandler)

Courtesy WolfofWallStreet.com/Photo courtesy Mary Cybulski/Paramount Pictures

Patrick Denham is another made-up name, but there really was an FBI agent who followed Belfort closely for years: Gregory Coleman. He told CNBC in 2007 that he was struck by the “ blatantness ” of Belfort’s financial crimes. As far as I can tell, they did not meet on Belfort’s yacht, as the movie suggests ; in the book, Belfort first meets Coleman when the FBI arrives to arrest Belfort at his home. (The arrest did not take place while Belfort filmed an infomercial—that’s a bit of poetic license on Scorsese’s part.)

The Aftermath After his arrest and indictment, Belfort cooperated with the FBI. In the film, Jordan, while wearing a wire, passes a note to Donnie telling him not to incriminate himself. Belfort did not pass such a note to Porush, but, in his second book, Catching the Wolf of Wall Street , he claims to have done just this for his friend Dave Beall . He ultimately served 22 months in prison and was ordered to pay over $100 million in restitution to his victims ( which he has apparently failed to do ). As the film depicts, he became a motivational speaker after leaving prison; at the seminar in the movie, DiCaprio as Jordan is introduced by the real Jordan Belfort (and, in real life, the actor has filmed a testimonial for Belfort ). Belfort is not the only real-life participant to show up in the movie: A private investigator that Belfort employed, Richard “Bo” Dietl, is also in the film; he plays himself.

Audiences Still Question the Ending of Jennifer Lawrence's Passengers

How accurate is the movie reagan to the president’s real life, the emmy award winning beetlejuice cartoon was nowhere to be found – until now.

It’s no secret that Hollywood has a tendency to glamorize real life into action-paced, yet fictionalized retellings that often pander to audiences rather than honor truth. With films that contain especially controversial or shocking content, audiences may feel more wary about potential exaggerations and fudging of truths. One such film that invites this questioning is The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), with its depictions of raunchy office parties, mind-boggling wealth and equally reckless management thereof, and rather extreme characterizations. So what is the true story behind the now famous and praised film ? Let’s delve into and sort out fact and fiction.

The Real Jordan Belfort

In the 2013 film, The Wolf of Wall Street , we meet a young Jordan Belfort at a crossroads in his budding career. His past ventures have not succeeded, leading him to take a job as a penny stockbroker in Long Island. He’s a guy that keeps his head down and his voice low, who dutifully comes home to his wife after a day of making an honest living. This naive version of Belfort quickly evaporates as he becomes embroiled in fraudulent schemes and an increasingly profligate lifestyle; but was Belfort ever the redeemable character we meet in these opening scenes? Jordan Belfort was born to two modestly successful accountants in Queens, New York. He enjoyed a traditional upbringing, and met his future first wife while attending Bayside High School. This high school sweetheart is restyled in the film as Cristin Milioti’s Teresa Petrillo.

The ambition that would later consume Belfort, was burgeoning even early on. The summer after high school, Belfort and his friend profited a whopping $20,000 from simply selling Italian Ices on the beach. This young man had an evident knack for sales and admirable drive, but even he nearly missed his calling in business. Belfort initially enrolled in college at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, a dream that died on the very first day of class. The professor warned that dentistry was no longer a particularly profitable field, and surely not suitable for anyone just looking to get rich. Belfort did not need to hear more on this front, and promptly dropped the program.

This brings us to where we meet Belfort in the film. Belfort innately possesses something that the other penny stockbrokers do not. His assertive confidence and manufactured gravitas lures many shareholders into ill-advised investments. Enjoying high commission rates from these sales, Belfort is immediately a rising star, priming the environment for his rise as a leader in the field. Before long, Belfort launches his own enterprise, and the infamous Stratton Oakmont is born.

The rapid rise of Stratton Oakmont seemingly changes the nature of Belfort’s character, as per the film. Director Martin Scorsese and screenwriter Terence Winter poise Teresa Petrillo as a sort of last link between the old, more virtuous Belfort, and the money hungry libertine we see from then on. As Belfort sheds the last of his connections to his previous life, he also becomes evermore embroiled in the indulgences and arguable depravities of life among the top one percent.

What was this lifestyle really like? According to Belfort , it was just like the movie, which of course was based on his own book. According to some, such as the FBI detective that primarily pursued Belfort, the author exaggerated the grandeur of and reverence paid to his character in real life. Even former associates and close friends of Belfort confirm that no one used to actually call him “The Wolf” and that this title was largely self-imposed. As for the scandalous parties and strange office practices, it seems that most of what is portrayed on screen is fairly accurate. While the dwarf tossing scene is entirely fiction, a detail even Belfort warned was too outlandish, the employees of Stratton Oakmont really did engage in copious amounts of drug consumption and solicitation of sex work. This lifestyle and office culture was not unique to Belfort’s firm, however, as this culture excited in varying degrees at many such offices.

Jonah Hill's "Donnie Azoff" Was a Mix of Real-Life Collaborators and Friends

Donnie Azoff, portrayed by Jonah Hill , was one of the more fictionalized characters in the story . Belfort did have a close friend and business associate named Donny Porush, a man who really was married to his cousin, frequently had relations with sex workers; introduced Steven Madden into the business, and swallowed a coworker’s goldfish. Other than this, much of his character is embellished, or simply subject to having the stories of less significant figures woven into his own. He did not sell children’s furniture, nor did he plead for a job with Belfort after seeing how much he could make. Porush ultimately served twenty months in prison.

Steve Madden was likewise involved in Stratton Oakmont, though as less of a hapless and inadvertent collaborator as he is portrayed in the movie. In reality, the renowned shoe designer willfully and extensively colluded with Belfort and his associates, eventually being sentenced to over three years in prison.

Like Denise Lombardo, Belfort’s second wife, Nadine Caridi, is renamed in the movie adaptation. Margot Robbie embodies Nadine under the name of Naomi Lapaglia, effectively capturing the allure of this Bay Ridge-raised beauty. The film also captured, in part, the abusive nature of the relationship, a topic which Caridi delves into on her Tik Tok page. Her recounting of the relationship tells of a relationship that was far more complex than in the on-screen portrayal, with Belfort essentially stalking and love-bombing Caridi, using highly manipulative tactics throughout the courtship and eventually the marriage. She implies on her page that the film is mostly accurate from Belfort’s point of view, but that her character was rather simplified. She prides herself on the fact that she “ walked away from the marriage with nothing ”.

How Belfort's Downfall Really Played Out

Much like in the film, Belfort’s downfall came about when the SEC began to investigate trading practices, leading to Belfort being stripped of his shares in the company and consequently, the exacerbation of his drug habit. Once it became clear that his former collaborators were working with the FBI on the money laundering charges, Belfort agreed to cooperate with the investigation. One detail that has been fictionalized is the attempt at bribing FBI agents aboard his yacht, when Belfort actually had no interactions with the lead agents until much later in the story. Jordan Belfort ultimately served just under two years of his four-year sentence, paying over $110,000,000 in restitution to victims.

Where Are They Now?

Having served his time, albeit a relatively reduced sentence, on account of his cooperation with the FBI’s investigation, Jordan Belfort is now a free man. Following his release from prison, he penned his autobiography, the apt title of which would later be shared with the film. Today, one may find him giving motivational speeches or creating content on Tik Tok, a platform that he uses primarily for opinion pieces and to respond to fans. Yes, Jordan Belfort, a man who defrauded countless people out of their life’s savings, has quite a following of young men that admire and look up to his former lifestyle. Subsequently, some discourse has been had on whether the entire point of The Wolf of Wall Street , a cautionary tale about greed and excess, may have gone over an entire demographic’s heads .

Nadine Caridi, now named Nadine Macaluso , is a licensed clinical psychologist, and is likewise active on Tik Tok. She, on the other hand, uses the platform to share her insights as a clinician and to tell her own truth about her relationship with Belfort, using the relationship as a real life example of the sort of psychologically harmful relationships women can become trapped in. Contrastingly, Belfort’s first wife is entirely out of the media’s scrutinizing gaze, consistently declining to comment and maintaining a private life.

Jordan Belfort's ex-wife speaks out on how accurate The Wolf of Wall Street portrayed their relationship

Jordan Belfort's ex-wife speaks out on how accurate The Wolf of Wall Street portrayed their relationship

Nadine caridi was the inspiration for margot robbie's character in the wolf of wall street, and now she's offered her side on the hit film.

Tom Wood

Nadine Caridi, the ex-wife of Jordan Belfort – better known to movie audiences as the Wolf of Wall Street – has lifted the lid on how accurate the movie was when depicting their relationship.

The film has been out for nine years now, so we don’t need to give you a spoiler alert on this front – but just know that the truth of the matter isn’t exactly like Martin Scorcese filmed it, according to the woman who inspired the character nicknamed ‘The Duchess’.

Portrayed by Margot Robbie in the film under the name Naomi Lapaglia, Caridi was married to Jordan Belfort – himself played by Leonardo DiCaprio – during the time that the film spans.

Of course, the film wasn’t supposed to be a true-to-life depiction of Caridi, but the comparisons are still evident.

Over the time of their marriage, Belfort embarked on a career defined by drugs, women, and white collar crime .

It didn’t end well for him, as he ended up spending a number of years in prison.

Margot Robbie's character was based on Nadine Caridi.

However, upon his release, he wrote the book that became the film and suddenly he has become a bit of a cult hero, despite not coming across as the nicest bloke in the world during the movie.

Anyway, since her split from Belfort, Caridi has moved on with her life significantly, and is able to reflect on some of the things that formed the plot of the movie.

On TikTok, she said: “So, can you imagine having a movie made about your life, about your love life, that was a Greek tragedy?

“It’s not fun, but guess what – I had that happen. How accurate was the movie?

“I think that if you look at it through Jordan’s lens it was really accurate.

“I think that if you look at it through my lens it wasn’t, and that makes sense because that was actually how our marriage was.

“However, I went to therapy, I became a therapist, actually got my PhD, and became an expert in relational trauma.

“And so, I am able to discern his truth, my truth, and everything in between, so stay and watch."

Caridi now has a successful career in her own right.

She’s right too – Caridi went from her life with Belfort to living in California with – she claims – no support from her husband.

Then, she enrolled at the Pacifica Graduate Institute and earned her Masters in counselling as well as a PhD in Somatic and Depth psychology.

She’s also remarried and is – as she rightly suggested – a relationship expert.

According to her YouTube channel Dr Nae’s Talking Bar, she shows off ‘people who thrived after overcoming challenging painful experiences and demonstrate how adversity transformed them, enrich their lives, and help them reach their unique potential.’

British model Nadine Caridi is famous for being the ex-wife of American former stockbroker and author, Jordan Ross Belfort .

Belfort was still with his first wife Denise Lombardo when he met Nadine Caridi at a party. It was one of the many parties Jordan Belfort threw at his mansion at that time.

Nadine Caridi had attended the party with then-boyfriend Alan Wilzig, an amateur racer. Alan introduced Nadine to Belfort at the party and the two later started a relationship with Belfort later divorcing his wife and Nadine Caridi leaving her boyfriend.

In 1991, Belfort and Nadine Caridi officially married . The union produced two children – older son Carter and younger daughter Chandler. By this time, Nadine Caridi had completely quit modelling to become a full-time housewife, but a very rich one.

Belfort later presented a yacht originally owned by Coco Channel to Nadine Caridi after he renamed the vessel to Nadine – his beloved wife’s first name. Sometime in 1996, Belfort and Nadine and a few of their friends went sailing on the yacht, against the warning of the vessel’s captain.

While the family and their friends partied, the yacht began to sink. Luckily, no casualty was recorded and everyone on board survived.

In 2003, Jordan Belfort was sent to prison after pleading guilty to fraud and other stock-market crimes he committed. The events surrounding Belfort’s charges and imprisonment put a toll on Belfort’s marriage to Nadine Caridi.

They ultimately separated – Nadine Caridi had accused Belfort of being physically abusive, unfaithful and doing drugs. In 2005, Belfort and Nadine Caridi finalized their divorce.

Nadine Macaluso has spilt the truth about the accuracy of Martin Scorsese ’s 2013 film, The Wolf of Wall Street .

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie as former real-life couple Jordan Belfort and Maculoso, the dramedy blockbuster follows the success and downfall of Belfort’s brokerage firm, which he built by scamming millionaires.

Based on Belfort’s 2007 memoir of the same name, the film remains fairly accurate to its source material. However, according to Macaluso – priorly Nadine Caridi – she would disagree with the movie’s portrayal of her “love life that was a Greek tragedy”.

“If you look at it through Jordan’s lens, it was really accurate. And I think that if you look at it through my lens, it wasn’t, and that makes sense because that was actually how our marriage was,” Macaluso said in a TikTok video.

“However, I went to therapy, I became a therapist, actually got my PhD and became an expert in relational trauma, and so I am able to discern his truth, my truth and everything in between.”

Margot Robbie left ‘mortified’ by Barbie photos leak: ‘Most humiliating moment of my life’

In a series of subsequent videos, Macaluso shared her perspective on specific scenes from the film and whether they were truthful or not.

“A lot of it wasn’t exactly true, but the boat scene was totally true,” she said, referencing the moment in the movie when Belfort’s yacht sunk and they were all rescued by the Italian Navy.

“It was horrific, horrifying. We were in a squall for 12 to 18 hours, and we lived,” Macaluso recalled.

She added that the film’s depiction of how she met Belfort was “pretty similar” to reality and confirmed that the scene of Robbie on the phone surrounded by a room full of flowers was truthful.

“I actually came home to an 800-square-foot apartment with 1,400 sq feet of flowers,” she said.

Later, she described meeting with Robbie so that the Australian actor could nail down Macaluso’s thick Brooklyn accent.

“I met with Margot and her speech coach in the lobby of my hotel, they taped me, and then I took her to dinner,” she remembered.

“[Robbie] was 22, she was adorable, she was so sweet. And in the middle of dinner, she said to me, ‘I’m really scared about being naked and all the sex scenes,’” Macaluso continued.

“And I said, ‘That’s it. Right there. That fear that you feel about speaking your truth to powerful men, embody that, and you’ll do a great job. And you know what? She did. She was fantastic.”

Macaluso and Belfort got married in 1991 and divorced in 2005. They share two children, Chandler and Carter.

Now remarried, Macaluso works as a licensed therapist for trauma bonding and uses her personal experiences to educate others.

The Wolf Of Wall Street's Ex-Wife Opens Up About How Becoming A Therapist Exposed How Toxic Marriage Was

Jordan belfort "love bombed" his ex-wife into falling for him..

  • Isaac Serna-Diez

Written on Sep 09, 2022

Margot Robbie and Leonardo DiCaprio in 'The Wolf Of Wall Street,' Nadine Caridi

Dr. Nadine Caridi, ex-wife to "The Wolf of Wall Steet," Jordan Belfort, has decided to speak out about the man she was married to, the internationally successful movie, and how it portrayed their story.

She says that while the movie wasn’t entirely inaccurate, "The Wolf of Wall Street" didn’t cover her side of the story because it focused primarily on her ex-husband, former stockbroker and penny stock scammer, Jordan Belfort’s point of view.

Where is Jordan Belfort's ex-wife, Nadine Caridi, now?

Belfort's second wife now goes by Nadine Macaluso, after remarrying, or Dr. Nae. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist.

Nine years after the release of the Martin Scorsese film adaptation of Belfort's memoir starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie, Macaluso  has decided to share what she has learned about her relationship now while studying to become a therapist.

RELATED:  9 Sad Signs You're Letting A Toxic Person Get The Best Of You

To do so, she has decided to post videos on TikTok in order to talk about some of her experiences.

“Oh my God that scene where Margot [Robbie] has all the flowers around her apartment, that’s love bombing ,” she says, referring to a scene from the movie.

“I actually came home to an 800 square foot apartment with 1400 square feet of flowers, and that’s love bombing, and that’s what made me fall so in love with Jordan.”

RELATED:  6 Rules Leonardo DiCaprio's Girlfriends Allegedly Have To Follow To Date Him

Love bombing is when someone attempts to influence a person through demonstrations of attention and affection and has been identified as a possible part of a cycle of abuse.

The overwhelming display of affection is meant to manipulate someone into doing whatever you want or get them on your side.

“That’s what happens,” she said. “It’s also love conning and idolization — he just adored me.”

"The Wolf of Wall Street" didn't get everything wrong though.

Another thing that the movie got right was the scene on the yacht where DiCaprio, starring as Belfort, tells Robbie, who is portraying Macaluso , that they need to go to Monaco for “business.”

What ends up happening is a massive storm comes that almost capsizes the boat and nearly takes the lives of everyone on board.

“A lot of it wasn’t exactly true, but the boat scene was totally true,” Macaluso  says, “and you can see the scenes here [from] when were saved by the Italian Navy.”

In her TikTok, she posts a video of a news segment that shows her and Belfort being saved by the Italian Navy as they take pictures and celebrate their new lease on life.

“It was horrific. Horrifying,” she says. “We were in a swell for 12-18 hours, and we lived. Thank God for my kids.”

When explaining what she means when she says that the movie wasn’t “exactly” true, she means that they didn’t capture everything completely and filmed it from Belfort’s perspective.

“I think that if you look at it through Jordan’s lens it was really accurate,” she says in another TikTok. “I think that if you look at it through my lens, it wasn’t, and that makes sense because that’s actually how our marriage was.”

Macaluso  implies that his truth was always the correct truth during their marriage, but explains that now, after going through therapy, she can discern “his truth, my truth, and everything in between.”

The ex-wife of real-life Wolf of Wall Street Jordan Belfort has opened up about her tumultuous relationship with the shamed stockbroker, while confirming that a very X-rated scene from the Leonardo DiCaprio-led movie about him was in fact based on actual events.

Nadine Macaluso, 54, who is now a marriage counselor and family therapist, met Belfort when she was 22 years old and working as a model.

The two soon became engulfed in a whirlwind romance, tying the knot in 1991 and welcoming two children together, before they ultimately divorced in 2005 after 14 years of marriage.

Now, Belfort's ex-wife has shared the truth about their wild love story, detailing the 'red flags' she wished she noticed when she started dating the future criminal in a series of TikTok videos.

She also spoke out about the important advice she gave Margot Robbie, whose character in the movie, Naomi Lapaglia, was based on Macaluso - and confirmed which scenes of the movie were accurate and which were exaggerated for the sake of views.

According to the mom-of-two, the X-rated moment in the film, in which Jonah Hill's character, Donnie Azoff, who was based on real-life stockbroker Danny Porush, exposed himself to her and began to pleasure himself in front of her was totally real.

In the movie, Belfort and Lapaglia (Macaluso) were seen meeting for the first time at a party, after Belfort and his friends took a sedative called Quaalude.

When Belfort attempted to talk to Lapaglia, played by Robbie, his actions were overshadowed after his pal Donnie unzipped his pants and started to touch himself - and Macaluso has now insisted that's how it really went down.

'So you guys have been asking, "How did you meet Belfort, the Wolf of Wall Street?" Well it's actually pretty similar to the movie,' she explained in a TikTok video recently.

'I was 22 years old and modeling, my boyfriend at the time said, "Do you want to go to the party in West Hampton at a house on the beach?" I was like, "Sure."

'We pulled up and I remember walking into the house. There were all these people and they were acting really weird. Little did I know, they were all Quaalude-d out, I had no idea.

'They were all there with their wives but they were making lewd and weird comments.

'That scene where someone exposes himself to me was true. I actually got terrified by that. I'm 22 and I said to my boyfriend at the time, "We have to leave this party," and we left right away.'

Macaluso did not confirm who the person was who exposed themselves to her; Hill's character in the movie was said to be loosely based on Porush, who has previously insisted that the fictitious version in the film 'is not him', claiming that he never engaged in many of the antics portrayed on screen.

Macaluso was married to the financial crook when he was arrested for stock-market manipulation - he pleaded guilty to fraud in 1999 and spent 22 months in prison - and his story was later published in a memoir, entitled the Wolf of Wall Street, and was turned into a flick of the same name years later.

The 2013 film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Robbie, Hill, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Bernthal, and Matthew McConaughey, was wildly popular and showcased the dramatic events that lead up to his arrest - including his relationship with Macaluso.

And while some things that happened in the movie were real - like Donnie's exposé - Macaluso admitted that 'a lot of it wasn't exactly true.'

'I think if you look at it through [Belfort's] lens it was really accurate, but if you look at it through my lens, it wasn't,' she explained. 'That makes sense because that was actually how our marriage was.'

The therapist added that it was 'not fun' to have a movie 'made about her life,' but that she is now 'ready to share her side of the story.'

' I'm ready to share my side of the story and the wisdom I've learned along the way,' she stated in another TikTok.

'I am very ready now to tell my truth on exactly what happened through my experience, my narrative, and my lens as a mother, wife, daughter, daughter-in-law, and most importantly a therapist and educated woman.'

And Macaluso revealed on TikTok that this was a real event. She said: 'The boat scene was totally true.

'It was horrific, horrifying. We were in a squall for 12-18 hours and we lived, thank God.'

Macaluso told her followers that Scorsese's office called her before production kicked off and asked if she would meet with Robbie so that the actress could learn how to speak like her.

She agreed to help, and flew to New York, where she went out to dinner with Robbie.

'She was 22, she was adorable, so sweet,' she recalled. 'In the middle of dinner she said to me, "I'm really scared of being naked and all the sex scenes."

'I said, "That's it right there. That fear that you feel about speaking your truth to powerful men, embody that and you'll do a great job." And you know what? She did, she was fantastic.'

After they split, Macaluso accused Belfort of domestic violence, which she said was fueled by his drug addiction and infidelity.

On TikTok, she said he had an 'extreme temper' from the start - which she admitted she 'didn't know how to deal with.'

'I grew up with a single mom and I didn't grow up with a lot of yelling in my home,' she told her followers.

'So when he first started to yell at me, I was really shocked and taken aback. I didn't know how to deal with it.'
