Standout superyacht owner's decks

The  owner’s cabin  is an essential item, but for the ultimate in privacy what you really need is an entire deck to call your own. Here's our pick of the best superyacht owner’s decks on the water...

"I think we met the owner's wish for privacy," designer of 72 metre Tankoa superyacht Solo Francesco Paszkowski said. The owner's deck includes a helipad that doubles as a party deck and a huge apartment that includes two wardrobes, an office and a bathroom. From the bed, the owner can enjoy unrivalled panoramic views over a private spa pool and on to the sea.

More about this yacht

Delivered in 2016 by Feadship , 66 metre Vanish's expansive owner's deck was the product of a serial yacht owner whose experiences had taught him that privacy and outdoor spaces are key to life on board. Located on the bridge deck, the full-beam suite offers direct access to the main saloon via an impressive superyacht staircase and bridge access via a secret door concealed within the suite's sitting room, which is separated from the bedroom via a sliding wall.

Featuring design inside and out by Harrison Eidsgaard , as well as a vast owner's terrace aft, another key highlight of the owner's deck is a private balcony on the port side that simply slides out of the bulwarks at the touch of a button meaning the owners can activate it at their whim without the need for crew assistance.

An aft-facing master suite with 270 degree views lets the owner enjoy an ideal nature spotting lookout on the 45 metre McMullen & Wing yacht Big Fish . Sliding glass doors mean easy access to the private deck.

One level down, guests can enjoy similarly impressive views through floor-to-ceiling windows in the main saloon and the dining area with its large glass doors leading to the side and aft decks.

Yachts for charter

In addition to the master suite with its own office, sitting room, private outdoor area and spa pool, the owner of this 61 metre Hakvoort yacht has a well-stocked cocktail bar. Transformed part-way through the build process after the original buyer pulled out, Just J’s was reconfigured to suit its new American owner’s desire to create the ultimate superyacht owner’s deck.

Double-height video monitors lining the walkway between the saloon and dining area of the owner’s deck are just one of the star features of the award-winning, 83.5 metre Feadship superyacht Savannah . The area also has a huge master suite with an enormous skylight, a separate dressing room and a spa-like bathroom, leading out to a large outdoor lounge, an office, a private saloon and dining area and a service pantry.

Talk about a room with a view. You can look out to sea or up to the magnificent chandelier from the massive king-size bed on the 85 metre Lürssen superyacht Solandge . The owner’s deck also boasts a private outdoor seating area, office, a casual sitting room with its own fireplace, and his and hers walk-in wardrobes.

Stella Maris

The huge master suite on the revolutionary 72 metre VSY Stella Maris leads to a private outdoor deck — perfect for enjoying lazy breakfasts in the sun. Because of the large angled overhead eyebrows on each deck, the owners can enjoy complete privacy as well as an unblemished view of the horizon from the bed.

6 future superyacht trends

super yachts deck plans

Article written by BOAT International Published on September 3, 2024

Advanced technology, innovative design concepts and a growing emphasis on sustainability are just some of the ways in which superyachts are continuing to evolve, and staying ahead of these emerging trends is crucial for designers, builders and enthusiasts alike. Looking at some of today’s stand-out features, we offer a glimpse into what could define the next generation of superyachts.

Responsive design As technology expands and develops, there is a growing trend for designers looking to intertwine art with technology. Responsive design, also known as immersive art, has been a big talking point in the industry recently.

A major project which caught attention back in 2020 was 107.2-metre Luminosity’s 370-square-metre interactive LED walls, designed by Zaniz Studio. Since then, responsive design has become ever more popular on board, with Perini Navi’s 46.5-metre ArtExplorer showcasing a 16-metre cinematic tunnel whose walls are wrapped in LED light installations.

Currently, responsive design plays with movement and light but in the future, we might see the trend encompass touch, smell and temperature.

Nature takeover We’re already seeing a shift towards yacht designs that champion an improved connection to the water – like the open aft deck on the Benetti Oasis models or the underwater viewing lounges on board 83.5-metre Savannah and 75-metre M’Brace.

The next phase may see greenery make more of an appearance on board. A recent nature-focused project that stole the spotlight was Heesen’s 67-metre Sparta, its three decks symbolising the elements of water, earth and air.

Interior restyling During and after the pandemic, we saw a significant spike in yacht usage among both owners and charterers, with some spending weeks at a time at sea.

Based on this, we might expect to see people readjust their attitude toward their yachts by focusing less on wow factor and more on comfort and liveability. Instead of grand pianos, elaborate dining saloons and disused Jacuzzis, owners may opt for additional offices, larger gym areas or cosy media rooms.

Central to this ethos is Nuvolari Lenard’s 202-metre Centerfold concept, a design that evokes feeling, according to the studio, rather than purely aesthetics. Interior styling is also shifting towards neutral tones and comfortable furnishings as opposed to cool, contemporary themes designed for dazzling, rather than living.

The power of artificial intelligence It’s no doubt that AI is beginning to weave its way into many industries, and this is no different in the world of yacht design.

Over the past year, we have seen various shipyards and designers embrace AI in order to enhance the guest experience on board. Azimut was one of the first with the installation of smart home automation on board the Magellano 60.

More recently, Rossinavi harnessed the power of AI to maximise environmental efficiency on board the 43-metre hybrid-electric Seawolf X. Whilst AI is still in its infancy, the industry has so far proven that the technology can be useful in numerous ways on board, and we can expect this evolve rapidly in the coming years.

Explorer-style amenities Alongside strong demand for explorer yachts we’ve also seen an uptick in trend for explorer-style features, even on regular superyachts.

Holterman’s 32.6-metre Lady Fleur is a good example of this, incorporating a hydraulic aft platform that doubles as a tender bay and swimming pool. Warming firepits, larger toy lockers and toy-carrying aft decks are becoming more commonplace, with Wider’s 49.9-metre Stern able to house a submersible.

In keeping with that theme, yachts may start to get more rugged and functional in appearance – something that’s highlighted by the booming in the popularity of conversion superyachts.

Glass galore The use of glass has grown in the past few years, with more designers beginning to use it for aesthetic purposes as well as functional ones.

We’ve also seen it become more frequently used for structural purposes too, as the material becomes more durable and easier to work with.

From Feadship’s 77.2-metre Pi’s glass-clad saloon to Oceanco’s 90-metre Dar’s glossy glass exterior, it’s making a big appearance on the exterior. In the future, we may start to see glass introduced more heavily on the interior as well.

Plans for futuristic 500ft submersible superyacht with onboard spa & helipad for 20 guests to travel in complete luxury

INCREDIBLE plans for a futuristic yacht have changed the game for luxury travel as it promises to take its guests completely underwater.

The Migaloo M5 is said to be the world's first submersible superyacht which boasts its own onboard spa and helipad and an outdoor cinema.

The Migaloo M5 is a futuristic submersible superyacht

Appropriate for both tropical and polar environments, the vessel is made to be completely submerged for about four weeks at a depth of 820 feet.

For comparison, the British Royal Navy 's leading submarine, HMS Astute, seems a toddler at only 318ft.

This sailor's paradise yacht is predicted to have a speed of 12 knots underwater and a range of more than 8,000 nautical miles when surfaced.

The inside of the Migaloo M5 is 1,000 square meters, of which 220 are private quarters devoted to the owner.

Incredible 790ft ‘Floating Ritz’ megayacht carries 448 guests in ‘ultra-luxury’

The 500ft vessel is designed to comfortably house up to 20 passengers and a crew of 40 as they venture into the deep sea.

A 200-square-meter spa, an outdoor theatre, a helipad, a helicopter hangar, and two "Midget Submarines" for additional deep-sea research are among the lavish amenities onboard.

A luxury interior features a 36-seat dining room with glass walls that allows guests to be fully submerged in the underwater world as they eat.

The super boat also includes two expedition vehicles, a 12.5-meter limousine tender, and a large assortment of water toys for both surface and land cruise.

The founder and CEO of Migaloo, Christian Gumpold revealed that these superyacht submarines could cost an owner upwards of $2billion.

Migaloo's superyacht can adapt to most climates

"We think a private submarine will be the most exclusive and most expensive thing a person can own," he previously told The Sun .

"We are the only company worldwide which offer superyacht-sized private submarines."

He said superyacht owners are increasingly "getting younger" and "they want even more extra ordinary and individual designs".

"They are willing to have something really new and unique, which has never been designed or constructed before – a 'normal' surface yacht is not that interesting for them - a private submarine is.

"We have a very deep knowledge of the yachting industry and understanding of ultra high net worth individuals as well as billionaires .

"We strongly notice trends and in our opinion submersible superyachts are the future of yachting."

Gumpold said the private submarine adds a whole new dimension to exploring the sea, Boat International reports.

He said: "In addition to motor yachts and sailing yachts, I believe that submersible superyachts will become an additional category of private vessels that owners can choose from."

A spokesperson for the company explained that the owner can also pick its own shipyard and other key partners for their boat.

But the Migaloo PSY team can "supervise all partners during engineering, building, sea trials and outfitting, up to handover to the owner [and] including after sales services and yacht management," they explained.

The organisation can also oversee the development of particular knowledge training for crew members and captains.

Meanwhile, the world's most expensive superyacht is a £4billion floating masterpiece with gold-plated sides and walls made of T-Rex bones.

Although the flashy floater is supposedly a jaw-dropping sight it remains shrouded in mystery as no one has ever actually seen it.

Dubbed History Supreme the vessel is covered in 100,000kg of gold and dazzles with jewels - but most don't even believe it exists.

The railings, decking, dining area and even the base of the boat is all wrapped in gold and even the anchor was specially made to be dipped in liquid gold.

It was commissioned by a mysterious  Malaysian  billionaire and designed by artist Stuart Hughes.

It comes after the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection gave an exciting glimpse into the new superyacht named Ilma , which includes an onboard spa and gym, in vision on social media.

Pictures of the  luxury boat  shows cabins that await guests, with decor resembling a five-star hotel room leading to private terraces looking over the sea.

It also boats a huge deck for guests to bask on sunbeds.

A swimming pool with a bar behind it adds to the opulence, with separate massive dining areas.

Interior Design Director Taylor Cuff said it was in line with  Ritz-Carlton 's mission to give guests "uncompromised luxury".

Below Deck Mediterranean season 9’s villain Ellie Dubaich’s behavior has Chief Stew Aesha Scott angrier than she’s ever been on screen, especially after trying to take control over the interior team. Throughout Below Deck Mediterranean season 9, Ellie has been working hard to prove herself with the hopes of becoming a Chief Stew in her next season. She was excited to be working with Aesha, knowing that as one of the most successful Chief Stews in the franchise, she’d started at a lower rank on Below Deck Mediterranean, and managed to work her way up to the top ranking Stew.

Even with Ellie understanding that Aesha could help her in her journey to become a Chief Stew, the Second Stew had problems that started early in the season. When Ellie revealed to her fellow Stew Bri Muller that she was interested in Lead Deckhand Joe Bradley, Bri didn’t share that she had her sights set on their fellow crewmate. Instead, Joe played Bri and Ellie against each other throughout the season , making their professional lives as difficult as their personal ones. Even after Ellie and Bri forgave each other, things were difficult between the interior team members throughout the season.

Aesha Has Been Irritated With Ellie’s Performance

She’s not happy with ellie’s work.

Aesha’s been spending her time on Below Deck Mediterranean struggling with Ellie and Bri’s work in different measures. While Bri is a more inexperienced Stew who has been having a hard time keeping track of her work, Ellie’s work as a Stew with nearly a decade of experience should be better off. Unfortunately, Ellie has been having a hard time keeping up with her work as Second Stew and has been doing poorly managing in her position. While the interior team has been down a Stew, Ellie has struggled with the elevated workload.

While Ellie’s work hasn’t been as poor as possible , she’s been cutting corners and making mistakes that Aesha’s noticed throughout her time aboard Mustique. Making it harder overall for the rest of the team to succeed, Aesha has noticed that Ellie struggles to clean up after herself and tries to delegate tasks that she should be taking on. With a difficult work style, Aesha has been having a hard time figuring out how to come to Ellie with her problems.

Ellie Hasn’t Been Working Up To Her Full Potential

Her superiority complex created issues.

While Ellie’s been doing the best she can, she hasn’t been working up to her full potential in her time aboard Mustique. With a superiority complex that pushes her to try to one-up the people beneath her, Ellie has taken her relationship with Bri to a very different level than the typical Second Stew. Ellie’s been overbearing with Bri , making it clear that she’s higher ranked than the Third Stew, but hasn’t been delivering.

In her time aboard Mustique, Ellie has struggled to figure out how to manage her time and prioritize her tasks in the right manner. Making it clear that she doesn’t understand which tasks are the most important and which are the least, Ellie has been having a difficult time with Aesha’s instructions , sometimes downright ignoring them. Even though she feels she’s working on a high level, she’s barely scraping the bottom of the barrel of her own potential.

Aesha’s Tried To Be Careful With Ellie’s Emotions

She held back her genuine criticism.

Although Aesha has been doing her best to work around both Ellie and Bri’s personalities, she’s been struggling with giving Ellie feedback more than with Bri. While Bri isn’t incredibly receptive to criticism, she’s at least been able to implement fixes for the issues she’s faced aboard Mustique. Ellie, in contrast, hasn’t been able to take constructive criticism or feedback as Aesha’s provided it. While it appears she thinks she’s been able to work on her performance, Ellie’s response to criticism has been difficult throughout the season.

Feeling like she has to over-explain and lash out with counter-criticism, Ellie has been tough when Aesha comes to her with problems. Because of her behavior, Aesha has avoided giving Ellie much feedback unless it’s incredibly pertinent. Though Ellie deserves to understand that her performance is poor and know how Aesha needs her to improve, it’s proven too difficult for Aesha to talk to Ellie in a neutral setting. Ellie seems to take Aesha’s criticism personally , which makes it harder for the Chief Stew to help her improve her skills.

Ellie’s Taken Things Too Far Delegating With Carrie & Bri

She’s trying to take over aesha’s job.

Although Ellie has been struggling throughout the charter season , things escalated when Captain Sandy Yawn and Aesha brought in a fourth Stew for the end of the charter season to ensure things could run smoothly. Carrie O’Neill, who was happy to work as a floating Stew wherever Aesha needed, had a similar set of experiences to Ellie before coming to work aboard Mustique . While Ellie and Carrie seemed like they were going to be at the same level, it quickly became clear that Carrie was more efficient than Ellie, which the Second Stew took as a threat.

With Carrie aboard Mustique , Ellie struggled to understand her role and felt like Aesha was going to push her down the ladder and replace her with Carrie at any moment. While Aesha didn’t have plans to replace Ellie in the final charters of the season, Ellie’s attitude made it clear that she was having a hard time working in the new group. Delegating Carrie and Bri for tasks when Aesha was present and trying to overstep her authority at every turn to ensure her position was known, Ellie angered Aesha in the most recent charter.

Will Aesha Lose It On Ellie During The Season Finale?

She might blow up on ellie.

Aesha gave Ellie a taste of the anger that she was feeling during the most recent episode of Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 , getting upset after Ellie continually overstepped. While it appeared that Ellie was just trying to get her work done, her incessant orders and consistent direction weren’t what Aesha wanted from her. She explained that Ellie was trying to go over her head, even if she didn’t mean it , and Aesha didn’t appreciate being overstepped in that way. While Ellie tried to apologize, Aesha didn’t want to hear it.

Aesha snapped at Ellie in the most recent episode of the series but with one final episode left in the season, could she lose it entirely? Aesha has been struggling with Ellie throughout the charter season, but with her most recent actions and attitude, t he Chief Stew would have every right to blow up on Ellie . While it may not be a matter of firing Ellie, it could be worth it for Aesha to make sure that Ellie understands why her performance throughout the charter season wasn’t up to par. Below Deck Mediterranean season 9’s Chief Stew should be upfront.
