The Perkins 4.108 is a time tested diesel engine. These workhorses are known to outlast the vessels they have been installed in. The 4.108 is a low pressure engine which is ideal for a sailing vessel that travels short distances before setting sail and shutting down the mechanical propulsion. As with all older engines some wear and tear is expected. The owner has priced the vessel with engine repairs in mind. The fuel pump has a small leak as does the rear main seal. A qualified mechanic can fix these items in the water, or the new owner may opt to haul the engine and bring to a rebuilder. In its current state the engine runs strong and is safe for coastal cruising.
The Cape Dory 36 is a unique vessel in that it offers the best of both worlds - comfortable coastal cruising as well as safe passage making to distant shores. A notable Carl Alberg design with a full keel (cutaway forefoot) and a shallow draft, the CD 36 is known for decent upwind performance. This yacht design was on the pre-qualified list for the Golden Globe Race.
Cape Dory Yachts was founded way back in 1963 in New England by sailor and engineer Andrew Vavolotis starting out with a little 15 footer. Through the years the company has forged a great reputation for building sturdy vessels that are safe at sea, simple in layout and easy to handle. Outside of Cape Dory’s pocket cruiser offerings 30 feet and below, the Cape Dory 36 stands out as being the next most popular. Perhaps this has been due to their versatility as both great offshore boats as well as being well suited for weekend and coastal cruising.
The design comes from Carl Alberg, a legendary name in cruising yacht design of the old age before designers like Perry redefined what a cruising sailboat should look like during the boom years of the 1970s and 1980s. Alberg’s design influences came predominantly from the Scandinavian folkboat which emphasized seakindly and well mannered sailing characteristics at the sacrifice of internal volume and initial boat stiffness. The Cape Dory 36 follows this tradition with a narrow beam, low freeboard, large overhangs, and a full keel with a cutaway on the forefoot.
The boat is built strong and a quick check of the heavy rig reveals a cutter configuration which emphasizes offshore work. Yet for the coastal cruising type, these boats are nimble and easy to sail. They have a usefully shallow five foot draft which makes for great bay hopping. The interior is considered cramped by modern standards but livable for couples on extended voyages; reserve the six berths for those social weekends away.
Under sail they track well to windward exhibiting a tendancy to be initially tender which lengthens their effective waterline before stiffening up. The low freeboard concedes a relatively wet ride. On long downward runs, again they track relatively well, except in quartering seas. In chop, expect some amount of hobby-horsing.
Construction has always been top notch throughout and with excellent interior joiner work. Note significant changes were made to the deck and interior arrangement in 1987. Owners haven’t reported any areas of weakness or bad years, and through the years the boats have earned a loyal following.
Cape Dory Yachts ceased operations in New England in 1991 selling the molds for the 36 to Robinhood Marine who continued production with refinements on a semi-custom basis. In total 165 Cape Dory 36s have been built.
The Cortado has been measured by our agents "Santa Barbara Style" with plumb bobs. The preliminary measurements came back at 39' 1" LOA and 11' 1.5" BOA. These are as accurate as possible, however the SB waterfront department must officially measure the vessel for any slip assignments. This vessel would fit in a 35' slip with a slight modification to the bow pulpit/anchor roller and/or transom equipment. Otherwise will require a 40' slip.
The Ventura Isle Marina where she is currently berthed will consider slip permit reassignment at the managers discretion.

Accommodations:
The Taswell 49 has a modern layout and clean stylish built-in furniture. If you want a nice three stateroom cruiser, this is one to consider with great light and wonderful interior space. TaShing is known for its quality cherry joinery which is pleasing with wonderful cabinetry throughout. You will find the vessel spacious and bright with an elegant interior enhanced by the teak and holly sole and many windows, port lights and hatches.
This is a spacious two stateroom, center cockpit vessel with that wonderful owners’ aft stateroom and private head and shower. The large guest stateroom forward will make guests stay too long! There is a large head and stall shower forward so you won’t have to share yours! There is incredible storage on this vessel. The galley is perfectly laid out at the base of the companionway right in the center of the action in the salon or in the cockpit. This is a wonderful vessel and a comfortable for a family on an extended cruise
As you enter the companionway, you’ll find it spacious and comfortable. There is a rounded dinette to port with a nice dining table and an additional bench seat to make comfortable dining for six. To starboard is the nice long settee/sea berth.
The galley is just aft to starboard right at the companionway where it is safe and comfortable in a seaway and easy to pass food up to the cockpit. The galley is completely secure with to Force 10 stove and oven outboard, the refrigerator/freezer aft with cabinets above, and the double sinks inboard on the centerline. The nav station to port at the companionway is a full sized sit down, forward facing nav station just like you want. The walkthrough to the aft cabin is on the port side passing the nav station with engine access under the cockpit. As you walk into the aft cabin, you’ll see that the boat is a home, with the wonderful centerline berth and lovely cabinetry outboard on either side. The hanging locker is of course cedar lined and there great storage in cabinets, and bookshelves. Ventilation is provided by a large overhead hatch and two opening ports. The adjoining private head has a with marine toilet and stainless steel sink set in a vanity countertop with a mirrored cabinet above and an opening port. The best part is the separate stall shower with a seat, opening port and hinged shower door. Outboard of the shower is a huge linen cabinet.

Greenberg and Joy say their goal was to disrupt the tender segment with an out-of-the-box concept that could cater to the most demanding clients in the yachting industry. The resulting design, which is kind of like a cross between a support vessel, a floating garage, and a tender, offers seafarers an exciting new way to store and transport luxury vehicles. The studio says each unit will be fully bespoke, ensuring owners can create the perfect home for their fine automobiles.
It is not uncommon for catamarans to serve as shadow vessels to larger, superyachts. Multihulls are generally more stable than monohulls because their two hulls provide a wide and sturdy base. GreenJoy didn’t share any details regarding the shuttle’s length or volume but the fact it can comfortably accommodate a car means that it must be at least 20 feet or more. That is quite a bit smaller than Bill’s but should provide enough space for your favorite ride.
The yard didn’t share any information in terms of propulsion, either. Falcon offers tenders with hybrid diesel-electric propulsion, so perhaps buyers could opt for a sustainable shuttle that burns less fuel than traditional gas-guzzling runabouts.
GreenJoy will present the Falcon Shuttle at the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show, which is set to take place in the iconic Port Hercules from September 25 to 28.
