The 48-foot Riva Dolceriva Epica , currently listed with Allied Marine, is for sale with a $1.9 million asking price. The 2021 build has only 175 hours on its Volvo Penta diesels, has a 40-knot top hop and two staterooms for cruising with family and friends.

The outside spaces aboard this yacht include two sun pads that flank the teak-sole cockpit. Immediately forward and to port is a four-person L-shaped settee and a table that folds out to create a larger dining space with the three-person bench sofa to starboard. The helm is forward and to starboard.

Stepping belowdecks, guests will find a lounge to port and the galley to starboard. The galley is equipped with Corian countertops, a concealed induction cooktop, a microwave oven and a refrigerator.

Forward of the galley and the lounge area is the forepeak owners’ stateroom, which has a double berth and bed frame in upholstered leather, a wooden nightstand, a wardrobe and stowage under the berth. Aft of the lounge area and down a few steps is the guest stateroom with two single berths. The owners’ head also doubles as Epica ’s day head.

Twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta D13s give Epica a reported 40-knot top hop and a cruise speed of 35 knots.

Created to a design of Officina Italiana Design, Dolceriva has a Planing GRP hull and GRP superstructure driven by 2 x Volvo Penta D13 engines to a maximum speed of 35-40 knots while comfortably cruising at 27-35 knots. The fuel tank has a capacity of 1800l/396gal what allows a yacht to cover 230 nautical miles without the need to refuel. Riva Dolceriva has a beam of 4.26m/14ft. Riva Dolceriva is a runabout of 14.92 metres (48 ft) long with a full beam of 4.26 metres (14 ft) designed by Officina Italiana Design, the Ferretti Group Engineering Department and the Product Strategy Committee.

The originality of the exterior derives from a blend of Riva's trademark elegance with the latest trends in runabout design, such as an automotive-inspired vibe and a sportier interpretation of the idea of luxury. The hull window design stems from a complex research process by Officina Italiana Design: generated by a black pencil mark along the side of the yacht, it deftly ascends towards the deck. This intriguing stylistic solution has led to an original and innovative hull-deck coupling system: the aft area, totally freed from the fender bar, features a carbon-fibre air vent with a steel frame. Making this model even more special are a number of fascinating aesthetic touches, including the stunning windshield made with innovative spherical crystals and featuring a slight counter-curvature: an element destined to become a new Riva signature.

The forward surface on the main deck sports the legendary high-gloss mahogany with its twenty coats of varnish, punctuated by a crystal section with a built-in skylight, which allows the cabin below decks to receive plenty of natural sunlight. The exterior part in glossy mahogany features the traditional white maple seams, which are instead absent from the perfectly uniform interiors. At the centre stands the chrome-plated aluminium alloy casing. This magnificent object, with its timeless appeal, completed by a mahogany shaft for hanging the Riva banner, is reminiscent of the fittings found on the models of the past. Throughout the main deck, several other details pay homage to Riva’s vast history and tradition, such as the aft, forward and side lifelines in steel and mahogany, or the mahogany aft wings. Steel also plays a leading role, being used often as a separation between the various elements. 

Dolceriva is available in all colours of the Riva range: the first unit will feature the striking Regal Silver with bright black inserts.

EXTERIOR DESIGN

The rounded stern pays homage to the iconic “Ariston” and “Tritone” models while also evoking the rear of a luxury sports car, transposing this automotive reference onto a fully maritime plane. The hatch, which features a structural bench when closed, swings open to reveal inbuilt mahogany steps as well as a large surface: using the inclination of the stern and the level surface of the beach area, two specially designed ergonomic sun pads can be positioned over the hatch, offering the opportunity to experience the sea in unique fashion. With the hatch open, more steps appear, complete with two storage compartments which can be used to house the seabobs. 

Beyond the two sun pads, separated by a central walkway, is the cockpit, with two more large sun pads which conceal additional storage compartments, and which lead to the dinette located amidship. Furnished with two large facing sofas and a central folding table in steel and mahogany, this area can comfortably welcome up to 8 people. 

At the centre of the dinette is an access leading to a belowdeck space, which in standard configuration serves as a spacious 4-sq.m storage area. On request, this space can also be set up as a crew area or as a second guest cabin with a small storage compartment.

Beyond this is the helm station, with pilot and co-pilot seats. The bridge features a Garmin Empirbus monitoring system, which combines integrated monitoring and navigation functionalities using touchscreen displays, (on request, it is possible to have one 12-inch screen and one 16-inch screen) and supports the installation of a joystick system. Stylistically, the bridge is enhanced by numerous prestigious details, such as the leather and chromed steel inserts or the carbon lifeline on the left side of the wind screen. To the side and below the co-pilot seat, a cabinet unit set along the bulwark houses a fridge, ice-maker, sink, work surface and bar equipment, as well as practical recycling bins and various storage compartments. The area can be protected thanks to a retractable electro-hydraulic bimini top.

INTERIOR DESIGN

A steel and glass hatch provides access to a luxurious open space comprised of a dinette with spacious sofa, a kitchen, and a bathroom with separate shower and closet. A 43-inch TV is installed on the starboard side bulwark. The spacious owner’s cabin is located forward, separated from the dinette by means of a steel and glass sliding door, whose inner metallic mesh is designed to let in light but not sight, thus providing the utmost privacy. The owner's cabin is fitted with a central bed, two walk-in closets and storage trunks.

All materials used for Dolceriva's interiors are perfectly in keeping with the Riva style, with high-gloss mahogany essences on the first unit, mirror surfaces, leather elements, steel and lacquered woods both matt and glossy.

ENGINES, PERFORMANCE AND ADVANCED FUNCTIONS

Dolceriva features a V-Drive axis propulsion system and, optionally, mounts twin Volvo Penta D13 engines each capable of producing 1,000 Mhp at 2,400 rpm. In terms of performance, the model can reach a maximum speed of 40 knots with a cruising speed of 35 knots at the specified conditions. In its standard configuration, instead, the model installs twin Volvo Penta D13 engines, each delivering 800 Mhp at 2,300 rpm, allowing a maximum speed of 35 knots with a crusing speed of 27 knots (preliminary data). The autotrim function is obtained thanks to the interceptors.

The optional joystick system includes a docking mode feature that makes it extremely easy to manoeuvre in narrow waters, as in sideways-mooring for example, thanks to the movement achieved by the combined use of the propellers and the proportional bow thruster. There is also a driving mode function, available on request, that allows Dolceriva to be piloted exclusively through the joystick. 

Performance also means comfort: on request, it is possible to install a Seakeeper NG6 stabiliser to minimise rolling motion while at anchor.

Empirbus, the monitoring system by Garmin, integrates various functions, including: viewing the generator's status and parameters; managing the Seakeeper stabiliser if present, and managing moving parts and managing alarms.

Description

The premiere of the Riva Dolceriva was held in the fall at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2019. The ship is 14.92 m long and hull width 4.26 m and has CE (B) certification and is intended for access to the open sea.

The design of the new model of the Italian shipyard was developed by co-owners of the Officina Italiana Design bureau - Mauro Miquelli and Sergio Beretta. The bow of the open deck is finished with mahogany, covered with 20 layers of varnish, and maple inserts. The interior of Dolceriva is dominated by genuine leather, rare wood, stainless steel.

A pleasure yacht is equipped with a cockpit with two sofas and a table. On the lower deck there is a galley and a lounge, two guest cabins and one bathroom. Aft there is a reclining bathing platform with two sun loungers, under them lockers are provided. An electric bimini top is installed in front of the windshield, which opens above the cockpit or hides at the touch of a button.

Riva Dolceriva is equipped with V-Drive drives and Volvo D13 engines with a total capacity of 1600 hp, the maximum speed is up to 35 knots, cruising - 27. The yacht is optionally equipped with more powerful Volvo D13 motor units (2000 hp), then speed can reach 40 knots. Depending on the engine configuration, the range without refueling is from 210 to 230 nautical miles.

This Riva open motor yacht is a spectacle of style and elegance,  perfect for a holiday sheltered from the rain and heat.   The new Dolceriva with hard top has a timeless beauty in every sense, because it will never lose its shine over the years and is also immune to the weather thanks to the gorgeous top with carbon fibre detailing that shelters the entire central relaxation areas from the sun and rain. This Riva creation is a 48-foot open motor yacht conceived from bow to stern to offer unrivalled on-board comfort. It strives to redefine its market segment thanks to a number of unprecedented characteristics: in addition to the hard top already mentioned, there is the brand-new exterior design developed by Officina Italiana Design, which has ushered in a new style philosophy for all Riva models; a perfectly optimised use of on-board spaces; and an exciting wealth of details that pay homage to the incomparable heritage of a brand that has shaped the history of the nautical world for almost 180 years now.   Born from the collaboration between Officina Italiana Design, the firm led by Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta that has designed the entire Riva fleet for over 25 years, the Ferretti Group Engineering Department, and the Product Strategy Committee, Dolceriva is 14.92 meters (48 ft) long with a full beam of 4.26 metres (14 ft). The exterior part in glossy mahogany features the classic white maple seams, which are instead absent from the perfectly uniform interiors. At the centre stands the chrome-plated aluminium alloy casing. This magnificent object with timeless appeal, completed by a mahogany mast flying the Riva pennant, is reminiscent of the fittings found on models of the past.  This and numerous other details along the entire length of the deck pay tribute to the storied Riva tradition, such as the aft, forward and side lifelines in mahogany and steel, or the mahogany aft wings. Steel also plays a leading role, often used as a separation between the various elements.   One of the great strengths and novelties of this open yacht makes an important contribution to liveability: the brand new hard top made from a carbon-vinyl ester hybrid composite material to ensure the lightweight, strength and stiffness needed to ensure that Dolceriva retains a sporty personality.  The hard top is designed to cover the entire external cockpit and helm station perfectly, with the possibility of closing off the entire area beneath using transparent awnings on either side, forward and even aft. Several sections of the hard top are made of steel not only to increase its strength, but also to enhance the structure and design. In terms of performance, the model can reach a top speed of 40 knots, with a cruising speed of 35 knots. The autotrim function is provided by interceptor management. The helm station features one 12-inch touchscreen and an additional 16-inch touchscreen available as an option. It is equipped with Empirbus, the Garmin monitoring system that incorporates various different functions, including: generator state and parameter display; Seakeeper stabilisation system management (if installed); manoeuvre and alarm management. The optional manoeuvring joystick features docking mode functionality for easy handling in confined waters, such as when mooring alongside, with lateral movement obtained by the combined action of the main propellers and the proportional bow thruster. Also available on request is the driving mode function, allowing the Dolceriva to be piloted exclusively through the joystick. Performance means comfort too and, on request, a Seakeeper NG6 stabilizer can be installed to minimise rolling at anchor.

48 Dolceriva: On Board the New 15 metre Riva Motor Yacht

We step on board the 48 Dolceriva, the new 15 metre motor yacht by Riva...

A sea trial with a group of marine journalists can take the romance out of a boat ride. As we talk revs, consumption and knots, one can almost forget what this is – a brand-new Riva built in the brand’s historic lakefront hometown of Sarnico, Italy, with an attention to design detail that borders on obsessive: 20 coats of varnish on mahogany; air intakes in carbon outlined in stainless steel; a one-piece wraparound glass windshield; a spacious indoor saloon; a luxurious cabin; and even an optional crew cabin.

There is nothing more fun for boat writers than to get their hands on the (leather-covered) wheel of a new boat, and there is no shortage of volunteers to submit the new Riva 48 Dolceriva to a rise and decrease in RPMs and extreme moves that it will rarely – if ever – have to do under normal circumstances. But hey, when a boat is built like a sports car, you want to make sure it handles like one. I am happy to report that the Dolceriva goes from zero to 37 knots in about 30 seconds and is able to satisfy all skill levels, from speed enthusiasts to more leisurely boaters.

The newest Riva dayboat (as opposed to the superyachts the brand is now building), the Dolceriva is the heir apparent of the Rivarama and shares some of the strategies behind the 11.8-metre Rivamare that the Ferretti Group introduced in 2016. “The main driver of the project was a timeless, long- lasting design – a Riva that can be iconic, though renewed, and at the same time up to date in terms of technology, propulsion and steering platform,” explains Michelangelo Casadei, the Ferretti Group’s director of engineering.

It was a tall order for designers Officina Italiana Design to come up with a successor to the 13-metre Rivarama, which has enjoyed great success for years. The hardest thing may be to edit your own work and Officina Italiana Design did just that, cutting out details from an already sober design to produce a modern boat that remains respectful of the Riva heritage. From my point of view, it looks to be a winner – the lines are pure and simple (but far from simplistic). In fact, the new Dolceriva is so good-looking, I lose myself in contemplation and miss out on some of the technical chatter.

However, a boat is much more than a sculpture and it needs to be safe. One might even argue it is primarily about the naval architecture (the hull shape is a deep V with 15.9-degree deadrise), the engines (two high-performance Volvo Penta D13s), the drives and the steering (which is velvety and awesome to my hands). The steering package includes rudders and V-drives, but this boat also comes with a joystick, which is a really useful tool in tight corners.

Once at the wheel, I appreciate how the navigation information is integrated in a couple of easy-to-read screens placed at just the right height. Everything is at hand: horn, wipers, radio, even a bottle of water, thanks to judiciously placed cupholders. The windscreen, a feat of engineering by Italian maker Isoclima, offers good wraparound protection from wind and spray with primo views. Automated interceptors remove any guessing game in terms of optimal trim and efficiency. All that’s left to do is rev up the engines and let the Dolceriva run while keeping a lookout for other craft on the water.

Riva built the boat according to CE regulations and it is certified for up to 10 passengers. On the day of the sea trial, I am one of eight on board and the boat is loaded with about 75 per cent of the fuel and water it can carry. Our test boat, which displaces 21 tonnes, is fresh out of the factory and reaches a top speed of 38.9 knots (just shy of its 40-knot maximum capability). Cruising speed is a comfortable and fairly quiet 35 knots.

But what’s the hurry? There is plenty to enjoy here. The beautifully angled transom transforms into a swim platform for easy water access. Two removable sunpads unfold from a storage compartment to fit the swim platform exactly, while two more permanent ones just above allow adults to stretch out fully, which is great, particularly after a meal. The varnished deck table unfolds for mealtimes and a smart system allows an automated bimini to rise from hidden compartments and shelter the entire cockpit. Need more shade? Retreat down below to an elegant saloon, decorated with perfectly stitched leather panels, dark wood, venetian blinds and light fabrics. As always, Riva branding is everywhere, but it is discreet.

“All materials recall the Riva heritage, such as mahogany and steel combined with mirrored surfaces and leather elements,” says Stefano de Vivo, the Ferretti Group’s chief commercial officer. Steel and glass are used on the hatch that accesses the luxurious interior and on the master cabin’s sliding door. This metallic mesh allows light in but guarantees privacy, “a strategic choice both in terms of functionality and style”, adds de Vivo. The cabin is certainly comfortable enough for an overnight stay, complete with dayhead and shower with good head height.

Riva offers a couple of layouts, including one without a crew cabin. Most clients so far are opting for the crew cabin, I’m told, because when you own a Riva like this, you deserve a captain. A luxury dayboat you’ll love to take for a ride, with room for a crew – that’s the best of both worlds.

The rounded stern pays homage to the iconic models Tritone and Ariston, while the beach area features two ergonomic sun pages that can be placed over the hatch that provides access to her lower deck.
