Everything was great. The hosts of the boat were all very personable and very friendly with a good sense of humor! Their mai tais were GREAT, I don't care for mai tais because of the dark rum but they do theirs different ... ly and i loved their drinks. Very calming, good music and great drinks. Consider taking an over the counter motion sickness preventative before your cruise if you are worried about sea sickness. Just in case, motion sickness tablets and bracelets are available on-board for a fee.

How far in advance should I book this activity?

We recommend booking at least 3-4 days in advance. If you have very specific schedule requirements and are not flexible, please book sooner. Last-minute bookings are often possible, but availability is limited.

What should I wear to this activity?

Wear something comfortable. As you may have to walk through knee-high surf to board the catamaran, please do not wear anything you would not like to get wet below the knee. A light jacket is nice when the evening gets cooler.

Where is the catamaran located? Where do I board?

Maitai Catamaran docks directly on Waikiki Beach between the Halekulani and the Sheraton Waikiki hotels. Boarding occurs right on the beach, so be prepared to go barefoot and possibly get your feet wet!

They have this operation dialed in. It is short but very sweet. The open bar and fun, yet competent, staff makes for good times on the water. The views are great, they have good music going, and it is fun meeting other folks on board. Definitely check it out!

This was a great experience. This sail is very calm and relaxing and a completely different experience from the trade wind sails, where you expect to get tossed around and get wet. The crew was very friendly and attentive. The sunset was gorgeous, even though it was overcast all day. My wife and I now prefer this sail over the trade winds sails we have done in the past. This is the best deal in Waikiki. Was there for a week and went on this cruise three times. ~$30 for one hour sail with open bar. So, you can sit in a hotel bar and nurse one drink or be on the ocean enjoying amazing views, listen to lively music and chug down multiple drinks. No brainer. Shout out to Dustin for the amazing sailing experience.

This was a total blast! The guys running the boat were friendly and entertaining. The sites were phenomenal. The sea life is gorgeous. And the drinks were very good. I booked a second trip, can’t wait to sale again!

CANCELLATION POLICY

Guests will receive a full refund only with a minimum 24-hour notice of cancellation. Full refunds are also issued in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

During the slower seasons and typically the morning sails, tour cancellations can occur due to a minimum requirement of 6 booked guests. In these rare situations, guests are always given the option to rebook or refund. If you are concerned about your tour, please call with any questions.

Guests wishing to rebook or reschedule must give 24 hours notice. Contact us by phone directly to cancel or inquire about a cancellation. No-shows and guests canceling within 24 hours of departure will be charged full price .*Groups of 20 or larger are required to give 72-hour notice to cancel or modify bookings.

We’re in the Kewalo Basin Harbor, about a 15 to 20-minute drive from most resorts in Waikiki. For GPS purposes, our address is 1009 Ala Moana Blvd Honolulu, HI 96814. The Leahi Voyager is docked at slip F20. Look for the big yellow and brown sign that says ‘Leahi Voyager’. You can find this at the front of the harbor along Ala Moana Boulevard, close to the entrance near the cross street at Ward Ave.

We do not provide transportation to our boat tours in Honolulu, HI. You must make arrangements to meet us at the Kewalo Basin Harbor. There is plenty of cheap parking at the harbor, or you can take a taxi or use ride-share services like Uber or Lyft.

Expect to see local reef fish, turtles, eels, beautiful living reef formations, and the famous South Shore of Oahu. You get spectacular views of Waikiki, Diamond Head, and the cityscape of downtown Honolulu on our boat tours in Honolulu, HI. Sharks, dolphins, and whales may also be seen depending on the season.

Our boat is very stable in the water, so we rarely have people getting seasick. That said, if you’re worried about it or especially prone to motion sickness, we recommend taking your preferred brand of seasickness medication about two hours before boarding the catamaran for a sunset cruise in Honolulu, HI.

If a member of your group is wheelchair bound, you must call  (808) 207-2659 prior to booking in order to make sure we can accommodate.

MOTORIZED WHEELCHAIRS ARE NOT ALLOWED.  Passengers need to be step up onto the ramp, walk the ramp, and step down into the vessel, then guests can be immediately seated.

Make sure to arrive a little bit early! Once on board, there is plenty of space for all our guests. Walkers and collapsible wheelchairs can be brought on board, however, motorized chairs or scooters are not allowed.

Waikiki’s Diamond Head is arguably one of the most recognizable natural landmarks in the world. It’s been a picture postcard image of paradise for generations, and it towers in the background of countless millions of vacation photos taken by giddy beach-goers.

Beyond that iconic image, Diamond Head, or “ Leahi ” in the Hawaiian language, has been a symbol of a charming love story in ancient Hawaii legend for centuries. It is the charming story of an unlikely love affair between a small reef fish or “ La’i ”, named Nahe from the shores at the foot of Diamond Head and a majestic and massive yellowfin tuna “ahi” from the deep sea whose name was Le’a.

Young Nahe was swept out to sea from his home along the reef by a giant wave, and he came to know the ways of the open ocean, befriending the “ kohola ” (humpback whales) in the winter months and ocean-going sharks, or “ mano ” during the rest of the year. Nahe became close with a shark named Kila Ua , and one day as the great shark fed on a teeming school of large tuna, Nahe saw the ahi Le’a in danger and swan in front of Kila Ua to protect her from being eaten.

Kamaka, a goddess of the sea, blessed the union, which produced the Lai Ahi fish which still swims the waters of Diamond Head. The area became known as Lai Ahi, which was transformed into Leahi as the development of Hawaiian as a written language began early in the 1800’s.

There are also other theories about how Leahi got its name. The crest of Diamond Head resembles the profile of the head of a yellow-fin tuna, and that may be part of the reason for its name. However, ahi also means “fire” in the native Hawaiian language, and it has been suggested that the name stems from signal fires lit as beacons for incoming sailing canoes at Diamond Head’s summit in Hawaii’s distant past.

In truth, every stream, river, and other feature of Hawaii’s natural landscape has its myth. They are all compelling, some full of love and light, others stained with blood and betrayal.
