Kas is a beautiful little town along the rocky coast of Turkey which lives almost exclusively on tourism. Kas combines an unspoiled nature with captivating bays, lonely beaches and a varied landscape with the imposing Taurus mountains around. This former fishing village also holds a huge amount of interesting historical sites and is surrounded by whitewashed houses and bougainvillea. One can visit the Kas amphitheater which settles around the ancient city of Antiphellos, taking its name by the Greeks in the Hellenistic time and later becoming a leading town of the Romans. Here you can enjoy some of the most magical sunsets in Turkey and a fantastic view of the Kas peninsula which sits on the Mediterranean coast. There are also many hiking trails and a great outdoor experience is guaranteed up the mountains. The trails form a sector of the ‘Lycian way’ which is a famous 500 km long hike route in Turkey. Extensive walks up the mountains are a great activity if you are willing to spend some time outside the water. Being a big tourist bustle, you can also wander around the cobblestone streets of Kas, check out a handicraft shop or even enjoy an afternoon tasting local Turkish specialties. Every Friday there is also an open market where you can submerge yourself in an oriental experience, a sort of bazaar with clothes and vegetables you can buy from the locals. Once you have treated yourself in the town center, you can spend the rest of your vacation by scheduling a boat trip along the turquoise coast of Kas.

Boat trips in Kas can either head to Kalkan situated on the west or Kekova near Demre. If you pick the first route you will stop by some wonderful beaches. Akcagerme Beach is a calm beach that was awarded the blue flag in 2009 and is perfect for families with children. During your excursion you will also be invited to enter the famous Kaputa Beach, known worldwide for its turquoise waters and golden sand. The beach can get quite crowded in summer with many rows of cars lining everywhere, hiring a yacht would be a great idea. Kaputa beach Is also great for snorkeling and has ice-cold spring water flowing from a deep canyon. Just 7 km away you can anchor in Kalkan, an important port in the 19th century for both Greeks and locals and today a cosmopolitan seaside town.

Nearby you can also visit Turkey’s longest beach known as Patara, a windsurfing haven and lots of space for hundreds of people. Alternatively, you can hire a sailboat or speedboat and enjoy a day cruise to Kastellorizo. The whole complex between Kastellorizo, Strongyli and Ro have waters that are ideal for scuba diving, exploring underwater treasures and visiting shipwrecks. You can also visit the famous Blue Cave, arguably one of the most beautiful in Europe with cobalt waters that will take your breath away.
