History of X-Yachts

X-Yachts is a Danish based company that was founded in 1979 with a vision to create exceptional sailing boats. It started out as a small scale production of eight boats a year but has grown to become an internationally recognized and respected manufacturer of sailing and racing yachts.

X-Yachts : Surprise from Denmark - new Xc 47 with semi-deck saloon

The new model marks the start of a completely new model generation of the XC touring series. The yacht builders in Haderslev want to fulfil the wishes of an apparently increasing number of sailors who are looking for a real blue water cruiser. This is what X-Yachts writes in the press release. For the first time ever, X-Yachts is now building a boat with a semi-deck saloon, i.e. with a raised deck structure and generous all-round glazing.

Safe and easy handling, even with a small crew, is at the centre of the concept. To achieve this, all sheets, halyards and trim lines are now routed inside the cabin superstructure and coamings right in front of the steering columns. The helmsman should be able to operate the functions without having to leave his place at the steering wheel. This arrangement is also a first for an X-Yachts boat. The mainsheet runs over a traveller in front of the companionway and is led back to the winches on both sides.

The short overlapping genoa is sheeted in via line-adjustable hoisting points on the forward cabin superstructure and is also operated at the very back. What's more, a bowsprit with anchor holder is integrated into the hull structure as a fixed component for the use of a gennaker or a code zero. The rig features a mast with two spreaders, while rod shrouds are an absolute standard feature of all X-Yachts models, including the Xc 47. Instead of a furling mast, it will also be possible to order a furling main boom as an option for the boat.

Fresh design approaches, proven hull lines

At the rear, a bridge deck closes off the deep and well-protected cockpit to the stern. The area at deck level will also be used as a sunbathing area. A large, folding bathing platform with direct access to the lazarette is also planned. The designers at X-Yachts have adopted the deep, V-shaped frame and the relatively long hull overhang at the stern from the earlier Xc models. The proven design is responsible for the well-known good and comfortable sailing characteristics. However, the stern section of the Xc 47 has been redesigned. The differentiated but soft chine edges provide additional dimensional stability, improved performance downwind and, in particular, more space in the aft cabins.

The Xc 47 is built to the usual high quality standards of X-Yachts. The hull and deck are manufactured as GRP constructions with E-glass and epoxy resin using the vacuum infusion process. As with all X-Yachts models, the hull structures are also reinforced with a galvanised steel frame as an extended floor assembly. The high-stress areas in the hull, keel, rudder and shrouds are also reinforced with carbon fibre fabrics.

X-Yachts is already quoting a price for the project presentation: the ship is to cost 750,000 euros net with the basic equipment. Including 19% VAT, the price is 892,500 euros. Construction number one is scheduled for completion in spring 2024.

The complete interior fittings as a model

X-Yachts has adopted a new approach for the development of the interior of the new Xc 47. Thomas Mielec, responsible for design and construction at X-Yachts, explains:

"We have built a full-size model, a so-called mock-up, which can be tilted up to 20 degrees. As far as I know, we are the only shipyard that has ever done this. This gives us a unique test platform that allows us to test different scenarios under real conditions. Being able to move around in a real environment saved us a lot of lengthy discussions, as everyone could immediately sense and feel what the right solution should be. Not only under the conditions that prevail in the harbour, but also how things work while sailing when the boat is heeled."
