In 1987, this 130-room resort was first a Mandarin Oriental Hotel, then later became Le Royal Meridien Phuket Yacht Club and changed to The Nai Harn, a private resort. Not much seems to have changed from a distance after it became an independent hotel, but once you enter the resort, it is an entirely different atmosphere.

It was originally the Royal Phuket Yacht Club (which meant that the Thai Royalty had resided there on the vacations). The original hotel had more spacious rooms and had the "old world charm". The Nai Harn however had reduced their hotel pool to a children's pool and the rooms have also been redone with a smaller area.
