The J27 is a light sailboat which is a very high performer. It is very stable / stiff and has a low righting capability if capsized. It is best suited as a racing boat.

I looked at J27, J29 and J30 before buying my Laser28 (moving up from a J24). My two finalists were J30 and L28 because we wanted a used "performance" boat with room to cruise for a small family. No regrets. The J27 has a huge party cockpit (for the size of the boat) and can put the boots to larger traditional racer cruisers.
