ROCK.IT Feadship Superyacht | From US$ 395,000 /wk
Built by the leading Dutch manufacturer Feadship, superyacht ROCK.IT (hull 687) is a striking 60.05 m (197') vessel, launched in 2014 and refitted in 2019. With naval architecture by Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects, luxury motor yacht ROCK.IT has been entirely designed by Sinot Yacht Design. She mixes up space-age looks with traditional comforts. Her accommodation incorporates 5 ensuite staterooms that sleep up to 11 charter guests. Her professional and friendly crew of 14 ensure everyone on board has a relaxing vacation and a wonderful experience.
NOTABLE FEATURES OF ROCK.IT: ~Beautifully maintained superyacht ~Plenty of al fresco entertainment space ~Deck jacuzzi ~Main deck master with his and hers ensuites ~Amazing selection of water toys ~At anchor and underway stabilisers ~Air conditioning ~WiFi
Across her 60m length and three deck levels, there is plenty of al fresco entertainment space where elegant furnishings offer a choice of dining, lounging and sunbathing. The sun deck is fabulous, with a forward jacuzzi area which finds a round spa pool surrounded by sun pads and sofas. The sofas wrap around the deck with tables and there is an elegant lounge setting with occasional chairs under the canopy where a skylight with tinted glass dims automatically depending on the strength of the sunlight. There is a bar for the crew to serve drinks and a spacious open deck aft furnished with a collection of moveable sun beds that can be flexibly positioned to make the most of the sun.
The bridge deck is the hub for al fresco dining with a stunning dining table that can seat everyone on board under the shelter of the sun deck overhang. There are two L-shaped sofas, one to port and one to starboard which face forward and surround flexible tables. Glass doors to the sky lounge recess into the superstructure to create a huge sociable space.
On the main deck aft a relaxed lounge area offers a u-shaped sofa surrounding additional tables and steps lead down to the water edge beach club and swim platform.
The interior is classically elegant and hugely spacious, being full-beam throughout. Mahogany and diagonally veneered sycamore panelling create a warm, welcoming and personal atmosphere. Meanwhile backlit white onyx in combination with Statuario and Portoro elevates the interior to a high level while retaining its family feel. The furniture is traditional but timeless and thoughtfully placed to offer guests a choice of comfortable areas to relax.
The sky lounge is configured with various seating arrangements which can be moved to create separate areas or one sociable space. There are plush sofas, stylish occasional chairs, cosy table settings and a splendid bar area with sit-up stools. Forward on the bridge deck finds a pantry, captains’ accommodation and office, plus the magnificent wheelhouse.
The main salon on the main deck is a truly stunning formal space with a lounge and dining room separated by a handsome built-in, low-level cabinet. The gloss wood finishes are complemented perfectly with cream sofas, chairs and soft furnishings finished with jewel-coloured velvet cushions. The entrance to the main salon from on deck is via a circular grand bar area with marble flooring and refined lighting.
Amidships on the main deck is the galley which is placed to port with dedicated crew staircases serving all levels and allowing for discrete service.

“The way we design, is we design fully custom, fully unique yachts, we start with a blank piece of paper and we start asking the client how they use the boat, what they want to do on board, what kind of experience they have but we also want input on what kind of styling they like... It’s about getting to learn about the owner and how they want to use the boat.” - Ronno Schouten, Design Manager of De Voogt Naval Architects

Owner of 60m Feadship superyacht ROCK.IT owner explains his design choices
- Superyachts
Feadship's 60-metre beauty ROCK.IT is testament to the custom superyacht experience...
“When the doors slide open on the main deck, every time I come in there it just blows me away!” says Jimmy John Liautaud. Words spoken by a proud owner show just how 60.34-metre ROCK.IT has more than lived up to expectations after her first year on the water.
“ ROCK.IT is very sleek and bold without being pretentious,” says exterior and interior designer Sander Sinot of Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design. “A natural flow of lines and surfaces makes the yacht breathe speed and exude elegance.”
A marriage of cool Dutch design and hot American passion has given the yacht a unique soul, and, after her first year of cruising , ROCK.IT has taken on a personality of her own.
“The owner wanted to have a yacht that was fast from the outside and cosy from the inside,” says Sipke Halbertsma, sales manager at Feadship. “ ROCK.IT has a classic Feadship hull from the front, but if you look at her profile you’ll see the exterior lines work to make her look fast.”

However, the aggressive, forward movement of the exterior is softened by the interior, also by Sinot: a marriage of old Americana mahogany and modern Dutch minimalism. A surprising pairing, perhaps, but one that works hard to earn its keep as both a cosy family retreat and a raring-to-go party space.
Nothing is out of place, and the rooms don’t feel busy, but there is a warmth that pervades above all. It manages to be both contemporary and comfortable.
However, this is not just any mahogany. The highest quality crotched mahogany was sourced and then ‘folded’ out, so that the panels all match symmetrically, a difficult and lengthy process. Lavish use of glass throughout means the interior benefits from lots of natural light, stopping the wood from feeling too heavy.
A well-stocked bar with backlit white onyx proves the focal part of the room, from which the spaces divide out into individual lounging areas, each made distinct by their own soft cream carpet.
ROCK.IT feels voluminous, and while the high ceilings certainly aid this, so does the interior design, which allows for spaces to flow from one designated area to the next, creating capsule environments. Rather than having the feeling of a bridge deck salon, the room is separated into useful and efficient spaces, which makes it feel much larger.

Bars are a recurring theme on board, with each deck hosting a unique and ample-sized offering. On the main deck, the bar, complete with full-height wine chiller, is the first thing you see when you walk through the sliding doors.
Resplendent in backlit onyx and glossy mahogany and based in a circular ante-chamber, it separates the formal dining space, with a stunning table by Pollaro, and the outside entertaining space, immediately imparting the good-time vibe felt throughout ROCK.IT .
In the centre is a table and chairs, made in-house by Feadship, and drawing the whole area together as a relaxed lounging space that accommodates all twelve guests. Aft of the central bar is a row of deckchairs and a large tender and two Yamaha Waverunners.
“We have some owners that want two or three tenders and lots of toys, but the owner of ROCK.IT is really about yachting and diving, so the guest tender we store up top and the rescue tender is in a big hatch forward of the bridge,” says Halbertsma.
Not having the tenders stored in the beach club gives a feeling of more space elsewhere on the yacht, especially in the guest and crew accommodation.
As a yard, Feadship is known for focusing its efforts on offering bespoke superyachts , where there is no ordinary and exceptional is the new normal. And exceptional is no hyperbole. Liautaud took the ability to create a custom superyacht and ran with it.
“During his many visits to the yard, we had terrific fun with this unconventional and no-compromise client,” says CEO Henk de Vries. “His between-your-eyes honesty and tremendous respect for and appreciation of Feadship craftsmanship pushed us to new heights.”
ROCK.IT is one of the quietest yachts Feadship has ever made, and also was the first to utilise an intuitive control and manoeuvring system, commonly used on navy ships. The system allows ROCK.IT to keep her heading at anchor by hovering on the main engine and thrusters.
“I was willing to accept this new system because it comes from a proven military background,” says ROCK.IT ’s build captain. “The manoeuvring system represents a real step towards the future. To make it happen took real vision and considerable skill.”
This allows all the guest cabins, consisting of two large doubles, a smaller double and a twin, to be large and well-appointed, keeping a democratic harmony and reinforcing the feel of the yacht as a family home away from home.
Unsurprisingly, however, the owner’s cabin is pretty spectacular. Full beam and located on the main deck, the suite is accessed via an opulent marble lobby, past the dramatic mahogany-panelled staircase which links the guest areas.
A private study opens out into the full-beam cabin, which is characterised by the same deep mahogany as seen throughout the rest of the yacht, and soft furnishings in creams and whites. Huge windows ensure the room is always full of light.
Forward are large his’n’hers bathrooms, gleaming with marble and backlit stone. The sink in Liautaud’s bathroom is crafted from a single block of black Portoro marble, weighing almost 500 kilograms.
His wife Leslie’s side boasts a large French-style free standing bath, a rarity on a superyacht, as well as a wealth of Staturio marble and an elegant vanity unit.
With so much effort put into creating such a homely space, it would be easy to expect the owners to never leave their suite, however this is far from the case. There is no favourite space on board: “You know what, I love them all,” says Liautaud.
“We spend least time on the main deck, we spend most of our time on the swim platform and the sundeck, and we live in the bridge deck.”
The bridge deck is a compromise between the formal main deck and the relaxed sundeck. An al fresco dining table aft can be sheltered from a breeze by sliding glass panels, and the large doors into the salon create an easy inside/outside entertaining space.
Further aft, two smaller tables surrounded by sofas move up and down to serve either as coffee tables or dining tables, and match the larger table to create a symbiosis between the areas.
“Sander Sinot and Leslie did all of the art on board,” says the owner. “A couple of friends and musicians gave us a couple of pieces. I did the hardscape and Leslie did all the soft and the colour. That’s our deal.” The art makes the rooms feel personal, and adds a vitality to the otherwise flawless walls.
“Each Feadship is totally unique and no two Feadship owners are the same,” says De Vries. “It is our privilege to create the most amazing yachts on the oceans for the most fascinating people on the planet, and it has been a great experience to partner with the owner of ROCK.IT .”
The experience is, of course, of an owner involving himself in every aspect of the creation of his yacht, which, although perhaps not always easy, is what allows it to come alive in such a palpable way.
This is perhaps what gives her such a tangible soul, the passion that went into creating something that would still excite so much after so many days spent aboard. ROCK.IT is an apt name for a yacht that makes an owner’s heart soar, like a rocket into outer space.

About ROCK.IT
ROCK.IT combines space-age looks with traditional comforts. Created for an experienced owner who chartered Feadships and appreciated the essence of the Feadship brand, the outstanding 60.35-metre motoryacht ROCK.IT has raised the bar of what can be achieved in an entirely bespoke project. Fast from the outside, cosy on the inside, ROCK.IT features the first-time application on a superyacht of an intuitive control and manoeuvring system developed for naval applications.
The yacht contains cutting edge technology, as in the installation of a unique control system that includes a semi-DP autopilot system. This will allow ROCK.IT to keep her heading at anchor, hovering on the main engine and the thrusters. Optimal use of the various manoeuvring modes is made by means of a three-axis steering joystick with a rotational factor.

Rock.It — the hip, modern Feadship yacht with a touch of class
From the outside superyacht Rock.It looks hip and modern but, at the same time, classy and without any on-trend aggressive angularity. In car design vernacular, the 60.35 metre motor yacht is a little more McLaren 675, a little less Lamborghini Aventador.
The bow is sharply raked and moderately flared but its raised, bevelled bulwarks and absence of a teak cap rail speak to the 21st century. A curved fashion plate at the main deck and a single angle shared by superstructure and mast above support the illusion of power.
Portlights and windows are simple, effective squares and rectangles that, paired with polished stainless louvres and grilles, bring a nuance of industrial chic.
The interior is a different melody, played with the most traditional materials: bookmatched flame mahogany, steel and stone. Rather than a disconnect, it is a conversation about classic materials used in surprisingly modern ways.
The project began around the 40 metre mark but grew during development to incorporate not only plenty of space for entertaining but also to support a lot of culinary creativity with a large main deck galley.
The Feadship and De Voogt / Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design pairing has occurred before on other contemporary Feadships such as Musashi and Fountainhead , coincidentally also built for American clients.
Sinot was founded back in the late 1990s, not in yacht décor but in industrial design and transportation, such as trains and airplanes. This interest in the machine and how things work and fit together is a hallmark of the company’s work just as much as its preference for clean lines and light woods, says the project’s lead designer, Zlatko Imamovic. And therein rose an interesting challenge.
The owners’ original brief, divulged Feadship, began with a reference to a yacht that looked “fast on the outside but cosy on the inside”. In the owners’ minds, “cosy” meant dark woods.
Rock. It’s owners are Jimmy John and Leslie Liautaud from Illinois, him the founder of the well-known Jimmy John’s sandwich chain. With their three children, they enjoy water sports, entertaining, food and music, not necessarily in that order.
After owning several Sea Rays, the Liautauds became interested in sport fishing and bought a 26 metre Merritt sportfisher called III Amigos . Rock.It is the family’s first large yacht, although they have chartered before, which is what, the owner says, led him to Feadship. “It’s the best of the best,” he says.
The exterior settled, Liautaud solicited proposals for the interior, including one from Sinot that interpreted “cosy” with various shades of walnut. While he liked the look, he told Sinot he would like it a lot better if it was mahogany with beamed overheads like one of his favourite restaurants in Chicago and several US-built yachts he had seen.
Sinot’s next proposal featured a combination of straight grain and flame mahogany, and lots of it, with fielded bookmatched panels as a nod to tradition, mixed with modern gloss joinery on the staircase and in the furniture, with a little marquetry to showcase craftsmanship and copious backlit onyx.
Henk de Vries, Feadship’s CEO, admits that the amount of flame mahogany in the design nearly scuttled the project because the builder and joinery company had such difficulty in finding enough timber sections of similar size and grain.
At first the specs called for all the mahogany to be finished in gloss lacquer. “I worried about that,” says De Vries. “I started to think that it might look too much like the interior of an expensive car.”
A matt finish, on the other hand, looked too vintage. “We stopped the work and made seven panels one metre square with seven different finishes, from flat matt to high gloss, for him to choose,” says De Vries. “He picked the one right in the middle.”
As well as a family boat, Rock.It is designed to entertain. She sports a total of three bars, one of which anchors the yacht’s prime entry point on the main deck.
“It was clear that the owners will typically greet their guests at the aft deck rather than at a starboard side foyer,” says Sander Sinot, “so it was important to create a space that says ‘welcome’ and does it with a wow factor.”
Stepping from the covered aft main deck dominated by a huge teak table, Rock.It changes her tune. A curved onyx bar glows via backlighting, casting a warm light on beautifully veined Portoro marble.
A mahogany ring frames a dome in the overhead, establishing the theme throughout the main and bridge decks. Floor-to-ceiling panels of flame mahogany alternate with tall wine display cabinets bordered in sycamore marquetry bands.
Sketching an interior that relies heavily on a single joinery pattern is one thing; finding enough veneer to make it work is quite another. Creating the flame look in each panel required four sheets of veneer that needed to be matched for the size of the pattern being achieved.
A “book” of veneers from a log has an average of 90 “pages”, of which at least half are unlikely to match as the relationship from limb to trunk changes. The semi-surrounding wall of the central staircase features 168 individual panels that match side to side and top to bottom through three decks.
Feadship’s joiners worked through 130 books of veneer on that element alone. Each panel is set into a grid of polished stainless bands pierced by tiny LED lights at the intersections. As the stair surround is obviously concave, Sinot conceived each of the mahogany stair panels as slightly convex to reflect light.
An art niche at bridge deck level displays a small Jeff Koons Balloon Dog sculpture, which acts as a metaphor for the entire yacht: modern art on a classic background.
In keeping with the owner’s young family, there is no formal dining room but that doesn’t mean that indoor dining has been ignored. The forward end of the expansive main deck saloon is anchored by a staggering Sinot-designed light fixture hanging over an equally stunning custom table by Pollaro Custom Furniture of Union, New Jersey, in macassar ebony and lighter veneers in a sunburst pattern.
There are 188 pieces in the table top alone, each one cut by hand, which took more than 350 man hours to complete. Edging the table is a faceted stainless steel band, which is finished with three small rolled bars, a detail suggested by the owner, who saw the mix of curves and facets on a Graff watch strap.
“The client loves polished stainless steel and I introduced it as a contrast element in numerous interior places,” says Sinot. At either side of the dining table, glass bulkheads slide open, leading to terraces folding out from the bulwarks. Interestingly, the terraces open manually but are so nicely balanced that it’s a one-person job.
In all there are 30 custom-made Pollaro pieces designed for Rock.It . “When we build for Feadship, we are inspired because they create perfection,” says Frank Pollaro.
“Our work is a significant investment. Usually owners come to the shop and choose their logs for the colour and grain that interests them.” Pollaro has the largest collection of wood in the world, including an inventory of 500 ebony logs.
Forward of the circular staircase on the main deck and the amidships lobby with its marble floor is the owners’ full 10.8 metre beam suite, which is all about relaxation and soft lighting created by lots of backlit onyx.
Their children and guests are accommodated in two twin cabins and the pair of VIPs. The doors of the cabins do not face each other, which enhances privacy. Light fabrics contrast with the mahogany joinery and all the beds appear as free standing, with ambient light escaping from underneath. The windows in all the lower cabins are the largest the classification society would allow on a lower deck.
Also on this level, the crew cabins are among the first to benefit from the MLC 2006 regulations that require a larger minimum cabin area as well as other amenities. The area is extremely well finished and the engineer has his own quarters aft of the control room.
Rock. It’s bridge deck lounge is in a different key. Here, the cross-grain sycamore that appears in such light notes on the main deck is allowed a riff and a few mahogany beams add percussion to an interesting overhead made of woven teak strips.
The lounge is full beam and a bar to port is the crew access point from the pantry. “This is the last space we designed for the client and it’s more of a chill-out space,” says Sinot. “It’s sunny and open, with lighter surfaces. On the aft deck the sliding glass on each side can make it more of an all-weather space for dining.”
As much of the art on board would suggest, Rock. It’s owners enjoy their rock and roll and the sundeck is the place it really shows. At party time, extra speakers are deployed on all aft decks.
A pair of stone-clad bars anchor the gathering space under the hardtop, while an awning deploys aft if shade is wanted; the canopy forward extends almost to the spa pool and sunpads. The overhead is broken by nine skylights of photo-reactive glass that self-darken in bright sunlight.
Rock.It is anything but a marina queen. Since delivery in December 2014 she has been almost continuously on the move – completing more than 17,000 nautical miles in the first nine months, according to captain Hendrik Jacobs, who joined the project as it neared completion.
Her owners’ first goal was to welcome in the New Year in Miami and, after two weeks in Fort Lauderdale, it was off to the Keys, Panama and through the canal to Costa Rica, Mexico and the Galápagos.
“Our itinerary has been fluid,” says Jacobs. “They like the boat so much they are likely to turn up almost any time.” And indeed they did arrive during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show , which is where we caught up with them as they were showing the yacht to friends.
Commenting on the yacht’s itinerary, Liautaud said: “Why not? The yacht is so beautiful I can’t think of a better place to be.” His wife added that it’s her perfect spot to de-stress.
In their first season, Cocos island and the coast of Costa Rica generally, where Rock.It was accompanied by III Amigos , were favourite haunts. The Pacific coast of Central America is well known for its billfishing. “Our first stop after transiting the canal was Piñas Bay and the Tropic Star Lodge, which is world famous among game fishermen,” says Jacobs.
Alternating between Tropic Star and nature parks such as Panama’s Coiba island and Cocos island, as well as Marina Papagayo and Los Sueños in Costa Rica, the owners, family and guests spent the spring fishing and exploring.
A trip to the Galápagos was the highlight of their Pacific adventure. With a full-time guide on board, Rock.It visited five of the islands.
The next chapter was to spend the summer in New England for whale watching and trips to historic seaports. This winter will be spent in the Caribbean and next summer in the Great Lakes, where Rock.It will no doubt dazzle the Chicago waterfront crowd. There’s no let-up in that itinerary yet.

Motor Yacht
The 60.35 metre superyacht ROCK.IT launched from the Feadship yard in 2014, bringing an effortless style to the water thanks to exterior design from Sinot Yacht Design and engineering and architecture from De Voogt Naval Architects. A new wave of contemporary style with traditional comforts, ROCK.IT was designed and built for an experienced owner who made the leap from chartering Feadships, to creating thier own custom superyacht.
Fast, sleek and modern styling gives way to a cosy and expertly designed interior, also by Sinot Yacht Design, which accommodates up to 10 guests in 5 staterooms. Dark precious woods and light stones are blended in a fantastically detailed classic modern interior. Splendidly spacious thanks to the full-beam throughout, crotched mahogany and striking diagonally veneered sycamore panelling create a very personal touch. Backlit pure White Onyx in combination with the most exquisite Portoro and other marbles elevate the interior to a higher level without losing its main purpose of being a true family yacht. But ROCK.IT is also a party boat when the time is right.
One of the most striking features is the skylight in the sun deck canopy, which dims automatically depending on the strength of the sunlight. This allows for an open feel while optimising comfort levels. The bespoke superyacht project features an innovative control and maneuvering system developed for naval applications, never before seen on a yacht. This allows ROCK.IT to keep her heading at anchor, hovering on the main engine and the thrusters. Optimal use of the various manoeuvring modes is made by means of a three-axis steering joystick with a rotational factor.
