Pro Boat Blackjack 24" V2 Overview

The long-running line of Pro Boat Blackjack ready-to-run catamarans experienced a major boost in performance and style when the large-scale Blackjack 42” was introduced in 2021. Among other upgrades, this big cat added Spektrum Smart technology to the highlights of the Blackjack design.

Now Pro Boat returns to where it all began, bringing the same improvements found in its “big brother” to the smaller, more affordable Blackjack 24”. This redesigned Blackjack 24” not only looks better than the original, but performs better as well.

Its brushless power system has been updated with top-of-the-line Spektrum electronics, including a Spektrum Firma 2200Kv brushless motor and Spektrum Firma 90A Smart ESC. The ESC is Smart ready, allowing you to receive vital telemetry data at your fingertips when using an optional Spektrum Smart receiver and transmitter. Straight out of the box, the Blackjack 24” is 4S capable. Just install the recommended batteries and you’ll have all the speed and acceleration you can handle!

Other additions include the innovative Pro Boat SSL (Strap, Slide, Lock) battery tray that eliminates the hassle from locking down batteries in confined spaces. You can swap out packs in a snap — it takes only a matter of seconds. Bushing lubrication is simplified with a “grease and go” system that reduces this task to just three easy steps: remove the prop strut plug screw, pump in some grease, and seal it back up. The grease passes through the prop strut and stuffing tube into the bushing, right where it’s needed.

Screaming fast cat!

The R&D department at Pro Boat has been consistently working on its line of boats to give us RC enthusiasts a great selection of diverse boat options for us to choose from. One of Pro Boat’s latest creations builds off of its popular Blackjack line of electric powered catamarans, enter the Blackjack 24. It has a striking appearance, measures two feet long, comes out of the box nearly 100-percent ready for the water and is equipped with a powerful brushless motor and speed control, a reliable 2.4GHz radio system and waterproof electronics. My first impression of the Blackjack 24 was that this smaller boat will not come close to offering the same awesome performance found with the larger Blackjack 29. Is its size deceiving? Let’s find out.

REVIEWER’S OPINION Pro Boat did a great job offering a boat that bridges the gap between its tiny electric nine-inch boats and its larger boats that are in the 30-inch realm. The Blackjack 24 is small enough that it is easy to transport and run in smaller bodies of water yet large enough to be easy to work on and provide killer performance, especially when powered with a 3S LiPo battery pack.

OUT OF THE BOX

Once I removed the Blackjack 24 from its packaging, I was struck by how brilliant the red and black colors of the hull are in person as opposed to the pictures on the box. These colors work extremely well with the Blackjack 24’s distinctive graphics layout and sleek racing hull design, it is one sharp-looking catamaran. Along with the boat itself, Pro Boat includes the ECX 2-channel, 2.4GHz pistol grip transmitter. It is a no-frills looking radio, but it is equipped with all the necessary features you would need. Located near the steering wheel are the throttle and steering trim knobs, perfect for making quick adjustments while running the boat. Under the plastic cover on top of the transmitter is the on/ off switch, battery level indicator, steering and throttle reversing switches and knobs for adjusting steering and throttle dual rate. It is powered with four “AA” batteries and this keeps the radio super lightweight.

ABS plastic is utilized to form the catamaran’s hull which helps to make the Blackjack 24 very light. Without the battery installed, the boat weighs only 2 pounds and 14.2 ounces. This means less power is required to make this boat move really fast. The canopy is held in place with two metal pins at the front that slide into holes in the hull and at the rear of the canopy are two metal thumb screws to keep it secure. Each of the metal pins is held in place with an E-clip which holds it loosely. This makes it a bit troublesome to insert and remove the canopy. A foam rubber-type gasket lines the groove where the canopy comes into contact with the hull. This setup is not intended as a watertight seal, but will help keep the water that finds its way into the hull to a minimum. For the water that does make it into the hull, don’t worry, Pro Boat equipped the Blackjack 24 with waterproof electronics and a convenient drain plug installed in the stern. If you have ever tried to get all of the water out of a hull  that does not have a drain plug, you know how difficult it is and understand the value of having one.

Inside the hull, you will find a one-piece tray where all the electronics are mounted. It should be noted that Pro Boat put out an addendum for the radio tray where they found that some of the trays were not properly adhered to the hull at the factory. The fix is easy. Attach the tray to the hull using some CA (Cyanoacrylate) glue. Go online to view the actual addendum for more specific details. A way to know if your Blackjack 24 is affected is by looking for a large green inspection dot on the tray near the motor. If your boat has the green dot, it was assembled correctly and no action is needed.

Mounted on the electronics tray you will find a Spektrum S603 standard servo tasked with steering duties. Just ahead of the servo is the ECX receiver which has the bind button and the on/off switch attached to it. On the on/off switch, there is also a battery chemistry button so that you can switch between LiPo, NiMH and NiCd battery packs. This is an important feature so that you don’t run the voltage down too far when using a LiPo pack and therefore ruin it. Harnessing the power to the brushless motor is a Dynamite 30amp, water-cooled speed control. It is capable of running off of a 3S LiPo pack to help make the Blackjack 24 wicked fast.

The muscle behind the Blackjack 24 is a powerful Dynamite 2000Kv brushless in runner, 4-pole motor. Like the speed control, it is cooled by the water-cooling system which is vital for a high speed boat with an enclosed hull. A hole in the rudder is the water pick-up for the  cooling system where water is routed via rubber tubing through the speed control, then to the water jacket on the motor and it then exits out the port side of the hull.

Quality machined aluminum is used for the running gear found on the stern. The rudder is offset to the right of the propeller shaft. This is a common design for boats built for speed. Moving the rudder out from behind the prop allows the boat to maintain speed in turns while still allowing plenty of control of the boat. The position of the propeller shaft is adjustable via the aluminum strut so that you can tune the boat for specific water conditions. Curiously, the prop that came on my boat is 1.62×2.06, but the instructions and the Pro Boat website has it listed as a 1.34×2.06. I assume it was a running change where it was found that the larger prop enhanced the 24’s performance.

ON THE WATER

I started off with a 2S LiPo battery pack to test the Pro Boat Blackjack 24. Before hitting the water, I double-checked its operation to make sure everything was functioning properly. Once the battery was plugged in and the transmitter was switched on, I powered up the speed control and after a couple seconds and beeps, the system was calibrated and ready for action. All the controls worked correctly so I tightened the thumb screws on the canopy and placed the boat in the water. Gently pulling the trigger causes the prop to quickly churn up the water and moves the boat ahead briskly with the bow slightly pointing skyward. As you input more power to the motor, the boat in-turn speeds up and gets up on plane. The Blackjack 24 rides nice and level across the surface of the water and looks great doing it. Its super brilliant colors make it very easy to see on the water even when it is a good distance away. Steering input is met with instant response and the boat will turn quickly while also staying level. It was apparent to me that the offset rudder did enhance its ability to maintain speed in corners, although it does steer a bit better to the right than to the left. This is a trade-off I am willing to accept in order to maintain cornering speed.

Once comfortable with its handling, it was time for some full-throttle runs. I found the 24 to be quite fast with a 2S LiPo battery and very stable at full speed. It even looks like a full-scale race catamaran, especially when running at high speed toward you as it throws a big roost of water in its wake. While at speed it is possible to make quick direction changes and this did not unsettle the hull either, that is unless there was a lot of chop on the water’s surface. Those times created some cool exits from turns as I fed in throttle to power out of a turn when the water was choppy and the inside sponson would lift slightly out of the water. Luckily the hull stayed controllable and regained its composure quickly. The 24 is so stable that it will be a great boat for someone who is just starting out with faster RC boats. The Blackjack 24 will allow them to get accustomed to driving fast and then once they are more experienced, they can jump up to a 3S LiPo battery pack for even more high-speed performance. Running the Blackjack 24 on 3S totally transforms it into an awesomely fast boat. Stabbing the trigger on the transmitter will cause the bow to pop out of the water like a motorcycle doing a wheelie. Smooth input on the trigger gets the boat up on plane quickly without it launching out of the water and it rockets up to full speed in a flash. Now with the extra speed on tap, you will have to come off the throttle to enter turns. With 3S the Blackjack 24 is hitting speeds in the 30mpg range, making the driving experience extremely fun and exciting

There is no question that I underestimated the Pro Boat Blackjack 24…don’t let its smaller size fool you. This catamaran is fast when run on a 2S LiPo and just crazy fast with a 3S battery pack. You also benefit from great handling with the catamaran hull design, its light weight and its offset rudder, which makes it easy to drive this boat at most any speed. I really like that its smaller size  made it more convenient to transport and store yet you are not short-changed with less performance. I also found that the included electronics worked very well and made for an issue-free testing experience.

Pro Boat Blackjack 24" V2 Overview The long-running line of Pro Boat Blackjack ready-to-run catamarans experienced a major boost in performance and style when the large-scale Blackjack 42” was introduced in 2021. Among other upgrades, this big cat added Spektrum Smart technology to the highlights of the Blackjack design.

Now Pro Boat returns to where it all began, bringing the same improvements found in its “big brother” to the smaller, more affordable Blackjack 24”. This redesigned Blackjack 24” not only looks better than the original, but performs better as well.

Its brushless power system has been updated with top-of-the-line Spektrum electronics, including a Spektrum Firma 2200Kv brushless motor and Spektrum Firma 90A Smart ESC. The ESC is Smart ready, allowing you to receive vital telemetry data at your fingertips when using an optional Spektrum Smart receiver and transmitter. Straight out of the box, the Blackjack 24” is 4S capable. Just install the recommended batteries and you’ll have all the speed and acceleration you can handle!

Other additions include the innovative Pro Boat SSL (Strap, Slide, Lock) battery tray that eliminates the hassle from locking down batteries in confined spaces. You can swap out packs in a snap — it takes only a matter of seconds. Bushing lubrication is simplified with a “grease and go” system that reduces this task to just three easy steps: remove the prop strut plug screw, pump in some grease, and seal it back up. The grease passes through the prop strut and stuffing tube into the bushing, right where it’s needed.

Pro Boat gives you a choice of two iconic liveries for your Blackjack 24” catamaran. At top speed, the Heat Wave race livery is a blaze of wild color burning through the water. BREAK AWAY RUDDER Any RC boat is bound to have an accident eventually. When it happens, the rudder is usually the first part to bend or break. But the break away rudder of the Blackjack 24” catamaran is designed to swing out if it strikes a solid object. That keeps it from breaking off of the hull and minimizes damage to the rudder itself. You don’t even need to replace screws. Just push the rudder back into place and tighten it up!

DUAL IC5 CONNECTOR HOLDERS The dual, hard mounted IC5 connectors work together with the SSL (Strap, Slide, Lock) system to simplify battery installation. CLEAN COMPOSITE INTERIOR The design of the Blackjack 24” catamaran’s composite hull provides for a clean interior that keeps every wire, cooling line, and part right where it should be.

WATER RESISTANT RECEIVER BOX When you’re running on water, chances are good a small amount will get into the hull. Spektrum receivers are water resistant, but the exposed pins that accept servo leads are susceptible to connection issues if they do become wet. The Blackjack 24” catamaran includes a receiver box that locks out moisture and keeps this critical component safe and dry.

ADJUSTABLE HARDWARE The all-aluminum hardware allows you to adjust the prop strut height and angle, so you can set up the Blackjack 24” catamaran to your liking and tune the boat to the water conditions.

SPEKTRUM SLT2 2-CHANNEL TRANSMITTER The included 2-channel SLT2 2.4GHz transmitter offers everything you need for dependable, confident control. User-adjustable features include steering and throttle trims, steering rate, and throttle limits. In Memory – Dr. Richard Peter Chaille (PU DVM ’78)

The Purdue Veterinary Medicine community is deeply saddened by the passing of a member of the DVM Class of 1978, Dr. Richard Peter Chaille, of Anderson, Indiana, who died August 1, 2024. He was 70.

An Anderson native, Dr. Chaille enrolled at Purdue University following graduation from Anderson High School. After earning his Purdue DVM degree in 1978, Dr. Chaille went into private practice. In 1985 he opened Broadway Veterinary Clinic in Anderson and remained in practice there until he sold the clinic in 2010. Dr. Chaille didn’t stay retired for long, however. He opened Columbus Veterinary Services and dog park in 2018 in Columbus, Indiana, and continued to work at the thriving veterinary practice until Parkinson’s disease necessitated that he stop. Dr. Chaille also was dedicated to his wife and five children, and enjoyed Chaille family vacations to Kentucky Lake, Virgin Gorda, the Grand Canyon, as well as a Chevy Suburban tour of nine national parks. Other favorite activities included Quetico canoeing, touring France and Germany, and sailing the Virgin Islands. In 1988 the Chaille family joined with another family to purchase a cottage on Grandview Lake, and the Chaille’s spent many weekends and summers on the water making memories before permanently moving there in 2018. Dr. Chaille also was an avid slalom skier and co-founder of the Sunrise Ski Club. In addition, Dr. Chaille was a dedicated kayaker, getting out on the water most mornings before the sun came up to enjoy the magnificent Grandview sunrises, and he would often take a photo of the sunrise and send it out to his friends as a reminder to live every day to the fullest. He also loved to tend his garden and enjoyed landscaping projects and hydrodynamic engineering. Dr. Chaille will be remembered as someone who always had to be on the move or leading an activity. Most of all, he will be remembered as someone who would always go out of his way to be kind and generous to everyone he met. Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. August 17 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Nashville, Indiana, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of life gathering will take place in the lower level of the church immediately following the mass. The Doctor in Technology is designed to encompass best practice techniques that can be implemented in business, industry, government and NGOs, as well as by entrepreneurs, to solve complex technology-related problems. The proposed curriculum systematically develops enhanced skills and understandings that enable professionals, already holding a Master’s degree or equivalent, to apply their heightened technical and conceptual understandings of technology, research and development as they work to develop strategies to advance/enhance their enterprise. Consequently, the Doctor in Technology will accelerate and further the career of individuals as they contribute to enterprise performance, efficiencies and sustainability through contemporary applied research-based techniques. The program’s andragogic approach incorporates professional tailoring of the learning experiences that aid aspirants in furthering their education while using contemporary technology. All students will be required to complete a dissertation focusing on applied/use-inspired research of direct relevance to professional practice.

Doctor of health science, description and outcomes.

The Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) is a professional doctoral, versus a research doctoral (PhD), program designed to advance the competencies, knowledge, and skills that health and health care leaders need in order to foster solutions and innovation in the challenging and ever-changing health and health care environment. The program provides a high level of personalization and flexibility based on the learner’s professional goals and interests. The building blocks of the program include a variety of graduate health and health care micro-credentials and electives along with a set of core doctoral-level advanced courses and a doctoral project oriented toward addressing a challenge or need in health/health care policy, administration, higher education, or clinical practice.  

A micro-credential is a course or grouping of courses that represent a focused skill or area of knowledge. The  Micro-credential Bulletin contains available micro-credential offerings that can be utilized to personalize the DHSc. For more information about the different types of micro-credentials and the policies governing micro-credentials, please see the Additional Offerings section of this Catalog.

Program Length

The Doctor of Health Science program consists of 88 quarter credit hours, depending on your prior degree. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be awarded a professional doctorate degree.

Admissions Requirements

You must meet the below admissions requirements in addition to Purdue Global's  general requirements .

A transcript indicating completion of a master's degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher must be submitted.

If your master's degree has a major in health, health care, or a related field, to apply you must submit the following documents at least 4 weeks prior to the desired start date:

• A transcript indicating completion of a master's degree in a health, health care, or a related field.
• A current, professional resume or curriculum vitae (CV) that verifies you have 3 years of relevant professional experience in a health, health care, or related setting.

If your master’s degree has a major outside of a direct health or health care field, to apply you must submit the following documents at least 4 weeks prior to the desired start date:

• A transcript indicating completion of a master's degree. 
• A current, professional resume or curriculum vitae (CV) that verifies you have 7 years of relevant professional experience in a health, health care, or related setting.

If you wish to reenter the Doctor of Health Science after having previously withdrawn from the program, approval by the Dean of the School of Health Sciences is required.

Progression Requirements

• You may transfer in up to 28 credits of electives from your master’s degree.
• You must successfully complete IRB training, and IRB approval is required for the development of your scholarly project.
• You may not use credit for prior learning to fulfill any 800-level course.
• You must have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 prior to starting HS860 Doctoral Project I: Project Proposal .
• If you are unable to complete the doctoral project within HS880 Doctoral Project III: Data Collection and Analysis , you may contact your project mentor to secure an extension. A master’s degree in a health or health care-related field is required to enroll in the DHSc program. You will need to provide an official transcript that shows completion of your master’s degree and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher from an accredited institution, though an unofficial copy may be provided during the application process. Applicants must also possess 3+ years of relevant professional experience in a health or health care-related field. Refer to the University Catalog or speak to an Advisor to learn more.

Purdue’s PhD in Economics program is for individuals who are curious and critical observers invested in the cause and effect of decisions made by individuals and groups. 8 July, 2012   / Unexpected flooding that occurred on July 6-7 in Krasnodar krai killed at least 150 people mostly in small town of Krymsk. The water level in Krymsk region rose to 7 meters, entire villages were washed away. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that the flood occurred at night, when most people were asleep in their homes.

History of Krasnodar Krai

The territory of today’s Krasnodar Krai was inhabited as early as the Paleolithic, about 2 million years ago. It was inhabited by various tribes and peoples since ancient times. There were several Greek colonies on the Black Sea coast, which later became part of the Kingdom of the Bosporus. In 631, the Great Bulgaria state was founded in Kuban. In the 8th-10th centuries, the territory was part of Khazaria.

In 965, the Kievan Prince Svyatoslav defeated the Khazar Khanate and this region came under the power of Kievan Rus, Tmutarakan principality was formed. At the end of the 11th century, in connection with the strengthening of the Polovtsy and claims of Byzantium, Tmutarakan principality came under the authority of the Byzantine emperors (until 1204).

In 1243-1438, this land was part of the Golden Horde. After its collapse, Kuban was divided between the Crimean Khanate, Circassia, and the Ottoman Empire, which dominated in the region. Russia began to challenge the protectorate over the territory during the Russian-Turkish wars.

More historical facts…

In 1783, by decree of Catherine II, the right-bank Kuban and Taman Peninsula became part of the Russian Empire after the liquidation of the Crimean Khanate. In 1792-1793, Zaporozhye (Black Sea) Cossacks resettled here to protect new borders of the country along the Kuban River. During the military campaign to establish control over the North Caucasus (Caucasian War of 1763-1864), in the 1830s, the Ottoman Empire for forced out of the region and Russia gained access to the Black Sea coast.

Prior to the revolutionary events of 1917, most of the territory of present Krasnodar krai was occupied by the Kuban region, founded in 1860. In 1900, the population of the region was about 2 million people. In 1913, it ranked 2nd by gross harvest of grain, 1st place for the production of bread in the Russian Empire.

Kuban was one of the centers of resistance after the Bolshevik revolution of 1917. In 1918-1920, there was a non-Bolshevik Kuban People’s Republic. In 1924, North-Caucasian Krai was founded with the center in Rostov-on-Don. In 1934, it was divided into Azov-Black Sea Krai (Rostov-on-Don) and North Caucasus Krai (Stavropol).

On September 13, 1937, the Azov-Black Sea region was divided into Rostov Oblast and Krasnodar Krai that included Adygei Autonomous Oblast. During the Second World War, the region was captured by the Germans. After the battle for the Caucasus, it was liberated. There are about 1,500 monuments and memorials commemorating heroes of the war on the territory of Krasnodar Krai.

In 1991, the Adygei Autonomous Oblast withdrew from Krasnodar Krai and became the Republic of Adygea.

Krasnodar Krai - Features

Krasnodar Krai is located in the south-western part of the North Caucasus. The territory is washed by the Azov and Black Seas. The length of the region from north to south - 327 km, from west to east - 360 km. The Republic of Adygea, another federal subject of Russia, is located entirely within the Krasnodar region.

The Kuban River divides Krasnodar Krai into two parts: the northern - lowland (2/3 of the territory), located on the Kuban-Azov plain, and the southern - foothills and mountains (1/3 of the territory), located in the western highlands of the Greater Caucasus. The highest point is Mount Tsakhvoa (3,345 m).

The population is concentrated in the basin of the Kuban (also known as the Cossack land). The main cities and towns of Krasnodar Krai are Krasnodar (974,000), Sochi (433,500), Novorossyisk (277,000), Armavir (186,000), Anapa (95,900), Eisk (83,200), Kropotkin (76,300), Gelendzhik (75,100), Slavyansk-na-Kubani (67,200), Tuapse (60,400).

Krasnodar Krai is the warmest region of Russia. The climate is mostly temperate continental, on the Black Sea coast from Anapa to Tuapse - semi-arid Mediterranean climate, south of Tuapse - humid subtropical. Winters are mild and summers are hot. The average temperature in January in the plains is minus 3-5 degrees Celsius, on the Black Sea coast - 0-6 degrees Celsius, in July - plus 22-24 degrees Celsius.

Krasnodar Krai - Economy and Tourism

There are reserves of oil, natural gas, iodine-bromine water, marble, limestone, sandstone, gravel, silica sand, iron ore, rock salt, mercury, gypsum, gold. Krasnodar krai is Russia’s oldest oil producing region (since 1865).

The local economy is based on the industrial, construction, fuel and energy, agriculture, transport, resort and recreational, tourist sectors.

The seaports of the Krasnodar region provide direct access, through the Azov and the Black Seas, to international trade routes and handle more than 35% of foreign trade and transit cargoes of all Russian seaports. The air gateway of the region is Krasnodar International Airport (Pashkovsky Airport) - one of the largest airports in Russia.

Tourism is an important sector of the economy of Krasnodar krai. It is actively developing on the coast of the Black and Azov Seas, as well as in mountain and steppe districts of the region. The main centers of tourism are the resorts of federal significance (Sochi, Gelendzhik and Anapa) and the resorts of regional significance (Yeisk, Goryachiy Klyuch and Tuapse district).

Due to a combination of favorable climatic conditions, availability of mineral waters and curative mud, Krasnodar krai is the most popular resort and tourist region of Russia and in fact the only one in Russia seaside spa and recreational center.

Yacht Club's New Summer Menu Now Available

The Yacht Club has captured the essence of summer with new lunch, dinner and drinks menus that showcase the best flavors of the season.

The new menus feature a variety of soups, appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrees, including gluten-free and vegan items. They include new offerings as well as fan favorites such as fish and chips, jumbo soft pretzel with crab dip, the Cowboy burger, Crab Cobb salad and the Yacht Club Club sandwich.

New menu items include:

This year it took place on Dec. 14th starting at 7 pm. They were very well organized, the parade started on time. When the boats started the parade they kept going, making the loop a few times so you won't miss any! There are many points where you can watch it, you can rent boats as well or have dinner or coffee at various restaurants or coffee shops at the harbor! People are serious about the parade here, they come and park early, so plan accordingly! It can get breezy so wear a few layers. They sell hot chocolate, but at $5 it seemed overpriced! Otherwise, the boats are beautifully decorated, they keep things going and it's a great Christmas activity. It can't get more festive than this! My 9 yo son completed the junior novice two week learn to sail summer camp in July and loved loved love it! He was sailing a Terra RS solo and Naples Sabot singe handed around the buoys on day one and just got better and better and more enthusiastic each day. Learned trim, basic knots, rigging and points of sail and how to sail on and off the dock in short time and now feels confident and competent and keen to do the advanced courses offered . Will definitely rerun next summer and rent boats in between to stay tuned My son joined the club for the junior sailing team and it has been so awesome for him! The people there are the kind of people you want your growing teen to hang out with and Learn stuff about life. The older guys want to pass on their knowledge about boats and the people keeping the place together are sweet and generous. It is a quiet oasis in a busy harbor. Every kid should take sailing lessons...life skills! BTW, they figured out how to make popcorn in the big machine that is actually healthy! And the chef makes the best yacht club food. Our family really enjoyed our drinks and light snack at the Oceanside Yacht Club. We were guest so we had a pass to visit so we took 2 teenagers to watch the boats come in. It was really a great evening. Drinks were inexpensive and although we did not have dinner...which we heard on weekends they bring in a chef is quite good. We only stayed for drinks and light snacks but it was fun, casual and all the patrons and the bartender were very friendly. I like that it's low key and very comfortable. I hope we get invited next year we will definitely make a point of enjoying the weekend dinner. A really laid back club and a very pleasant visit. We stayed at the guest dock on a Monday night. Arrangements were easy to make and dockmaster Rick made sure that we were secure and had everything we needed. Joe the bartender greeted us in the club and made us feel welcome. Overall, the claim "The friendliest yacht club on the west coast " we found to be absolutely true. I don't know when you came to Oceanside Yacht Club but its a very friendly club. There is great warmth and charm and I am sure if you just walked up to one of the members and started chatting you would be welcomed. I am tasked every year with the planning of the company Christmas Party. Last night we had ours at the Oceanside Yacht Club. We had about 65 ppl in attendance. The venue was decorated beautifully and not a detail was left to spare. Evelyn went above and beyond to decorate and prepare for our event. We had buffet style dining (which worked out well). John worked tirelessly in the kitchen and presented us with an AMAZING meal. Our menu included, Prime Rib, Garlic Chicken, Honey Habanero Salmon, Roasted Potatoes & Roasted Vegetables. For Dessert - John impressed us all with his incredible Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce. SIMPLY WOW! Overall our employees and their families had a very enjoyable evening thanks to the hard work and dedication of the entire staff of the Oceanside Yacht Club. Members were less than friendly when approached. One incident comes to mind. My wife & 25 year old daughter stopped in for a drink. Dayghter forgot I.D. Even after my wife vouched for her & said she was the girls mother the bartender declined service. So then they went back to boat to get license clear over on K dock. Close to a half mile away. Upon returning the bartender claimed the license was damaged & not valid. Is this a bartender in a private club or a cop. By the way my daughter is 60% disabled from service in Marines. Do not waste your money on joining this club! HighSchool mentality.Thats my experience an it's all true. Our first full day in Moscow started fairly late since we were still catching up on sleep.  Around 1, we finally were able to get our act together and get out the door.  We stopped by a cafe to get some breakfast and headed over to the Red Square.  Since the festival is going on, we had to go through metal detectors.  Once we cleared security, we reached the State Historical Museum which provided an entrance to the Red Square. We walked the length of the Red Square, passing by the Kazan cathedral. Under normal conditions, the Red Square is a large walking area with the State Historical Museum on one end and St. Basil's on the other end.  On the sides is the Kremlin wall on one side and then the GUM shopping mall and the Kazan cathedral on the other side.  Presently, the walking area has been considerably narrowed and the fesitval grounds occupying a large space between the Kremlin and the mall. We even asked a stranger to take our picture! After walking around the Red Square, we had to leave to meet up with our Metro Tour.   Moscow has famously pretty metro stations so metro tours are quite popular.  We booked a relatively inexpensive tour through a tour group which met outside of the Red Square. On our way, we passed by the Kremlin gardens and the tomb to the unknown soldier and the eternal flame. We soon met up with our group which, fortunately, was only 5 people.  Our guide told us that we were going to visit 8 stations during the 1.5 hour tour.   Honestly, a lot of the stations blended in to me so I won't be able to give you a detailed description of all of them.  However, I did learn that there are 222 metro stations and the trains come every 2-3 minutes reliably.  For that reason, Moscow > DC.  One of the first metro stations we visited had bronze statues all over of various depictions.  Many of the statues had superstitions tied to them.  For example, for a statue of the dog, it's held that if you rub the nose of the dog, you'll have good luck.  Consequently, most of the statue is tarnished - except for the nose.  I joked to Tomas that they probably rotate the "good luck" portion of the statue to ensure the entire statue gets polished. However, I do remember some of the stations. Novoslobodskaya is a station adorned with stained glass on the walls. There was also Belarusskaya, which paid tribute to Belarus. Another station which name I cannot remember but had pretty mosaics in the ceilings. My favorite station was Komsomolskaya.  It's the busiest station and a hub for other connecting trains.  It was built during Statlin times and he wanted the station to embody beauty to set a good first impression to Russia. I'd seen pictures of it beforehand since it's the most famous but it's so much more impressive in person. Look at these ceilings! Overall it was a very interesting tour.  Not sure of any other city which could offer a metro tour.  DC certainly can't... After the tour, we headed back of the hotel to rest for a bit.  We had purchased tickets to a tour hour boat down the Moscow river.  The tickets were good for any time on any day and the boats left every 20min.  We decided to knock the tour out that day and headed over to the pier.   We arrived at the pier and saw a boat by the company we had purchased from boarding.  We approached and they shook their head and said it wasn't the right boat.  So we waited for another boat. Another boat came along by the same company we had purchased from so weapproached them.  Again - we were told it wasn't the right boat and the boat we were looking for was coming.   A third boat came along which was NOT by the company we had purchased from.  By this point, it had been longer than 20min waiting and I was starting to suspect that the correct boat was actually one of the ones which turned us away.   We approached the 3rd boat to ask if they knew which boat we should be on.  However, when we approached,  they waved us aboard without scanning our tickets. So, we boarded the 3rd boat....which was definitely not ours. We settled into an upper deck, open air table to take in the views. We passed by pretty buildings. The somewhat impressive cathedral of Christ the Savior. This random statue. After about hour on the cruise, Tomas remarked that it had been about an hour so we should be turning around soon.  I reminded him that we actually had no idea how long this cruise was or where we would be dropped off.  Since we were on the wrong boat. Fortunately, it did turn around and took us back to the pier.   For dinner, we decided to go to this burger place, Black Star Burger, which our guide told us about.  Tomas really liked his - I thought mine was OK.  It was a decent size patty with a mountain of Cole slaw on top.  We've realized that apparently Russians dislike getting their hands dirty while eating so some restaurants will give out gloves to use.  This particular restaurant gave out black gloves. Since little mum has been asking about pictures which show my feet, I assume she wanted to see my new shoes.  I recently bought Allbirds which are suppose to be super comfortable walking shoes which you wear without socks and can be washed.  I didn't wear them too extensively beforehand, so that was probably my first error.  I also didn't bring another pair of good walking shoes,  which was likely my second error.  The Allbirds were great the first two days without socks.  Midway through the third day, my right foot was quite unhappy. Left foot was a trooper.
