But, simplicity aside, the real genius of the Puddle Duck is the childlike innocence it brings to sailing. Tearing along at 3 knots as if possessed by a wide-eyed eagerness to seek out the unlikeliest, most ridiculous way to do things, the Puddle Duck is a boat designed for play. I'm struck by the design's utter lack of pretension.

The Puddle Duck Racer is a class of sailboat designed by Shorty (David Routh), frequent contributor to Duckworks Magazine and maintainer both his website www.shortypen.com and the website devoted to PD Racers www.pdracer.com. The PD Racer was designed specifically to get the most out of a boat that can be built quickly and cheaply.

Building a Puddle Duck Racer. by Bill Nolen - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma - USA. I first became aware of the little "Puddle Duck Racer" while reading an article about the 2008 Texas 200 sailing marathon. The article told how a handful of iron-willed, and iron-bottomed sailors, sailed their tiny home-built four-foot by eight-foot sailboats for five ...

  12. Joe Lanni's LUCKY DUCK

The Puddle Duck Racer was the brainchild of David "Shorty" Routh, who devised the class in 2003 so that amateur boatbuilders could get out on the water, easily and cheaply. Shorty enjoyed building boats, messing about in boats, and racing boats. But when he realized there was no club that catered to and encouraged all three, he established his own and created the 8′-LOA Puddle Duck Racer ...

The Boat: The Puddle Duck for the Everglades Challenge will not be a lightweight racing boat. It will need to be solid enough to shrug off nature but light enough to carry the skipper and a load of stores. It needs to be comfortable to sail since, no matter how nice nature is, the skipper will spend a lot of time in the boat.

  16. 8' Puddle Duck, 12' Puddle Goose...10' Eider Duck?

81sf Balanced Lug. That would be a 'pdcruiser' which is 2 feet shorter than a pdgoose and 2 feet longer than a pd 'duck' (or 'pdracer'). They used to be mentioned at the pdracer.com website. The 10 ft should be a much faster boat and probably better suited for 'raid races' the 8 ft pdracers are used in. I never learned a thing from an argument ...

Puddle Duck Racers with Cabins. There are many different ways to make your sailboat habitable for sleeping, the simplest is to pull the hull up on a beach, lay down in the cockpit and close your eyes. An upgrade from that is to put a mosquito net over your head. Mind over matter philosophy: If you don't mind, it don't matter.
