Seeking out other Truant 37 ownersI own a Truant Triad 37 and would like to hear from other Truant 37 owners or at least those that know of the boats and might know something about them. Thanks We purchased our Truant 37' Pilot House in early spring 2018. She was rebuilt and re-powered in 2010 and is named Mood Indigo. Our hailing port is Anacortes WA. We are always willing to meet and sail with others. In May 2019 we did a 10 day flotilla with 10 other boats, mostly power trawlers up from Anacortes/Bellingham to BC Canada Princess Louisa Inlet and eventually Chatterbox falls. It was a good time, but 4 straight days of motoring to make the 40+ miles each day was rough. in 2018 we did 5 days from Bellingham to Victoria, Friday Harbor and back, then we moved to Anacortes. We have been told we are hull #18, unsure if that is total for all the 37 or just the Pilot House model. AttachmentsWow, sounds like you've been busy!! I would love to get up to PL someday. Funny story, when my late father-in-law bought Madrisa in 1997 up in Sydney, he sailed it from his homeport (Olympia) all the way up PL that summer. Sydney-Olympia-Princess Louisa-Olympia. Now that's breaking it in! I am good friends with some local flotilla leaders and have wanted to do that for awhile but the time just doesn't work out as my wife and I are teachers here in Anacortes which, by the way, I see you are also homeported in Anacortes. Where about? If you're ever in the Anacortes Marina, give me a heads up. By the way, Mood Indigo looks amazing from your picture. I've never seen an all-painted hull like that and indigo looks great. You can check out more about our Truant on my site: https://myboatingaddiction.wordpress.com Robland, Which marina do you moor at? I tend to walk the docks from time to time and would love to stroll past her. If you'd like to check of Madrisa, I'd love to show her off. Jason Gentlemen, I am considering making an offer on a Truant 37 PH and would greatly appreciate any insight or problem areas that I should pay particular attention to. Thank you in advance for your time on this matter. R, Dan Hi Dan, Just seeing this post. Did you end up making an offer? Jason Top Contributors this Month- BOAT OF THE YEAR

A few years back, I departed Port Angeles, Washington, on board a fine little Truant 33 named Chesapeake and pointed her bow north toward the wild British Columbia coastline. I was 17 years old, and by then I had perfected the art of avoiding school by pirating the family boat and leaving the country for a few weeks at a time. The fact that I was using a boat called a Truant 33 as a means to enable my truancy was no small irony, but I can thank Truant Marine for a lot more than choosing a tasteful name. The Truant 33 was designed by the legendary William Garden as a small seaworthy sailing vessel for cruising the cold, turbulent waters of the Pacific Northwest year-round in safety and comfort. Rare on vessels this size, the Truant 33’s pilothouse offers welcome protection from the region’s famous “liquid sunshine.” The Truant 33 was first built in 1977 on Saltspring Island in British Columbia, where Truant Marine produced 30 or so vessels before selling the molds to Saturna Yachts in 1981. Saturna then built the almost-identical Saturna 33 throughout the ’80s, and eventually sold the molds to Wiggers Yachts in Ontario. There are usually a few used vessels to be found on the market, especially in the Pacific Northwest, with a price tag ranging from $30,000 to $60,000. The Truant packs many unique features into her modest 33 feet, most notably the incorporation of the pilothouse and a very roomy and usable layout down below for living aboard. For those who prefer a more traditional cabin top, the offshore version was built without a pilothouse. There are various interpretations of the classic layout, but the most common one is with a quarter berth and nav station to starboard with the inside steering station just forward and a dinette to port, which folds down into a double berth. Moving forward, there is a step down to a small enclosed head and hanging locker to starboard and a galley to port that rivals that of many 40-foot vessels. In the bow is either a large V-berth with stowage under or two staggered crew bunks with one raised to make for even more stowage space below. There is standing headroom throughout the cabin, and space to sleep up to five people. Abovedecks, the Truant 33 has a very secure cockpit, which is given further protection by the pilothouse. The cockpit is small — a nice feature in heavy seas, but it makes for a bit of a squeeze when accommodating guests — though the roomy cabin makes up for that space. She has a very prominent bow and canoe stern, which, along with her pilothouse, make her stand out in every harbor she visits. She also sails surprisingly well for such a heavy boat of this size, and in rough weather gives a feeling of security and seaworthiness. The 30-inch-wide side decks and high bulwarks make it easy and safe to move around deck. Most Truant 33s were set up as sloops, but I have seen where some owners added an inner forestay and running backstays to convert to a cutter rig. Underneath the waterline, she sports a long fin keel with a rudder on a skeg. In my sailing career, I have more memories made aboard the Truant 33 than on any other design. Along the way we encountered plenty of challenges, yet she took me there and back again safely every time. And she still does. | | LOA | 33′ (10.06m) | LWL | 26’9″ (8.15m) | Beam | 10’8″ (3.25m) | Draft | 5’4″ (1.62m) | Sail Area | 505 sq.ft. Condition The boat has been well cared for and the sails are very crisp and still crinkle. The rigging is solid but would need inspecting before bluewater sailing. The bottom paint and the hull have fresh paint as of 2022, and the batteries were replaced last week. The port side fuel tanks was been decommissioned prior to purchase for reasons unknown. However, a smaller 18 gallon tank has been in its place, and there is room for a larger tank. The engine runs very well according to the seller. Truant Triad (Turtle) 37. I have a Truant 37 offshore and understandably have a difficult time finding much about them. My father In Law bought it 20 years ago. He told me that there were 36 total 37 footers made, of which only 8 were offshore models. I know Mike Betts built them back in the 80's and 90's up in the Gulf Islands.
truant 37 (talisman III) My wife and I have been sailing since the 80's and owned several boats, we are very happy with our new boat! My son and I delivered it in a winter storm from Victoria B.C. and it performed beautifully, very sea worthy. The 3 cylinder yanmar is bombproof, no experience with the vw's.
