After many years of travelling the oceans on high performance Gunboat Catamarans, Bruce and Nora have gone to The Dark Side! Their new project is venturing into the ice aboard the Steve Dashew designed expedition motoryacht "Ugly Betty". Built in 2015, and designed with High Latitude sailing in mind, she is ruggedly built in aluminum, and capable of passages of up to 6000 nautical miles without refueling.
In the last year, we have successfully completed a trip from the US East Coast as far north as Disko Island, Greenland and back. Join us on our continuing adventures. Plans for 2023 include motoring through the Bahamas and Eastern Caribbean Islands, followed by a transatlantic voyage to the Azores, British Isles, Iceland, Greenland, and an attempt at the Northwest Passage to Alaska.

The FPB 70 was the last of the FPB fleet to be designed and to go into build. They were developed for family cruising with guests providing a bridge between the FPB 64 and the larger FPB 78 which has the potential to carry crew, to deliver an owner-driver yacht with flexible guest accommodation.
2 x FPB 70s were delivered and are cruising now.
With the same trademark bare metal good looks as the rest of the fleet, they offer a significant upgrade to the FPB 64 in terms of interior volume and deck space on the aft deck. The basement area beneath the great room soleboards was arranged to provide a very usable space with headroom in some areas to make the stowing of equipment, spares and tools simple. It also provides the opportunity to create walk in wardrobes from the main accommodation in this generous space.
The great room is on the same theme as the rest of the fleet as with the owners’ stateroom which is situated forward.
More volume aft of the great room provides a more spacious area for guest with 2 good cabins and the ability to create a large guest stateroom when cruising long term with another couple.
The matrix deck is more developed than on the FPB 64 and takes much of its design from Steve and Linda Dashew’s experience with the matrix on their FPB 78 COCHISE, it has the option of an enclosure and easy access to the coachroof making it a second saloon both at anchor and at sea.
Twin screw like the FPB 78, they are definitely owner driver motor yachts and are easily handled with a crew of 2 and guests. The engine room is large and with good access to all systems, including transfers, steering and pumps. It also features a practical workshop space which is essential when cruising off grid.
They are able to surf in the correct conditions and to cross oceans reliably providing fast passage times and to provide a smooth ride for their crews to avoid fatigue which is a real risk when cruising short-handed.
