Whether you're an experienced sailor or you want to learn more, there are many ways we can help you get on the water from Largs. Largs is home to a thriving boating community with sailing schools, yacht clubs, cruises, rallies, chartering and regattas. Welcome aboard!

Learn to sail

The best way to learn how to sail or drive a motorboat, is to take an RYA-approved course. RYA Powerboat Level 2 and RYA Competent Crew courses teach you the basics of boating and help build your confidence on the water.

Various companies in Largs provide these courses which can be tailored to you, your boat or your group.

Hire a boat

There are several ways to hire or charter a boat. A 's kippered charter' is an excellent choice if you've never chartered before, or you want to sail a yacht that’s larger than you’re comfortable with or you simply want more time to rest and relax. Alternatively, you can choose a 'bareboat' option where, subject to your experience and qualifications, you can hire the boat and skipper it yourself.

Many companies based at Largs Yacht Haven provide a range of boating opportunities from half-day RIB experiences to sailing charters, holidays, corporate days out and boating events.

New Boat Sales & Brokerage

We have experienced brokers and new boat sales agents on-site who can help with your boat sale or purchase, and are always on hand to offer any advice you may need.

Visiting rallies

Visiting clubs and rallies are very welcome at the marina, with a range of facilities available to suit your party. We will endeavour to berth your rally together on our pontoons, with access to free Wi-Fi, water and electricity for all boats. By arrangement, we'll be happy to provide facilities within Largs Sailing Club including the use of their meeting & function rooms. For rallies of over 5 boats, we offer a special visitor berthing rate.

Regattas & sailing events

Largs is a lively marina, host to many sailing championships and events throughout the year. This year, with great sadness, despite encouraging progress being made towards the easing of lockdown, many of our popular regattas and sailing events have been postponed for the year. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the 2021 editions.

Yacht Clubs

At the heart of our marina community are our yacht clubs. They play key roles in the smooth operations of events, whether it be international fleet regattas or in-house club racing.

Largs Sailing Club

The Club organises a range of activities for all ages and abilities, from the teaching of beginners by the LSTA to hosting large national and world championship events.

Fairlie Yacht Club

Fairlie Yacht Club offers its members a comprehensive programme of racing, cruising, and social events throughout the year.

Largs Regatta Festival

The racing year culminates in our flagship regatta. A festival of boating in late-August with keelboat and dinghy alongside a packed shoreside programme.

COURSE DETAILS - Start Here!

Learn to skipper a powerboat, and take charge safely on passages with friends and family, or be able to hire a powerboat in the uk or abroad. you will need this 2-day rya powerboat level 2 (coastal/tidal) course if you want to be safe & legal. you don't need to do the level 1 first, and no prior experience is required. it's a pretty packed two-days, however, and close-quarters berthing, high-speed, anchoring, mooring, navigation, ropework, emergencies and man-over-board recovery are all part of the course, as well many other safety and operational topics such as launch and recovery are covered. the courses are 2 days with arrival from 0845hrs at our largscentre with a max of 3 per power boat. return is for about 1700hrs and each day is spent on board either on the firth of clyde & islands or loch lomond. training takes place during the day on a teaching and continual-assessment basis so there is no exam or test. this is designed as an enjoyable powerboating experience with rya training..

Covers the practical use of pilotage and passage planning by day on coastal waters using both traditional and electronic navigational techniques. It aims to teach the standard required to complete a short coastal passage by day. This course builds on the foundation knowledge of the Level 2 course and is suited to those who aim to drive larger more powerful powerboats. During the course you will cover cruising at planing speed and more advanced boat handling. It is recommended for anyone considering moving on to the Advanced course. The course can be conducted on a planing or displacement boat.

Candidates should be competent to the standard of RYA Powerboat Level 2. It is strongly recommended that candidates hold a first aid and VHF/SRC operator's certificate and have knowledge to the level of Day Skipper theory.

Planning a day cruise, boat preparation, boat handling, pilotage, passage making, man overboard.

Able to plan and execute short coastal passages by day

Predominantly practical but with some classroom elements. The aim of the practical session is to put into practice the theory and complete a passage.
