We went for my cousin's wedding and it was fantastic. Beautiful venue for a small, sweet ceremony. The view is beautiful, even with the smoke, and on a cool, clear night it would be even better. The bartenders were friendly, even though both looked overwhelmed, or maybe slightly annoyed, by our party. I couldn't quite tell. Great place to get married, if you have a small guest list, under 40 people. Since they didn't provide the food or decorations, I can really only comment as I did above.

My wife and I were invited as guests to Tahoe Yacht Club last week for a Monday night football game viewing. Fantastic and as friendly as any night-on-the-town can be with friends. The Tahoe Yacht Club location is 'smack' on the Lake. Their interior is a typical with memorabilia as you will find any where - and very inviting. You can sit at the bar or at ample and comfortable tables/chairs and view (in this case the Monday game) from multiple flatscreens and monitors. Or you can venture out on to their lakefront deck and have a commanding vista of the Lake - in all directions. The Club offers a full bar and very attentive staff (male and female) to make your fave-bev. Prices are unbeatable - remember - this is a private club. The Club does not have it's own kitchen, thus most others this evening were invited to BYO - fantastic: chips, dips, salads, casaroles (spelling, sorry) AND something called the YACHT dog (can you figure out what that means? Nothing complicated - but for $1 and all the condiments - I splurged for 2). The evening was about as hospitable as Tahoe City can offer. Thank you TYC. I may even join, with or without a boat.

Excellent place! I came in for the weekend and since my yacht club is on their "sister club" list, I decided to stop by for a beer. Everyone was very friendly, chatty and genuine. They have a great bar selection, staff and club members. I'll be sure to stop in again and kick my feet up on their patio and chat up the locals.

Great private yacht club open to members of other Pacific Coast Clubs. Wonderful location with very nice staff. The view from the deck is great.

Testimonials.

"Highlight of our weekend! Hands down the best part of our weekend in the Lake Tahoe area!! Signing up for the sunset cruise was done over the phone because there was only 1 spot left and there were 2 of us wanting to go. The young lady who helped register us was super kind as was all the staff on the boat. Captain Tyler and his crew were amazing and it was a real pleasure to sail with them!!"

Fort Worth, TX Ellen H.

"Spent the afternoon of the 4th on a 2 hour sail. Wonderful way to spend an afternoon on the lake. Great crew. Serves beer/wine and did a good job if controlling the partners on the boat. A variety of folks on the boat - families, couples and small group (4). We were able to distance on the boat from others on the trip. Very enjoyable! Personable crew and beautiful views."

Philadelphia, PA MS F

"Picturesque tour of the lake! I had a blast! It was such a great way to experience the lake in a non touristy way. My wife and I had a great time and met a couple new friends on the boat.""

LAKE TAHOE’S PREMIERE SAILING CHARTER SINCE 1998

In 2015, Captain Tyler became the new partner in ownership we added a power yacht called the Tahoe Dreamer for bareboat charters, along with our iconic 50’ sailboat, the Tahoe Cruz. Our captains and crew know this lake and its sailing conditions better than anyone on the water.

How to Join the Tahoe Yacht Club

Ship steering wheel on wall

History of the Tahoe Yacht Club

In 1925, Lake Tahoe was a haven for the elite, who built stunning mansions along the north and west shores of the lake. Each home was exquisitely crafted with native stone, regal architecture, and many featured stained glass windows.

In the early days of Lake Tahoe, the roads were not yet paved. The area became a destination for those adventurous or wealthy enough to make the challenging journey to its shores. The fresh mountain air, white sand beaches and crystal clear waters was the reward for those who came to Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe Yacht Club Founders

Many of the founders were members of the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco. The first Commodore of the Tahoe Yacht Club was Edwin Letts Oliver. Their original facility was actually located on the grounds of the spectacular Ehrman Estate, which is Sugar Pine State Park today.

By creating what became the Tahoe Yacht Club, they promoted sociability, power boating, and aquatic activities in the spirit of good sportsmanship on Lake Tahoe. This elite group would establish the vision for Lake Tahoe’s development over the early 20 th century.

These visionaries included Stanley Dollar, Henry Kaiser and Sydney Ehrman. Today, their mansions stand as architectural masterpieces to Lake Tahoe’s elegant past.

As these San Francisco families gathered at Lake Tahoe to enjoy holiday boating, the ‘wooden boat’ became a status symbol. Boats made by Chris Craft, Garwood and Century featured burnished mahogany hulls with glistening chrome.

Tahoe Yacht Club Activities

As their casual boating contests grew in popularity and attracted spectators, they added several regattas and water ski carnivals with a reigning Queen. Junior Outboard Regattas and sailing regattas came soonafter.

In 1972, they launched the Concours d'Elegance or Lake Tahoe’s wooden boat show as a yearly event. The Concours d’Elegance has remained an August highlight in Carnelian Bay for serious boat enthusiasts.

Today, club members can enjoy special dinners like the Gin Fizz Summer Season Opener and Blessing of the Fleet in May. This year-round Club offers a wide range of social and outdoor activities. Membership is available to full-time Lake Tahoe residents, or members who spend part-time at Lake Tahoe.

During the spring and summer, the Club offers sailing and power boating programs. Members can enjoy golf, tennis and bocce ball events, with access to kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and a fleet of Pico, Sunfish and Laser sailboats.

The Tahoe Yacht Club Penguins meet to ski at local ski areas, and enjoy an active social schedule of bridge games, wine tastings, and dinners. Special events include the Kentucky Derby, Super Bowl Sunday, New Year’s Party and the very popular monthly First Friday parties, with excellent hosted hors d’oeuvres.

The Club still holds the vision of bringing boating enthusiasts together to make new friends, and to share an active outdoor lifestyle.
