Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design is seeking a Naval Architect to join its award-winning team in Lymington, UK. Malcolm McKeon has been a leading designer in the superyacht industry for over 40 years.  His portfolio includes more than 200 sailing and motor yachts, 55 of them in excess of 30m in length.

Job description

• contribute to the exterior and interior design of a new build superyacht focusing on the technical and naval architecture aspects of the design

• create and adapt designs, drawings and technical calculations and ensure they comply with current regulations and Clients’ requirements

• work closely with a host of external parties and our internal team

General requirements

• three+ years relevant work experience, ideally in the design of large yachts

• past experience in all project phases required—from concept to build process to delivery

• impeccable attention to detail and strong work ethic

• good time management skills; delivering work on time and to a high standard

• excellent visual and verbal communication skills

• must work well within a varied team

• fluency in English

• must have the legal right to work in the UK/sponsorship not available

Technical requirements

• excellent AutoCAD and Rhino (or similar) modelling skills required

• good understanding of naval architecture principles and ability to produce design calculations (previous experience with the Maxsurf suite would be ideal)

• knowledge of the design and engineering of aluminium structures (knowledge of Lloyds SSC would be beneficial)

• understanding of relevant Flag and Class requirements for large yachts is essential

• evidence on CV of technical detailing

• understanding of boatbuilding methods, materials, and requirements

Boat Builders

MARINE ELECTRICIANS

We have vacancies for a number of Marine Electricians across our main sites in Southampton and Wroxham, Norfolk, to help us meet the growing demand for our range of luxury yachts. We have Marine Electrician jobs suitable for a range of people, from two to three years’ experience to the most highly experienced marine industry professionals. You’ll be working together in teams to build yachts that circumnavigate the world.

BENCH JOINERS

To help us meet the growing demand for our range of luxury yachts we are hiring a number of full-time Bench Joiners in Southampton and Wroxham, Norfolk. We have Bench Joiner jobs suitable for people ranging from junior level to highly experienced professionals.

Our yachts are built to circumnavigate the world so we are looking for joiners with a keen eye for precision and quality, and who enjoy working as part of a multi-skilled team to meet deadlines. You will have at least two years’ experience, ideally in the marine industry, but you could also be currently working in related areas that require the same high levels of craftsmanship and quality.

MARINE LAMINATORS

We are hiring a number of Marine Laminators in Southampton and Ashmanhaugh, Norfolk, to help us meet the growing demand for our range of luxury yachts. We have Marine Laminator jobs suitable for a range of experience levels – from the most highly experienced to those who will need training and mentoring from our expert team.

We are looking for people with a keen eye for precision and quality, and who enjoy working as part of a multi-skilled team to meet deadlines. Ideally you will have relevant experience in Hand and/or Composite Laminating but for more junior roles we’re also offering self-motivated individuals the opportunity to get the training and mentorship you need to build your career.

MARINE ENGINEERS

We are looking for Marine Engineers to work in Southampton and our Wroxham site in Norfolk. The Marine Engineer jobs require experienced industry professionals who will help us to meet the growing demand for our range of luxury yachts.

Our yachts are built to circumnavigate the world so we are looking for people with excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills who enjoy working as part of a multi-skilled team to meet deadlines.  You will be responsible for a wide variety of systems and components across our range of world-class yachts. You will have at least two years’ relevant experience and be comfortable with innovation and new challenges.

Main Purpose

• To provide effective leadership and management of the Art and Design department

Duties and Responsibilities

Leading Teaching & Learning

• Ensure effective teaching and learning strategies are in place across the whole department in support of the school improvement plan
• Lead teaching of Art and Design, implementing a progressive and challenging curriculum
• Implement teaching and learning methodologies in the department as set out by the school’s Senior Leadership Team
• Monitor and evaluate standards of teaching, student progress, and classroom management across the department
• Ensure assessment within the department is of the highest standard
• Undertake Quality Assurance, identifying areas of strength and areas for development
• Set high expectations for staff and students
• Plan and oversee educational visits and/or events appropriate to the curriculum or subject area
• Provide evidence of subject contributions to students’ wider development (e.g., SMSC)

Working with Others

• Actively support the school and trust’s values and vision through the work of the department
• Make a positive contribution to the wider life of the school
• Work with other Heads of Department, Middle Leaders, and Senior Leaders on curriculum and school-wide issues

Leading and Managing Staff

• Lead and motivate the team, ensuring a focus on improving student outcomes
• Encourage effective teamwork, collaboration, sharing, reflection, a joint sense of purpose, and a supportive team culture

• Lead/Chair meetings as required
• Attendance at Governor/Trust meetings as required
• Deliver assemblies
• Deputise for Leadership Team as required
