Looking at the 27 center console with a hard top. Probably powered w/ twin 175 Suzuki motors. Only drawback I have seen is the fuel tank size(110gals.) Not sure what my range would be on that amount, but would like to get offshore and BACK without carrying gas cans. Honda is also an option with twin 150's. Any input would be greatly appreciated and if you own one I would love to come look at it without driving to MD.:help: Oh and by the way, my present boat is up for sale. Many of you know her and may have a buddy looking for a GREAT boat. I just want to move up to offshore capability.

I think Dare Marine in Yorktown sells Judge Yachts?? Do a lot of investigating before purchasing any boat for offshore use.....You are correct to question the fuel capacity and fuel use. A single diesel may be worth consideration. Barclay Shepard has a New boat at Salt Ponds Marina that may fill your desires) Ibeleive it is called a New World Boat??). Talk to Barclay Shepard in the Peninsula Salt Water Sport Fishing club. I had my heart set on a 35 Maine Coaster made by Henriques Boat works in NJ ; very well built, slow speed. They make single diesel and twin diesel Maine Coaster's . Henriues also makes a twin 28 that looks very capable? Bob Allen, Hampton

Yacht world .com lists this like new twin diesel sport fisherman.....looks like a good buy to me. 28' Henriques Express Fisherman Only 97 Hours •Year: 2004 •Current Price: US$ 114,900 •Located In Ocean County, NJ •Hull Material: Fiberglass •Engine/Fuel Type: Twin Diesel •YW# 54449-2252330 Boballen

my 1st reaction is the tanks too small. you might be fine given ideal conditions but any trouble off-shore & your on one motor fuel consumption is gonna go up.

Truworld Marine 2810 Single Diesel 150 gallons fuel capacity.....that is Barclay Shepards Boat.....I bet he has nothing bad to say about it at all. Bob Allen

December 12, 2009 Capt. Barclay shepard On December 12, 2009, we fished the "Bluewater Yacht Sales Rockfish Tournament" out of Hampton, Va. in our 28 ft True Word Marine "Smooth Operator." We took 1st place in this highly competitive tournament with a 41lb 3oz striped bass (locally called rockfish). Boat handled great. We are at 225 hours and are averaging around 2.6 mpg at cruise (3300 - 3500 RPM, 22 knots). This boat is giving us opportunites that we did not have previously in our fuel inefficient and highly un-dependable sport fisher. Here are some tournament pics! Thanks George!

First, I'm sure they could put an extra tank in for you, second, you should be fine, I have a 200 gallon tank with twin 150's and can do two OC offshore trips on one tank without worrying, And I go to the canyons, 72 miles from the slip to the Tip of balt. If you fish down south, OBX you will have more then enough fuel. Third I have no idea what the dead rise is on that judge, but they look like a bay boat, if its anything less then 21 deg at the transom, re-think it if your looking for an offshore boat.

Hey Fourth Island, I've got a 27 Chesapeake.....brand new built this year. I picked it up April 6 this year and currently have 420 hours on it. I'm on the water full time so I have many hours. The hull is the same in the Chesapeake as the 27 CC. I have only run in the bay and can't speak for off-shore capabilities with the hull. What I can tell you is the boat runs great in a chop, gets very good fuel economy for a 27' boat. I average very close to 3 miles a gallon with a full load on the boat. The CC model will probably get 3+ depending on how you run it with one engine....with 2 I don't know about that.....I do know it would be a monster of a boat!!! My boat is built very well and all (about 400 folks so far) people who have been on it think it's great. Kimbro on the Chesapeake board has a new 27'CC....talking to him would be a good thing for you. 110 gallons will take you a long way with one engine on the back. I don't know about the 2 engine set up. My 27 Chesapeake will go about 38 MPH with a full load. Plenty of power for what I do on the bay. The ride is soft in a heavy sea and quite stable at drift....Beam is 8'10". I'll be down to the CBBT this winter with it....can't wait!!! Good luck with your choice!!!!!! Pete

The cruise for the 27cc with twins yeilds about 2mpg with regular fishing load (boat will do better in flat seas). My father runs an older heavier Judge 27 cabin model with older twin Honda 130's offshore out of Avalon NJ and his trips yeild him 2nmpg overall. He makes trips to the canyons and back with no issue and has the standard 110gal fuel capacity. More fuel capacity is an option too if you are wanting it. Judge has a number of customers who run their 27s offshore on a regular basis. My father is just one of them. Check out the Judge Yachts Facebook page ( http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/group.php?gid=205502326377&ref=ts ) where we have a customer down in your area who runs a 27cc offshore regularly. There are photos of the crew with blue marlin, white marlin, yellowfin, bluefin, etc. Also PM "The Mitigator" here on Tidalfish. He also runs a 27cc and has made several trips offshore out of Oregon Inlet even though he is a Maryland guy. All Judges are 3 piece hulls (cap, liner, hull) and use all the finest wood-free composite materials. She has a high bow and a carolina-style warped plane hull and is more than offshore capable. Here is a thread on the economy of Judge boats.. Thread starter has a single 250 Suzuki http://www.tidalfish.com/forums/showthread.php/267985-Fuel-economy-You-be-the-Judge

27 Judge I have owned 3 boats built by Bill Judge (34', 31' & 27') and I would not hesitated to run offshore in any of them. The 27 Judge is a great boat in any of its configurations ( CC, Chesapeake or Downeast). Additional tankage for fuel can be easlly added since they are pretty much custom boats. Just tell Bill what you need and he will design a well balance, great running boat.

what other boats have you looked at - Engine bracket???

Looked @ the seacraft, mako and a couple of customs. Trying to stay under a certain number . there are a few others that I fancy but the $ figure is a little too high. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanx for all the feedback,b-mail and e-mail. I will look around at some of the other makes and models available. Not all the Judges are bay boats check out the website. ( to Capt Nemo). I am still pretty enthused with the 27 cc. Ric, what type of boat are you running? Your descriptor of a 26 cc w/ twin 150's is in the parameters of which I am trying to find.

I have an angler 26 with twin f150 Yamahas, and I 'm not saying they are all bay boats, but they are definitely not Carolina boats, there are specific characteristics associated with the Carolina boat and judge doesn't have them, not saying there is anything wrong with that, but say it how it is.

i think one of the bigger seahunts would fit the bill for a 25-27cc w twins on a budget. for the money, you wont do better. there are lots of owners here that im sure would take you for a ride. i have a 25 maycraft that is very close to the specs of the 27 judge. similar hull configuration and deadrise. i take it offshore several (10+) times a year, but i pick my days. you will get beat up if it gets snotty, and it has a tendency to bow steer in certain situations. these boats are built for a short, steep bay chop (and they ride great in it), not swells with wind waves....trust me on that. judges are a bit lighter boat. thats good sometimes, bad others. i like the composite construction. i think it would be fine if thats what you decide.

While the configuration of a Maycraft hull may be similar to the Judge, their attributes are quite bit different. (I owned a Maycraft for 3 years prior to owning my Judge). First of all, the Judge is not prone to the bow stear problem like that of the pilothouse Maycraft. A lot of that has to do with a balance of a boat and the following sea bow stear problem that the maycraft is prone to is due to the bow-heavy pilothouse. Even on my own Judge Chesapeake, I can let go of the wheel in a following sea, which is something I wouldnt do in my previous maycraft. The cc version of the boat is a completely different animal. The weight is balanced a lot different due to the top deck layout and you are riding much further back on the hull. I will admit that if offshore work is the ulitmate goal of an angler, riding near the bow on a pilothouse boat may not be the best choice. Riding near the bow on a boat of any configuration makes the passengers feel the seas more. However, the center console version of the hull is more than capable for regular offshore work. To the original poster: As state previously, Judge has a customer in the VA Beach area with a 27cc who runs offshore on a regular basis. He can be found on the Judge Yachts Facebook page. Be sure to look him up and send him a message for his personal experiences. I will see if Bill has his contact info and try to send it to you too.

I have a 09 Judge 27 CC and have been extremely happy with the boat. I haven't been able to make it offshore but would not hesitate on a good weather day. In all reality, any 27' boat needs good weather to head 30-60 miles offshore comfortably. I have fished on a 28' Alby Express several times over the last couple years and it is just as miserable as any other boat under 30' when the weather gets bad. Not picking on Albemarles because the boat is great, just trying to make the point that any small boat is going to take a beating in the Ocean. I know you are in VA and would prefer to find someone down there but my boat is in the water in Trappe MD and I would be happy to take you for a ride.

I am having a Haddaway 32 built (all fiberglass) with a 110 gallon tank and a single 330 cummings in it. I should get a great range and cruise I estimate at 22-24. I tcalculated based on the cummings fuel per hour chart that I should be able to go 400 miles or so before it needs a refuel. Outborads will burn considerably more fuel but you will get more speed. Really depends on what you want. We spent about 6 months just doing research before we decided.

WOW! Thats a pretty boat..... I believe that one just made my consideration list!!!!!!

Great bay boat, solid, well finished, fuel efficient, but I would sea trial in the conditions you plan to run in if its intended for ocean use.

I fished on a 32' Haddaway a couple weeks ago. Great boat to fish on. It was a couple years old and was much faster than I expected for a workboat/charter boat. It is being used as a charter boat so the finish was basic and it was very loud. I would imagine his newer boats are a quieter and finished better.

The 27cc is a great boat. We mainly fish offshore out of VB and OI. I can run out of VB on 75 gallons, and OI with 55 gallons. You can't put this boat in the class of the lower end production boats. This boat is hand crafted with many hours of labor. It is not popped out of a mold and sent down the assembly line. This boat is a no frills fishing machine. The craftsman ship is is outstanding. i have had the boat since March and have logged 250hrs offshore. We have run the heck out of the boat in every type of conditions. Everything has held up outstanding. We had enough confidence to enter it into the Va Beach Billfish Tourn, and beat out 45 of the big boys. I have been around boats along time as a captain and a mate. We were very picky when we started looking at boats. I will answer any questions. Daniel
