The 78 metre superyacht Venus emerged from the Feadship yard in Aalsmeer in 2012, showcasing immaculate design, extensive use of glass and an unforgettable profile in a pedigree collaboration between Philippe Starck, De Voogt Naval Architects and her visionary commissioner, who is speculated to be the design and technology icon Steve Jobs.
Immediately recognisable, opinion splitting and a genuine triumph of design, this superyacht has since been seen cruising the world and turning heads in every port. Holding expert design characteristics of the Apple empire, with specially created elements on board to enhance both use and performance.
With a layered profile and superstructure reflecting a clean, minimalist style, Venus holds a beam of 11.8 metres (38’9”) and a draught of 3 metres (9’11”) to create spacious internal volumes to take anywhere in the world. This highly secretive yacht is both part of the Top 100 and widely considered to be one of the finest yachts on the water.

See it here first: amazing photos of Steve Jobs' yacht Venus post-refit
The first photos of superyacht Venus after her refit in France have been shared with Boat International . In August this year, 78.2 metre Feadship superyacht Venus , built for the late Apple founder Steve Jobs, was spotted as she was heading in for a refit at Monaco Marine in La Ciotat, France and photos were taken of her hauled out on the hard at the refit yard.
The new photos show Venus emerging from her refit with a gleaming hull, and close-up pictures give an look at intriguing details of the yacht. The bridge on Venus , for instance, is packed with Apple computers, fitting for a yacht designed for Steve Jobs. The photo above shows that there are seven Mac screens sitting in superyacht Venus ' glass-enclosed bridge, a hint at the technology packed bridge that she is meant to have.
One of the best Feadship superyachts of all time , Venus has a wealth of interesting design features, from her highly innovative glass exterior design to the reported high-tech amenities. The yacht is extremely secret, however, with no interior images ever seen, which is why a photo shoot like this is all the more interesting, giving us an up-close view inside Venus ' bridge and a look at her tender garage, the latter seen in the photos below. A RIB tender is visible stowed in the portside tender garage.
Photos of Venus seen earlier this year showed off some serious scaffolding built up around the yacht, but it was not confirmed whether she was in for maintenance or a more extensive refit.
This isn’t the first time Steve Jobs’ yacht Venus has spent time at a refit yard; she was spotted at the Rybovich yard in Florida just a year after her launch in 2013.
With an immense use of glass and high-tech propulsion and helm set-up, the boundary-pushing superyacht Venus is an interesting challenge for a refit team as she is far from your average superyacht.
Engineering of the futuristic-looking Venus came from Feadship’s team at De Voogt Naval Architects , and a notable feature is her clever upper deck design that conceals communications and TV receivers.
Venus has turned heads since her launch at the Dutch yard in 2012. The yacht’s super-slick, minimalist design by Philippe Starck seemed a perfect fit for the Apple founder. Sadly, Steve Jobs passed away in 2011 before the yacht was launched and never got to enjoy his vessel.

Late Steve Job’s Super Yacht Venus
As inspiring and revolutionary Steve Jobs’ engineering concept is, equally brilliant is the late innovator’s mega yacht named Venus. Having commissioned the vessel even before the diagnosis of his terminal illness, Jobs intended the vessel to be his swan-song , after his terminal health problem was brought to light. According to the reports, the mega yacht was put into operation in 2012, a year after Jobs’ untimely demise.
The designing concept of the vessel was carried out mainly by reputed French marine architect Philippe Starck with several noteworthy inputs provided by Jobs himself. However for a brief period, the designing of the vessel was almost stalled by the American tycoon on account of the state of his health, though he later resumed it as a way of ensuring that his legacy and presence was carried forth even in his absence.
Feadship is known world-wide as a specialist in building one-of-a-kind super yachts.
With regard to Venus, it has provided the following technical uniqueness:
- A stream-lined aluminium hull that replicates the visual effect of the Apple gadgetries
- State-of-the-art technological inclusions like incorporation of iMac systems to allow for superior manoeuvring on water
- Ultra-modern accommodation amenities
Controversy about Payment
Almost immediately after the mega yacht was launched, there was a slight controversy surrounding the Venus. Principle designer Philippe Starck alleged that the legal inheritors of the yacht had failed to pay the balance of his dues, amounting to around US$ four million. Following the allegation, the yacht was seized at the Rotterdam harbor before the defaulted dues were paid and settled by the late entrepreneur’s legal team on behalf of the inheritors.
The mega yacht was named for the Greco-Roman Goddess of romance, Venus and it was with great love that Steve Jobs envisioned its completion. Although unfortunately he was unable to see his vision brought to life, yacht Venus holds one lasting memory of Jobs to his loved and cherished ones.

The 78m/255'11" motor yacht 'Venus' was built by Feadship in the Netherlands at their Aalsmeer shipyard. Her interior is styled by design house Philippe Starck and she was delivered to her owner in December 2012. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Philippe Starck.

Venus has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in 6 suites. She is also capable of carrying up to 22 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Venus is built with a aluminium hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. Powered by twin diesel MTU (16V 4000 M73) 16-cylinder 3,433hp engines, she comfortably cruises at 16 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 22 knots. She was built to Lloyds Register classification society rules.

UPDATE, JULY 4, 2024: A previous customer of Heesen Yachts has returned to the shipyard to buy the yacht Project Venus.Rupert Connor of Luxury Yachts, the owner's representative, says it was an easy decision. "There is no other shipyard in the world where you can sign for a yacht in June and they deliver in 10 months a high-quality yacht customized to our needs," he asserts.
The code-named yacht Project Venus is a spec build, in keeping with the shipyard's practice, saving buyers time yet still allowing plenty of customization requests. Thanks to the work of Luca Dini Design, also responsible for Heesen's Poject Serena, the 180-footer (55-meter) can accommodate 12.
