Oceana Coastal Kitchen - Catamaran Resort Hotel

Waterfront dining on mission bay.

Oceana Coastal Kitchen is the vibrant, signature restaurant inside the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa on San Diego’s Mission Bay. Opened in 2015, Oceana Coastal Kitchen’s cuisine embraces fresh California flavors served in a memorable waterfront setting.

A modern, marine-inspired design extends throughout the restaurant, including a quartz-topped cold bar embedded with mother-of-pearl and sea glass. An 800-gallon aquarium stocked with an array of tropical fish anchors the blue-accented dining room, while Oceana’s wraparound outdoor patio provides panoramic views of Mission Bay and towering palm trees.

Executive Paul Arias leads the kitchen and pays special attention to the use of high-quality, sustainable ingredients. Prior to joining Oceana, Arias worked alongside The Lodge at Torrey Pines’ Executive Chef Kelli Crosson.

Oceana welcomes guests from morning to night, with breakfast dishes ranging from delicious egg plates such as Eggs Shashuka to south of the border options like chilaquiles and breakfast burritos. As the afternoon arrives, so do lunch options like Oceana’s Drugstore Style Hamburger, the Seared Spicy Tuna Salad, and the Oceana House Sushi Roll.

Oceana’s elegant dinner service is highlighted by plates such as King Salmon, Braised Short Rib, Local White Seabass, and Harris Ranch Ribeye. Alternately, throughout the day visitors can opt for a seat at the cold bar where handcrafted sushi and other seafood favorites are made before guests’ eyes.

Zuma Catamaran

Dine and drink in style as you cruise around Hong Kong’s waters

Time Out says

Following the positive reception of Zuma’s catamaran party last year, the contemporary Japanese izakaya is heading for the waters again this summer. On September 7 and 8, Zuma will jet around Hong Kong’s scenic harbour on a luxury yacht before stopping at Repulse Bay. Guests on the catamaran will get to enjoy an elaborate tasting menu, which begins with delightful starters like French Gillardeau oysters dressed in yuzu ponzu, thinly sliced sea bass with yuzu and truffle oil, avocado with tenkasu and spicy lemon dressing. Then, move onto signature dishes such as Chilean sea bass with green chilli dressing, asparagus with wafu sauce and sesame, as well as sweet corn in shiso butter. Add to your merriment by sipping on free-flow Veuve Clicquot Champagne, Zuma’s signature cocktails, beers, and soft drinks. Reserve your spots for this unforgettable dining experience by calling Zuma at 3657 6388 or contacting them via email.

This restaurant looks and feels old. Our waitress was nice, but slow. The food was just okay. Pretty sure the salad was made ... with bagged lettuce, the cheese in the salad was from a bag...just not fresh. The salad dressing was not good. I ordered friedmushrooms, the portion was very generous, the breading was separated from the mushroom. When you bit into the mushroom, thewhole mushroom came out, as well as a stream of very hot water. Those mushrooms were so tough you literally could not bite intothem. The hamburger was overdone, the bun it was on was stale. The French fries were okay. Read more

The service was awesome. Our server was super friendly and very attentive. Too bad the food was not good. Ordered a $30 steak ... and got a plate of gristle and unchewable meat. The skin on the baked potato was burnt. My sister ordered the same cut, and itwas the same way. It was just a huge disappointment. Might be the hazards of dining later in the evening as we did not arriveuntil 7:45 and they close at 9pm. Read more

Gastronomy ecotourism: 5 organic farms to visit near Moscow

catamaran restaurant

  • Mark i Lev

catamaran restaurant

Where:  Tula Region, 80 miles south of Moscow

At the first and only “locavore” restaurant in Russia – also a farm – local chef Mikhail Lukashonok prepares dishes using only ingredients grown within 100 miles of the restaurant and he himself cultivates vegetables and herbs in the garden.

You certainly shouldn’t miss the stroganina (cold slices, sashimi-style) of smoked goose breast with parsnip, goose pate with sea buckthorn and the plum pudding with wine sauce, prepared according to Leo Tolstoy’s family recipe. Don’t forget to try the polbianaya kasha (spelt porridge) with rabbit.

You can stay next to the farm at the Velegozh Park dacha hotel. Aside from testing the farm’s artisanal products, you can also go horse-riding, drive a quadbike or try your hand at some of the farm crafts yourself – for example, baking original rustic bread.

catamaran restaurant

Where: Pereyaslavl-Zalessky, 90 miles northeast of Moscow

Ulitka is a small family agro estate on the bank of the picturesque Lake Pleshcheyevo. The farm specializes in growing snails ( escargots ) which you can observe before devouring this French delight.

The owners of the farm are willing to teach you how to cook escargot dishes and prepare homemade sausages, and can also offer you a taste of their freshly collected garden herbs. Culinary tables and workshops are frequently held here as well.

This place is best to visit in summer during “escargot season” when the snails are coming out of hibernation and are ready for consumption.

You can stay at the farm in separate houses for 3-4 people.

This eco-farm specializes in meat products and all sorts of sausages, so vegetarians won’t exactly feel at home here. But everyone else will be able to try the original marbled meat, real bratwurst and sausages produced on site.

Here you will be offered seasonal vegetables, mushrooms and berries, all cultivated in the farm’s own garden.

The owners are ready to teach you how to milk a goat or a cow, bake homemade bread, collect honey from a beehive, and even explain you how to make eco-bratwurst.

  • Kuznetsovo   estate

catamaran restaurant

Where: Klin District, 70 miles northwest of Moscow

This is a recreation center with two-storey cottages. Besides cows, on the estate there are also Arabian horses, donkeys and even camels.

Among the farm products which you can try here there are goat cheese, bread baked in a Russian stove, and samogon (homebrewed vodka) from oaken barrels, served at the table alongside goose, quail and rabbit.

After a hearty lunch you can ride a horse, donkey, or camel on the estate or take a quadbike for a drive on the obstacle course, and even do some catamaran rafting on the Nudol river. Not far from the estate there are very picturesque places for fishing.

5. Lukino   compound

About the Hermitage

The restaurant’s specialty was French cuisine, though adaptations were made of course to local customs. Waiters, for example, dressed in Moscow style — shirts with silk sashes tied at the waist. And as was also Moscow custom, the waiters were not paid. Instead, their tips were their wages. Tips were to be pooled together each day, then divvied up. If anyone held back on the tips, they were dismissed.

“But it would only be after five years of obscure labour that he received the insignia of his profession: a silk sash and a purse of black patent leather for his counters. He always kept the purse in his sash; as for the counters, he was given them at the cash-desk every morning, to the value of twenty-five roubles, and they served to pay for the dishes ordered at the ‘buffet’. Thereafter he would exchange the money he received from customers for further counters. Tips were put into a pool and at the end of the day were shared by the staff. They were paid no wages and even had to pay their employer up to 20 per cent of their earnings…” — Troyat, Henri. Daily life in Russia under the last Tsar. Stanford University Press, 1979. Page 55.

The restaurant was particularly popular for after-theatre or after-ballet suppers:

“Specially famous were the late supper meals which people who were celebrating would come to after the theatre… The rooms were filled with men in tails, dinner jackets or uniforms and ladies with décolleté dresses sparkling with diamonds. The orchestra resounded on the balcony while champagne flowed abundantly.” [3] Gilyarkovsky, Vladimir. Memoirs of Old Moscow. Translated by Brian Murphy and Michael Pursglove. 2016. Accessed January 2022 at http://gilyarovsky.com/. The signature dish of the restaurant was, reputedly, Salade Olivier, or as it came to be called in the West, Russian Salad .

Hermitage Restaurant Menu 1913 (in French)

Hermitage Restaurant Menu for 16 November 1913 / Public Domain  . Though there is a ladies’ menu and a men’s menu, the listings are identical. Some speculate that the difference may have been in the presentation.

After The Russian Revolution

The restaurant closed in 1917 during the Russian Revolution.

“In the A.R.A. Moscow. Women of noble families, shopkeepers wives, manufacturers wives and peasant women sewed side by side for weeks in the warm rooms of the Hermitage Restaurant, formerly Moscow’s gayest and fastest cafe, now central children’s feeding depot for the A.R.A., making little knitted things for the children…” [18] Hullenger, Edwin W. America Santa to Russia’s Children. Moberly Evening Democrat. Moberly, Missouri. 1 February 1922. Page 3. jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_647_1_18').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_647_1_18', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });

The building was used as is; relief workers toiled amongst the opulent splendour in which Russian aristocrats and business magnates had formerly partied:

“Moscow’s Most Noted Restaurant Now American Kitchen for Children: The crystal chandeliers are still hanging. The exquisite murals of 1885 still adorn the ceilings. The green and gold walls have not changed. Even the huge stoves in the kitchen are the same. But the guests are entirely different. To world travelers familiar with the gay Hermitage Restaurant of Moscow and the brilliant parties that were once held in that lively Russian city, the present diners at the Hermitage would present an incongruous picture. Instead of men and women in evening dress and satin, velvet and ermine entering the great doorways, each night after the opera or ballet, he would see a noon-day procession of small boys and girls, carrying pails, cups, coffee-pots, or bowls.” [19] Mexia Evening News. Mexia, Texas. 1 May 1922. Page 8. jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_647_1_19').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_647_1_19', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], });

From 1921 to 1928, the Russian revolutionary government Lenin experimented with limited capitalism under a policy called The New Economic Policy. During this time, sometime after 1922 when the American Relief efforts were finished with the building, someone did an attempted re-opening of the restaurant, but it was of course a shadow of its former self:

“The man who used to run the restaurant managed to mimic the restaurant’s past in a tawdry sort of way. The menu was showing again Escalopes à la Pompadour, Escalopes Marie Louise, Valois sauce, Olivier salad. However, the cutlets were tough, having been cooked in castor oil and the Olivier salad was made from leftovers. All the same this suited the NEPmen [20] NEPmen were people able to profit from the fleeing New Economic Policy jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_647_1_20').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_647_1_20', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top right', relative: true, offset: [10, 10], }); customers very well. In the porter’s lodge were hanging sealskin coats, beaver collars, sable coats. In the main hall were those same chandeliers, white tablecloths and gleaming crockery… On the wall facing the buffet they had still kept something written by M.P. Sadovsky. He used to take his lunch here, mocking the fast set and watching the various characters. Instead of being served by waiters in white shirts, the food was now served by menials in soiled jackets, and they would run when they were called, the trimmings on their trousers gleaming like lace.” [21] Gilyarkovsky, Vladimir. Literature & Lore

“The three famous chefs who left their mark in Russia were Carême , Urban Dubois, and Olivier . The last of these three opened a restaurant called the Hermitage in Moscow in the 1880s [Ed: the date here is incorrect], described by Lesley Chamberlain as ‘one of the great historic restaurants of the world’, and it was there that French-Russian cuisine was most fully elaborated.” — Davidson, Alan.
