The new Ax8 is the first launch and the result of an ambitious new project with which Astondoa is once again taking a risk and surprising with a new line of crossover yachts: Ax8, which extends the shipyard’s Flybridged family, whose models are acclaimed all over the world.

The Ax8, a high-end family cruiser with all the attributes to make social life at sea unsurpassed, breaks into the segment of the largest Flybridge yachts and exceeds the standards of spaciousness, comfort and elegance.

And the habitability of the new Ax8, with 6.22 metres of waterline beam, makes it unique in its segment.

The design of the Ax8 reflects the successful evolution of the Astondoa style, which, while preserving the brand’s essential lines and contemporary style, adopts the character of avant-garde sailing and enhances comfort with uncluttered, bright, functional and modern spaces.

The shipyard’s collaboration with the prestigious designer, Cristiano Gatto, is once again a success in the styling, which exudes elegance and character, but also freshness and modernity.

The combination of noble materials and natural tones enhance the boat’s luminosity, creating the perfect atmosphere for enjoying meals and dinners on board, family evenings or simply relaxing in the middle of the sea.

First 24m Astondoa Ax8 Sonrisa completes sea trials in Spain

The first hull in Astondoa 's 24.5-metre Ax8 series, Sonrisa , has recently completed her final round of sea trials in Santa Pola, Spain following delivery to her owner in September.

Described as a "high-end family cruiser", the Ax8 was designed in-house as an extension of the shipyard's Flybridge range.

Accommodation is across three en suite guest cabins, including a full beam master on the lower deck. There are further quarters for two crew. An alternate layout proposal would have four cabins that include a master cabin on the main deck.

Imagery reveals uncluttered, bright and contemporary living spaces styled by long-standing collaborator Cristiano Gatto . "I am proud to have had the opportunity to give this boat a recognisable identity and style language typical of Astandoa," explained Gatto. "With the shipyard, we put in a great team effort to create a modern and contemporary interior design typical of full custom boats, with tailor-made details and finishes of the highest quality. I believe this is an absolute novelty in the market for this segment of vessels."

Sonrisa offers two sundecks for sunbathing or lounging, found on the main deck and the flybridge. The upper deck is fully glazed and fitted with an ergonomic helm station and a second, more private, saloon. Her aft cockpit, alternatively, houses a dining and "chill out" area, with the beach club able to be seen through a protective glass panel that unifies the area. 

Sonrisa is powered by twin Volvo Penta IPS 1350 engines for an expected maximum speed of 19 knots.

Hull two is also currently under construction, with the shipyard sharing plans to build three units per year.

Overall the idea/design for the vessel may not be entirely new in its inspiration the Ax8 Crossover does present some nice features inside and externally that will be desirous of the customer. For example, the theme for the Astondoa Ax8 Crossover is "Created to be lived" and the sophistication of the interior on this near 81-foot vessel provides sumptuous living to enjoy both interior luxury and engrossing of exterior vistas. The exterior decks have decent space for relaxing featuring mostly loose furniture which allows for easy reconfiguration of the space according to need. The transom area is host to the yacht's tender and can also stow a PWC. Put these in the water and the space can be configured however.

Onboard, as many as eight guests can overnight with the provision of 4 staterooms on the lower deck. A full-beam VIP-grade suite is aft-most along with a three other cabins. All guest cabins have ensuite bathroom facilities as well as ample wardrobes and plenty of storage space. Two smaller cabins for crew are also provided. The decor in the cabins mirror that of the styling in the open public areas onboard.

Looking at those public areas like the salon we can see the continuation of the design theme leading an atmosphere of continual sophistication. While the side windows may not be near floor-to-ceiling there is still ample natural lighting coming into the salon. Complemented by low-set large-screen TV and low-profile side cabinetry, the views outwards are not compromised on this model. Cutaway bulwarks outside of the main salon also aid in lesser unobstructed views outwards.

Those who follow the Astondoa brand would perhaps see the model name's similarities to another Astondoa model, the AS8. The AS8 is an entirely different vessel and one that the builder calls its "Masterpiece" but after being around since 2020 a new slightly different model was required to evolve from the standard styling and orientation of the AS8. The Ax8 is 24.46-meters while the AS8 is 25-meter but despite being a touch shorter there as been noticeable room on beam where the newest model sports a 6.22-meter width over the 6-meter breadth of the AS8. Astondoa’s passion for creating and building yachts began in 1916, with the work of Jesús Astondoa Martínez. Astondoa is represented by our modern, elegant 143-foot mega yacht. Christened the “Samurai One”, this is a craft of advanced engineering design built in 2007 and refitted in 2011 with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure. Manufactured at the Vigo boatyard, this undoubtedly represents Astondoa’s entrance into the universe of large yachts.

Astondoa offers one of the most extensive ranges on the market and builds boats ranging from 40 to 200 feet in length. A variety of models and services to satisfy all requirements.

Astondoa’s central headquarters are in Santa Pola, a prime location overlooking the sea and only 10 minutes from Alicante International Airport. Covering an area of over 30,000m2, it has facilities for the construction of yachts up to 122 feet in length.

Astondoa also owns other facilities totalling 70,000m2, where highly specialised work is carried out by more than 500 people, who make up one of the company’s greatest assets: its human capital.

ASTONDOA TOP-DECK

Astondoa’s newest line, Top-Deck extending from 51 to 63 feet with a project to expand to a 120-foot unit, is proof of the brand’s pledge to modernity, luxury, design, comfort and functionality. The first model of the series, Astondoa 63 Top Deck, made its public debut at the 2012 Miami International Boat Show in the United States. It also gathered great reviews at the Cannes Boat Show in France during the month of September 2013.

The yacht’s elegant lines and innovative use of forms, materials and textures, give this model an attractive casual design and intelligent performance. The yacht, designed by Luiz de Basto, was created with fun and enjoyment in mind. It comes with Jet Ski, mini-submarine, water slides, Jacuzzi, outdoor terraces and comfortable lounges.

The 63 Top Deck is distinctive in many ways, and the company plans to include a flybridge in the deluxe model. On the other hand, a side exit next to the spacious storage space for all kind of special toys, make this design unique and very functional

Soft lines, careful decoration, and optimum use of space both inside and outside define this series of yachts. Furthermore, each yacht can be customized according to the client’s specifications through Astondoa’s Custom Line Design.
