This was the first Bavaria by J&J Designs, which in 1993 was tasked with giving the range a sharper look and better performance. J&J introduced bulbed keels and a more efficient rudder design and a sleeker, lower hull profile. The Bavaria 44 is a big yacht in all respects, with six berths in three cabins including a suite forward and a second heads aft. The saloon is not ideally arranged for offshore use but works well in harbour. A charter-orientated Holiday version was also offered, but it tends to fetch lower prices today.

The Bavaria 44 is a 45.7ft fractional sloop designed by J&J Design and built in fiberglass by Bavaria Yachts (GER) between 2002 and 2004.

Accommodations

Entering the companionway the rich mahogany interior and spacious salon immediately stand out. The gradual sloping companion way stairs make for a comfortable decent. The two mirror image double cabins are located aft and have deep shelving on the hull sides and a split locker with hanging spaces. Opening hatches mounted in the cockpit provides great ventilation.  

Moving forward there is a wet head to port, complete with a manual Jabasco head, vanity and shower. Forward of the head is the Saloon. There is a large dinette table surrounded by a U shaped settee and a bench settee midships. There is plenty stowage along the hull and in the settees. The galley is arranged in liner fashion down the port hull. The work surface extends the full length of the galley with a built in cover for the stove when not in use. 

The master cabin forward has an ensuite head that boasts an electric flush marine toilet along with an opening porthole. There is a ton of stowage, with mahogany cupboards mounted each side of the hull and a split hanging locker to port.  

Saloon and Galley

Akela is tastefully finished with solid mahogany and makes full use of the yachts generous beam. She has a liner galley with ample storage along the port hull. The centerline settee provides galley storage as well as a comfortable seat at the dining table. The U shaped settee is large and comfortable with newer faux leather upholstery.

Sandwich laminate technology such as that used in the aircraft industry and on ice-breaking boats is used in the above-water hull and in the deck. The sandwich layer is of water-repellent closed-cell foam to increase the dent-resistance of the shell. Its low heat conductivity prevents condensation and makes the interior climate more pleasant. Kevlar fabric, the material of which bullet-proof jackets are made, is worked into the forebody below the waterline to protect against collision. The doubled laminate thickness of the keel flange triples the safety factor in case of impact. The floor timber is reinforced by stiff S-glass layers. The laminate is watertight and prevents osmosis. As a yachtsman, he decided to re-equip the factory and launch the production of sailing cruise yachts at low prices. He liked the idea of making yachts more affordable. The motor range includes several 33–55-foot yacht families. These are high-speed gliding cruisers made of fiberglass composite with and without flybridge, as well as open high-speed yachts of a relatively low price category.
