Nigerian-Lebanese telecom billionaire Bassim Haidar is listing his 208-foot yacht, “Bash,” for sale, according to a report by Architectural Digest.
The luxury vessel, which was originally named “Jonikal,” then “Sokar,” was first owned by Egyptian billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayed, the former owner of Harrods and the father of Princess Diana’s lover Dodi Al-Fayed. After the couple’s tragic death, Mohamed Al-Fayed tried to sell the yacht on several occasions before it was finally purchased in 2014. It was most recently bought by Haidar in June 2021. He is selling it just over a year later as he reportedly looks to purchase a larger vessel.
“Bash,” as the yacht is presently named, was designed by navel architect Vincenzo Ruggiero in the 1980s and constructed by Codecasa, a superyacht building firm, before it was officially launched in 1990. The luxury vessel can accomodate up to 18 people across nine staterooms and has rooms for 26 crew members. The yacht includes a swim platform, jacuzzi, sun deck, main saloon, a formal dining room, a bar, and office space. Full of dark wood paneling and coffered ceilings, the interiors are reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts style of the early 1900s.
The yacht’s Wartsila engines give it a top speed of 20 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots. Although a specific price has not yet been posted, its previous listing price was $10 million.
Haidar, 51, is the founder of Channel VAS Group, which is a fintech provider of mobile financial services, airtime credit and airtime advance services, handset loans, and big data analytics.

64m Codecasa motor yacht Bash sold
The 63.8-metre Codecasa motor yacht Bash has been sold by John Wood of Seawood Yachts who represented both the buyer and the seller.
The steel and aluminium superyacht was commissioned by Mohamed Al-Fayed, the former owner of Harrods, and delivered in 1990 as Jonikal. The yacht made headline news when Fayed invited Princess Diana, Prince Harry and Prince William to sail around the south of France in the summer following her separation from Prince Charles. She was famously photographed sitting on the passerelle.
Under new ownership, and a new name, her interior was redesigned by H2 Yacht Design for a refit that took place between 1997 and 1998, during which her hull was also extended. Further work was carried out in 2019, including machinery upgrades, a repaint and the replacement of teak decks. Now known as Bash , she is offered for sale following a further 18-month, nine-million-euro interior refit completed in April 2023.
Her latest interior, featuring high-gloss mahogany and parquet flooring, is described by the broker as "state of the art, maintaining her classic lines that befit a yacht which is steeped in history". The vessel accommodates 12 guests in six cabins, including a much larger master suite on the main deck and a VIP guest double on the bridge deck. The four lower-deck guest cabins comprise two doubles and two twins with Pullman berths.
On the exterior, Bash's large sundeck is home to a raised Jacuzzi, sunpads and lounging spaces forward, plus an al fresco dining table, barbecue and wet bar. The aft part of this deck is described by the broker as having the potential, subject to certification, of being used as a touch-and-go helipad for an Augusta 109 or similar. The space is currently used to stow a guest tender and jet skis.
The 937GT yacht is powered by twin 2,814hp Wartsila diesel engines giving her a top speed of 20 knots, a cruising speed of 15 knots and a transatlantic range of 6,900 nautical miles at 11 knots. She is ABS classified and also benefits from zero speed stabilisers.
Bash was asking €15,500,000.

Positive Customer Review: "One of the most memorable parts for me was the launch. I went with my wife, and Benetti had a Roman Catholic priest bless the yacht. It was very beautiful with all the Italian music and then the British national anthem, and it was all very unexpected. I thought I was just going to be putting the boat in the water, but in fact it turned into a very emotional day!" - Owner of a Benetti called motor yacht 11:11

How did Dodi and Diana get together?
Princess Diana and Dodi reportedly first crossed paths in 1986. According to The Independent, they met at a polo match when Dodi’s team played against Diana’s then-husband King Charles at Windsor Great Park. This interaction was later recreated on season 5 of The Crown, though some details were changed: On The Crown, Dodi’s father, Mohamed, sponsors the polo match in 1990 (not 1986) in an attempt to sit next to Queen Elizabeth. However, he ends up seated next to Diana instead, who smiles at Dodi — though the two do not speak in the episode.
The same year, both Diana and Dodi experienced strife in their individual relationships. Charles and Diana each began extramarital affairs in 1986: Charles confirmed in his authorized biography, The Prince of Wales, that he began his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, while ex-army Major James Hewitt also claimed to have started a five-year affair with Princess Diana around the same time. Dodi, meanwhile, wed model Suzanne Gregard in 1986 —but divorced eight months later.
In April 1992, Princess Diana attended the London premiere of Hook — which was executive produced by Dodi — with her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. Jim Hart, a screenwriter for Hook, later told Vanity Fair that Dodi had noticed Princess Diana at the movie premiere.

Mark Zuckerberg’s new yacht, Launchpad, is enjoying its summer debut. The megayacht recently stopped in Mallorca and has since ventured further into the Mediterranean. It looks like Zuckerberg may dethrone Jeff Bezos as king of this year’s superyacht season.
While the Amazon founder made waves last year with the debut of his megayacht Koru, Zuckerberg is the name on the yacht world’s lips this season.
By May, the transaction seemed all but confirmed when both the yacht and Zuckerberg made their way to Panama to celebrate his 40th birthday with a fete that included a few spins on his infamous hydrofoil.
Now that summer is here, Zuckerberg has debuted Launchpad —and her support superyacht Wingman — on the biggest stage in the yachting world: the Mediterranean.

What yacht does Bill Gates own?
In 2021, Gates took delivery of what would become his starter yacht, Wayfinder. Measuring 224 feet (68.2 meters) in length and built at the cost of “just” $25 million by Astilleros Armon, Wayfinder is a Shadowcat, which means it’s a catamaran designed as a shadow vessel. Until just now, it was unclear exactly what Wayfinder was shadowing since no one seemed to be aware of the existence of a mothership.
That mothership, according to eSysman Superyachts who cites sources inside Feadship, is Project 821, currently under construction at the shipyard. Project 821 is a gigantic vessel with a 2024 delivery date, with a total length on water of 390 feet (119 meters) and an interior volume of over 7,000 GT. Until now, Project 821 has been closely kept under wraps.
Technically, it’s still being kept under wraps, but this seemed to have slipped through the cracks: Gates is selling it.

The Best Room At ... the Brazilian Court Hotel in Palm Beach
The White Lotus of Florida is about to mark its grand centennial, and its Hepburn Lanai Suite may be the best spot to celebrate in style.
Nearly a hundred ago, a hotel opened in Palm Beach designed by an Italian architect who would come to define the most glamorous period of New York City luxury apartments buildings. His name was Rosario Candela , and the hotel is the Brazilian Court , which Candela conceived to revolve around the signature courtyards evoked by its name. This beacon of Old World glamour in a tony enclave where that quality is not in short supply will soon mark its centennial, a milestone that has seen it play host to movie stars from Hollywood's Golden Age to the modern era. Here, Bobby Schlesinger, whose family has owned the property since 2001 and who earlier this year completed a full-scale renovation of the historic hotel, answers the most pressing questions about the Brazilian Court, including the one amenity that makes it The White Lotus of Florida.
Tell me about the signature suite at Brazilian Court. What makes it unique?
While nearly half of our room inventory is one, two, and three-bedroom suites, our most prestigious suite on the property is Unit 233, The Hepburn Lanai Suite. This 1,925-square-foot second floor two bedroom, three-bath suite overlooks the hotel pool and has vaulted ceilings in each room, a full-sized kitchen and dining room, and private terraces off the living room and each bedroom overlooking the pool. The Hepburn Suite lives more like a private residence than it does a hotel room, which is why many of our regular guests rent this room for months at a time. But if you miss out on The Hepburn, we still have three other magnificent pool-front Lanai Suites that are just as impressive.
What is the starting rate for the suite, and what kind of guest packages can you build around it?
The starting rate for The Hepburn suite is $5,500 per night. For those guests renting the Hepburn Suite, the ultimate luxury experience is what they are after, so many times they pair their stay with a full or half-day private excursion aboard the hotel’s 44-foot yacht docked just a block from the hotel, complete with catered lunch from Café Boulud .
Tell me a little bit about the property’s history and some of its famous guests over the years.
The hotel was opened on New Year's Day, 1926, so we are quickly approaching our 100th anniversary of serving guests of Palm Beach. A landmark property, the hotel was designed by famed architects Maurice Fatio and Rosario Candela, around two sprawling landscaped courtyards that give the hotel its name. Over those hundred years, we have been honored to welcome numerous noteworthy guests, including icons Gary Cooper, Greta Garbo, Marjorie Merriweather Post, and many more.
What is one feature of the hotel that you think first-time visitors will find surprising?
The Brazilian Court is the only hotel in Florida that owns its private luxury yacht and retains a full-time crew to operate it. The 44-foot Italian Solaris motor yacht is an incredible amenity that is complimentary to hotel guests. We offer three excursions daily, and guests can schedule their voyage through the concierge or via an in-room iPad.
What are some of the hotel's oldest and newest amenities?
Our most iconic amenity is our oldest—our famed courtyards. The sheer number of private nooks and landscaped resting spots reserved for our guests set The Brazilian Court experience apart from any other property in Palm Beach. Further, we are incredibly proud of our twenty-year partnership with world-renowned Chef Daniel Boulud on his Café Boulud outpost within the hotel. Our newest amenities include our Casa retail boutique, with each piece hand-selected by hotel owner Courtney Schlesinger, and our poolside cocktail lounge, Lily’s.
Tell me about the dining experiences available at the property and the wellness programming.
There is no Palm Beach dining experience quite like Café Boulud. From the incomparable setting with the most outdoor dining of any restaurant in Palm Beach to cuisine prepared by the visionary chef himself, Daniel Boulud, it is a must-try for anyone visiting Palm Beach. If you require pampering, The Brazilian Court Salon is the go-to for discerning local Palm Beachers and visitors who want the best hair, nails and facials. The salon is well-loved by the community because of its talented creatives, and its tucked-away private location allows clients to feel like they're getting away from it all. Our famed poolside spa offered a residency of New York plastic surgeon Dr. Lara Devgan last season, during which she provided nonsurgical facial optimizations with "mimosas and conversation" the next day. We are planning a similar program for this season with a few extra surprises.
Are there any other special experiences guests should ask her for when they arrive?
Guests are offered our curated Brazilian Court x Linus Bikes interactive map to discover Palm Beach by cycling through the mansion-lined streets. We have an 8-seat golf cart that whisks guests away to the beach, where our team will set up your beach loungers, umbrellas, towels, and all your necessary beach supplies for a soak in the Atlantic. Our newest and sought-after ultra-luxe experience for guests is a complimentary two-hour day cruise on the Intracoastal aboard BC One, the hotel's Solaris power yacht, with a glass of Rosé and delectable snacks from Café Boulud.
What sights, shops, and restaurants near the property should visitors check out this year?
The dining scene in Palm Beach is robust, but there is great anticipation for Thomas Keller’s new restaurant, which will arrive soon. If you want to venture off the island, I always recommend Aoli, which is just a short drive away in West Palm Beach. They have one of the best casual lunches around and an always-changing menu. For first-timers to the area, I always recommend checking out the Flager Museum to get some perspective on the history of Palm Beach. Still, an afternoon at the National Polo Center in Wellington can be a great way to take in some of the world’s best at the sport if you are a regular. As for shopping, the newly designed Gucci store on Worth Avenue is incredible. Still, the collection we created at our on-property boutique, Casa by BC, is unmatched by the most distinguished shoppers.
What’s in store for the rest of 2024 and 2025?
Starting this season, we look forward to welcoming a host of retail pop-ups within our Casa by BC Boutique, presenting exciting live entertainment programs of music and comedy featuring some of today's biggest stars. And closing out 2025 with a New Year's Eve bash unlike any other to celebrate our 100th anniversary.
