Born into an aristocratic air of racy intrigue, SUMURUN’s charms have wooed a select band of suitors since her launch at Fairlie. A legend in many lifetimes, SUMURUN is one of the most exquisite of William Fife’s large ‘fast cruisers’. For almost 110 years this 94ft ketch, formerly yawl, has been in commission and loved, most recently by the current owner who treated SUMURUN to a major 2017-2019 refit at Chantier du Guip. Return to classic racing late in 2019 was triumphant, with victory at Saint-Tropez. Rigged as a bermudan ketch since 1935, this handy configuration was retained but brought subtly up to date by Juan Kouyoumdjian. Under it, SUMURUN is perhaps consistently faster than ever, yet retains the ability to cross oceans comfortably; something she has quite a reputation for. “Form is temporary; class is permanent.”

We are dedicated to preserving the spirit and historical record of vintage & classic sailing vessels. As educators it is important to extend our reach to the communities, organizations and schools that would otherwise be unable to access our message because of geographical, and sociological limitations. The application of STEM through our initiatives 10 Class, Bluestar, Greenstar, and Sailing for Water is our educational mission. Whether following the progress of expeditions to the Pacific to study plastic pollution, or to the Arctic to study the effects of the loss of salinity from our oceans. It is our pledge “To empower people of all ages to make smart decisions today that will affect the quality of life for future generations to come.”

As preservationist and historians each classic vessel has a unique story to tell. The Classic Yacht Register of Heritage, on the CSO website, has become a go-to reference for historians, former owners, their families, and the general public. An important part of CSO’s mission is to promote the rich history and intriguing human interest stories associated with these classics, preserving and adding to their cultural significance for future generations to come.

The topics and stories that are focused on our publication are made possible through the hard work and achievements of our alliance, and through the associated supporting cast of the collective initiatives. We look forward to expanding the reach of our cultures and remain dedicated to our collective efforts.

The stories, and racing histories of these magnificent craft are important to the overall valuation of each yachts role in history. We encourage our readers to contribute with historical contributions (comments) when possible.

Team Ten Class – Our collective mission is to bring awareness to the overuse of plastics that are effecting the overall health of our oceans, the blue heart of our planet. To bring a call to action to the communities we serve, through Science, Technology, Education and Math; to create a venue for recognizing the efforts in “Keeping the Legends Alive,” through periodical “Lifetime Achievement Awards.” Our race team is historical in design, spartan in concept, and void of modern day conveniences…pure vintage racing machines.

Advisory Board – The purpose of our Advisory Board is to gain outside expert and independent advise on the role and message that ClassicSailboats.Org will pursue for the communities we serve, and for stewardship for the environmental and philanthropic causes that are collectively important to us.

Sustainability and the Capacity to Endure – To continue to exist in the same state or condition has been a real challenge for all custodians and stewards of Vintage, Classic and Spirit of Tradition yachts and that of our Team boats. Preserving the ecosystems and environments that we sail in are equally as important, in our quest for sustainability. In our organizational capacity we will provide a means in achieving low environmental impact by exemplifying the importance of using renewable and biodegradable resources when possible.

Our organisation, the SAILMED.org, activates itself in the Aegean Sea and the broader Mediterranean region to re-establish the traditional sea-transport via sailboats, as a way to promote an alternative, environmental friendly, sustainable and responsible sea commerce in our beautiful region. I am researching sailboats mentioned and photographed in an old scrapbook from 1938-39 made by my father when he worked at the Essex Boat Works in Connecticut. I have found the current whereabouts of two schooners, one of which was involved in the 1938 hurricane. The sailboat I’ve been unable to trace is the Störtebeker, a 53 foot ketch owned at that time by a Mr. and Mrs. Kenyon. If there is someone here who knows of her whereabouts, I would appreciate hearing from you. I’d like to be able to send the current owners scans of the photos I have (if interested). Thank you.

Researching my Great Grandfather, a master mariner who was the Captain of both yacht Corals that are registered in the Lloyds register of 1909-1910 page 179. F.T. Mew is the owner of both yachts with one being Coral of Cowes, official number: 124490 a Yawl. I found your website and the article on the Coral of Cowes very interesting and informative but the information other than the original owner differs from mine.

Over the past 40 years, Peter Breen Antique & Classic Boat Co. Ltd has become well known across North America for award-winning Total Restorations and Forensic Re-constructions. The team has saved more Muskoka built boats from impending demise than any other restorer in Canada. Reputation has been their 

most important asset, and they continually strive to meet the mark of "World Class Wooden Boats".

Custom New Builds

As originals boats have become more scarce, the natural progression was the creation of new vessels fashioned after the originals. This allows for more customization and enables the builder to blend shapes and styles from both past and present to create pieces of art that reflect each customers idea of a perfect boat. No two are ever the same, and the 20th Build is under way.

Repair, Re-finishing & Rigging

From plank replacement to deck repair, to hardware fabrication and upholstery replacement, the team has completed dozens of repairs and refurbishments  over the years. In addition, high gloss varnish services with badger hair brushes are routinely performed. Breen Boats also regularly perform engine installations, from modern high out-put power plants to aircraft engines from the First World War.

Peter Breen Antique and Classic Boat Company Ltd. specializes in the restoration of Muskoka built boats and reproduction of such craft. Over the past 45 years, we have completed 46 total restorations, 19 new builds, & countless repairs and refinishings. From Launches to Raceboats, Ditchburns to Baby Gars, multi-year projects to routine varnish and engine installations, we offer wide ranging services to the wooden boat community.
