The Davis Island Yacht Club is a member-owned, private yacht club located at the southern end of Davis Islands in Tampa, Florida. The club's grounds create a natural harbor and breakwater for the docks and a mooring area marked on charts as a seaplane basin. The club hosts a full schedule of sailing races, maintains an active cruising fleet, and has a robust youth sailing program, the Davis Island Youth Sailing Foundation. It maintains ongoing relationships with state and regional sailing organizations, is a founding member of the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs, and is a member of the Yachting Club of America. The Club provides limited support for members representing the club in regional, national, and international sailing races. Members participate heavily in local and regional events sponsored by other organizations. DIYC also has an active women's sailing group known as the Dinghy Dames. The club's facilities include wet and dry slips for members' boats, a pavilion for small sailing craft such as prams, dinghies, and one-design boats, a clubhouse, and a swimming pool. The dining room and bar serve members, their guests, and participants in the numerous regattas and educational programs hosted by the Club. DIYC’s social functions connect festivities to sailing activities. DIYC’s long-standing Thursday Night Races are open to anyone interested in sailing and provide a great opportunity for novices or newcomers to make themselves better known to the membership. Visiting The ClubWe at the Davis Island Yacht Club are excited to welcome you to our Club. If you are from an FCYC club, no letter of recommendation is needed. Just your membership card and a photo ID. Members of Clubs assocaiated with the Register of American Yacht Clubs will need to have a letter of introduction sent to [email protected] before arriving at DIYC. We are glad to extend our guest privileges to you, per our reciprocal agreement. When you arrive, please make your way to the bar to check in. You'll need to show your Yacht Club Membership card (either digital or physical) along with a photo ID. If your membership card has your photo, no other ID will be necessary. Seating at the bar or restaurant is on a first-come, first-served basis, and reservations are not required except on Friday nights and special occasion events. All purchases in the dining room, bar, or ships store must be paid in full with a credit card. We won't charge your Club's membership account. FCYC members have the option to charge back to their home club. Please take note of our current Dining hours, which can be viewed here . Please note that the DIYC (Davis Island Yacht Club) does not have a specific dress code, except for the rule that wet bathing suits are not allowed inside the clubhouse at any time. Additionally, shirts and shoes are required inside the clubhouse. Pets are not allowed inside the clubhouse, porches, or the pool area unless they are a certified service animal. However, your furry friend is welcome in the Regatta Bar area, the Point, your boat, and slip areas. Just keep them on a leash, clean up after them, and don't let them climb on chairs or tables. If you have any questions about our policies or Club rules, feel free to give us a call at the office. If you're coming by boat, get approval from our Dockmaster before arriving at our Guest Docks. And if you're driving, keep in mind that we've got about 90 boats on trailers year-round, so parking can be a bit tricky. To make things easier, please park in the grassy area outside of the members-only parking spaces. And remember, all parking on the blacktop is reserved for members, except for handicapped spaces. If you need to get in touch with Dock Master please send an email to [email protected] . For more information and our calendar of events, please visit our online calendar . The J/70 Speedster (22.75 feet) is J/Boats’ first fully ramp-launchable, keelboat – designed to fulfill a growing need for an easy-to-own, high performance one-design that is exciting to sail, stable enough for the entire family, easy to tow behind the family vehicle, to rig in the parking lot, ramp launch and sail. Plus, J/70 is built to last. In less than 48 months the J/70 worldwide fleet is over 1,300 boats strong, attracting some of the most talented sailors in the world and helping to spark growth of numerous sailing leagues across Europe. J/70 is replacing tired old keelboat fleets at a number of sailing clubs and helping to reinvigorate membership by attracting younger sailors into the ranks. There are fleet discussions underway now around the world both for new leagues and for established clubs. The Sailing World Overall Boat of the Year J/70 has taken the world by storm and future growth for this fantastic boat looks very bright, indeed! These days it is safe to say there is some J/70 event happening on almost any given weekend somewhere around the world! Key J/70 Features. - Large comfortable cockpit with open transom.
- Deck-stepped lightweight carbon mast for easy rigging & stepping.
- Inexpensive three sail inventory with masthead A-Sail.
- Vertical lifting keel.
- Small cabin for storage and personal privacy.
- Easy to trailer to regattas, ramp launch and store at home for winter.
- Only 1,750 lbs & low road height so most 6 cyl vehicles can easily tow.
- Fits inside most standard garage doors!
More comfortable to sail on deck. The 11′ long cockpit and moderate height boom in the J/70 allow easy crew movement across the cockpit while tacking and jibing. For sitting and hiking comfort, mid-height padded backrests/lifelines run cockpit length, large cockpit floor mounted toe-rails for secure foot bracing and comfortable seat height and ergonomics makes J/70 one of the most comfortable small keelboats to helm. No need for hiking straps to keep you in the boat. Plus there are strict class limits on how to hike to make the boat less physical to sail. Easy for the entire family to join in! With mandatory on-board jib/spinnaker sheet winches, a feather light responsive helm and confidence building stability, you can enjoy sailing with friends and family more often. Kids or seniors will feel as comfortable and in control steering or trimming sails, whether for daysailing or evening sunset races, the J/70 will be both exciting and forgiving. When you are ready to take it to the next competitive level, the competition at national events won’t disappoint. On-board privacy, protection, storage & auxiliary power The small cabin below is a bonus in any small keelboat, and the J/70 cabin is just large enough to provide weather & sun protection, a place to nap and/or for personal privacy… essential to keeping the whole crew happy if spending a day on the water. The J/70 one-design class rules provide for a 2.5 hp outboard engine (gas or electric). This means one can sail further away from homeport without worrying about paddling home or hailing for a tow. Race Committees can start races on time and finish them later in the day without having to arrange tow boats. |
