Many maintenance procedures can be done by a mechanically inclined owner with proper tools. Review your owner’s manual maintenance chart or online maintenance schedules for information on maintenance that you can do. Remember, however, that some procedures should be done by your authorized Yamaha dealership, such as checking valve clearance and inspecting a timing belt. Also remember that only your Yamaha dealer can perform service work covered under your Yamaha limited warranty. If you do perform your own maintenance, please remember to help protect the environment by properly disposing used fluids and maintenance parts according to local regulations.

Never start your engine out of water unless you are using an external lower-unit flushing adapter, commonly known as “ear muffs” designed for your type of outboard motor (not the integral Freshwater Flush Adapter found on some engines) to provide cooling water from a garden hose. Otherwise, you could damage or seize the engine. Operate at no more than an advanced idle with good water pressure. Never put the engine in gear; only use the warm-up lever to advance the throttle. Never leave an engine running on a flush attachment unattended.

Yes, but make sure the oil you choose is FC-W ®  rated for marine use.  Yamalube 4M FC-W ®  Full Synthetic SAE 5W-30 Marine Motor Oil . It’s a Group IV fully synthetic oil that provides the best outboard lubrication and performance. Additionally it is FC-W ®  rated by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA ® ). Everything We Know About Yamaha's Hydrogen Outboard Engine

Ben Speciale, President of Yamaha's U.S. Marine Business Unit, confirmed Yamaha's commitment to attaining carbon neutrality of its operations by 2035 and its products by 2050. Speciale went on to say, "We believe hydrogen is a viable method of achieving these goals," at the unveiling of the Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A. hydrogen-powered outboard engine in Miami, Florida, on February 14, 2024. With that announcement, Yamaha joins other companies working on hydrogen-powered vehicles .

Yamaha's hydrogen-powered outboard engine, dubbed the H2, is part of a prototype project announced in December of 2023 that includes fuel system engineering by Roush CleanTech, part of the same organization as Roush Racing, and a modified 26-foot boat built by Regulator Marine. Joan Maxwell, President of Regulator Marine, said the project is important for testing hydrogen as an outboard engine fuel source, explaining, "If we don't look for a new source, we won't find a new source."

The H2's hydrogen fuel system requires large hydrogen storage tanks, one of the cons associated with hydrogen-powered vehicles , which the boat's hull must accommodate. Maxwell admits the Hydrogen tanks are larger than she envisioned at first, occupying valuable space in the prototype hull that typically houses fish boxes and marine head facilities.

Roush's Matt Van Benschoten, Vice President of Advance Engineering, said, "Yamaha is trying to determine if hydrogen can successfully be used in this market." In support of the prototype, scheduled to begin testing during the summer of 2024, Roush is providing the design and integration of the hydrogen fuel system, as well as safety analysis.

Yamaha's H2 outboard engine

Yamaha's H2 hydrogen-powered outboard engine uses hydrogen instead of gasoline in its combustion chambers. While this technology is a departure from the systems found in hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles (HFCV) driving the streets of California, it's more like the internal combustion engine we're accustomed to rather than battery electric vehicle (BEV) power.

The H2 hydrogen outboard is a derivative of Yamaha's XTO Offshore outboard engines. The XTO Offshore outboard's 5.6-liter V8 gasoline-engine produces up to 450 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful Yamaha boat motors ever made . Hydrogen's low volumetric energy density means the H2 will produce slightly less horsepower than the XTO Offshore using the same 5.6-liter displacement.

Examples from Cummins, a reputable diesel engine innovator, demonstrate the loss of power by comparing horsepower ratings of two 6.7-liter internal combustion engines, one gasoline powered and the other using hydrogen. The gasoline-powered Cummins 6.7-liter is rated at up to 325 horsepower compared to the hydrogen version with its 290-horsepower rating.

If the 10-percent power loss of the Cummins example is seen in the H2 outboard, it could still produce in excess of 400 horsepower. That output would put it in the ranks as one of the most powerful outboard boat engines available and with zero carbon emissions.

Yamaha Motor president slashed with knife by daughter

Yoshihiro Hidaka, president of Japanese motorcycle maker Yamaha Motor, was allegedly slashed with a knife by his daughter at their home in the city of Iwata, Shizuoka Prefecture, around 3 a.m. Monday, suffering a minor injury.

Hana allegedly attempted to kill her 61-year-old father by cutting him on the left arm with a kitchen knife.

According to the department, police officers rushed to the house after receiving an emergency call from Hana, who said she was beaten by her father. The suspect made an emergency call also around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, and police officers visited the house after that.

Yamaha Motor said it would not comment on the case as it is a private matter and the investigation is ongoing.

Yamaha Motorcycle Warranty Policy

In this warranty, the term 'MOTORCYCLE' shall refer to a new motorcycle manufactured by YAMAHA MOTOR COMPANY, LTD. ('MANUFACTURER') under the trade name of Yamaha, distributed by YAMAHA MOTOR CANADA LTD. ('YAMAHA'), sold at retail by an authorized Yamaha dealer ('DEALER'). The term 'CUSTOMER' shall refer to the owner or lessee of record of the MOTORCYCLE registered with YAMAHA and to any subsequent owner, and the term 'DELIVERY' shall refer to the date of delivery of the MOTORCYCLE from the DEALER to the CUSTOMER.

Section A - Warranty Subject to Section D, YAMAHA offers the following warranty coverage to the CUSTOMER:

• Periods of warranty:
• Pleasure Use (including government use)
• Basic Period of Warranty

The period of warranty shall be ninety days commencing on DELIVERY on all models designated PW, TT and on YZ65 and YZ85 models; The period of warranty shall be one year commencing on DELIVERY on all other models.

• Commercial Use
• During these periods of warranty:
• Any part defective by reason of the MANUFACTURER's faulty workmanship or material will be replaced or repaired free of charge.
• Any repairs or adjustments made necessary by reason of the MANUFACTURER's faulty workmanship or material will be performed free of charge.

The MANUFACTURER reserves the right to change the design of any model without obligation to modify any model previously manufactured.

Section B - Subsequent Owner The warranty set forth for in Section A may be transferred to any subsequent owner provided that the period of warranty has not expired and that the CUSTOMER has complied with all terms and conditions of this warranty. The subsequent owner has the responsibility for ensuring that a change of registration is sent to YAMAHA at the time of such transfer of ownership.

This transfer MUST be done by contacting the DEALER who will forward the following information to YAMAHA:

• the complete model and serial number as shown on the original warranty document;
• the name of the previous owner;
• the original delivery date of the MOTORCYCLE;
• the complete name and address of the subsequent owner;
• the indication that the subsequent owner has received and read the Owner's Manual and this warranty policy.

Section C - Obtaining Repairs Under Warranty To obtain repairs under warranty, the CUSTOMER must:

• Ensure that the MOTORCYCLE is properly operated, maintained and stored as specified in the Owner's Manual.
• Give notice to a DEALER of any and all apparent defects immediately upon discovery, and make the entire MOTORCYCLE available at that time for inspection and repair at the DEALER'S place of business.
• Provide proof of warranty coverage to such DEALER (CUSTOMER'S copy of the New Vehicle Information Statement: N.V.I.S.).
• Authorize the DEALER to tear down the MOTORCYCLE for diagnostic evaluation should it be required.

Section D - Exclusions

• This warranty does not apply unless:
• The MOTORCYCLE has been fully assembled and set to the MANUFACTURER's operating specifications by a DEALER prior to DELIVERY to the CUSTOMER;
• The CUSTOMER has followed the break-in and storage instructions contained in the Owner's Manual and all other instructions shown in the Owner's Manual;
• The CUSTOMER can provide record of maintenance having been performed as recommended in the Owner's Manual;
• Requests for repairs under warranty have been made as prescribed in Section C.
• This warranty does not cover the repair of damage resulting from abuse or neglect of the MOTORCYCLE. Examples of abuse and neglect include, but are not limited to:
• racing, competition, MOTORCYCLE models designated WR or YZ, with the exception of WR25R, WR25X, YZ65 and YZ85 models, modification of original parts or abnormal strain;
• use of lubricants, oils, fuel, fuel additives and mixtures other than those recommended in the Owner's Manual, improperly installed accessories or use of parts or accessories that are not equivalent in design and quality to genuine Yamaha parts;
• damage as a result of accidents, collisions, contact with foreign materials, impact, submersion or use of the MOTORCYCLE after discovery of a defect;
• appearance-related damages of body parts. Examples of such damages include but are not limited to: scratches, dents, fading, flaking, peeling.
• This warranty does not extend to:
• MOTORCYCLES which have modified in any way from the standard specifications as shown in the Owner's Manual, including any MOTORCYCLE whose odometer has been altered;
• normal wear and tear, corrosion and routine maintenance, such as the recommended service inspections;
• pre-delivery inspection and assembly;
• MOTORCYCLES from which the MANUFACTURER's identification numbers have been removed or whose identification numbers have been altered or mutilated;
• wear and tear and/or maintenance parts such as drive chains, clutch plates and facings, oils and lubricants, spark plugs, batteries, generator brushes, sealed beams and light bulbs, tires, filters, brake pads, drive belts and fuses;
• inconvenience, loss of time, loss of income or loss of use of the MOTORCYCLE or any consequential damage of any kind;
• damages from theft, fire, vandalism, explosion, water or acts of God;
• storage costs, or transportation and shipping costs related to the performance of this warranty;
• damage due to "flat towing" (see your DEALER for explanation).

Section E - Emissions Control System Warranty (For applicable models only) YAMAHA warrants to the CUSTOMER of a MOTORCYCLE covered by this warranty with a displacement of 50cc or greater, that the MOTORCYCLE is designed, built and equipped so as to conform at the time of DELIVERY with all federal emissions standards applicable at the time of manufacture and that it is free from defects in materials and workmanship which would cause it not to meet these standards within the periods listed immediately below. Failures other than those resulting from defects in material or workmanship which arise solely as a result of owner abuse and/or lack of proper maintenance are not covered by this warranty.

• 50cc to 169cc - 12,000 km or 5 years, whichever occurs first
• 170cc to 279cc - 18,000 km or 5 years, whichever occurs first
• 280cc and over - 30,000 km or 5 years, whichever occurs first

Section F This warranty is in addition to, and not a modification of, any warranty required by the laws of any province of Canada.

Subject to any applicable sales or consumer legislation, the above warranty is in lieu of any warranty or representation, expressed or implied, including any warranty of performance, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose on the part of YAMAHA, and any other obligation or liability on behalf of YAMAHA, and the above warranty constitutes your sole remedy and the full liability of YAMAHA. In no event shall YAMAHA be liable for special, incidental or consequential damages howsoever caused, whether by negligence or otherwise resulting directly or indirectly from the use of the MOTORCYCLE, or the MOTORCYCLE'S having replacement parts or the unavailability of replacement parts. YAMAHA does not assume, or authorize any person to create or assume for YAMAHA, any obligation or liability in connection with the MOTORCYCLE or any part thereof distributed by YAMAHA.

Original Equipment Tires Tires supplied as original equipment on your MOTORCYCLE are warranted separately by the individual tire manufacturer or its representatives. Generally speaking, this warranty covers defects in workmanship or material.

Storing Your MOTORCYCLE If your MOTORCYCLE is not to be used for 60 days or more, it must be properly stored to ensure against deterioration. You should consult your Owner's Manual for storage details, but WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU HAVE AN AUTHORIZED YAMAHA MOTORCYCLE DEALER PREPARE YOUR MOTORCYCLE FOR STORAGE. Their highly-trained staff have the experience and the qualifications to do the job right.

YAMAHA cannot accept responsibility for damage to your vehicle or personal injury resulting from negligence or lack of experience in the preparation of your MOTORCYCLE for storage.

Pre-delivery Inspection Checklist The DEALER has assembled, inspected and tested the MOTORCYCLE according to the Yamaha Motorcycle Pre-delivery Inspection Checklist prior to DELIVERY to the CUSTOMER (some items may not be applicable to all models). These items include:

• Fluid Levels
• Drive System
• Cooling System
• Fuel / Throttle System
• Wheels / Tires / Suspension
• Steering and Controls
• Electrical System
• Replacing damaged or missing parts

The Yamaha Motorcycle Pre-delivery Inspection Checklist has been provided to the CUSTOMER at the time of DELIVERY.

Change of Address or Other Owner Information If you should move after you have purchased your MOTORCYCLE, please contact the DEALER who will forward the required information to YAMAHA. Provide the DEALER with the model name and serial number as shown on the N.V.I.S., along with your new mailing address (or other information). This will ensure that YAMAHA has an up-to-date registration record.

Our 432-cc 25-hp portable outboard features a streamlined, portable design and class-leading power-to-weight. While it’s 25 percent lighter than its previous design, it still packs exciting features like battery-less EFI. Pull-start models can now take advantage of this feature, plus the system is designed with an automatic decompression device to require even less effort for manual starting.

Not only that, but it’s one of the most fuel efficient in its class. At just 126 pounds, it’s suitable for lightweight craft such as aluminum fishing boats, tenders and inflatables.

Our 362-cc 15-hp portable features a SOHC in-line, two-cylinder design.  Its single carburetor and CDI Microcomputer Ignition System make it one of the most fuel efficient in its class. At just 111 pounds, it’s suitable for lightweight craft such as aluminum fishing boats, tenders and inflatables.

Features & Benefits

The F25, F20 and F15 all feature a two-valve-per-cylinder, single-overhead-camshaft design that provides better breathing and more power.

An optimally balanced crankshaft and labyrinth exhaust deliver smooth power, while Microcomputer Ignition adjusts timing to maintain maximum engine performance, economy and power under all conditions.

An intake silencer and manifold on the F20 and F15 result in more direct airflow, for minimum noise and maximum power. 

An acceleration pump on the F20 and F15 gives the engine the fuel it needs--when it needs it--like during rapid throttle advance. This ensures responsive acceleration

A 45-degree steering angle in each direction means great maneuvering potential.

A Freshwater Flush Device allows you to flush the engine without running it, for added convenience and extended engine life.

Incredible light weights, built-in resting pads and carry handles, an easy oil retention system and an optional folding tiller handle, allow for easy carrying and on-side storage without oil leakage or cowling scuffs.

RELIABILITY & DURABILITY

A pressurized oil delivery system incorporates a compact and durable oil pump to keep all of the moving parts of their SOHC systems lubricated and running smoothly for maximum reliability.

Protects the outboard with a range of functions including: overheat protection and low-oil-pressure warning (automatically reducing maximum RPM to 2000), over-rev protection, start-in-gear protection and shift-in prevention at open throttle.

Combined with our proprietary alloy (YDC-30), our exclusive Phaze Five™ electro-deposited, anti-corrosive paint system provides a tough, five-layer barrier against corrosion. This protection is standard on all Yamaha Portable outboards.
