Muttukadu Boathouse: Boating on backwaters, ECR, Chennai

Muttukadu Lake is the backwater between MGM & Kovalam beach and on the way to Mahabalipuram we can access it from the East Coast Road . Muttukadu Lake is located around 30 KM from Chennai. You can enjoy rowing, windsurfing, water skiing, Aqua scooters, and explore all other watersports here. This boathouse was inaugurated in 1984 since then this place has been a lucky weekend getaway for locals as well as outsiders. If you plan to visit Muttukadu backwater and take a boat trip in the Lake of Muttukadu, then do plan your trip between October and February.

Muttukadu Boathouse has situated 36 Km from Chennai and 23 Kms from Adyar along the East coast road or the road towards Mahabalipuram. Muttukadu boating is done over Muttukadu backwaters. The backwaters are formed due to a lake connected to the Bay of Bengal to the East of Muttukadu Boathouse. If you are only interested in beaches, then here is a list of beaches in Chennai .

Muttukadu has become famous as a weekend outing place or a picnic place for people from Chennai in recent years. And it becoming one of the best places to see in Chennai . From the safety point of view, everyone on boating is given a life jacket.

This place is an ideal choice for family outings for a day. You can spend some peaceful time with your family away from city life, enjoy the nice ride along ECR, have boating fun together. After purchasing the ticket, people wait inside the waiting room which is made up of bamboos and looks great. They announce your turn over the mike and then accordingly people catch the boat.

Muttukadu boat contribution during Chennai Flood:

Boats at Muttukadu Boathouse, Chennai which once served the fun part of the tourists, turned as lifesavers during the recent Chennai rain flood. Muttuadu Boathouse is situated on the East coast road almost at the outskirts of the city of Chennai.

While rescue operation during the Chennai flood was in full swing inside the city, some of the parts were ignored because of their locations outside Chennai. In those cases, TTDC boats were used for the minor operations along the East Coast road called ECR and the Old Mahabalipuram Road Called OMR. Though these boats had been used during cyclone this was the first time that TTDC boats were used to ferry people in flood-affected areas.

According to TTDC officials, as many as 20 motorboats were used in the rescue operations. Powered by the motor engine, these boats made an innumerable number of rounds throughout the day and the night to rescue people from the flood-prone and flood-hit area.

Besides Muttukadu Boathouse, boats from other boating points along the East coast road were also used in the rescue operations. These boating points include Mudaliarkuppam Boat House, Yercaud boathouse etc. Though Mudaliarkuppam Boat House could not contribute much towards the rescue operation as it was hit badly by the Chennai rain and most of its boats were destroyed under the incessant rain.

The remaining boats are being repaired and it is hoped that the Mudaliarkuppam Boat House will resume its travel and tourism operations soon after being closed for as many as ten days.

Chunnambar backwaters in Pondicherry and boating point met the same fate during this heavy rain along the east coast of India. Most of the boats were washed away, the plan for the luxurious boathouse was also postponed and the officials are waiting for the suits brought by the rain to get washed away from the Chunnambar backwaters so that they can resume the boating operations.

That is a very grey area question but I think they should allow…. as far as I know currently up to 13 years old need a parent but not sure though

Chennai to Pondicherry along the East Coast Road (ECR) 

At a distance of 162 km south of Chennai on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal lies the French connection to India, Pondicherry. With its manicured boulevards juxtaposed with picturesque colonial heritage buildings, Pondicherry is a dream travel destination in India. Although there are many routes to Pondicherry, ECR, NH32 and NH48, the route from Chennai to Pondicherry along the East Coast Road (ECR) is the most popular one and the shortest route, covering endless stretches of unspoilt virgin beaches and backwaters along the coast of the Bay of Bengal. To know what to do, what you can expect, and the places to visit on a road trip from Chennai to Pondicherry, keep reading.

Chennai to Pondicherry By Road…

Taking the East Coast Road or State Highway 49 from Chennai to Pondicherry, you can explore everything including popular pit stops while being en route. Total distance to be covered is approximately 1750km which can take about 3.5 hours. Start your trip early in the morning so that you can catch the sunrise, experience the cold sea breeze while driving and reach Pondicherry by noon.

The two-lane East Coast Road is never congested, allowing vehicles to drive freely and reach Pondicherry in just 3.5 hours.

Kovalam-Beach

Kovalam Beach:

Located in the fishing village of Covelong with three adjacent crescent beaches, Kovalam beach has been attracting tourists worldwide since the 1930s. The rocky promontory on the beach calms the turbulent waters, making it suitable for swimming and other water activities without having to fear the currents. The pristine sands and picturesque natural views make this beach ideal for strolling around or just sitting and gazing at the beauty of the place. People come to this beach for the spa including herbal body toning massages.

Portuguese Catholic Church:

One must stop by this beautiful Portuguese Catholic Church, which dates back to the 18th century. The impressive grotto is dedicated to ‘Our Lady of Mount Carmel’ and a bell tower soaring from a height of 16 meters.

Alamparai Fort:

Ruins of the Alamparai Fort are located at a distance of 100 km from Chennai along the ECR. The fort was built in the 17th century during the Mughal regime and is totally worth visiting.  Built with bricks and limestone over an area of 15 acres overlooking the Bay of Bengal, the architecture of the fort is quite impressive. The fort is surrounded by tall walls and red bricks. From the top of the fort, you can capture Instagram-worthy pictures of virgin beaches and backwaters.

Mamallapuram:

Also known as Mahabalipuram, Mamallapuram is a coastal town nestled between the Bay of Bengal and the Great Salt Lake. The UNESCO World Heritage Site dates back to the 8th century and is famous for its temples and awe-inspiring monuments built during the Pallava dynasty. It is a great place to have authentic seafood. Unwind At The Paradise Beach

Paradise Beach, as the name suggests, is the most beautiful beach in Chunnambar, close to Pondicherry town. Also known as Plage Paradiso, the beach is adorned with golden sands and surrounded by stunning landscapes. The beach is less crowded and has a constant flow of pleasant, cool breeze.

You need to take a ferry from the boathouse to the beach that will take around 20-30 minutes; enjoying the green backwaters surrounded by bushy mangrove forests, watching bird’s flock and clicking beautiful pictures is a fun and thrilling experience but don’t go deep in the water as the currents can get high. Watching the sun getting down on the western coast, drinking coconut water, with good company by your side is all you need in life.

Since it is located in main road it is easily accessible of super market fish market all type of restaurants. madipakkam is a place where it is easily connected to velachery taramani thiruvanmuyur and besant nagar in east side and pallikaranai medavakkam tambaram in west side. if you want to take train in tambaram, central or egmore it is always a 30mins of travel and if you want to go to airport it is hardly 15mins of travel easily accessable of public transport like buses to thiruvanmiyur tambaram t nagar OMR etc. easliy accessable to all beaches like besant nagar beach, thiruvanmuyur beach palavakkam beach ecr beach. very very easliy accessable to pheniox mall which is 5mins from the property and PVR grand mall which just 2mins from our property. BSR Mall, PVR Grand Galada Mall and AeroHub also easliy accessable from our property. bazzar road is a place where we will get all type of products accessories

since it was constructed on 2003 it is older property. Other than that it is located in main road which is why it have a great place to live

Very near to Velachery Railway Station. The property is well connected with all amenities like transport, bank, schools, hospitals, Temples and very well developed roads. It is very fast developing area and near to Vijayanagar bus terminus

nothing as dislike features. the property is well within city limits of chennai corporation and you get all services around

We have constructed 100+ units in and around the area. Locality is well developing with underground drainage system and new water tank has been constructed and opened recently with adequate supply of water all the year round. Streets are monitored with CCTV and police patrol visits often. We never compromised with the quality and finishes. Place is well lit with natural lighting and ventilation.

we have done so many projects so far in the locality, no complaints regarding the area or the construction.

There is a hospital at a short distance where good treatment is available.There is a local market nearby and all the necessary items are available in the nearby shops.Electricity and water are always available.

Parking facility is not available here. there is a need to install CCTV cameras at many places. road is not properly constructed at many places and the street lights on the road do not work properly at many places Due to which there is fear of having an accident.

i am not feel safe too because the neighbours are sacred myself and my wife in night time in this location.the location maintainece is well and pretty much good.it cleaning at all time and iam not face any problem of pollution issue.the electricity bill and charges is cheap and affordable and there was nothing frequently power cutting in this areathe quality of streetlight s is too good and they well lit for walking post 9pm.this area and the neighbours both are peaceful and help ful each other and does not any history of crime in neighbourhood
