M-LINE PRESTIGE M48

Your home away from home on the sea, an exciting new vision in the world of powercats.

The revolutionary design of the PRESTIGE M48 power catamaran affords you the volume of a 60+ foot motor yacht, cleverly configured into a 50-foot multihull.

Winner in the multihull category for the “Design Innovation Award 2022” and winner of the “European Powerboat of the Year 2023”, the M48 offers unparalleled freedom of movement and stability to experience peaceful moments at sea.

This luxurious floating villa at sea has been designed on an entirely new powerboat base. Both taller and slimmer than a sailing catamaran, it also has a far greater usable area both inside and out because it is free of the constraints inherent to sailboats with their mast and sails.

Optimised interior and exterior layouts for uncompromised family enjoyment are the signature across the PRESTIGE brand, and they remain an absolute priority in the M48, with its 360-degree views, generous, brightly lit and refined living spaces and an owner’s suite worthy of that found on a 70-footer.

This entirely unique design markedly increases the level of luxury, space and comfort you and your family can enjoy without the need to increase the size of your boat. Enjoy the intimacy of your family life away from your busy daily life with the rest of the world, without any of the increases in operational costs, complexity to operate and park, and loss of privacy that comes with needing a crew for a bigger boat.

PRESTIGE M48 KEY FEATURES

Prestige M48 - TMG Yachts

  • On the main deck, the open design focuses on space, light, and creating inviting social areas with refined interiors.
  • Floor-to-ceiling windows line the salon on both sides, providing 360-degree ocean views and natural light, while the high ceilings provide a feeling of spaciousness and comfort.
  • A formal dining area and lounge is found on the port side of the interior, while the inside helm station is starboard.
  • The central galley facilitates smooth movement onboard, and it is linked to the interior to the cockpit by a window and massive glass sliding door. This provides convenient access to the fully-equipped galley with high-end appliances and plenty of storage, making it easy to serve guests.
  • By using the space between the two hulls for the night space, the lower deck space of the M48 delivers the height and sheer space that a sailing catamaran can not.
  • Forward, an owner’s stateroom is designed as a true suite with a 5-metre wide full beam space, king-size master bed, side table, a large couch, exceptional storage options and full head ensuite. Large, panoramic windows and opening hull ports afford a breathtaking view of the sea.
  • This exceptional layout affords the option of two identical guest cabins boasting queen-size beds, each of which may be converted into two single beds facing the sea. All three cabins have three separate companionways to reach each stateroom, and every cabin has its own en suite bathroom.
  • If desired, the M48 can also be ordered with a 4-cabin, 4-head layout.

Prestige M48 - TMG Yachts

  • The aesthetics and lines on the M48 are comparable to the PRESTIGE flybridge range, keeping the luxury yacht feel while also integrating the benefits of a multihull.
  • With an extraordinary full exterior surface area of 426 square feet, new design changes include a rectangular deck surface that is nearly 20 feet wide and allows for an enhanced layout, increased surface area on the bow and vast zones for relaxation on the reconfigured deck and flybridge.
  • Narrow side decks afford better use of internal space and greater linkage between the hull and superstructure, while the position of the hull delivers the best balance between livable space and seaworthy qualities.
  • All spaces are designed to ensure a constant connection with the sea, especially the open aft cockpit that can accommodate up to 8 people and the electric aft swim platform.
  • When lowered flush with the twin transom platforms, this versatile aft platform forms an immense, 6-metre-wide terrace that can be used as a tender lift, a beach club or even a cockpit terrace.
  • The immense 65 square foot flybridge with hardtop and XXL sun lounge offers exceptional comfort and spaciousness for serious entertainment, relaxation, and of course, an exhilarating captain’s experience from the helm that offers nearly unobstructed visibility.
  • It includes a generous forward sundeck, a wide bow lounge between the hulls, and a large, plush, U-shaped sofa with a removable table.
  • Shaded from the flybridge overhang, the cockpit consists of two tables and couches split, a wet bar, a mooring station, and plenty of unobstructed views.

Prestige M48 - TMG Yachts

PERFORMANCE

  • The M48 delivers smooth catamaran cruising regardless of the speed and excellent seakeeping.
  • Enjoy a wider cruising range of 600 nm at 8 knots, as well as increased fuel efficiency at speeds of anywhere from 8-16 knots.
  • The performance of the M48 has been optimised for a cruising speed of between 8 and 18 knots, with propulsion provided by 2 x 320 HP. The top speed is 20 knots.
  • With joystick control and V-drive transmission, the Volvo D4 320HP engines provide the thrust and perform magnificently well when cruising or docking.
  • Docking is also easier thanks to its reduced swinging arc, and as a narrower catamaran, it is easier to find a home.
  • Like all PRESTIGE yachts, the M48 features SEANAPPS technology, which enables you to monitor your yacht in real-time, plan and schedule maintenance services and consult the maintenance log, all through a dedicated mobile application.

Scoop - Prestige M48, the first motoryacht catamaran from Prestige Yachts

March 7 2022

Written by Yachting Art English Edition

The French shipyard Prestige Yachts has just unveiled the very first information about the Prestige M48, its very first luxury motor catamaran. Yachting Art invites you to discover the Prestige M48 in preview!

Scoop - Prestige M48, the first motoryacht catamaran from Prestige Yachts

With the Prestige M48, the French shipyard Prestige Yachts continues to deploy its upmarket strategy, announced during the presentation of the Let's Go Beyong plan of the Bénéteau Group.

In 30 years and 4,000 motor yachts, the French shipyard Prestige Yachts, based in Les Herbiers in the Vendée region, has become a key player in the luxury yacht market, positioning itself as the world leader in the 40 to 60 foot flybridge yacht segment.

With the Let's Go Beyond plan, the Prestige brand has become the spearhead of the world's number two yacht company on the motoryacht market, with one constraint: not to exceed 80 feet, the maximum size set for the group's units.

Prestige Yachts has turned this constraint into a strength, by imagining a two-stage move upmarket.

First of all, with the X-Line, monohull crossover motoryachts, available in 70 and 60 feet, characterized by a unique volume on board for this size of boat, and a strong increase in range in terms of finishing.

Private Island on the Sea

Then with the M-Line that you are the first to discover today on ActuNautique Yachting Art, a brand new range of luxury motoryacht catamarans, whose first model is the Prestige M48, a model that Prestige's boss, Erwin Bamps, does not hesitate to describe as a "Private Island"!

In fact, the French shipyard has set itself the ambition of offering family motoryachts highlighting the French Art de Vivre, of relatively limited size, capable of being sailed without a crew, with timeless lines and particularly luxurious, simple to pilot, easy to maneuver and offering a lot of space on board.

The design of the Prestige is by Garroni Design, the Italian firm that has signed all the Prestige since the launch of the brand. Its naval architecture by Philippe Briand.

A classic motoryacht profile

The Prestige M48 is distinguished by a classic motoryacht profile...., not a catamaran! The high and powerful planking, the sporty roofline and the well-integrated flybridge give the Prestige M48 a nice presence without being aggressive. The relationship with the shipyard's conventional motoryachts is obvious and capitalizes on the brand's 30 years of development.

The functionalities and the volume on board offered by the Prestige M48 bring it closer to a classic 60/65 foot motoryacht, with nearly 130m2 of living space.

At 14.98m (49 feet) long, with a beam of 6m, the Prestige M48 is "relatively narrow" for a powercat, a good point in port! Its high planking (the deck is raised compared to the competition) allows the nacelle to be positioned 70cms above the water, a good point when sailing, while allowing to re-imagine the layout on board, using in particular the space located under the floor of the nacelle.

The organization of the Prestige M48's exterior spaces provides 4 living areas, between the aft Beach Club and its garage for nautical toys, the well protected aft cockpit, the 20m2 flybridge, equivalent to that of a 60-foot monohull motor yacht, and the forward saloon, allowing for greater intimacy, especially in port.

Inside, the raised deck (high planking) allows the saloon to be arranged without the inconvenience of the side tunnels of the hull, typical of traditional catamarans. The Prestige M28's saloon is therefore full width, which changes everything, as much for the side galley, which is very large, as for the saloon or the cockpit.

Like the other Prestige, the Prestige M48 offers a private access to the full width owner's suite located in the forward quarter: This walk-through suite is more than 30m2: incredible for a 15m long unit!

On the guest side, each cabin also has its own private access and is characterized by a bed positioned in a transverse way, allowing to have a direct view on the sea!

Efficient and economical

In terms of engines, the Prestige M48 opts for 2 Volvo Penta D4 with joystick and V-Drive transmisson, the IPS being justified neither from an efficiency point of view (IPS are especially efficient from 22-25 knots), nor from a maneuverability point of view, due to the spacing of the propellers and the integration of a joystick.

With a maximum speed of 20 knots, the Prestige M48 consumes 80 liters at 17 knots! At 8 knots, a speed often used on this type of motoryacht catamaran, the Prestige M48 offers a range of 600 nautical miles.

The Prestige M48 will be officially launched next September, during the Yachting Festival 2022!

Prestige M48 sea trial review: The smartest multihull on the planet?

  • Top stories

Prestige reckons its first ever powercat has all the benefits of a multihull with none of the drawbacks. Does this clever new Prestige M48 deliver on that promise?

Prestige has become justly renowned over the years for its cleverly arranged owners’ cabins , for its ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ approach to powertrains and for its ability to create motor yachts that feel as much like floating homes as boats.

What it hasn’t been known for up to this point is catamarans – and yet in spite of the fact that Prestige is part of the vast Beneteau Group , which also owns Lagoon , the new Preestige M48 has been designed not as an adaptation of a sailing yacht but as a powercat from the ground up.

That certainly means it can afford to be narrower and loftier than most comparable cats, but as Prestige is at pains to stress, this is not so much a cat as a novice-friendly cruiser with acres of deck space, plenty of stability and wallet-friendly running efficiency.

In fact, to help us really grasp the idea, brand director Erwin Bamps explains, through a broad grin, that the Prestige M48 has been created to deliver the space of a Prestige 590 , the price of a Prestige 520 and the running efficiency of a 40-footer.

Time to get on board and see how all that theoretical promise translates…

The aft end of the Prestige M48 is certainly a bit of a triumph. You can elevate the central section of the bathing platform to sit flush with the cockpit, extending the deck space by means of a removable seat in the centre of the aft bench.

And even rigged like this, there is still a pair of good-sized swim platforms at water level on both sides, so the watersports fun can continue unabated.

The lifting aft platform also enables you to deploy a 3.2m tender or to elevate it for safekeeping during a lively passage. And there’s a huge central lazarette with handy internal canvas dividers and easy access from the cockpit when the aft platform is in use.

Update: The Prestige M48 is due to appear at the 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival and 2023 Southampton Boat Show .

Prestige M48

prestige m48

Prestige Yachts has announced the first model in their new M-line power catamaran series, the Prestige M48. Known for building luxury cruising yachts from 42 to 80-feet, the Prestige Yachts shipyard will continue its passion for creating the perfect home on the water in a power cat format. The space on board the new M48 will easily rival that of a 65-foot monohull motor yacht.

" Power catamarans offer an incredible platform for comfort and entertaining, so we're not totally surprised to see Prestige jump into this category," said Jay Hendrix , VP of SI Yachts. "Power cats are one of the fastest growing segments in boating for a variety of reasons including the amount of space on board, the fuel efficiency while cruising, and the seakeeping abilities of a multi-hull."

The Prestige M-line will benefit greatly from the Beneteau Group's experience with building quality catamarans in their Lagoon and Excess brands. Garroni Design has once again created a true private island on the ocean.

Exterior of the M48

Immediately noticable on the new Prestige M48 are the similarities to its monohull siblings. The lines on the M48 are comparable to the Prestige flybridge model range, an obvious nod to its traditional styling. The designers wished to keep the luxury yacht feel, while integrating the benefits of a multihull.

The width for the M48, however, is nearly 20-feet which is much larger than its F-line siblings, yet somewhat smaller than other power cats on its class, as well as higher on the water. Prestige's wish to have more room in a harbor for either docking or mooring is apparent in its dimensions. The exterior of the M48 supplies an incredible amount of room compared to the other model ranges with a full surface area of 426 square feet.

The flybridge is classically designed for serious entertainment, relaxation, and of course, an exhilarating captain's experience from the helm. The flybridge deck stretches over 65 square feet and offers nearly unobstructed visibility. Farthest aft is a massive sunpad with moveable backrest that blends perfectly into a L-shaped couch and table for al fresco dining. The factory hardtop covers the upper helm which offers complete navigational control.

Aft Cockpit

The versatility of the aft deck and cockpits on today's luxury motor yacht has grown considerably, and now the M48 uses its space to even further push the envelope. From water sports to formal outdoor dining, the cockpit has a multitude of options for enjoying your time on the water.

Farthest aft is the multi-position bathing platform that is electrically controlled for your convenience. While positioned down, the swim platform can be an excellent jumping off point for scuba, a diving board for kids, or another place to lounge in the sun at the water's edge. When elevated, this area can hold an 11-foot tender or act as a balcony over the water.

Two staircases lead you from the swim platform up to the cockpit area which is a wonderfully appointed space for enjoying the outdoors in comfort. Shaded from the flybridge overhang, the cockpit consists of two tables and couches split, a wetbar, a mooring station, and plenty of unobstructed views.

Interior - Main Deck

A massive glass door and galley window separate the interior from the cockpit. The glass salon door slides to save space, while the galley window reveals convenient access to the countertops, making it easy to serve guests.

The interior of the Prestige M48 has an open-style design that heavily focuses on space, light, and inviting social areas. The galley is farthest aft, is fully-equipped with the best appliances, and has massive storage opportunities thanks to the catamaran design.

Floor-to-ceiling windows line the salon on both sides, providing excellent ocean views and natural light, while the high ceilings provide a feeling of comfort. A formal dining area and lounge is found on the portside of the interior, while the inside helm station is found starboard side.

Accommodations On Board

Thanks to the massive hulls, the M48 delivers incredible accommodations below deck. There are three cabins with three separate companionways to reach each stateroom, a design that may benefit owners who wish to put their yacht into a charter program.

The owner's suite is located forward and has a width that is equivalent to the M48's full beam. A king-sized centerline berth is flanked by two large nightstands and has storage space underneath. There are big closets, a variety of different sized windows, a large sofa, and an en suite bathroom. The other two guest cabins are similar in size, still larger than the traditional monohull guest cabins, and feature twin beds that can be combined into a double bed. Every cabin has their own en suite bathroom.

If desired, the M48 can be ordered with a 4-cabin, 4-head layout.

Performance

With joystick control and V-drive transmission, the Volvo D4 320HP engines will perform magnificently well when cruising or docking. Fuel efficiency at low speeds is a signature characteristic of power catamarans and the M48 is no exception. While the top speed maxes out at 20 knots, the M48 will have a range of 600 nautical miles when cruising at 8 knots. At 17 knots, it will burn 21 gallons per hour. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the benefits of cat cruising!

Stay tuned for more information on the Prestige M48 as it becomes available!

Prestige M8: reinventing the motor catamaran

  • Luca D'Ambrosio
  • September 1, 2023

PRESTIGE M8: Camillo Garroni does not innovate but, literally, reinvents the motor catamaran.

The launch of the new Prestige M8 finally breaks the mold of a market exaggeratedly accustomed to considering motor catamarans as surrogates (without masts) for a multi-hulled sailboat. In this context, Camillo Garroni not only innovates but literally reinvents the motor catamaran, finally giving it its own specific connotation, made of form and substance, effectively creating a new market segment that simply did not exist before.

PRESTIGE M8 is a cutting-edge boat that, in 20 meters, manages to give spaces, functions and settings that are typical only of large motor superyachts . A novelty that we just could not refrain from analyzing in detail.

The new PRESTIGE M8 in detail

It is hard not to be immediately captivated by the new PRESTIGE M8 which, despite her considerable size, flaunts a light sinuous and captivating line, distant light years from the squat and cubic design to which the multihull market had accustomed us in recent years.

The masterful hand of Camillo Garroni skillfully shapes the concave and convex surfaces of this catamaran, which, enhanced by chromatic contrasts, on the one hand celebrate the beauty of these lines, but on the other manage to clothe the new PRESTIGE M8 with a unique design that is certainly destined not to age over time.

But the design of this catamaran does not just impress at first glance, it goes far beyond that, permeating the very soul of this boat , which admirably succeeds in synthesizing form and function into a perfect cocktail, capable of eliminating any barrier between the sea and the craft itself.

A very clear example of this is the main deck, which, thanks to a clever use of windows and reflective surfaces, extends its boundaries far beyond the physical limit of its albeit enormous dimensions, reaching out to conquer the outdoor spaces in a way that is almost imperceptible to the senses. Thus the spaces range from an immense living room, very reminiscent of the style of a Miami waterfront villa, to this huge terrace that gives an unparalleled contact with its surroundings.

From here we descend to the beach area aft where a movable platform of more than four meters, made especially for this boat, comes alive and becomes a precious descent to the sea or, wanting to dream all the way, allows dining at the water’s edge when fully extended.

AERIAL VIEW

Going along the side-decks, we finally reach the bow, which, taking advantage of the almost nine meters of beam offered by the PRESTIGE M8, accommodates a simply immense sundeck and another salon capable of accommodating 8/10 guests with a privileged panoramic view.

As many as two staircases lead to the flybridge, which, thanks to its fifty square meters of surface area, gives sufficient (and abundant) space to the external helm station, a table for 8/10 guests, a bar cabinet, sofas and chaises longues.

As mentioned above, it is difficult not to be fascinated by the more than 350 square meters of this boat, although – it seems unbelievable – these dimensions are even more striking in the sleeping area. It is here that we find the owner’s apartment, a true 30-plus-square-meter suite that takes advantage of the boat’s maximum beam to provide space for a king-size bed, a walk-in closet, and a private four-seat lounge. Equally enormous is the bathroom, which includes two sinks, a shower, and a cleverly separated toilet room.

PRESTIGE M8 main deck sofa

The other cabins are spread across the two hulls and, depending on which version is chosen, galley up or down, there can be four or five, always with private en suite facilities. The version I definitely prefer is the galley down, which, while making the main deck even more beautiful, also takes advantage of the starboard hull to house the galley and a double cabin that can be dedicated to the captain although, in the bow, two more crew cabins can be accommodated.

In this version, the port hull accommodates two VIP cabins equipped with queen-size beds and larger than usual size.

For large families or owners who like to have the boat always full of guests, there is also a 5-cabin version that certainly optimizes the space dedicated to sleeping even more by bringing the galley to the main deck.

Lastly, there is also a very clever 4-cabin Galley Up version, which allows the port hull to basically accommodate a second Master Cabin, equipped with a private lounge.

The new PRESTIGE M8 is not only wonderful but, to a careful eye, it also proves to be able to satisfy many needs: basically a catamaran built in semi-custom mode… This concept is also confirmed by the choice of the interior designer, Valentina Militerno de Romedis who, again with great mastery, furnishes this boat with exquisite taste, making possible a great choice of materials and colors and, again, allowing the creation of a very custom boat, just as is done with superyachts. But on the other hand, this PRESTIGE M8 a superyacht in its own right, both in terms of size and the great finishing work that, evidently, the Monfalcone shipyard manages to produce.

Flybridge 1

Comfort is the primary concept around which Marc Lombard (another great name) has developed the naval engineering of the two hulls that, as mentioned above, give the new PRESTIGE M8 the ability to navigate almost flawlessly.

At the helm the feeling is of total control, from the flybridge the view sweeps 360° giving a great feeling of safety. I put my hand on the throttles and accelerate slowly, we are not aboard a speedboat, but a great catamaran, a boat that deserves respect.

We cruise, of course, with a stability unmatched by any monohull and, in this case, also in absolute silence, a decidedly wonderful way of boating. At 8 knots we are cruising on velvet and, thanks to the hydrodynamics that only a catamaran makes possible, we consume less than 20 liters per hour, or less than 3 liters per nautical mile! This speed is not only economical but also makes possible a very low level of emissions for a boat of this size.

Even at 10 knots PRESTIGE M8 consumes very little, less than 4 liters per mile, a true record, certainly due to the meticulous work Marc Lombard has done with these two hulls.

PRESTIGE M8

The boat navigates in pure displacement mode up to about 10 knots then detaches two parallel wakes, one from each of the two hulls, clears the water and gets up on plane. Between 14 and 16 knots we are going in fast cruise mode, which is useful for escaping bad weather or simply reaching our destination quickly. At these speeds we clearly consume more, about 12 liters per mile, but still far, far less than what a motor monohull would do.

At full throttle PRESTIGE M8 easily reaches 21 knots, a speed we can hold for a limited time, but which can be useful in getting us out of trouble on more than one occasion.

At maximum speed I perform a couple of turns that our catamaran tackles without uncertainty, in complete safety, then through without decelerating the waves caused by a large passing boat. PRESTIGE M8 cuts through the large wave coming forward without the structure joining the two hulls impacting the wave, an excellent feature, quite unique for a catamaran. This quality certainly comes from the star design that Lombard has given to this structure, a real touch of genius.

I slow down and stop, the stability is impressive, PRESTIGE M8 just won’t roll! Spending the nights at anchor will be a five-star experience aboard this yacht.

I engage one throttle forward and another backward, at idle, just to try and see how this CAT evolves, and immediately it begins to turn in place, with absolute precision. Okay I get it, mooring this superyacht is a piece of cake, very comfortable indeed.

PRESTIGE M8 has definitely won me over, in every way.

A traveler's guide to Novosibirsk, the unofficial capital of Siberia

prestige motor catamaran

Trans-Siberian heritage

Residents of Novosibirsk love trains and are proud of the fact that their city played a significant role in the history of the grand Trans-Siberian railway, which spans the breadth of Russia. The railway is such a part of Novosibirsk identity that it is even depicted on the city’s emblem, along with the bridge that crosses the Ob river and two Siberian sables standing on their hind legs.

In the city, there are as many as five monuments to trains, and an open-air locomotive museum is located in the vicinity of the train station Seyatel’. The museum has more than 100 steam locomotives, diesel locomotives and carriages, reflecting the history of rail transportation in Russia from pre-revolutionary times to the present day. Wondering around the stationary trains and comparing your height with the diameter of the gigantic iron wheels of the first steam locomotives is all very well, but why not climb inside the carriages and see how the nobility once traveled across Russia in pre-revolutionary times? These tours will however need to be booked in advance. The museum opens from 11:00 until 17:00 every day except Mondays.

Novosibirsk spans both sides of the river Ob. In the early twentieth century, the border of two different timezones passed right through the city which led to a strange situation- morning on the east bank started one hour earlier than on the west bank! The two-kilometer covered metro bridge that crosses the river is considered the longest in the world. Due to the fluctuations in temperature across the year (on average +30 °C to -30 °C), during the summer the metro bridge expands, and in the winter it contracts by half a meter. To counter these effects, the bridge’s supports are equipped with special rollers that allow it to move.

The cultural center of Siberia

prestige motor catamaran

The repertoire of the theatre can be viewed on its official website . The theatre season runs from September to July, and comprises mainly classical performances, like the ballet “The Nutcracker” by Tchaikovsky, Borodin’s opera “Prince Igor” and Verdi’s “La Traviata”.

The large Siberian sea and ligers

prestige motor catamaran

Weekends are best spent at the Novosibirsk zoo . The zoo is known for breeding big cats, although surrounded by controversy, hosts a successful crossing of a tiger and lion, which of course would not otherwise breed in wildlife. Ligers, or exotic cubs of an African lion and Bengal tigress, feel quite comfortable in the Siberian climate and even produce offspring. The zoo is open to visitors year-round, seven days a week, and even has its own free mobile app, Zoo Nsk .

Every year at the beginning of January, the festival of snow culture takes place bringing together artists from across Russia and around the world to participate in a snow sculpting competition. The tradition started in 2000 inspired by the snow festival in Sapporo, Novosibirsk’s twin-city.

Siberian Silicon Valley

prestige motor catamaran

Despite the fact that Akademgorodok was built half a century ago in the middle of the uninhabited Siberian taiga, architecturally it was ahead of its time. No trees were destroyed for its construction, and houses were built right in the middle of the forest. A man walking through the woods would seemingly stumble upon these structures. At that time, no one had built anything similar in the world and ecovillages only became fashionable much later.

For residents of the Novosibirsk Akademgorodok is a different world. When you step out the bus or car, you are immediately on one of the hiking paths through the forest, between the scientific buildings and clubs. On a walk through Akademgorodok, it is possible to unexpectedly encounter art-like objects handmade by residents of the city which have been erected as monuments and some monuments fixed up by city authorities. For example, the monument to the laboratory mice, which knits a strand of DNA on to some needles, can be found in the square alongside the Institute of Cytology and Genetics. In Akademgorodok there are many cafes and restaurants, in which it is possible to rest after a long walk. Grab a coffee and go to eat at Traveler’s Coffee , or eat lunch at the grille and bar People’s or Clover .

Winters in the Akademgorodok are slightly colder than in the city, so wrap up. Spring and summer are usually wetter, so waterproof boots are recommended. In the summer the Ob sea provides respite from the heat, so do not forget your swimsuit to go for a dip.

Memento Mori

prestige motor catamaran

Among the exhibits of the museum is one dedicated to world funeral culture — hearses, memorial jewellery from the hair of the deceased, samples from a specific photo-genre of  "post mortem", a collection of funeral wear from the Victorian era, deathmasks, statues and monuments. There’s also an impressive collection of coffins. One of them, resembling a fish, was manufactured on a special visit to Novosibirsk by a designer coffin-maker from Africa, Eric Adjetey Anang, who specializes in the production of unusual coffins.

Surprisingly, the crematorium itself does not look at all gloomy in appearance and definitely does not look like infernal scenes from movies, or like crematoriums of other cities that gravitate towards gloomy temple aesthetics. The Novosibirsk crematorium is decorated in “cheerful” orange tones and is surrounded by a park with a children’s playground nearby. A visit to the museum then leaves you with mixed feelings.

Novosibirsk underground

prestige motor catamaran

Tourists from all over the world go down into the Moscow metro to take a ride and a few selfies in the most famous underground museum. The Novosibirsk metro is also quite a museum in itself — it has 13 stations, the most beautiful of which is Gagarinskaya, Sibirskaya and Rechnoy Vokzal.

The ultramodern Gagarinskaya station is like a real cosmos underground. Its technologically themed design includes marble walls with metallic elements, dark blue backlighting and portraits of Yuri Gagarin. The Sibirskaya station looks like an underground treasure trove, decorated by Altai masters craftsmen with mosaics of precious Siberian stones. The Rechnoy Vokzal station is framed with ten glowing stained glass windows depicting the largest cities of Siberia, including Novosibirsk itself, Omsk, Barnaul and others. The platform resembles a big ship sailing on the Ob, from which ancient Siberian cities are visible through its windows.

How to get there

The easiest way to get to Novosibirsk is by plane with Aeroflot or Novosibirsk airline S7 with one-way tickets from Moscow costing from 200-250 USD. If you decide to take from the train from Moscow, you’ll have to travel approximately a third of the Trans-Siberian Railway. That’s 3,300 kilometers over almost a three-day journey.

Where to stay

There are many great hotels in Novosibirsk. Amongst the best include a four-star Doubletree hotel by Hilton , which is located near Lenin Square (per room from $200). After renovations and repairs, the congress-hotel Novosibirsk has improved (per room from $100) and is located across from the train station. Less expensive but of a similar standard is the four-star River Park hotel near Rechnoy Vokzal metro station, which costs $80 per night.
