Jeff Bezos’ New Yacht Is Finally Ready to Set Sail
Amazon’s founder has been spotted on Koru, a massive schooner with a design that evokes the golden age of sailing in the early 20th century.
By Kevin Koenig
Just in time for the high season of yachting in the Mediterranean, when multimillion-dollar megayachts descend on ports like Monte Carlo and St. Tropez, Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has been photographed with his partner Lauren Sánchez on his new boat, Koru, off the coast of Spain.
Mr. Bezos’ vessel is a sailing yacht, a departure from the diesel-powered, floating palaces popular with other billionaires. But it is still massive. At 417 feet, Koru is the world’s largest sailing yacht, according to Boat International , and it cost an estimated $500 million to build, Bloomberg reported . (Parsifal III, the boat featured on Bravo’s reality series “Below Deck Sailing Yacht,” is 177 feet long — less than half the length of Koru — and cost $18 million , according to the website SuperYachtFan.)
A spokesperson for Mr. Bezos did not comment for this article; neither did Oceanco, Koru’s builder. Here is what to know about the boat.
For traditionalists, Koru is refreshing. At a time when yacht design skews outrageous — see the lizardlike, 262-foot Artefact or the otherworldly 463-foot Yas — Koru stands out as a schooner, a sailing vessel with two or more masts. Photos reveal a large sailboat with three masts, an on-deck pool and a voluptuous mermaid on the bow, that bears a resemblance to Ms. Sánchez. But otherwise, the sleek, classic lines suggest the patrician age of yachting in the early 20th century, said Robert B. MacKay, author of “The Golden Age of Newport Yachting: Between the Wars.”
“With the clipper bow and the dark hull and the masts,” Mr. MacKay said, referring to Koru’s concave, pointy forward section, “it reminds me of a boat built in 1930 for J.P. Morgan Jr., Corsair IV. It is almost like a reincarnation. It’s certainly at odds with the stuff the oligarchs are building — those look like bloated Clorox bottles.”
Compared with the world’s very largest motor yachts — built for sheer size and the accompanying bragging rights — Koru could almost be considered quaint. Azzam, one of the world’s largest motor yachts, is nearly 200 feet longer.
The Experience
Koru will be propelled primarily by the wind. “Sailboats are usually greener than most powerboats,” said Don Anderson, a former captain of M5 , the world’s largest single-masted sailboat, at 256 feet. “I’d like to think that Koru will be one of the most ecological yachts out there, with its sails and also with the technology that will be aboard.”
“When you’re on a sailboat, you’re more in touch with the wind and the waves than on a powerboat,” he continued. “You’re more susceptible to the elements, too. But you can leave California, and once you get past the Catalinas you can basically surf downwind all the way to Hawaii. All you need to do is run with the waves.”
Mr. Bezos has been a guest on similar boats, according to Bloomberg: In 2019, he was spotted on Eos , a 305-foot sailing yacht owned by Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg.
Bill Tripp, a Connecticut-based naval architect, said the appeal of this type of boat is clear: “When you are on a powerboat, you ask, ‘Are we there yet?’ and on a sailboat, you’re enjoying the ride and the ocean so much that you don’t ask that question.”
Koru will be trailed by Abeona, a 246-foot support vessel. Superyachts often have support vessels following along behind them. These “shadows,” as they are colloquially known, are for the “toys” — the ATVs, supercars, seaplanes, motorcycles, smaller boats, scuba gear, personal submarines and even helicopters that pleasure boaters might bring on a trip. According to its builder, this model of boat can carry these gadgets along with dozens of crew members. (Ms. Sanchez flies helicopters, and the couple was recently photographed taking a helicopter to board Abeona and then Koru.)
Abeona, a motor yacht, will have enough range to follow Koru from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean — a common course for yachts — on a single tank of gas.
The Kerfuffle
Koru set off a controversy last year — before it was even completed — in a face-off with the Dutch city of Rotterdam. The boat was built at Oceanco’s facility in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands, and needed to pass the historic Koningshaven Bridge, known as “De Hef,” in Rotterdam, to undergo testing in the North Sea.
When the city announced it would dismantle the bridge to allow the boat and its mainmast — an estimated 230 feet tall — to pass through unscathed, locals were angry. They planned a protest to throw eggs at the yacht as it cruised by. In the end, the bridge was not taken apart, and the yacht was towed to a different location to have its masts attached.
Koru is Maori for “coil” or “loop” and refers to the unfurling of a fern frond. The koru design is common in traditional Maori art, where it symbolizes new life, growth and peace. Mr. Bezos included a photo of a koru frond in an Instagram post on Jan. 1, 2022.
Brad Stone, who was the first to report on Koru, in his 2021 book “Amazon Unbound: Jeff Bezos and the Invention of a Global Empire,” said the name was “consistent with where we see him today.”
“He is no longer this single-minded tech guy,” Mr. Stone said. “He’s in media and Hollywood and has a new relationship.”

The best pictures of Koru
In 2022, the 125.8-metre sailing yacht Koru made history when she hit the water at Oceanco ’s Alblasserdam facilities. Now successfully delivered, she is the flagship of the Oceanco fleet and the largest Dutch-built yacht in the world.

Koru unable to dock in Florida
Koru arrived at Port Everglades, Florida in November 2023 following a months-long Mediterranean cruise that included stopovers in Dubrovnik, Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and Calabria (according to BOATPro ). The sailing yacht was too large to anchor in the nearby marina, which has a maximum capacity of 121.9 metres. She was photographed instead docking next to a 297-metre cruise ship named Rhapsody of the Seas .
Koru's helicopter landing
Last summer, Koru was spotted in the French Riveria alongside her 75-metre support vessel Abeona . Delivered by Damen Yachting two months before the mothership, Abeona is equipped with a helipad and hangar for a D14 value helicopter– which is clearly being put to good use. Accommodation is for up to 45 people onboard Bezos' support vessel, including crew, guests and other specialist staff.
Koru in Portofino
Koru and Abeona also travelled to Portofino in the summer of 2023, with both Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez sighted enjoying lunch and taking photographs while on board.
Koru's figurehead
Throughout construction, it was difficult to get a glimpse of the details on board Koru ; but once handed over, all of her traditional features could be admired up close. As well as the intricate gold paintwork and scarlet bootstripe, the yacht also features an elaborate figurehead made of polished wood. The woman is wearing a necklace with a symbol in the pendant, which some have speculated could be the Māori symbol meaning "koru".
Koru in front of Palma Cathedral
After delivery, the schooner spent some time enjoying the waters of Mallorca. The Balearic hotspot is a magnet for superyachts during the Mediterranean season, but Koru had the quiet anchorage largely to herself after leaving the Oceanco shipyard. Her classic lines could be appreciated in all of their glory against the backdrop of Palma Cathedral.
Koru delivered to Mallorca
In April 2023. Koru was delivered and undertook her maiden voyage from the Netherlands to Gibraltar. She then headed onwards to Palma, giving the world a first glimpse of her cascading aft decks, mighty masts and elaborate aft deck pool arrangement. She was flying solo in Mallorca, but was later joined by support vessel Abeona .
Koru in Gibraltar
Following her successful sea trials in Rotterdam, Koru embarked on journey to Palma, Mallorca that involved an overnight anchorage in Gibraltar. The sailing yacht was sighted passing through the Strait of Gibraltar a second time on her cross-continental journey from the Mediterranean to the USA in November 2023.
Koru on sea trials
Koru was spotted departing from Rotterdam in the early morning light of February 13 to begin sea trials. The 125.8-metre Oceanco set sail across the North Sea to put her performance to the test after hitting the water for the first time in August 2022. The traditional three-masted schooner yacht has a midnight blue hull, traditional canoe stern and the unique addition of a chair at the very tip of the bowsprit. Her name represents the idea of life’s perpetual movement and is a Māori word closely related to that of an unfurling leaf.
Koru with her masts stepped
The yacht was seen for the first time in her final form on the dock in the Port of Rotterdam. Her trio of masts was stepped here to avoid having to dismantle any bridges to allow the Oceanco giant yacht to pass under. The maximum height of the bridge is 70 metres; the masts on Koru are thought to measure between 65 and 85 metres. The first images of Koru indicate the yacht will have plenty of features for her owner to enjoy, including an aft deck pool and a large, uncluttered sundeck.
Koru launched
The 125.8-metre yacht was moved from Oceanco’s primary facilities at the crack of dawn to enter the final stages of construction. The hull was transported via Dordrecht and Spijkenisse (Oude Maas), and her masts were transported separately via the slightly shorter Rotterdam Centre (Nieuwe Maas).
Koru moves through the Dutch canals
Before she hit the water, the hull of Koru was loaded onto a transport vessel and she made the journey through the Dutch canals for further construction work. The yacht was captured against the backdrop of the quaint Dutch countryside, revealing her classic-looking lines and long rows of windows.
Koru from a bird's eye view
As she was wheeled out of the shed into the light of day, yacht-spotters were able to get their first proper aerial shot of the yacht, without her masts.
Koru rolls out of the shed
When Oceanco completed the work on the hull, the yacht was rolled out of the shed to reveal a crisp navy hull and white superstructure. Koru ’s exterior design immediately drew a comparison to Lürssen’s 93-metre sailing yacht Eos , which was designed by US-based Langan Design . This was the world’s first sighting of the already iconic superyacht.

Jeff Bezos' fanciest toys, from a superyacht to the newest Gulfstream jet
- Amazon founder Jeff Bezos owns expensive properties, planes, and a megayacht.
- His most recent acquisitions include mansions on an island in Florida and the latest Gulfstream jet.
- Here's a rundown of Bezos' most expensive toys.
Jeff Bezos has become one of the world's richest people , so it's no surprise that he's purchased lots of expensive toys, from a megayacht to houses on a private island in Florida.
Bezos has a net worth of $192.3 billion and is currently the second-richest person in the world, according to Forbes .
Bezos has invested some of the money that he's made since founding Amazon in 1994 into other businesses. He founded rocket and aerospace company Blue Origin in 2000, for instance. And in 2013, he acquired The Washington Post. This year, he also sold some of his Amazon shares to fund Day 1 Academies , a chain of nonprofit preschools that he founded.
But Bezos has also spent hundreds of millions on planes, a yacht, houses, and other property. A representative for Bezos didn't respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.
Here's a look at the Bezos-owned planes, yachts, and houses that we know about:
One of Bezos' newest acquisitions seems to be a Gulfstream G700.
Bezos's newest private jet appears to be a Gulfstream G700, according to data from JetSpy. The Amazon founder likely took possession of the plane in July, flight data shows.
The G700 just got approval to fly from the FAA in March and is worth around $80 million, BI previously reported.
The Gulfstream would be Bezos' fourth jet.
The G700 is the latest private jet purchased by Bezo, who has collected multiple private planes over the years.
He previously purchased two Gulfstream G650ERs as well as a Pilatus PC-24, BI reported. With the addition of the G700, Bezo's aircraft are now collectively worth more than $200 million.
Through the same LLC that his two G650ERs are registered to, Bezos has also owned a hangar in Seattle since 2015.
Bezos also has a megayacht called Koru.
Koru , a 127-meter yacht, made her debut in 2023 with a trek around the Mediterranean. The vessel cost about $500 million and includes the Abeona, a support vessel, BI previously reported.
The yacht has hosted celebrities from Bill Gates to Leonardo DiCaprio . Bezos and fianc ée Lauren Sánchez also had their engagement party aboard Koru last year.
Bezos recently bought three mansions on an exclusive island off of Miami.
Over the past year, Bezos has acquired three homes in Indian Creek Village , an island off of Miami known for its lux residences. Other notable property owners there include Tom Brady and Carl Icahn.
Bezos has spent $237 million between the three properties.
He also owns property in the nation's capital.
In 2016, two years before Amazon announced that it was building its HQ2 in Arlington, Virginia, then-Amazon CEO Bezos paid $23 million for a compound across the river in Washington, D.C.
Bezos then spent another $12 million renovating the two-structure property, which previously hosted a textile museum. The property features a ballroom, 11 bedrooms, and 25 bathrooms, BI reported in 2018.
The mansions are just a few properties amongst Bezos' extensive real estate holdings.
The Amazon co-founder owns properties in his company's hometown, including a lakeside compound with a private shoreline, boathouse, and a waterslide.
But his real estate holdings extend far beyond the Pacific Northwest.
In West Texas, Bezos acquired the Figure 2 Ranch, a 30,000-acre property, in 2004, Architectural Digest reported in May. The ranch plays host to Blue Origin.
Bezos' other holdings include homes in Beverly Hills and luxury apartments in Manhattan, according to Architectural Digest.

Jeff bezos’ $500m yacht has a 246-foot support ship, lauren sanchez figurehead.
Much like Amazon, Jeff Bezos’ $500 million superyacht offers every bell and whistle imaginable, from A to Z.
The colossal, triple-masted Koru began its career serving the world’s third richest man this week, cruising the Mediterranean around Mallorca.
The 417-foot schooner first left Rotterdam in the Netherlands for sea trials in February. Dropping anchor in Mallorca put its jaw-dropping size on full display.
It also showed the extent of Bezos’ fleet: Not only did the Koru sail into harbor, so did its support vessel, Abeona, a mega-boat in its own right, the luxurious fast-launches used to move between the two — and aerial support in the form of his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez’s personal helicopter.
Sanchez also seemingly serves as the fleet’s mascot, with the Koru’s figurehead, a part of traditional large sailing ships, modeled after her.
The Koru is the world’s tallest sailing yacht. Its three huge 229-foot masts power it to 20 knots. It’s also the biggest billionaire’s yacht which can move under sail-power alone.
The masts are so tall that Dutch officials considered dismantling the 95-year-old Koningshaven Bridge to allow the vessel past the 131-foot span on its journey from the Oceanco shipyard in Alblasserdam through Rotterdam to the North Sea.
That controversial plan was scrapped after local backlash, including residents being urged to toss eggs at Bezos’ “latest toy,” the New York Times reported . The superyacht, previously known as Y721, was instead towed to a shipyard in Rotterdam, downstream of the bridge, without its masts.
Bezos, 59, and the bikini-clad Sanchez, 53, appeared ready for the summer as the pair soaked up the sun aboard Koru, a Māori word for loop or coil that symbolizes new beginnings — possibly a coy reference to their relationship.
Sanchez started secretly dating the Blue Origin founder in the summer of 2018. Bezos then announced in January 2019 he and his wife Mackenzie were divorcing after 25 years , while Sanchez finalized her split from husband Patrick Whitesell later that year.
Sanchez plays a critical role in the Bezos fleet: As a helicopter pilot, she was seen landing on the Abeona. She was also at Bezos’ side when he took the wheel of the Koru.
Koru was first seen under construction in 2021 at Oceano’s yard. The company is owned by a fellow billionaire, Oman’s Mohammed Al Barwani.
As many as 18 guests can enjoy the yacht’s three outdoor decks, including one with two pools. The vessel, which has a crew of up to 36, also boasts a cinema, meeting spaces and lounges, Luxuo reported .
Every detail is designed for luxury, even down to the masts’ technology.
Bezos opted for high-tech “in-boom furlers,” which store the vast canvases at the bottom of the mast, above the deck. Each weighs nearly 2,000 pounds, but they allow his deck to be kept clear of ropes.
Clearing ropes out of the way maximizes entertaining space, and allows for a hot tub forward of the mainmast.
The yacht is also built for speed. Its three masts provide “one of the largest sail areas ever seen in yachting,” according to SuperYacht Times .
The Koru’s original designer, and the identity of its captain, remain secret. Boat International noted : “With the elegant curve of the bow and a bowsprit, the lines are certainly classic, but we still have no idea which designer drew them.”
The Cayman Islands-flagged vessel also has engine power like most sailing yachts.
And while other billionaires measure yachts by size, Bezos’ is only the 24th largest.
However, since Koru’s masts rule out a helicopter deck, the billionaire commissioned a support vessel, Abeona, named for the Roman goddess of outward journeys.
In addition to a helipad, the 246-foot Abeona features an extra two staterooms for four guests and as many as 45 crew and support staff.
It’s the largest custom-built support vessel ever manufactured by Damen Yachting. On board in Mallorca were at least four jetskis, two fast launches, and an additional dinghy. Its heavy winch is capable of lifting a small submarine, although Bezos is not believed to have one thus far.
The “classic exterior lines” of Koru, are reminiscent of another billionaire’s boat: Eos, a 305-foot sailing yacht owned by Barry Diller, 81, who may have inspired Bezos after hosting him on the vessel.
Favored by megastars like Katy Perry and Bradley Cooper — who were Diller’s guests during 2019’s Google Camp in Sicily — the German-built Eos can accommodate up to 16 guests and 21 crew.
It was the largest private sailing yacht in the world when it was completed in 2006. Diller, chairman of IAC and Expedia, who is worth $3.9 billion, bought it three years later. Intriguingly, its figurehead is modeled on Diller’s wife Diane von Fürstenberg, the fashion designer.
But the $200 million, 305-foot schooner is now dwarfed by Bezos’ boat.
As Koru sailed in the Balearic Sea this week off the coast of Spain, Bezos’ boat symbolically surges past several other tech billionaires’ vessels – including Google co-founder Sergey Brin’s $80 million, 240-foot Dragonfly, and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison’s, $160 million, 288-foot Musashi.
It will cost Bezos, 59, an estimated $25 million per year to operate Koru, but the world’s third-richest man isn’t likely to need a loan with his $140.6 billion fortune, according to Forbes .
Bezos’ use of sailpower sets him apart from most billionaires, but others are seeking a hi-tech zero-carbon power source: a Japanese billionaire has reportedly commissioned the world’s first hydrogen-powered superyacht.
Germany’s Lürssen Yachts announced in March that they had a hydrogen-powered superyacht in advanced construction.
It declined to identify the future owner of the unnamed superyacht, but specialist publication FuelCellsWorks reported Japanese billionaire tech Yusaku Maezawa, worth an estimated $1.7 billion, commissioned the innovative effort.
Dubbed Project Cosmos, the 374-foot superyacht is designed by Apple’s legendary Marc Newson and was first unveiled in early March at Lürssen’s facility in Rendsburg, Germany.
Once completed as soon as next year, the vessel is expected to utilize emission-free fuel cell technology to generate power lasting up to 15 days while anchored or to travel as far as 1,000 miles at slow speeds.
Three other major shipyards, including in Italy and the Netherlands, are likely to launch their own hydrogen started outfitting newly constructed vessels with hydrogen fuel cells as of March 2022, with the first models reportedly expected in 2024.
Other megayachts expected to soon join Bezos’ Koru in the water include two Lürssen models, the 475-foot Luminance and the 400-foot Jag, and Feadship 821, a 389-foot offering from the Netherlands manufacturer.
But even those won’t best the biggest megayacht in the world, the 593-foot Azzam, which launched in 2013 after being commissioned by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the ruler of Abu Dhabi and president of the United Arab Emirates who died last year.
Azzam, which means determination in Arabic, reportedly cost more than $600 million and is nearly 60 feet longer than the world’s second-largest yacht, the 533-foot Eclipse, owned by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.
Those monster vessels are expected to be surpassed next year by REV, a 600-foot yacht under construction in Norway which will have space for 36 guests and 54 crewmembers, according to Boat International .

I wonder if the Beckhams suffer from the pruney, shrivelled fingers that come from bathing in briny waters? How Kevin Costner keeps his white shorts so sparkly. And whether Beyoncé experiences that unique discomfort that develops while sitting in one’s soggy bikini bottoms for too long?
These are just some of the questions I ask while admiring the 0.1 per cent aboard their boats each summer. For many, the season is initiated by the lengthening of hours in a day, or the beginning of the school recess. For me, the start of summer is marked by the first paparazzi images to emerge of the actor and climate activist Leonardo DiCaprio cruising in the sun.
No one enjoys, nor lives the superyacht summer so completely as DiCaprio: the usually reclusive 49-year-old seems to come alive the moment he sets foot aboard the deck. At a time when the news cycle is ordinarily sluggish, I am endlessly entertained by DiCaprio’s life of leisure, whose chief entertainments include gambolling through the waves astride a jet ski (no carbon footprint there eh, Leo?) and keeping in proximity to whichever supermodel’s derrière he has deigned to squire this year.
His current squeeze appears to be the brunette Italian model Vittoria Ceretti (keep up, guys) who, at 26 years old, is thought to be the first girlfriend he has engaged beyond the quarter-century mark. I don’t begrudge DiCaprio his instincts. He represents the person — like a young Jack Nicholson — we all aspire to be. He sates every tiny appetite. And embodies the essential creed of not seeming to have a single care. Not for him the petty vanities of six-packs or full body tanning: he just wants to let it all hang out, unleash his inner five-year-old, and plunge gleefully into the sea.
This summer has found DiCaprio holidaying aboard the yacht Koru, with Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez, to whom Bezos became engaged last year. The world’s second-richest man has afforded DiCaprio some downtime as one of the cluster of celebrities sucked into Bezos’s orbit. Singer Katy Perry and her little Legolas Orlando Bloom have made up the odd sextuplet seen bobbing about Sardinia this past week.
The Koru took four years to build at the cost of an estimated $500mn. It’s just one of the post-divorce assets Bezos has acquired — along with celebrity acquaintances and ferocious biceps — following his split from MacKenzie Scott in 2019. The 417-foot schooner is said to be an homage to his new beloved, with a busty figurehead at its bow that bears an uncanny likeness to Sánchez. As with his US Vogue shoot, and his too-tight cream trousers, Bezos’ mid-life era acquires another cliché every month.
But whatever. Every billionaire should have a big boat: it’s what being a billionaire is all about. Bernard Arnault’s Symphony boasts interiors by Zuretti, a cinema and grand piano, while the Octopus, built for Microsoft’s Paul Allen, has a large pool, a hangar for two copters and two helipads. Big yachts are, as pointed out by the FT’s unofficial boat correspondent Brendan Greeley, “a terrible asset”. And yet, they remain an almost irresistible indulgence for the super-rich. After all, what better way to boast your superpower credentials than to round up flocks of famous people, get them to take their clothes off, and hold them captive for your sport?
Sadly, the charms of superyachts evade me: I see them only as prisons on the sea. The thought of being moored for days with only bare acquaintances — while wearing a bikini, for God’s sake — strikes me as one of the more appalling ways to spend one’s down time. And that’s before the nagging nausea of all that floating, the persistent threat of drowning or being whacked across the head. All those bloody ropes, all that tack and jibing. And while, yes, I know that superyachts aren’t really boats as I might recognise them, there’s still no escaping that fact that, you know, it’s all quite wet.
Add to that the bougie cocktail parties, the endless peacocking, plus the dilemma of how to pull off a cocktail dress while having to pad around in deck shoes, or worse, bare feet. I hope Bezos retains a podiatrist aboard the Koru: DiCaprio may be unkempt but he is by no means gnarly, and I need to know someone is attending to his toes.
I envy not these people on their superyacht adventure: examining Bezos’s onshore excursions I feel not one jot of jealousy. I’m just thrilled he’s ponied up for more DiCaprio content. “The king of the world”, forever: our prince of the vacation seas.

According to The New York Times , when Koru sails it will be trailed by Abeona, a 246-foot support vessel. This separate boat can be used to hold jet skis, extra food and has a helicopter landing pad on the top, for jet-set access.
The publication also reports that the boat caused controversy when the Koningshaven Bridge was considered for dismantling to fit the vessel through. Instead, the boat was moved without its masts.
It was aboard his impressive yacht that Jeff and his fiancée Lauren were seen looking loved up in May this year.
The happy couple leaned in together and exchanged sweet nothings as they admired the gorgeous views, with Lauren flashing a dazzling diamond on her left hand. Leading publications to speculate about their engagement, which was later confirmed by People magazine.
Why did Jeff Bezos divorce MacKenzie Scott?
News broke of Jeff and Lauren's relationship in 2019, shortly after he announced he was divorcing his wife of 25 years MacKenzie Scott.

At the time, he tweeted about his divorce: "We want to make people aware of a development in our lives. As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends.
"We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other. If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again. We've had such a great life together as a married couple, and we also see wonderful futures ahead, as parents, friends, partners and ventures and projects, and as individuals pursuing ventures and adventures. Though the labels might be different, we remain a family, and we remain cherished friends."

This superyacht ceo didn't sell jeff bezos a $500m boat but confirms demand is 'absolutely incredible'.
MarineMax CEO Brett McGill is no stranger to selling superyachts that cost anywhere from $200,000 to $100 million to the ultra wealthy. Actually, it's his job to do so.
And based on years of experience, McGill understands why Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos may be building a monster of a floating luxury vessel.
"First thing I thought is why didn't my team get a hold of him and sell him a boat," joked McGill on Yahoo Finance Live when asked about his thoughts on the boat-buying Bezos. "Beyond that, I think it's relative for everybody. For some a 20-foot boat with three family members out anchored up on an island creating a memory that lasts forever to a yacht like that [Bezos'] where you can have several families and fishing gear, diving and snorkeling and tour the world — to each his own."
It may be relative for everybody, but when it comes to the world's richest man Bezos — make no mistake he is in rarefied air as it pertains to purchasing a boat.
Bezos is buying a 417-foot superyacht that boasts its own support yacht and helipad, Bloomberg reported earlier this month . The reported cost of the luxury sailing experience: $500 million. For some perspective here, a 25-foot 2022 Boston Whaler 250 Dauntless — no slouch of a ride for weekend boating fans — could set one back a little under $200,000.
As for MarineMax, McGill said business is very good for the second straight summer season as people look to escape the realities of the pandemic in all forms. For the six-months ended March 31, MarineMax saw sales surge 52% to $934.6 million. Same-store sales rose an impressive 33%. Net earnings increased more than fourfold.
MarineMax ( HZO ) shares are up nearly 50% this year, per Yahoo Finance Plus data .
"The demand is absolutely incredible, which gives us one of the best backlogs we have ever seen in the retail environment," McGill said.
That backlog doesn't include a $500 million superyacht for Bezos. But judging by MarineMax's stock price and financials, it doesn't need Bezos' oversized order.

Jeff Bezo's $500m superyacht Koru: A New Era of Superyachts
The world of superyachts has been buzzing with excitement since the unveiling of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' newest acquisition: the 127m (417ft) sailing yacht Koru. Built by Dutch shipyard Oceanco, Koru is a testament to the remarkable engineering and design prowess of the superyacht industry.
Koru's impressive specifications and luxurious amenities have been the subject of much speculation since the project's inception. However, it wasn't until recently that the public got a glimpse of the megayacht's vast proportions and incredible features.

Jeff Bezos's $500 Million Yacht Is Too Grand To Dock
- Jeff Bezos' divorce from Mackenzie Scott was one of the most expensive in history, with him paying $38.3 billion to settle.
- Despite the high-profile divorce, Bezos and Scott remained amicable and wished each other well.
- Bezos' extravagant symbol of love, the $500 million Koru yacht, faced challenges including being too big to pass under a bridge and having to dock alongside commercial shipping vessels.
The third-richest person in the world, Jeff Bezos , accumulated a massive fortune, but has been accused of having lost his most important body part ... his "heart."
Bezos ' emblem of love, his $500 million Koru yacht (upon which a statue of his fiancée Lauren Sanchez is a purported spearhead), was famously too big to pass under a bridge .
Yet Jeff Bezos ' love and romantic gestures are too grand for any barrier.
The former president and CEO of Amazon started a new chapter of his life, but to end the first chapter, he had to pay a staggering $38.3 billion .
Jeff Bezos was the richest person in the world when he and ex-wife Mackenzie Scott got divorced in 2019.
Every 'Sexiest Man Alive' For The Past Decade Has A Bonkers Net Worth
Mackenzie Scott was awarded a significant sum after her divorce from Bezos was finalized, reportedly worth $38.3 billion in total.
In December 2020, the New York Times covered Scott's ongoing efforts to distribute funds to charities, and explained:
When Ms. Scott and Mr. Bezos divorced [in 2019], Ms. Scott received 4 percent of the outstanding stock in Amazon, or 19.7 million shares. They were valued at the time at about $38.3 billion.
Those shares [as of December 15th 2020], after a pandemic-fueled surge in Amazon stock, would be worth about $62 billion; it is not clear how many shares [Scott] has sold.
The divorce made Mackenzie Scott the twenty-second richest person (and the third-richest woman) in the world.
Bezos ' divorce was the most expensive in history as of 2019.
Later, Bill Gates broke this record and reportedly paid $76 billion, though the terms of his divorce settlement weren't publicly disclosed.
The Most Expensive Divorces In Royal Families, Ranked
Mackenzie Scott and Jeff Bezos parted ways amicably, particularly considering the dissolution of their marriage was both high-profile and high-stakes.
There was no hint of acrimony between them, nor did they speak negatively in the media about one another.
It all went smoothly. Mackenzie received many assets to which she was entitled, and they appeared to sincerely wish each other well after their divorce.
Investopedia said of the former couple's split:
As billionaire breakups go, this one was pretty amicable—the couple exchanged mutually appreciative messages on Twitter (now X)—and was swiftly resolved out of court.
The reason for the divorce was a common one – Jeff Bezos had already fallen in love with Lauren Sanchez.
Bezos didn’t want to waste any time, so he filed for divorce, and Lauren Sanchez divorced her husband, Patrick Whitesell.
After 26 years of marriage, Jeff Bezos couldn’t wait another 48 hours and confirmed his relationship with Lauren.
Lauren and Jeff met in 2000; Lauren's ex-husband Patrick, who is a Hollywood agent, introduced the pair at a party.
They have kept in touch since their first meeting; Jeff Bezos even hired her company to film his 2021 project Blue Origin aerially.
After paying $38.3 billion to end a marriage, many people would not think about getting married again, but Jeff sank deeply into the sands of love:
Jeff Bezos Proposes to Lauren Sanchez With 20-Carat Diamond Ring
In January, he started to publicly appear alongside Lauren Sanchez.
By the time May rolled around, they were officially engaged to marry.
In November, Sanchez discussed her plans to marry Bezos in a profile published by Vogue:
“We’re still thinking about the wedding,” says Sánchez, “what it’s going to be. Is it going to be big? Is it going to be overseas? We don’t know yet. We’ve only been engaged five months!”
He proposed at the start of their summer at sea, hiding the ring under her pillow after a starlit dinner à deux. She found it at bedtime, her makeup off. “When he opened the box, I think I blacked out a bit,” she tells me.
New Beginnings: Jeff Bezos' Koru, A Symbol Of His Love For Lauren Sanchez
Of course, this is the love story of a billionaire, among the richest in the world, and Jeff Bezos didn't disappoint in terms of extravagant gestures of love:
The former Amazon CEO hired Oceanco, a famous private yacht manufacturing firm, to build a super-luxurious yacht so he and his lover could traverse the globe in comfort and style:
Inside KORU: Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos' $500 Million Superyacht
Oceanco obliged Bezos' request (and charged him half a billion dollars) to build Koru, the largest sailing yacht in the world.
Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos christened his yacht as Koru, after a symbol in MÄori art which symbolizes life, strength, peace, and growth.
Koru Enshrouded In Controversy: Blood, Timber, And Backlash
Everything appeared to be going smoothly for the couple, but almost every billionaire eventually draws the ire of climate change activists, who continuously raise their voices against their individual plane usage, environmental pollution, and broadly harmful deeds to humanity:
Oxfam: Richest 1% Emit More Carbon Than 'Two-Thirds Of Humanity'
Unsurprisingly, they raised questions about Bezos' symbol of love, Koru.
According to some reports, the notorious Myanmar teak possibly used to construct the Koru is called "Blood Timber" because it is illegally smuggled , and reportedly, up to 70 percent of Myanmar timber has been exported illegally .
This is controversial not only because smugglers empty forests, but also because profits from the harvesting are funneled to the military, who initiated a coup and seized control of Myanma Timber Enterprise.
The military of Myanmar is responsible for the Rohingya genocide , resulting in the deaths of thousands of people.
Those who oppose the military are imprisoned and sentenced to death , and as such, Myanmar teak is known as "blood timber."
Concerns were raised because the Omani owner of Oceanco (Mohammed Al Barwani) was known to have a history of using Myanmar teak in making ships.
Further objections were raised against Bezos ' Koru when it was alleged the Koru was likely to emit 7,154 tons of carbon emissions in a year.
Jeff Bezos and Oceanco did exactly what the public has come to expect of any billionaires; they ignored those voices and concerns.
Koru: Jeff's Romantic Gesture Was Too Big For Bridges And Docks
In 2021, Koru (the largest sailing yacht in the world), faced the first big challenge in her path — the historic Koningshaven Bridge in Rotterdam.
Koru could have been diverted from elsewhere, but Rotterdam city authorities initially planned to dismantle the bridge and set Koru free to roam the seas.
The people of Rotterdam were deeply displeased at the proposed disassembling of a piece of their heritage and pledged to throw rotten eggs at the boat, so the maiden voyage of the Koru was changed .
The mega-yacht finally met her owner in April 2023, and Bezos was pleased to take possession of his luxurious boat, with its polished wooden spearhead of Lauren Sanchez.
Later, Lauren Sanchez revealed that despite uncanny similarities to her, the statue was, in fact, modeled on Freyja, the Norwegian goddess of love.
The magnificent Koru contains a double-decked wooden coach house, in which 18 people can easily be accommodated in nine staterooms.
There are 36 crew members on the yacht, and Jeff Bezos spends $25 million per year to manage the crew and super-yacht.
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's Koru finally reached the shores of the United States in November, and encountered another challenge –there was no space for her to dock alongside other yachts .
Her anchor was dropped at Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades (alongside commercial shipping vessels), and it costs Bezos $16,500 weekly to keep her there.
Consequently, Koru , a delicate and refined vessel, is docked alongside big sea goons like water oil tankers and massive container ships.
Jeff Bezos hasn't publicly voiced concerns about Koru's unusual location, but confirmed in November that he plans to relocate from Seattle to Miami.

Jeff Bezos Enjoys Sizzling Yacht Summer In Croatia With Fiancée Lauren Sanchez, Orlando Bloom, Katy Perry And Usher
Jeff Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez were recently spotted in Croatia, enjoying a “hot yacht summer” mingling with celebrities Katy Perry , Orlando Bloom and Usher , Business Insider reports .
The group was seen in Dubrovnik, a coastal city famed as a “Game of Thrones” filming location. They were photographed walking around the city and spending time on a boat. It remains uncertain if they continued their gathering on Bezos’s $500 million superyacht.
Bezos and Sanchez have previously socialized with Perry and Bloom. In 2019, the couple attended a private dinner for Sanchez’s 50th birthday hosted by Bezos. Additionally, Perry performed at an Amazon event that same year, sharing a photo with Bezos and Lil Nas X .
The couple’s recent engagement party took place on Bezos’ yacht in Italy, with guests like Bill Gates, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kris Jenner.
Bezos and Sanchez announced their engagement earlier in 2023 after their relationship became public post-Bezos’s divorce from Mackenzie Scott Bezos in 2019.

Yachting Jeff Bezos Throws WaPo CEO Will Lewis a Lifeline (For Now)
“The journalistic standards and ethics at The Post will not change,” Bezos wrote to newsroom leaders in a note backing the paper’s embattled new boss.

While yachting in Mykonos , Jeff Bezos on Tuesday finally broke his silence and commented on the ongoing scandal surrounding the Washington Post .
In an emailed memo to senior editors, the vacationing billionaire reaffirmed his support for embattled Washington Post CEO Will Lewis , writing that “the journalistic standards and ethics at The Post will not change”—even as Lewis and his handpicked incoming editor have come under fire for their reporting practices in the U.K.
“Team – I know you’ve already heard this from Will, but I wanted to also weigh in directly: the journalistic standards and ethics at The Post will not change,” Bezos wrote in the memo obtained by The Daily Beast. “To be sure, it can’t be business as usual at The Post. The world is evolving rapidly and we do need to change as a business. With your support, we’ll do that and lead this great institution into the future. But, as the newsroom leaders who’ve been shaping and guiding our coverage, you also know our standards at The Post have always been very high.”

Bezos continued: “That can’t change—and it won’t. You have my full commitment on maintaining the quality, ethics, and standards we all believe in. A huge thank you for continuing to do the work that makes us all proud, and makes this institution so important.”
The memo, which was first reported by CNN, was sent to much of the Post’ s masthead, including managing editors Matea Gold, Scott Vance, and Krissah Thompson. Bezos cc’d top editors Matt Murray and David Shipley—along with Lewis himself.
Bezos’ comments may not do much to quell a newsroom that’s resided in various states of dread and disgust after Lewis pushed out executive editor Sally Buzbee and installed two former colleagues—Murray and Telegraph editor Rob Winnett—to spearhead a new three-newsroom structure.
Since the restructuring earlier this month, reports from The Daily Beast , The New York Times , and the Post itself have highlighted how Lewis and Winnett relied on methods that violate both standard journalistic ethics and the Post ’s own policies to report out stories in the U.K. Some of these practices include relying on a push for stolen documents and placing employees within government offices to scour for information.
“I don’t know how Will and Rob can stay on at this point,” a Post staffer told The Daily Beast on Monday. “ They have lost the entire newsroom.”
Lewis’ relationship with the newsroom plummeted earlier this month after multiple stories emerged over his attempts to kill negative stories related to Prince Harry’s lawsuit in the U.K., which alleged Lewis helped cover up News U.K.’s phone-hacking into celebrities including Harry and actor Hugh Grant.

The New York Times reported that Lewis criticized then-executive editor Buzbee’s plan to publish a story on the lawsuit involving Lewis, while NPR revealed a day later that Lewis promised the outlet an exclusive interview unveiling his business plans if it didn’t move forward with a December story outlining the U.K. case. Lewis and the Post have denied pressuring Buzbee to drop the story and Lewis lashed out at NPR reporter David Folkenfilk for his report, but he later walked back his attacks in meetings with staffers last week.
Still, those meetings didn’t offer much in the way of transparency. While Lewis outlined his plans for Winnett to shadow reporters and editors in the late summer before taking over the main newsroom in November, staffers told The Daily Beast he didn’t make quite clear how the “Third Newsroom,” as Lewis has repeatedly titled it, will function. Staffers were also unsure whether Lewis’ plans for Winnett to join the newsroom later this year would come to fruition.
Bezos’ note on Tuesday, however, indicates his respect for Lewis’ judgment will last a little longer.

Mr. bezos is at it again – check out his $500 million mega yacht.
Jeff Bezos - now that is a name that no one will forget for a long time to come, not only because of the sheer amount of wealth he has accumulated over the past two years but because of the fact that this man continues to use his growing wealth in interesting ways. You clicked on this article so you know exactly what we're talking about.
Well, this time Mr. Bezos' big purchase is a yacht - and not just any yacht but a $500 million megayacht.
What Has Bezos Been Up To?
Before jumping into the details about the megayacht, it would be unfair to not discuss Jeff Bezos’s previous endeavors. Bezos is your next-door-neighbor-turned-billionaire who created Amazon from his parent’s basement. And that's not all. He has many other businesses like Blue Origin which is working to expand the human horizon beyond the world you know and see.
Then there's also Bezos Expeditions, an investment company, as well as Altos Labs, which is a biotechnology company working for longevity therapeutics. Don’t you think that the megayacht sounds underwhelming now?
For Bezos, With Love, Netherlands
While Bezos has big plans for space, let’s discuss what he’s been up to on earth. The business mogul commissioned this superyacht in 2018 and it was reported to be priced at $500 million, breaking world records left, right, and center. This yacht is named Y721 and it is being customized by Dutch Builder Oceanco. There have been reports that the vessel of all vessels was seen in Zwijndrecht, Netherlands last week.
The Y721 is said to be the biggest sailing yacht in the world as it sits at 417 feet in length and is said to be the longest yacht to be built in the Netherlands. This yacht is going to redefine and rewrite the definition of luxury, as you know it. Equipped with the latest technology, advanced machinery, and finest design, the megayacht will set the standard for others to follow. As for now, only Jeff Bezos will enjoy this one.
The Black Pearl
The yacht takes inspiration from Oceanco’s famous model, the Black Pearl. The company calls it the most ecological sailing yacht in the world and the one thing that sets it apart is the fact that it can travel around half the world without burning a liter of fossil fuel - now that is truly impressive.
Though there is not much information on the yacht, it sure sounds impressive. What do you think of Bezos’ superyacht?

Jeff Bezos superyacht will cause historic Rotterdam bridge
There are plans to take apart, and then reassemble, a historic bridge in Rotterdam to allow a superyacht built for billionaire Jeff Bezos to leave a shipyard.
Axar.az reports that the luxury yacht, linked to the world's richest man, is being built by Dutch firm Oceanco. The vessel is reported to be 127m long and too tall to fit through the Koningshaven Bridge.
Rotterdam's mayor has denied any decision has been made to dismantle the bridge, saying he has not received a request.

Koru is a 127-metre sailing yacht currently delivered from Oceanco in the Netherlands. Reportedly commissioned for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos , the superyacht is a three-masted schooner built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. The yacht is the world’s largest sailing yacht and the longest yacht built in the Netherlands. The yacht was constructed at Oceanco’s Alblasserdam facilities and later moved to Rotterdam where she waited to complete sea trials at a dock in Eemhaven.
The yacht was delivered to Mallorca in April 2023. The price of Koru has never been disclosed. She is expected to have a gross tonnage of 3300 GT. The yacht is powered by kinetic energy generated by the sails, but like most sailing yachts, she will have engine power as well.
She will join five other Oceanco yachts measuring over 100 metres and ten other superyachts built in the Netherlands measuring over 100 metres.
Koru main features
Koru has a navy hull, red bootstripe, and double-deck wooden coach house. Her profile is characterised by a long bowsprit and a classic canoe stern which will provide enhanced privacy while the yacht is in port. There is also a sizeable dip pool visible on the aft, as well as a crow’s nest on the mizzenmast.
Koru and the De Hef bridge
In 2021, the yacht was the subject of considerable controversy when it emerged that the historic Koningshaven Bridge, also known by the name De Hef, would need to be dismantled to allow the masts to pass under. However, in August 2022, one of the yacht’s masts was seen being transported along the Nieuwe Maas to be stepped elsewhere and the bridge remained untouched. The height of the mainmast is thought to be between 65 and 85 metres.
Koru's secondary yacht
Koru will be accompanied by a support vessel which is thought to be built by Damen Yachting, another Dutch yachtbuilder, which specialises in ocean-going shadow vessels and explorer yachts This yacht will be used to carry toys, tenders and additional crew.
In 2019, there were a number of rumours speculating that Lürrsen’s 136 metre Flying Fox was built for Jeff Bezos; however an Amazon spokesperson refuted the claims.

127m sailing yacht KORU successfully delivered by Oceanco

By Steph Loseby 11 April 2023
Commissioned by entrepreneur and Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, the 3-masted 127m (416ft) schooner KORU , known throughout the build as Project Y721, has been successfully delivered by Oceanco .
Boasting a striking black hull with a distinctive red stripe running along her waterline, sailing yacht KORU’s exterior styling mirrors a traditional schooner style with an elongated bowsprite and canoe stern. She reportedly takes her design cues from Lürssen 's 93m (304ft) sailing yacht EOS , thought to be inspired by the entrepreneur’s visits to this yacht in previous years.
Although much of her build has been shrouded in secrecy, Oceanco's newest yacht is understood to have an internal volume of 3,300 GT and will undoubtedly offer a wealth of luxurious accommodation and amenities.
KORU offers the last word in innovative design
While her design team has yet to be confirmed, we know the 127m yacht features an aft dip pool, a further Jacuzzi on her flybridge, and multiple areas for relaxing across her open decks.
The sailing yacht will be supported by the 75m (247ft) Damen yacht ABEONA , which was delivered in February this year. Damen Yachting 's largest-ever support yacht ABEONA holds the great responsibility of carrying KORU’s larger toys, including a submarine and a helicopter.
Some say that superyacht KORU is now the world's largest sailing yacht, but this depends on whether you call Nobiskrug’s 143m (469ft) sailing yacht A a sailing yacht. Some would argue she is a sail-assisted motor yacht , yet others claim her to be the largest sailing yacht in the world, including her builder Nobiskrug who states Sailing Yacht A “is the largest of her kind.”
Whether you believe her to be the largest or second-largest sailing yacht in the world, KORU is guaranteed to head-turn wherever she goes.
She departed Oceanco's facilities on April 6 and has now passed Gibraltar, cruising underway at a speed of 13 knots.

The Marvel of Modern Yacht Design: KORU Yacht
The KORU yacht, also known as Y721, is a masterpiece crafted by the acclaimed Oceanco shipyard. With a remarkable length of 127 meters (417 feet), the yacht exudes luxury and grandeur in every aspect. Launched in April 2023, KORU stands as a tribute to Māori art and culture, as evident from its name and styling.
The Māori word “koru” signifies a loop or coil, symbolizing new life, growth, strength, and peace. This symbolism resonates throughout the vessel, creating an immersive experience that pays homage to the essence of Māori art.
Inside the KORU yacht, guests are treated to a world of unparalleled luxury. The yacht boasts a large swimming pool on the aft deck, inviting guests to bask in the sun while surrounded by the beauty of the open sea.
Accommodating up to 18 guests and serviced by a crew of approximately 40, KORU offers a perfect balance between privacy and service.
The yacht’s interiors are a testament to meticulous design and craftsmanship, with each detail meticulously chosen to provide the highest level of comfort.
The Symbolism of KORU’s Name
The choice of the name “KORU” for the yacht holds deep significance. In Māori culture, the koru symbolizes new beginnings, growth, and the cycle of life.
It is often represented as an unfolding fern frond, embodying the concepts of renewal and continuous movement. Jeff Bezos, in an Instagram post , highlighted the symbolism behind the name, showcasing his embrace of growth, rebirth, and mindfulness.
ABEONA: The Perfect Companion
No luxury yacht is complete without a support vessel that complements its grandeur. Enter ABEONA, a 75-meter (246-foot) support vessel commissioned by Jeff Bezos.
Built by Damen Yachting, ABEONA serves as the perfect adjunct to the KORU yacht. This custom-built vessel carries all the toys, tenders, and equipment needed to enhance the yachting experience.
With a large helicopter hangar and the capacity to accommodate 45 staff, crew, and guests, ABEONA stands as an indispensable asset to the main yacht.
The Visionary Behind the Vessels: Jeff Bezos
With a staggering net worth of $160 billion, Jeff Bezos is not only a pioneer in the world of e-commerce but also a visionary with a passion for the sea.
The commissioning of the KORU yacht and the ABEONA support vessel reflects Bezos’ love for exploration and his desire to embrace the vastness of the ocean.
Bezos’ affinity for the sea is also reflected in his ownership of a Gulfstream G650ER private jet, showcasing his penchant for luxury both in the air and on the water.
Oceanco: The Pioneers of Luxury Yacht Building
The Oceanco shipyard has carved a name for itself as a pioneer in the luxury yacht industry. Established in 1987, Oceanco has consistently pushed the boundaries of design, craftsmanship, and innovation.
KORU, with its classic schooner design, stands as a testament to Oceanco’s commitment to creating vessels that are not only luxurious but also artistically inspired.
KORU yacht summary
The KORU yacht and its companion ABEONA support vessel stand as testaments to Jeff Bezos’ love for the sea, his appreciation for Māori culture, and his affinity for luxury and exploration.
These vessels, crafted with precision by Oceanco and Damen Yachting, redefine the boundaries of yacht design and innovation.
As Jeff Bezos embarks on journeys of discovery aboard these vessels, he continues to inspire awe and admiration among yachting enthusiasts and the world at large.

Jeff Bezos’ 127m superyacht Koru arrives in the US
Wednesday, November 29th, 2023
Written by: Marine Industry News
Koru , the record-breaking 127m sailing yacht built for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos , 59, has arrived in the United States for the first time.
Photos circulating online show the $500m titan moored in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. But the yacht is so large that it is being kept alongside cruise ships and oil tankers at a busy seaport, rather than with other superyachts, as Florida’s marinas typically cannot accommodate a yacht of this size.
One nearby marina told the Daily Mail it “might be doable” but warned that Koru ‘s 17m beam and 4.2m draft would make it a huge challenge.
EXCLUSIVE: Jeff Bezos' 417-foot superyacht Koru arrives in US and is moored alongside cruise ship at Ft. Lauderdale seaport instead of other yachts because of its massive size https://t.co/MadmV4o5gQ pic.twitter.com/pKOMF5NxyC — Daily Mail Online (@MailOnline) November 28, 2023
The extravagant three-masted Oceanco schooner was snapped docked at Port Everglades, next to the Liberty of the Seas cruise ship. Meanwhile, Abeona — the ship’s dedicated support vessel — is docked at Dania Beach 6km away. The 75-metre Abeona , built by Damen Yachting, comes complete with a helipad and an array of water toys.
It’s understood that Koru — named after the Maori word for ‘new beginnings ‘ — arrived in Florida late last Wednesday evening after departing from Gibraltar two weeks prior.
Tycoon Bezos and his fiancee Lauren Sanchez have been cruising the Med in recent months, including stops in Sardinia, the Italian town of Portofino, and several stops around Croatia.
Media outlets noted that Koru ‘s AIS tracker had been switched off for an extended period throughout the summer, potentially a bid by Bezos to avoid attention.
Jeff Bezos' Koru sailing yacht has finally arrived in the US, and it's so enormous that it did not fit next to other superyachts at the Port of Everglades. The $500 million vessel was finally docked next to gigantic oil tankers at the South Florida seaport https://t.co/WBccQLq4LR — Nancy Dahlberg (@ndahlberg) November 27, 2023
However, attempts at hiding the goliath — which has estimated running costs of $25m per year — do not seem to have worked.
Amazon boss Bezos — the third richest person in the world with a $170bn fortune – is not currently on board but is expected to use the vessel over the holidays. Bezos has recently confirmed a move from Seattle to the Miami area in Florida, near where his parents live and where his space firm Blue Origin is based.
The design for 3,300GT Koru is based on Black Pearl , built in 2018 and the largest DynaRig sailing yacht in the world.
The steel and aluminium superyacht Koru underwent sea trials in the North Sea in February this year. A video captured by Dutch Yachting shows the vessel being towed out of Rotterdam before cruising on calm waters in the misty morning air.
The yacht was eventually delivered in April, when it made its maiden voyage from the Netherlands to Gibraltar.
Oceanco had remained tight-lipped about Koru while it was under construction, but never denied that Bezos was the vessel’s owner, sending superyacht spotters into a frenzy when the vessel emerged from the sheds in 2022 under the cover of darkness.

$500M, thats about $750M to us tax payers!
Not sure how he gets away with operating a vessel that size with no AIS active.

Jeff Bezos’ $500 million megayacht is seen for the first time with its three massive masts installed. Taller than the Pyramids of Giza, the vessel is ready for its maiden voyage.
Only a few days back, the Y721 sailing yacht was taken out of the dry dock in an unfinished state and quietly towed to Greenport in Rotterdam in the wee hours to avoid attracting attention. In case you’re somehow unaware of the controversy surrounding the $500 million schooner, the vessel grabbed headlines across the globe earlier this year when several news reports claimed a historically important bridge in Rotterdam had to be partially dismantled as her masts were too tall.

The 60-year-old billionaire and his fiancée, 54, are sailing the Mediterranean again this summer on Bezos’ $485 million yacht Koru , which features a sultry figurehead on the prow that looks an awful lot like Sánchez.
They’ve cruised to Greece, Italy and Spain, with a pit stop Wednesday on the secluded island of Menorca in the Balearics, where they took refuge — along with some other expensive yachts — from a low-pressure storm called Dana.
Bezos and Sánchez have been accompanied on the 417-ft Koru by their support yacht, Abeona , which holds their water toys and a fleet of A-list guests who have included Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Leonardo DiCaprio and his 25-year-old Italian supermodel girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti, and others.
“They’re the flavor of the month in the Med,” said a longtime entertainment exec just back from a month in the South of France.
“For a while it was the Russians, and way back in the day it was Ari [Onassis] and Maria [Callas] on the [yacht] Christina. But the Russians like Roman Abramovich are pretty much gone now. There’s always a new wave,” the exec said. “[Sánchez] seems tacky but I’ve heard she’s very nice and Bezos adores her. Is she ever going to look like Babe Paley? Not in this lifetime.”
The exec also pointed out that the Koru is more than 100 feet longer than Barry Diller’s yacht, which measures just over 300 feet — but not as big as David Geffen’s 453-foot vessel — saying billionaires often have “aquatic penis envy.”
The world’s second-richest couple channeled their inner Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in Rome on Tuesday when they shared a passionate kiss in front of the famed Trevi Fountain, seemingly oblivious to the hordes of tourists.
Bezos, in a fitted golf shirt, navy pants and boating shoes, and Sánchez, in a red halter minidress and peep-toe heels, also joined the crowd in the time-honored tradition of tossing money into the fountain with their right hands.
Oh, to know what they wished for.
Later they held hands and walked down cobblestone streets to their dinner destination, Pierluigi, where photographers snapped them dining on white wine, salad and bread at a table containing a singular red rose.
The couple took a bit of a solemn detour on land on Thursday when they swung by the Vatican for a visit with 87-year-old Pope Francis.
“He reminded us not to take life too seriously, a simple yet powerful reminder to keep lightness in our hearts,” Sanchez wrote on social media.
Bezos and Sánchez began their summer in June island-hopping in Greece with a rare appearance by Bezos’ 19-year-old son Preston, who Bezos shares with his ex-wife Mackenzie Scott.
Kim Kardashian then joined them, zipping around the Med on jetskis . At one point Kardashian and an unidentified blonde rode her jetski as they took selfies.
The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” alum has been tight with Sánchez and Bezos for a couple of years, going on a double date in 2022 and attending a Beyoncé concert in 2023.
In September 2023, the trio had dinner together in New York City , joined by Nicky Hilton.
The “Kardashians” star made it clear that Sánchez is part of her inner circle when she celebrated her birthday in a Season 5 episode.
Meanwhile, Bezos and Sánchez were also spotted on their own in Greece on the island of Hydra, walking hand-in-hand on the seafront. They popped up next on Mykonos and from there it was on to Pserimos, famed for its beaches.
July saw them jet to Sun Valley, Idaho, for the town’s namesake financial conference attended by billionaires.
Last weekend, the pair pulled up on the island of Sardinia with Perry, Bloom, DiCaprio and Ceretti. The celebs came to shore on one of Bezos’ smaller boats for lunch at a high-end beach resort before heading back to Koru.
Bloom and Perry — who started their own month-long vacation in France — also vacationed with Bezos and Sánchez around this time last year. In August 2023, the foursome was spotted walking around Dubrovnik, Croatia, with Usher.
DiCaprio and Bezos have been “really close friends” for years, with a source previously telling Page Six they often vacation together and find “common ground in the fight against climate change and their work in environmental activism.”
Koru ranks as the planet’s thirty-second largest yacht and costs about $25 million to operate annually. The vessel can accommodate 18 guests and requires a crew of 40 sailors to manage its amenities.
Its three huge, 229-foot masts power it to 20 knots. It’s also the biggest billionaire’s yacht which can move under sail power alone.
Bezos and Sánchez recently relocated from Seattle to Indian Creek Island in Miami, where Bezos bought three mansions for about $237 million — surely a nice home if you’ve got to be on land.

Koru, the world’s largest sailboat, 127 meters long and 16 meters wide , appeared in Rotterdam a few days ago after being moved from Oceanco ‘s headquarters in Alblasserdam (without the need to dismantle the historic Koningshaven Bridge ). The boat was just registered in the Cayman Islands and, although records show it is owned by Trident Maple CI LTD, it is said to belong to Jeff Bezos .
Koru : the megayacht of Jeff Bezos’ new beginning
The name Koru is derived from Māori culture and is a spiral shape taken from the natural outline of the Silver Fern, a plant that in Māori culture symbolizes new life, growth, strength, and peace . Perhaps a reference to the new life of its alleged owner, who divorced his ex-wife MacKenzie Scott in 2019, giving her 4 percent of his shares in Amazon, making her the third richest woman in America (35th in the world).
All the secrets of Jeff Bezos’ sailboat
1. like a soccer field… + vat.
With a length of 417 feet (127 meters) , Jeff Bezos’ sailboat has no equal. To understand the proportions, it is about 20 percent longer than an 11-a-side soccer field . Or as big as 10 regular buses, if you prefer. It outclasses, by a lot, the Sea Cloud, which at 109.5 meters in length has become the world’s longest ex-sailboat!
2. The record boat
Bezos’s megayacht is also a record for the Dutch company Oceanco , which specializes in building “giants of the sea” (one of the latest being the stunning 106.7-meter-long Black Pearl, from which Koru’s design was inspired): it had never built a boat this large. Which, data in hand, is also the largest pleasure yacht built in the Netherlands .
3. Koru costs very little (for Jeff Bezos).
There is always a lot of secrecy around the cost of these items. According to the most informed rumors Jeff Bezos spent $500 million on Koru. It may sound like a lot, but it is “pittance” for a man who has an estimated wealth of $144 billion and is the third richest person in the world (after Elon Musk and Bernard Arnault)!
4. How much does it cost to maintain it
Given that Koru will have a crew of 40 and estimated mooring and maintenance costs, the New York Post estimated that Mr. Amazon will have to shell out $25 million a year.
5. Tender of 75 m (with helicopter)
Jeff Bezos Bezos’ sailboat has three decks, including one with a swimming pool. And so far, almost everything normal for a boat of this size. But what is amazing is the tender, or rather, the support boat, built in the Dutch Damen Yachts shipyard: 75 meters long, it is equipped with a helicopter landing pad . Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sanchez (who appears to have been a major influence on the tycoon’s choice to get a sailboat), loves to fly.
6. The “copied” interior?
Bezos is said to have been inspired for the interior by those seen on the megayacht Eos by U.S. billionaire (and husband of fashion designer Diane von Fürstenberg) Barry Diller: launched in 2006 and built by Lurssen Shipyards, Eos is “only” 93 meters long: with an aluminum hull and superstructure, it has a maximum beam of 13.50 meters, a draft of up to 5.50 meters, and a displacement of 1,500 gross tons.
7. Jeff Bezos’ superyacht: Double bow
Of the gleaming black steel and carbon boat, the crazy stern and bow soars and classic lines are striking, at a time when design is moving more and more toward vertical bow and stern straights. Strange solution with a kind of “double bow.”
Mind you, a double bow quite different from what has already been seen on some ships and even on a 12-meter motor boat-the Canelli 39 Revolutio-that is, a double bow staggered and lying on the same axis that allows for reduced friction and resistance to motion when the unit is traveling at low speeds and coming out of the water in a planing attitude. In the case of Bezos’ boat, the choice seems to be dictated by the desire to have a large “dolphin boat” integrated into the hull.
8. Jeff Bezos’ superyacht: It makes 30 knots!
The top speed of Jeff Bezos’ sailboat is over 30 knots under sail and 18 knots under motor. The boat displaces more than 3,000 tons. There are 6 (or 7) cabins with a master suite positioned in the bow, which is equivalent to an apartment of at least 250 square meters. Equally monstrous is the sail area estimated at 3,500 square meters.
9. Ecopropulsion
Jeff Bezos’s sailboat has a state-of-the-art electric motor , and the propellers will function as hydrogenerators to recharge the batteries while the boat sails (as is already the case with OceanVolt’s Servoprop-type systems).

Jeff bezos and lauren sánchez cruise the mediterranean with a-list celebs and visit pope francis.
The billionaire couple's $485 million yacht Koru welcomed A-list guests like Kim K, Leonardo DiCaprio and more.
Jeff Bezos and fiancée Lauren Sánchez are making headlines this summer as they sail the Mediterranean on Bezos’ $485 million yacht, Koru.
The 60-year-old Amazon founder and the 54-year-old media personality have been enjoying a star-studded voyage, with stops in Greece, Italy, and Spain.
Their journey recently included a stop on the secluded island of Menorca in the Balearics, where they sought refuge from a low-pressure storm called Dana, along with other luxury yachts.
Accompanied by their support yacht, Abeona, which carries water toys and additional amenities, the couple has hosted a series of high-profile guests, including Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry,
Orlando Bloom, Leonardo DiCaprio, and his 25-year-old Italian supermodel girlfriend, Vittoria Ceretti.
The A-list group has been spotted enjoying the lavish lifestyle aboard the 417-foot Koru, which ranks as the 32nd largest yacht in the world and costs an estimated $25 million annually to operate.
Throughout their Mediterranean adventure, Bezos and Sánchez have been capturing attention not only for their luxurious surroundings but also for their romantic gestures.
The couple was recently seen sharing a passionate kiss in front of Rome’s iconic Trevi Fountain, participating in the traditional coin toss with the hope of a future return to the Eternal City.
Their public displays of affection continued as they walked hand-in-hand down cobblestone streets to a dinner at the renowned Pierluigi restaurant, where they dined on white wine, salad, and bread at a table adorned with a single red rose.
The pair also took a moment for a more solemn visit to the Vatican, where they met with 87-year-old Pope Francis.
Sánchez shared the encounter on social media, writing, "He reminded us not to take life too seriously, a simple yet powerful reminder to keep lightness in our hearts."
Their summer began in June, island-hopping in Greece, where Bezos’ 19-year-old son, Preston, made a rare appearance.
Kim Kardashian joined the couple, enjoying the Mediterranean waters on jet skis. Kardashian and Sánchez have maintained a close friendship over the years, often seen together at high-profile events, including a Beyoncé concert and a double date in New York City in 2022.
The couple’s Mediterranean tour continued with visits to Mykonos, Hydra, and Pserimos, known for its beautiful beaches.
In July, they took a brief break from yachting to attend the annual Sun Valley financial conference in Idaho, a gathering of the world’s wealthiest individuals.
Most recently, Bezos and Sánchez were spotted on the island of Sardinia, where they were joined by Perry, Bloom, DiCaprio, and Ceretti.
The group came ashore for lunch at a high-end beach resort before returning to the opulence of Koru.
Bezos and Sánchez have been navigating not only the Mediterranean but also the social seas of the world’s elite.
Their luxurious lifestyle, complete with the planet’s largest sailing yacht capable of moving under sail power alone, underscores their position at the pinnacle of wealth and influence.
The couple recently relocated from Seattle to Miami’s exclusive Indian Creek Island, where Bezos purchased three mansions worth approximately $237 million, offering a luxurious base whenever they decide to leave the high seas.

Simmons: Jeff Bezos buzz on potentially buying Boston Celtics real
E ver since news broke that the Boston Celtics' majority owner, Wyc Grousbeck, was planning on selling his shares of the team, speculation and rumor have followed on who might step into Grousbeck's shoes as the team's new owner. Current minority owner Steve Pagliuca is on record as planning to bid for the ball club, and there have been rumbles that Red Sox owner John Henry may also bid (to the horror of Sox fans).
But now we are hearing new rumbles that a billionaire may have eyes for a new green and white toy, with the eponymous host of the "Bill Simmons" podcast suggesting Amazon tycoon Jeff Bezos potentially mulling getting into the bidding as well. "In the last few days there’s been some I think legitimate buzz about Jeff Bezos buying the Celtics, and I think it’s real," said Simmons via HoopsHype .
"I think he’s going to be one of the suitors," he added. "Which got me thinking, Jeff Bezos when he’s looking at the Celtics, what is he seeing?"
"What does he want? And I think the only way it makes sense is that it’s one of the crown jewel franchises," said Simmons. "That’s why you get it."
"To him, it would be no different than if you bought this famous gigantic $300 million yacht, but I think it’s real that he’s potentially in the mix for this."
As long as he doesn't cheap out on the roster, most Boston fans could probably live with it, but Pagliuca is likely the best fit for future success considering his proven track record.

Jeff bezos and lauren sanchez host leonardo dicaprio and vittoria ceretti, katy perry and orlando bloom on $485m superyacht.
Jeff Bezos has plenty of space for his famous friends onboard his $485 million superyacht.
The 60-year-old billionaire was photographed soaking up the sun in Sardinia, Italy alongside fiancée Lauren Sanchez, Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Leonardo DiCaprio and model Vittoria Ceretti over the weekend.
The A-list group came to shore on one of Bezos’ smaller boats for lunch at a high-end beach resort before heading back to the massive vessel, named Koru.
The Amazon founder dressed comfortably for the meal, wearing blue shorts, a black collared shirt and sunglasses.
Meanwhile, Sanchez, 54, turned heads in a low-cut, lace coverup on top of a black bikini. The couple, who started dating in 2019, both went barefoot as they walked along the sand.
The “Revenant” actor, for his part, tried to stay under the radar in khaki shorts, a gray T-shirt and a tan baseball hat pulled over his face.
DiCaprio, 49, and Bezos have been “really close friends” for years, with a source previously telling Page Six they often vacation together and find “common ground in the fight against climate change and their work in environmental activism.”
The actor’s model girlfriend, whom he began dating last year, has also seemingly grown close to the couple.
The Italian beauty, 26, looked casually cool in a red-and-white animal print skirt with a simple white tank top. She accessorized with a colorful tote, statement sunglasses and strappy black sandals.
While most of the group covered up for the excursion, Bloom looked ready to take a dip in the water. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star showed off his abs in an open white shirt and orange swim trunks. He shielded himself from the sun with a green bucket hat and shades.
His fiancée, however, pulled out all the stops in a colorful, chevron print mini dress. The frock featured a fringe bandeau top and cut-outs at the torso.
The “Woman’s World” singer, 39, completed the glamorous look with matching pink sunglasses and a shell necklace.

Bloom, 47, and Perry — who started their month-long vacation in France — also vacationed with Bezos and Sanchez around this time last year.
In August 2023, the foursome was spotted walking around Dubrovnik, Croatia, with Usher.
While it’s unclear exactly when the group linked up , Bezos and Sanchez have spent most of their summer traveling around Europe on his 417-foot megayacht — which accommodates 18 guests.
The lovebirds kicked off their summer adventures in Greece alongside Kim Kardashian before traveling through the Mediterranean Sea and up to Italy.
While living on Bezos’ “super big boat,” Sanchez — a certified helicopter pilot — has been “seen flying a helicopter on and off their support boat, where they keep all their toys . . . helicopters, speed boats and other water toys,” a source told Page Six.
The CEO began building the mammoth ship in 2018 and it was finally completed last summer. It is largely considered to be the tallest sailing yacht in the world, measuring 230ft tall.
The superyacht has three outdoor decks, two swimming pools, a cinema, several lounges and multiple business areas, according to Luxuo .
Stylistically, it’s complete with a figurehead of the Norse goddess of love, fertility, gold and war — which bears an uncanny resemblance to Sanchez.
Along with the main ship, Bezos also owns a “smaller” $75 million yacht, Abeona, which shadows his bigger boat.
‘Legitimate buzz’ around Jeff Bezos buying Celtics, Bill Simmons says

The Celtics search for a new owner is drawing interest from one of the wealthiest individuals in the world according to a new report. There is some buzz swirling that Amazon owner Jeff Bezos will be one of the top suitors for the Celtics franchise per Bill Simmons of the Ringer.
“In the last few days there’s been some I think legitimate buzz about Jeff Bezos buying the Celtics, and I think it’s real. I think he’s gonna be one of the suitors,” Simmons said on his podcast Monday. “Which got me thinking, Jeff Bezos when he’s looking at the Celtics, what is he seeing? What does he want? And I think the only way it makes sense is that it’s one of the crown jewel franchises. That’s why you get it. To him, it would be no different than if you bought this famous gigantic $300 million yacht but I think it’s real that he’s potentially in the mix for this.”
Bezos is currently the second-wealthiest person in the world according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, worth roughly $200 billion. Bezos reportedly showed interest in purchasing the Washington Commanders last year but was outbid by Josh Harris and his ownership group for $6.05 billion according to the Financial Times.
Simmons also speculates on his podcast that the NBA is hoping for a record purchase price for the Celtics due to the impact it could have on potential expansion during the upcoming decade.
“The league wants $6 billion for the Celtics (sale),” Simmons said. “They don’t own their arena. It’s a crazy price but they are probably going to get it. There’s that. They want the $6 billion because they want expansion teams in Seattle and Vegas. They want to get $6 billion a piece for the two franchises for expansion, which would mean a check for $400 million dollars for all 30 NBA owners.
“The Grousbeck family, the dad (Irv Grousbeck) is driving the sale. He’s 90, he’s a legend. He’s going to 25 times what he paid for the team. He just wants the highest price. He doesn’t care (about the local guys). He wants the biggest price he can possibly get.”
The Celtics hired a pair of banks (JPMorgan and BDT & MSD Partners) earlier this month to serve as advisors during the bidding process which is expected to be finalized during the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Current Celtics minority owner Stephen Pagliuca has already expressed his interest in purchasing the team and the New York Post reported earlier this month that the Fenway Sports Group and RedBird Capital are also considering bids.
Grousbeck’s ownership group is putting up 51 percent of the team for sale immediately with the rest of the deal set to close in 2028. Team governor Wyc Grousbeck has also said his preference is to remain the team’s governor through 2028 before the full sale closes.
