 Whether it’s building the world’s fastest racing yachts, a performance luxury yacht, a submarine to explore the Mariana Trench, a specialised component for a Formula One racing team, or developing solutions for architects, scientists and defence organisations, McConaghy has a proven track record of delivering on complex composite projects. McConaghy boats was founded by John McConaghy in 1967, building 12, 16, and 18 foot skiffs, Tornado and A-class catamarans, moths and other high performance dinghies. Early boats were built of plywood, quickly after McConaghy began engineering and perfecting the vacuum formed foam sandwich, fibreglass / Kevlar construction method, which proved an immediate success.

As the company’s reputation grew, so did McConaghy's research and development into pre-preg composite techniques earning them a reputation as the best in the business and making the McConaghy name synonymous with light, strong and stiff laminated structures.

In the year 2000, long term McConaghy employees, Jono Morris and Mark Evans embraced the opportunity to take over the company from founder John McConaghy and long time business partner Steve Moxham. Since that time, the company has continued to pursue a very conservative financial strategy while also diversifying to extend its revenue base, a strategy that has seen it triple in size in the past decade.

n 2006, the company expanded and opened a 2,500 square meter facility in China which has since grown to 10,000m2 producing yachts ranging from Mach 2 foiling moths and the Olympic Class Elliott 6m, to Volvo 70 and America's Cup racers, luxury custom motor yachts and a whole range of industrial solutions and products including hovercrafts and their technically challenging carbon fibre propellers. ​ With manufacturing bases in Australia and China, McConaghy now deploys its wealth of talent across a number of different divisions, extending the strong commercial platform that has allowed it to defy industry trends and continues to thrive even in the toughest economic conditions.

The company was further strengthened in early 2014 with the signing of an investment agreement with Hong Kong based Tiger Group Investments, a prominent commercial marine company led by keen yachtsman Graham Porter. The new partnership with Tiger Group provides capital for investment in state of the art facilities, machinery and equipment at McConaghy’s operations in China and Sydney.

In 2014 McConaghy expanded its operation to New Zealand securing key engineering design and management personnel who provide detailed design and project management support to the McConaghy Group.

McConaghy is privately owned by Mark Evans and Tiger Group Investments the group has no debt, and owns all of its equipment. The company currently employs 200+ staff and operates from facilities in Australia, China and Hong Kong.

Infiniti Yachts and McConaghy Boats introduce 32m sailing yacht Infiniti 105

Infiniti Yachts and McConaghy Boats have teamed up to introduce a new, 32-metre sailing model called the Infiniti 105. The first five hulls will be available for sale with Northrop & Johnson 's Sean McCarter, with delivery on the first scheduled for 2025.

According to the shipyard, the Infiniti 105 will have "greater performance and comfort than any comparable yacht" and "reduced heeling and pitching", thanks to its Dynamic Stability Systems (DSS) foil.

The yacht will be constructed to DNV class in pre-preg carbon fibre, with a combination of foam and Nomex cores cured under vacuum to ensure a lightweight, stiff structure.

There are two bow options available: a reverse bow for a "race-orientated and progressive feel" and a traditional, vertical bow. There is also room for customisation in the layout (including arrangements suited to cruising or competing) and a customised sail plan if required. The default sail plan includes a self-tacking headsail and captive-controlled mainsheet to ensure "that sailing does not require an army of crew".

Accommodation is for up to six guests across three cabins, including an owner's cabin positioned forward. Design is by naval architect Hugh Welbourn (a pioneer of DSS) with interior by Design Unlimited . Renderings reveal a contemporary, monochromatic design proposal, with the main saloon positioned below the glass superstructure for a "dramatic influx" of natural light.

The Infiniti 105 also comes with the option of a hydraulic lifting keel, improving performance and allowing access into shallower anchorages and ports. The draught range is between 5.6 to 3.6 metres, although this could be increased for a "more performance-orientated evolution".

This follows the reveal of McConaghy Boats' flagship multihull, the MC115.

The MC55 might be the smallest multihull in the McConaghy range, but this cat is no kitten. The MC55 not only benefits from McConaghy’s vast experience building performance boats but also from a carefully considered use of carbon, that sees her precise hull forms achieve an optimum strength to weight ratio.

The MC55 has dual helm positions on the flybridge, allowing for the greatest sight lines forward as well as an elevated position that aids more difficult in-port manoeuvres – making her an ideal choice for those new to multihull cruising.

There are two accommodation layouts to choose from; a four-cabin layout (all en suite) or a three-cabin layout, which allows for a large master suite, complete with private study, in the starboard hull.

The wide saloon offers a versatile and spacious living area that, with large windows running the full length of the hulls and fully retractable glass doors to aft, is exceptionally light and provides fantastic views. The galley is arranged open-plan to this area, which creates an apartment-like feel and is particularly well suited to socialising and family living.
