The building production of Nordhavn explorer yacht, the N120, remains on schedule and these new renderings offer a glimpse of the nearly finished motor yacht. The explorer superyacht measures a shade over 120 feet overall or 36.75 metres in length .

Swift progress has been made on construction of the Nordhavn 120 t expedition/explorer superyacht, and just-released renderings reveal the classic lines and opulent detail the finished hull number one will offer her new owners. At 120 feet, this super-yacht is the biggest project for Pacific Asian Enterprises, Inc. (PAE), manufacturer of the Nordhavn line.

Production continues on schedule at Nordhavn’s partner factory South Coast Marine in Xiamen, China. Currently, the hull and deck are joined while the engine beds are prepared and ready for installation of the main engines (twin MTU 8V 2000 M72 rated 965HP @ 2250RPM). Delivery is slated for mid-2012.

“This boat is really going to grab the attention of those who are in the 120-foot market,” noted Trever Smith, who oversees the 120 project for Nordhavn.

The brand’s heritage is certainly reflected in the new largest luxury flagship of the fleet, punctuated by the unmistakable expedition style Nordhavns are known for.

Yacht interior designer Destry Darr has been commissioned to develop a high-end custom interior for hull one. The look will be simple and elegant yet contemporary in its styling. African cherry has been selected as the primary hardwood to be used throughout.

The N120 yacht becomes the queen of Nordhavn’s fleet of 16 ocean expedition yachts with the smallest starting at 40-feet in length. PAE staff members and guests took an N40 around the world in 2001 in a fast trouble-free 6 months. This same commitment to true offshore performance and safety is built into every Nordhavn.

Another trait the N120 yacht shares with its smaller siblings is an uncommonly low-carbon footprint in terms of fuel usage. The N120’s fuel-efficient diesel engines and full-displacement hull come together to give an owner worldwide transoceanic range without unnecessarily fouling the environment. “While fuel consumption may not be a major concern for those fortunate enough to own an N120, a smaller carbon footprint and total luxury appointments have proven appeal to the yachting community,” says Nordhavn President Dan Streech.

In true super-yacht fashion, the N120 motor yacht will be customized to the owner’s chosen independent interior designer’s specifications.

At a length of 120 feet, 7 inches (36.75m), a beam of 27 feet, 11 inches (8.51m) and a draft of 9 feet (2.74 m), the N120 is designed to fit in a marina anchorage. She is ABS-classed and designed and built to comply with any international classification. The N120 will be sea-trialled and commissioned at the factory in the presence of its owner’s crew, who will then deliver it on its own bottom at a cruising speed of about 12 knots.

The 120-foot (36.75m) MY AURORA is now for sale with Northrop & Johnson Yacht Brokers Sean Doyle and Wes Sanford . The explorer yacht is asking $12,900,000.

MY AURORA is the ideal platform for those wanting the ability to cruise anywhere in the world safely and in the utmost comfort. The luxury superyacht showcases an immense interior volume of 414 gross tons. MY AURORA features an elegant interior styling complemented by large windows, which enhances the feeling of space. Walk inside the new Nordhavn 80 expedition yacht designed by her owner

There has been much fanfare surrounding Nordhavn ’s latest addition to its range of ocean explorers. Filling a sought-after spot between the US-based builder’s smaller N76 and much larger N86 models, it is easy to see why.

“We really wanted to fill a void. Our 76 does not have a formal crew arrangement and you have a lot of people who want crew but don’t want to jump to our 86. This gives them the option to bring a crew and not take up a guest cabin,” explains Pacific Asian Enterprises (PAE)'s Chief of Design, Jeff Leishman.

The Nordhavn 80 has an impressive beam of 7.11 metres and four decks that extend to over 24 metres. But it is not just her liberal dimensions and robust exterior that catch the eye. In a newly-released virtual walkthrough, we get a closer glimpse at the Nordhavn 80 in Florida showing off her interiors developed by both her buyer and producers Pacific Asian Enterprises.

Though the design of any future units may be altered at the discretion of any would-be owner, the interiors featured on the first Nordhavn 80’s recent walkthrough showcase a family-friendly aesthetic.

Those interiors are ones executed in a more traditional style with a palette of dark woods and neutral furnishings featured alongside various patterned decorations. Colour schemes champion creams with pastel accents, which are dotted throughout; as are darker, earthier fabrics paired in complementary combinations of browns, peaches and nudes. Wooden panels add depth and texture to cabins and the yacht’s saloon, and marble walling in the boat’s bathrooms provide open, elegant spaces, in even the most intimate corners of the first Nordhavn 80.

In full, the yacht is home to three large guest cabins on the lower deck alongside a laundry room, an owner’s cabin with a king-size bed on the main deck and a spacious main saloon and formal dining room connected to a galley, and an upper deck saloon adjacent to the wheelhouse. On the flybridge, guests will find a hot tub with a tender and crane located on the bridge deck. This marks an impressive selection of spaces for a yacht that also has the technical prowess and storage areas crucial for long-range cruising.

Powered by twin 375hp John Deere engines, the Nordhavn 80 is also available in a selection of alternative layout options, including a captain’s cabin behind the bridge or upper-level owner’s suite behind the bridge in lieu of the sky lounge. “We have the capability of doing anything from a more traditional to more modern look and create what the buyer wants,” Leishman explained, adding that interiors can be visualised at PAE’s office using VR goggles for a realistic view of what the finished yacht will look like.

Family clings to hope of air pocket in sunken superyacht as debris hampers search

PORTICELLO, Sicily — Divers searching for six missing people from a superyacht which sank off the coast of Sicily told NBC News Wednesday that debris inside the vessel, as well as its depth, were making their job difficult.  

As hopes of finding anyone alive dwindled, the divers said that they had managed to force open one of the Bayesian’s access doors but access to the cabins where people could be trapped was being hampered by detritus. 

The divers, who were not authorized to speak publicly, added that the depth of the wreck meant they were left with only 10 minutes to search the 184-foot yacht once they reached it. Then they had to return to the surface, they said. 

On Wednesday, the dock where they set off from was swarming with vehicles, boats and rescuers. Nearby tourists, reporters and photographers have gathered, eager for news. Helicopters occasionally fly over the area.  

British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and five of the 22 other people who were aboard the yacht remain unaccounted for and are believed to be trapped in the Bayesian’s hull, nearly 170 feet underwater.

Lynch's 18-year-old daughter, Hannah; Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife, Judy; and Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife, Neda, are also missing. 

Officials confirmed Monday that at least one person, the ship’s cook, had died. 

Rescuers said Tuesday that there might be people trapped inside the cabins, especially considering the timing of the storm, but that they had so far been unable to check through the ship’s portholes.

“The operations are long and complex,” Italy’s national fire department, whose diving teams have been participating in the search, said on X . 

Italy's coast guard also said Tuesday that divers were also using a remotely-operated underwater vehicle to aid in the search.

The Bayesian is owned by a firm linked to Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, who was one of the 15 people rescued Monday after it capsized near Sicily’s main city of Palermo in what Italian officials called a “violent storm.” 

Built by Italian shipbuilder Perini Navi in 2008, the U.K.-registered Bayesian could carry 12 guests and a crew of up to 10, according to online specialist yacht sites. Its nearly 250-foot mast is the tallest aluminum sailing mast in the world, according to CharterWorld Luxury Yacht Charters.  

Lynch, who was regularly described in U.K. media as “Britain’s Bill Gates,” was acquitted by a San Francisco jury of fraud charges stemming from the 2011 sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard for $11 billion.

Prosecutors alleged that Lynch and Autonomy’s vice president for finance, Stephen Chamberlain, had padded the firm’s finances ahead of the sale. Lynch’s lawyers argued that HP was so eager to acquire Autonomy that it failed to adequately check the books .

The Mediterranean sailing vacation was designed to be a celebration for Lynch, who brought Morvillo, one of his U.S. lawyers and Bloomer, who testified in his defense, on the trip.

Bloomer’s twin brother, Jeremy, told the BBC on Tuesday the family was “coping the best we can” and he was hopeful there might still be air pockets inside the hull. 

Chamberlain was not aboard the Bayesian.

In what appears to be a tragic coincidence, a car struck and killed Chamberlain on Saturday as he was jogging in a village about 68 miles north of London, local police said.
