PowerBoat GuideIt's interesting to note that the Hatteras 48 MY was built on a "dual mode" semi-displacement hull - designed for efficient low-speed operation while retaining planning-speed abilities with larger engines (Fuel-efficiency was a serious marketing tool in the early 1980's) Showing a slightly trawler-style profile, the 48 MY was heavily built on a solid fiberglass hull with shallow deadrise aft and a long keel for stability. Her standard three-stateroom interior is arranged with two-staterooms aft of the salon, three heads, (but only on stall shower). Outside, the spacious aft deck is the largest found in a boat this size - the dimensions exceed those of the salon. The 425-hp 6V92s will cruise around 16 knots and reach 18-19 knots wide open.

48' hatteras vessel walkthrough.

From the swimplatform, you enter the hardtop covered aftdeck through the transom gate. You then enter the salon through a teak & glass door. Once inside the salon, you will find 2 chairs, storage/entertainment cabinetry and 2 stools and a countertop port aft, sofa and end cabinet to starboard, galley port forward and storage cabinetry starboard forward. Step up into the raised pilothouse and you will find a berth and wrap-around settee aft, side deck access doors on each side, full helm forward and steps to the staterooms starboard forward. Engine room access is via the lazarrette or a salon sole hatch.

The headroom in the salon is 6'5", 6'2" in the master stateroom, 6'4" in the master stateroom shower, 6'6" in the guest stateroom, 6'3" in the guest shower, 6'7" in the pilothouse, 6'8" on the flybridge, 7'5" on the aftdeck. The master stateroom berth is 6'3" long and the guest berths are 6'9" long. The pilothouse berth is 6'7" long.

The height from the waterline to the top of the bimini is 18'6" and 15'6" to the top of the flybridge windscreen, which is the lowest attainable height.

Black Powder offers a full-beam master stateroom amidships with a queen size berth and ensuite head with tub/shower and a guest stateroom forward with a v-berth. The guest head with enclosed shower is starboard aft of the stateroom. There is also a single berth above and aft of the pilothouse settee and the salon sofa converts into a queen size berth..

Manual Bilge Pump 

Entering Remedy from the swim platform to the spacious cockpit which allows for lounging or fishing with three built-in rodholders. You can also fuel up on either side in the cockpit or on the port side of the main deck. Proceeding up three steps leads you into the enclosed lower helm with a large entertaining area. You have the option to remove the isinglass or roll-up for added comfort on those breezy days. � Forward is the helm station with two newly re-upholstered swivel chairs and a padded bench behind that stows the safety equipment. Mounted overhead is a six rod holder. The helm station has a new Garmin autopilot, VHF along with a reconfigured control panel, two Caframo fans and UBS ports. She has also had new windshields, wipers, motors and covers all replaced within the last year.� 

Access to the bow is through the wing doors on either starboard or port side. The power cord inlets, fuel, water, and waste fills are located on the port side. Also, on the port side is the new Marquis 7 step gangway. The deck has been newly painted with Awlgrip. The bow pulpit has an electric windlass and a Fortress FX-37 anchor. The bow includes two deck boxes, fenders, bow seat cushions, spotlight and a Magma grill.

From the lower helm, walk up six step to the flybridge. There are two helm seats and a full enclosure protecting the helm station and re-upholsetered bench seat located forward. In the cabinet to port of the controls houses the VHF, Garmin autopilot and search light controller. � 

From the lower helm and down three steps leads you into the spacious salon with large windows which allow for plenty of natural sunlight and create the feeling of a larger room. The windows have new sunscreen covers for added shade and privacy when needed. � Directly down the stairs is a magazine rack and the electrical A/C & D/C panel on the port side. Forward is the wetbar with a small SS sink and below is a storage cabinet and Norcold mini fridge. Across the room is the seating area with a love seat, two chairs and small table. � A new 16,000 Btu self- contained MarinAire a/c unit has been installed inside the cabinet. Below the newly installed carpet are the access panels for the engine room.

Forward of the salon and down three steps is the updated galley. Behind the steps is an access door to the engine room. The starboard side has the Vitrifrigo refrigerator, four storage shelves, new countertop with built-in trash bin, sink and backsplash. � Kenmore four burner stove and above is the Black & Decker microwave oven. There is ample storage throughout for all your kitchen essentials.� 

Port of the galley is the guest head with a sink and large shower stall. New plumbing for the new swivel magnetic shower head and electric freshwater toilet. Ample storage with the two medicine cabinets and storage below the countertop.� 

Moving forwarding into the guest stateroom are the two bunks on the port side with reading lamps. Dresser drawers on the starboard side and a full length closet with mirror. Good ventilation provided with the large overhead hatch.� 

Aft of the salon is the head with access from the hallway or master stateroom. It includes a sink with a single mirrored medicine cabinet, shower stall and new electric freshwater Jabsco toilet.� 

Aft is the full beam master stateroom with two double berths on outboard sides with reading lamps. Centered is the dresser drawers. Forward of the starboard berth is the large vanity/ office desk and closet. A new 16,000 Btu self-contained a/c unit has been installed.�

Northern Lights generator (approximately 2080 hours) in sound enclosure and with remote start and gauges.

Solid fiberglass construction of the well-known and respected J Hargrave hull design. This is the last of 65 total that were built.

Measurements including tank capacities quoted in this listing are based on statements of the owner and published specifications. Waterline Boats and Boatshed have not independently verified the capacities listed.

Accommodation

The Hatteras 48 Yachtfisher by J. Hargrave was and is a true classic. With a large foredeck and wide side decks that terminate aft at the wing doors for safe passage to an enclosed and roomy aft deck. The lower helm station, featuring two seats, is located just forward of the aft deck (all on the same level). A stainless steel and teak ladder leads from the fishing cockpit to the flybridge that features a dual helm station seat and a forward bench seat for guests. Belowdecks, proceeding from fore to aft is the forward stateroom with upper and lower bunks and desk area. A separate full size head and shower is located to port. The galley is next with full-sized appliances. A stairway with three steps leads to the large spacious main salon with large windows providing a bright and livable area. Aft and down three steps from the salon is the master stateroom with queen bed to starboard and a full bed to port. Natural light baths the master stateroom. Additionally just forward of the master stateroom is a guest stateroom to starboard featuring over and under bunks. A full size head and shower is located to port.

The cockpit is large and features a custom cabinet that adds a work-space counter, and two cabinets. One cabinet houses the trash compactor and the other is additional storage space. The cockpit features a transom door with swim platform located aft.

An absolute "must see" if you are in the market for a roomy and well-constructed fiberglass yacht of this vintage. The Hatteras name carries respect for good reason, and this is an excellent example.

Originally designed to provide the spaciousness and comfort of a motor yacht with sport fishing capability. This design concept has remained popular because it offers the interior space of a flush deck or sundeck design with the access and other functional benefits of a cockpit. This could be a great live-aboard! The large salon is open and bright and creates a comfortable living area. Mahogany interior is in outstanding condition. Detroit diesels start immediately and the boat shows every indication of good continuing care and maintenance.

As Health forces sale, the recent price reduction makes this boat a "steal" Call to arrange an appointment to inspect before this one gets away!

Guys I know a few on here own this model. I am looking at purchasing one and taking it to Costa Rica where I now reside. The boat is in Florida. How do you like the boat and can you give me some pros and cons on this make. The one I'm looking at has the 8v71n motors. Thanks

Pros and cons on it's make??? It's a Hatteras!!! If it's a nice one...even better! There is one thing America built better than any one in the world...Yachts. Hatteras, Tiara, Bertram, Viking. The kind of quality that more people need to understand. Quality is also important when you need service work done. It costs less to fix a quality boat, because the quality designers put just as much emphasis on function and servicability, as style. On average, it costs 30% more to repair the same item on a cheaper make boat. Most buyers don't learn this one until it's to late. Buy the Hatteras. You'll be glad you did...later.

Nose, Yes, I still own the second love of my life. SO many things went into the decision. I've never owed a boat I love and enjoy and appreciate as much as Glittering Image. I think you HAVE TO have that kind of passion to own a classic Hatteras in today's world, especially given the time and money needed to care for and use them. The fishing is good in Costa Rica and I figured this model would be good for dual use fish/party but was hoping to hear from some of you that have this model. Thanks
