Catamaran rental in the bahamas.

Welcome to the beautiful Bahamas , a tropical paradise known for its turquoise waters and breathtaking scenery. If you're looking for a unique way to explore this stunning archipelago, why not consider renting a catamaran?

Sailing in The Bahamas is a truly magical experience, and catamarans are the perfect boats for exploring the many islands and cays. With their shallow draft, catamarans can access remote anchorages and quiet bays that are off-limits to larger boats. Plus, the stable platform of a catamaran makes it easy to relax and enjoy the stunning scenery as you cruise through the clear waters.

With a catamaran charter , you have the freedom to explore the islands at your own pace. You can anchor in a new location every night or spend several days in one place, depending on your preferences. There are few things in life as magical as a sailing vacation in the Bahamas. The turquoise waters, white sand beaches, and stunning sunsets are truly breathtaking. And what could be more relaxing than spending your days cruising around on a beautiful catamaran?

If you're thinking about renting a boat in the Bahamas, here are a few things you should know. Firstly, the Bahamas is an archipelago of over 700 islands, so there are plenty of territories to explore. And with average temperatures hovering around 80 degrees Fahrenheit, it's a great destination year-round.

One of the best things about chartering a boat in the Bahamas is that you can tailor your trip to your own preferences. Whether you want to spend your days fishing, swimming, snorkeling, or just relaxing on the deck with a good book, you can do it all at your own pace. There are also many opportunities for adventure, like exploring uninhabited islands or venturing into caves.

If you're looking for a truly unique and memorable vacation, chartering a catamaran in the Bahamas is a great option. You'll create lifetime memories and have an experience you'll never forget.

Where to sail in the Bahamas?

There is no better way to spend your vacation than sailing around the beautiful islands of the Bahamas on a catamaran. The turquoise waters and white sand beaches are calling your name!

Here are some of the best places to sail with a catamaran in the Bahamas:

  • The Exumas - This chain of islands is known for its stunning beaches, coves, and crystal-clear waters. It's the perfect place to anchor your catamaran and enjoy some time swimming, sunbathing, and exploring.
  • Eleuthera - This island is home to some of the most beautiful pink sand beaches in the world. It's a perfect place to relax and enjoy the views.
  • Cat Island - This island is named after its abundance of cats (of course!). It's a great place to sail if you're looking for peace and quiet, as it's one of the lesser-known islands in the Bahamas.
  • Nassau - The capital city of the Bahamas, Nassau is a vibrant and lively place to sail. There's plenty to see and do, from exploring the markets to enjoying the nightlife.
  • Abaco Islands - The Abaco Islands are a popular sailing destination for their sheltered coves and outstanding sailing conditions. They're also home to some of the best bonefishing in the world!

How much does it cost to rent a catamaran in the Bahamas?

There's nothing quite like a Bahamas vacation. The bright blue waters, the white sand beaches, and the endless sunshine make it a perfect destination for a boat charter. And with so many options available, it's easy to find a catamaran that fits your budget.

Of course, there are a few factors that will affect the price of your rental. The size of the boat, the length of your stay, and the number of people in your party all play a role in determining the cost. On average, a rental in the Bahamas costs approximately $1,490 per day or $10,430 per week, accommodating an average of 10 guests aboard the boat. With careful planning and an understanding of what you want, it's possible to find a catamaran rental that won't break the bank.

The harbors in the Bahamas

The Bahamas offer some of the most beautiful cruising grounds in the Caribbean, and a catamaran charter is a perfect way to explore them. From bustling harbors and marinas to remote coves and bays, there is something for everyone when chartering a catamaran in the Bahamas.

  • Marsh Harbour : Located in the Abacos, Marsh Harbour is one of the most popular ports of call for a catamaran charter in the Bahamas. Home to many local restaurants, bars, and shops, this vibrant harbor has plenty to keep you busy while you’re here. With its deep waters and sheltered bays, it’s also an ideal spot for sailing, fishing, or simply relaxing.
  • Nassau : Nassau is one of the most famous cruise ports in the Caribbean. It’s home to many luxury resorts and casinos, as well as several excellent marinas that can accommodate your catamaran charter. The main marina located here is Nassau Yacht Haven Marina which offers slips with electricity and water hookups as well as all kinds of amenities like shops, restaurants, bars, and more.
  • Freeport : Freeport on Grand Bahama Island is another must-see port of call on your catamaran charter adventure in the Bahamas. With its palm-lined beaches, crystal clear waters, and vibrant culture, it makes for an unforgettable experience. Moody's Marina provides great facilities for both short-term visits and long-term stays with full-service amenities including laundry services and fuel docks.
  • Andros Town : Andros Town on Andros Island is a hidden gem within the Bahamas archipelago that should not be missed during your catamaran charter vacation here. Here you will find some of the best fishing spots in all of the Caribbean, along with spectacular coral gardens just offshore that you can explore by kayak or paddleboard from your boat. Andros Town Marina provides slips with electricity hookups as well as access to all kinds of supplies including fuel and food items.

No matter where you choose to dock during your catamaran charter vacation in the Bahamas, you will be sure to have a remarkable time! Whether it’s exploring bustling harbors or discovering secluded coves, there are so many wonderful places to visit when sailing around these beautiful islands!

Renting a catamaran with or without a skipper

Renting a boat in the Bahamas can be a wonderful experience, and it can be done with or without a skipper. Depending on your needs, one option may be more suitable than the other. To make sure you make the right decision, let’s look at the benefits of both options.

If you choose to rent with a skipper, you will be able to enjoy some of the best sailing spots in the Bahamas without having to worry about navigation and safety. A qualified and experienced captain will oversee operating the vessel while you simply relax and take in all that this stunning area has to offer. You can also enjoy all sorts of water sports like snorkeling, fishing, and kayaking which wouldn’t be possible without a skipper on board.

On the other hand, if you opt for a bareboat charter, you will have full control over your trip and there is no need for a skipper. This allows for more freedom when it comes to planning and scheduling activities, as well as destinations. You will also get to experience sailing yourself as you navigate around the islands. Plus, it is often more affordable compared to renting with a skipper due to lower costs associated with operating the boat.

Whether you decide to rent with or without a skipper in the Bahamas, both options have their own unique advantages that can help make your trip unforgettable. Just remember to choose what works best for you based on your skill level and budget!

When is the best time to go?

Exploring the Bahamas is a dream come true for many, and sailing is one of the best ways to do it. But what is the best time to go? The answer depends on your specific needs, but if you’re looking for the ideal time to sail in the Bahamas, then late spring or early fall is your best bet.

From late April through May and again from September through October, temperatures are mild, ranging from 75 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and 65–75 degrees Fahrenheit at night. Rainfall is also low at this time of year, making for calm seas and good sailing conditions. Plus, wind speeds tend to be steady and consistent throughout these months — perfect for experienced sailors who want an enjoyable cruise.

How much does it cost to rent a catamaran in the Bahamas?

When chartering a catamaran in the Bahamas, the prices will vary depending on a lot of factors. First, depending on when you sail, the season will dictate the price. The Bahamas follow the typical sailing season of the Caribbean traditionally having the high season from December to April. Even though some people will sail year round, it is important to keep in mind that the waters outside of this time will not be as calm and it is even more important to avoid hurricane season.

On average, if you plan on hiring a catamaran during the high season, you can expect to pay around 6,000 euros a week and 3,000 to 4,000 outside of December to March. The prices will of course vary depending on the size of the boat, the amenities and whether you’ll need a skipper. You can also hire a sailboat in the Bahamas and create an itinerary to sail around.

Do you need a license to rent a catamaran in the Bahamas?

In the Bahamas, a license is not specifically requested, but you will have to show a proper resume highlighting your previous experience and qualifications. Since the area is windier with currents, you’ll have to showcase experience with the type of boat you would like to rent. If you do not possess experience with a catamaran, you can always opt to hire the catamaran with an experienced skipper that will take care of everything.

What's in a name, a kittiwake is....

The catamaran has a special name that reflects its seagoing character.

According to Wikipedia, kittiwakes are a seabird species in the gull family Laridae. The name is derived from its call, a shrill ‘kittee-wa-aaake, kitte-wa-aaake’.

They have a white head and body, grey back, grey wings tipped with solid black, and a yellow bill. They can have either black or red legs.

In contrast to the dappled chicks of other gull species, kittiwake chicks are downy and white since they are under relatively little threat of predation, as the nests are on extremely steep cliffs. Unlike other gull chicks which wander around as soon as they can walk, kittiwake chicks instinctively sit still in the nest to avoid falling off.

Kittiwakes are coastal breeding birds ranging in the North Pacific, North Atlantic, and Arctic oceans. They are the only gull species that are exclusively cliff-nesting.

Guest Review:

“My husband and I, along with two friends, decided to charter Kittiwake and sail the Exumas. I can say without reservation it was one of the most enjoyable and restorative vacations we’ve ever taken. The new boat was ultra-comfortable and spacious, with plenty of places to curl up and read or watch the mind-blowing scenery unfold. And Kittiwake’s many amenities provided a luxurious touch. Most importantly, though, was the crew. From the moment we came onboard, the Captain and Chef took care of us in every respect. Their professionalism and commitment to our enjoyment never ceased to impress us.

There’s so much more I could say about this trip. Five out of five stars. It would be impossible to place a value on how much we loved it. We’ll be back.”  ~ Dave L. and Stuart M.

Bahamas Catamaran Charters – The Advantages

Here are the reasons why you should choose a crewed catamaran for your sailing vacation in the Bahamas:

Catamarans have a shallow draft

This allows access to more shallow harbors, bays, and coves that a motor yacht or a monohull would not be able to access. A crewed catamaran charter will get you closer to the beaches, reefs, capes, and other areas where waters are more shallow. Because of the shallow draft, catamarans have more anchoring options.

Catamarans have large, wide deck areas

Catamarans have an optimal layout with lounging and living areas on top, providing guests with spectacular panoramic views. There is also less space between decks, which means you won’t have to climb tall flights of stairs. The living and lounging spaces, both indoors and outdoors, are much larger. This makes entertaining a breeze.

Catamaran rentals offer more privacy

Finding your own little oasis for a moment of solitude on a catamaran is easy since there is ample deck space. Privacy is one of the reasons many choose a catamaran charter since the layout has sleeping quarters located in the hulls, keeping them separate from the common areas.

Catamaran charters are known for safety and stability

Catamarans are very stable both when at anchor and while underway. They don’t roll because of a dual hull structure, keeping the deck fairly level, and they have natural buoyancy. They also tend to handle rough waters more efficiently, and watertight compartments allow a catamaran to stay afloat even if a hull is pierced. Catamarans are a great choice for families or those who are new to the charter world because of reduced seasickness and overall safer travel experience.

Catamarans offer a wide selection of water toys and activities

Most catamaran rentals come with water toys, sports, and other activities that guests of all ages can enjoy. Scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding are just some of the fun a catamaran can offer. Some have hot tubs on the deck. Trampolines are also a bonus on a catamaran.  When not in the water or exploring one of the Exumas islands and cays, take advantage of the charter’s entertainment options, like movie libraries, video game systems, or board games.

Catamaran charters are cheaper than motor yacht charters

Catamarans have lower operating costs, making them a more affordable option than a motor yacht charter. When you begin the booking process, let your charter broker know your budget, and they will match you to the perfect crewed catamaran. Bahamas catamaran charters are also a more affordable option than taking your group to a luxury resort. Since you’re not competing with hundreds of other guests for the attention of the staff, your charter crew can provide you with a five-star, VIP experience.

Catamarans are family-friendly

There are many factors that make catamarans the best choice for family sailing vacations. When booking, select a crew that has experience working with children. Your kids will remember a captain that shows them how the boat works, and crews that set up theme nights or treasure hunts. The safety and stability of a catamaran’s construction are also ideal for families – some of the boats offer additional features like baby gates, safety nets around the decks, and pocket doors on the stairwells. The layout of the decks and the location of the cabins allow you to be close to the children at all times. Finally, catamarans provide a selection of water sports, inflatable toys, life jackets, and other gear specifically for children.

Catamaran Charter in the Bahamas

If you're looking for a unique and exciting way to explore the waters of the Bahamas , consider renting a catamaran. Catamarans offer a range of advantages over other types of boats, making them an ideal choice for those seeking a comfortable and enjoyable vacation experience.

One of the primary advantages of catamarans is their stability. Catamarans have two hulls instead of one, which provides greater stability and makes them less susceptible to rolling and pitching. This makes them an excellent choice for those who are prone to seasickness or who want to enjoy a smooth and comfortable ride on the water.

Catamarans also offer a spacious and comfortable living space. With their wide decks and open floor plans, catamarans provide ample room for relaxing, dining, and entertaining. You'll have plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the stunning scenery of the Bahamas.

Another advantage of sailing catamarans is their versatility. Catamarans can navigate in shallow waters, allowing you to explore the many cays and secluded bays of the Bahamas. You can anchor in quiet spots and enjoy swimming, snorkeling, and fishing, or sail to nearby islands and towns and experience the local culture and cuisine.

Renting a sailing catamaran in the Bahamas is also more affordable than you might think. With a range of boat rental options available, you can choose a catamaran that suits your preferences and budget. You can opt for a bareboat charter, where you'll be able to sail the yacht on your own, or a crewed charter, where you'll have a professional crew to cater to your needs.

Overall, renting a catamaran in the Bahamas is an excellent way to experience the beauty and tranquility of this tropical paradise. With their stability, spaciousness, versatility, and affordability, sailing catamarans offer a unique and unforgettable vacation experience. Book your yacht charter in the Bahamas today!

What Choose

Sailing boat or Catamaran, what to sail in Bahamas

Choosing between a sailing boat and a catamaran for your Bahamian adventure with Yachting.Rent? Both offer distinct advantages and experiences, tailored to your sailing preferences and comfort requirements.

Sailing boats, often the choice for traditionalists, provide an authentic, dynamic sailing experience. Their deep keel makes them ideal for navigating the deeper waters around the Bahamian islands. They are typically more fuel-efficient and handle better upwind, providing an exciting, hands-on sailing experience.

In contrast, catamarans, with their dual-hull design, offer stability and ample space, making them a popular choice among families and large groups. Their shallow draft is perfect for exploring the Bahamas’ shallow waters and secluded coves. With expansive decks and larger living areas, catamarans are well-suited for leisurely cruising and anchoring near picturesque beaches.

At Yachting.Rent, our diverse fleet of sailing boats and catamarans are all meticulously maintained and equipped with modern amenities and safety features. Our expert team is on hand to guide you in choosing the right vessel for your Bahamian adventure, ensuring a memorable journey on the breathtaking Bahamian waters. Bahamas Yacht Charter

A Bahamas yacht charter promises guests a slice of tropical perfection and unparalleled escapism. The idyllic chain of islands that form the Bahamas provides yacht charter guests with a decadent cocktail of sun-drenched sands (even pink ones), crystalline waters teeming with marine life, and diverse topography.

Comprising more than 700 heavenly islands with precious few inhabited, the cruising grounds of the Bahamas archipelago offer a fascinating mixture of seclusion and connectedness. Expect a gloriously slower pace of life that harmonizes with the gentle tide, blended with a fiesta of blazing color and soft-calypso: an endearingly exotic charter experience.

Silhouetted by coral cays, aquamarine shallows are garlanded with glistening coves and iridescent bays are often only three or four meters deep, making the Bahamas both a perennial family favorite and a jet-setter's paradise. It's ideal territory for shallow draft yachts or catamarans, who can cozy up to seldom-visited anchorages and soak up their celestial calm, or delve deeper for an aquatic adventure.

Types of Charter Yachts in the Bahamas

Crewed motor yacht charters and luxury catamaran charters are undoubtedly the best way to discover the Bahamas.

As one of the most popular destinations for yacht charters in the Caribbean , guests have countless fleet options when it comes to a Bahamas crewed charter. If you are unsure whether to opt for a motor yacht, sailing yacht or catamaran to cruise Bahamian waters, here are some main points to consider:

Shallow Cruising Grounds

The waters all around the Bahamas are fairly shallow, often no more than 4 meters deep, and even less in some places. Therefore, yachts with shallow drafts make the ideal choice for luxury charters around this enchanting region.

Most sailing charter yachts come equipped with a retractable keel, facilitating access to the beautiful turquoise shallows, although larger sailing yachts may still find their draft too deep for some areas, even with their keel up!

To get around this, some of the larger luxury yachts drop their anchor further out into the deeper waters and use their onboard tenders to explore the area, where guests can experience the thrill of getting up close and personal with the archipelago’s astonishing marine fauna, including rays, sharks and inquisitive swimming pigs. The yachts’ tenders also enable even greater access to the Bahamas' myriad exquisite island reefs and blue lagoons.

Motor yacht charter in the Bahamas

A luxury motor yacht provides guests with a tranquil haven to uncover the startling beauty of the Bahamas. Whether you want to peacefully bronze under Bahamian rays or get out the jet skis and whizz around deserted islands, a crewed motor yacht charter in the Bahamas provides you with boundless itinerary options.

Sailing Yacht Charter in the Bahamas

Chartering a sailing yacht in the Bahamas means you can embrace all that these substantially beautiful islands have to offer. Cruising further afield to otherwise inaccessible sleepy villages with chalk-white beaches and waters suffused with a pale aqua glow is worth incorporating into any itinerary.

Catamaran Charter in the Bahamas

Given that the majority of catamarans have shallow drafts, crewed catamaran charters are a highly popular choice for Bahamas vacations. As you can cruise close to the cays, guests can savor the liberating feeling of being able to jump off-board at almost any point. Whether it's to dive amid sunken shipwrecks and admire shoals of fish that shimmy through fronds of coral in a kaleidoscope of color or to dance the night away at a private island under a blanket of stars; the choice is all yours.

How Much Does It Cost To Charter a Yacht in the Bahamas?

Bahamas yacht charters are plentiful, which means there are a vast array of motor yacht and catamaran charters to suit every type of budget. The average prices for motor and sailing yacht charters in the Bahamas are as follows;

For motor yacht rentals in Bahamas, prices can range from $42,100 to $1.47m per week, plus expenses

For luxury sailing yacht rentals in Bahamas, prices can go from $30,000 to $343,476 weekly, plus expenses

Tax for Yacht Charters in the Bahamas

What is the cost of tax for yacht charters in the Bahamas? From the 1st of July 2022, a new 10% VAT rate will be levied on the total charter fee, and is applicable to all yachts cruising in Bahamian waters. The new 10% levy does not replace the current 4% cruising fee which remains payable to the Port Department.

All yachts wishing to cruise within the archipelago must now register for VAT in the Bahamas and receive a Bahamian TIN number.

Please consult your chosen yacht charter broker who will be able to offer personalized advice on VAT and any other business for your next Bahamas yacht charter.

Foreign-Flagged Yachts in US Waters

There are strict and complicated rules governing commercial yacht charters (non-private) cruising US waters, which in general means that only US-flagged yachts or US built yachts with a coastwise endorsement can conduct yacht charters in the US. Furthermore, yachts that are available for charter are considered to be "engaging in a trade" and thus ineligible for a US cruising licence. Most luxury charter yachts are also not US duty paid.

As the majority of the charter fleet are foreign-flagged yachts, Bahamas yacht charters will likely begin outside of the US, usually in the Bahamian capital of Nassau where there is a large busy international airport.

That said, it is possible to pick-up charter guests in the US so long as the yacht's next port of call is outside of US waters. This can be a good option for those wishing to meet the boat in Florida and cruise down to the Bahamas from here.

Where Should I Begin My Yacht Charter in the Bahamas?

The vast majority of yacht charters in the Bahamas embark and disembark in the country's picturesque capital  Nassau , which is home to its best-known international ports, dotted with top-rung marinas all along its azure waters. The city is justly renowned for its throng of fine-dining options, boutiques, hip eateries, and casinos fringed by towering palm trees. Nassau is also conveniently located for cruising to the Exumas and beyond.

Atlantis Resort, Nassau

For a real respite from the crowds, it's common for yacht charter guests to embark their vessel at Marsh Harbor on the  Abaco Islands ,  where you can trace the mesmerizing string of sandy cays that can be found here. Its shores, a serene and shimmering topaz, are perfect for dropping anchor and taking the toys for a spin.

When is the Best Time to Visit the Bahamas by Yacht?

One of the great joys of choosing a Bahamas yacht charter is that its balmy climes and shallow waters make it more or less ideal to cruise all-year-round* .  But the Bahamas does have a peak season from mid-December to mid-April. The average temperatures of both Bahamian summers and winters are unsurprisingly tropical: hovering between 24-29 degrees and rarely dipping below this.

Palm tree lined beach in the Bahamas

During the summertime (from May until October), guests can expect endless sunshine and some humidity, while from November until April, the Bahamas has a slightly cooler temperature and colder waters.

*However, whilst Bahamian weather is pleasingly warm all-year the islands do fall within the hurricane belt, running from June until the end of November along the US East Coast and the Caribbean. The Western Caribbean's own hurricane season usually starts from mid-September until early November.

Nevertheless, it is worth keeping in mind that hurricanes in the Bahamas are fairly infrequent, and even less so than on the US East Coast.

Marinas in the Bahamas

It is not hyperbole to say that the Bahamas offers some of the most spectacular marinas in the world: from glamorous hotspots replete with award-winning restaurants, designer stores, and buzzing beach bars, to the exquisite barefoot luxury that emanates from the less frequented.

Marina in the Bahamas

A slew of activities is on offer here, including bonefishing, ocean fishing, dolphin watching, golfing, and snorkeling. And that's not even to mention the dizzying array of casinos, water parks, and marine reserves you can also find. Simply put, marinas in the Bahamas are simply of the finest caliber.

But which marinas are the best? Below are some charter favorites:

  • Hurricane Hole Superyacht Marina : the newly renovated marina at Paradise Landing close to the famous Atlantis Resort in Nassau offers a raft of 5-star amenities, wellness facilities and world-class retail outlets, not to mention exclusive restaurants and bars, alongside an on-site customs facility and slips catering to yachts up to 420ft (128m) LOA.
  • Treasure Cay Beach, Marina and Golf Resort (The Abacos): well-protected deep water marina, with excellent provisioning. Features an outstanding golf course, as well a spa for an extra dose of pampering. Excursions to see the delightful water-bound pigs can also be arranged here. It offers a 164-berth capacity up to 46m.
  • Green Turtle Club and Marina (The Abacos): tranquil and conveniently located to Abaco's hotspots as well as a perfect spot for beach hikes and land-based activities. Accommodates 40 berths up to 39m.
  • Atlantis Marina: iconic megayacht marina featuring a protected harbor with 63 berths up to 67m. Has an extensive number of facilities including a golf course, casino, spa, water park, and more. You can also arrange swimming with dolphins excursions here.
  • Emerald Bay Marina (The Exumas): large superyacht marina that has a berth capacity of 150 for yachts up to 79m. Within easy reach of many mesmerizing cays, including Cave Cay and Staniel Cay.
  • Palm Cay Marina (Nassau): ideal jumping point for exploring Paradise Island and the Exumas, with state-of-the-art facilities and amenities. 194 berth capacity up to 33m.
  • Highbourne Cay Marina: exclusive marina on a privately owned island, seen as the gateway to the Exumas. Accommodates up to 26 berths.

Popular Anchorages in the Bahamas

Sea turtle, coral reef and white sandy seabed. Tropical seascape with swimming turtle.

The Bahamas has jaw-dropping anchorages in abundance, flecked all along the 590-mile-long archipelago.

In the Exumas , you must cruise towards Leaf Cay to meet the colony of stocky but amiable Iguanas who call it home. You won't miss them: they'll be ready and waiting to greet you when you drop anchor. You should also pay a visit to  Staniel Cay, where the famed  Thunderball Grotto ( named after the 1965 James Bond film) is located, to see a cave illuminated by light and flourishes of angelfish. Closeby, you'll find Big Major Cay's  swimming pigs, who have a seemingly never-ending capacity for treats, and Shroud Cay's sea turtles contently floating amid a dramatic underwater backdrop. Simply put, it's a wildlife lover's paradise.

In the Abacos, head south to the isolated Great Guana Cay and  spend an afternoon snorkeling around the marine park, or alternatively, head straight to its golf course. Further north, you'll find Green Turtle Cay : where fishing boats stand charmingly in front of timber houses in a perfectly graduated shade of pastels. Swimming pigs (yes, there's even more here!) are located in nearby Noname Cay . And last but not least, bathe in the calm, warm shores of  Treasure Cay,  where you will find some of the best beaches in the world.

Elsewhere, other popular anchorages include those in  Eleuthera , an island steeped in cultural significance but manages to retain its erstwhile charm. Set towards  St. George's Cay to drink up the peaceful ambiance of Spanish Wells beach  and meander the historic  Governor's Harbor.

However, some are more conveniently located to popular yacht charter destinations than others. Here are the most popular airports for yacht charters in the Bahamas:

  • Georgetown, Great Exuma Airport : ideally located to reach the world-famous swimming pigs in the Exumas. Daily international flights are available.
  • North Eleuthera Airport: an international airport that is best for reaching the quaint Eleuthera and Harbor Island.
  • Marsh Harbor International Airport: ideal for charters commencing on the crystal clear shores of Abacos, being only 7.9km away.

Booking Advice from the Experts

We strongly recommend booking with your yacht charter broker at least three to six months in advance, as the Bahamas is a highly popular Caribbean luxury yacht charter destination. By doing so, you will increase the likelihood of securing your preferred dates and you will have a greater selection of yachts on offer to choose from.

This also ensures your broker has enough time to craft a personalized itinerary and secure a berth at a popular marina.

Local Insight

Diving in the Bahamas

  • Keep in mind that the endless sunshine from mid-December until April attracts a high number of visitors to this idyllic location, and this is when the Bahamas is usually at its busiest.
  • New Providence Island (where Nassau and the extraordinary Atlantis Resort and Marina are situated) tends to be heaving with cruise ships. If you are looking for a calmer charter, this is worth taking into consideration.
  • Weather conditions and wind strength play a crucial role in anchorage spots in the Bahamas, so plan any overnight anchorages accordingly.
  • Some anchorages can be a bit of a challenge to set: it's common for heavy grass to cover a large section of some of the better spots to drop anchor
  • Anchorages that appear to have a sandy bottom can oftentimes be just a thin layer of sand over a coral reef or rock, making it difficult to dig the anchor in. Don't be misled by them!

Most Popular Superyacht Hotspots in the Bahamas

Treasure Cay Abaco Bahamas beach

In the north of the archipelago you'll find the Abacos : widely considered to be the boating capital of the Bahamas thanks to its unique geography. Epitomising laid-back Bahamian living, an Abacos yacht charter is ideal for those in search of stillness and solitude. Soak up its subtle alchemy at the vast 2,100 marine reserve in Pelican Cay,  fringed by blossoming coral, tame sea turtles, and dancing angelfish, or explore the superb surfing opportunities at Fowl Cays . For a journey through vivid color, pass a leisurely morning in nearby  Hope Tow n, admiring crayon-hued Bahamian architecture and  Elbow Cay's candy-striped lighthouse whilst drinking in their unpretentious ambiance.

After an afternoon spent floating on a late-summer heat haze, further on to Green Turtle Cay and sip on that famous Bahamian cocktail, the Goombay Smash, by a seafront taverna as the sun casts a peachy glow. Of course, no visit to the Abacos would be complete without a trip to the acclaimed  Treasure Cay Beach : its milky white sands and cyan shallows see it routinely end up on the world's most beautiful beaches list.

pig swimming in waters, the Exumas, Bahamas

Home to 365 cays, days here could easily drift by diving off burnished rocks until the sun slowly slinks away. Life truly does revolve around the water in the Exumas, so think every watersport you could possibly imagine is a go here. Plus, it's the perfect shallow cruising ground for yacht charters, with no cruise ships in sight making it a discerning choice for those looking for repose.

Sailing towards Big Major's Cay is love at first sight for most: it's where you will find Pig Beach ,  and its utterly charming piggies gliding surprisingly effortlessly across the water. Nearby, plunge into the sea with nurse sharks at Compass Cay before ending the day sauntering along the remote  Three Sisters Beach as the sunsets. Whilst you are here, go onshore and absorb Bahamian culture to its fullest in  Georgetown.

long stretch of beach on Eleuthera, Bahamas

An Eleuthera yacht charter has come to encapsulate the island's name, which in Greek means 'freedom'. Secluded, slender, and over 100 miles long, Eleuthera is unquestionably the prettiest out of the Out Islands, fully earning its name as the Nantucket of the Caribbean. With the island's soft, salmon-colored sandy beaches and pastel-painted houses set among pineapple fields, it's hard not to become infatuated by its perfectly-packaged tropical charms.

Make sure you also visit the historic capital  Governor's Harbor  and the verdant  Hatchet Bay whilst you are cruising its unspoiled shores.

Harbour Island

stunning pink sandy beach in bahamas

Situated in the northwest of Eleuthera, Harbor Island is renowned for its astonishing Pink Sand Beach , which gets its unique rosy hue from the presence of millions of tiny crushed coral seashells. Packing a powerful punch to the senses, this seemingly endless stretch of sand which is cool-to-the-touch (and ideal for barefoot walking) extends over three miles and adored by the well-heeled. And you'll understand in an instant why when you visit.  Languid afternoons spent upon its long arc of soft sugar-textured sand, hugged by pale-blue waters and bathed in golden light will linger long in your memory.

But that's not all Harbor Island has to offer. It would be remiss not to mention Harbor Island's lively night scene, and the number of sophisticated boutiques huddled here: with Dunmore Town the ultimate go-to destination for designer wear.

Your vessel will need to have a shallow draft (no more than 4m) as Bahamas waters aren't deep. If you would like to visit the Bahamas by superyacht, it will need to have a shallow draft below 4m or a retractable keel to cruise comfortably and make the most of the idyllic anchorages found here.

Browse with ease on our site a wide-ranging selection of motor yachts, sailing yachts, and catamarans for charter in the Bahamas. Select by your chosen dates, number of guests, yacht type, features, and preferred onboard toys and we'll show you what's available.

If you decide to make an enquiry, a yacht charter broker will then contact you to provide you with a custom charter proposal based on your needs.

You can also reach out to your yacht charter broker directly, and they will be able to research for you the ideal yacht charter in the Bahamas.

Mid-December to mid-April is the Bahamas' peak season, characterized by endless sunshine and pleasingly warm waters.

Nassau is the invariably popular choice to begin a Bahamas yacht charter. Not only is the city astoundingly beautiful and replete with world-class marinas, hip boutiques, restaurants, and more, but reaching other Bahamas destinations like the Exumas is a breeze.

In most cases, a completed charter agreement and 50% of the charter fee is required as a deposit to secure your luxury yacht charter, which is payable once the contract has been signed.

The Bahamas is a highly popular yacht charter destination, which for guests means there is a yacht to suit practically every budget.

When booking, keep in mind the additional costs that aren't included in the base rate, namely tax and the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance). Typically set at 30% of the charter fee, the APA is paid in advance and covers expenses such as fuel, berthing, food,  drinks, as well as any special requests (such as for tenders that are not carried by yacht, equipment hire, etc.)

Bareboat Charter in the Bahamas

Superyacht charter in the bahamas, travel tips:.

  • The Bahamas is relatively hassle-free, with minimal red tape. All travelers, including U.S. citizens, require a passport. Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport implements TSA PreCheck, and Paradise Island facilitates pre-clearance for U.S. Customs and Immigration Services.
  • Private flight options are available through several fixed-base operators (FBO), like Jet Nassau and Odyssey Aviation. For a fee, the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism offers expedited services at the airport when flying commercial or transferring to the FBO from Nassau. You can also fly into George Town, Staniel Cay, Norman’s Cay, or Eleuthera.
  • A daily ferry runs from Fort Lauderdale to Grand Bahama Island, approximately three hours, but make sure it makes sense for your charter base location.
  • The Moorings can help organize travel, and brokers can recommend travel arrangements.
  • D’Offay recommends your broker organize transportation to the boat to ensure you get a reliable vehicle and driver. Minimize carrying valuables, check travel advisories, and be aware of your surroundings.

Sailing on a catamaran in the Bahamas

Sailing on a catamaran in the Bahamas is an incredible experience that allows you to explore the stunning beauty of this Caribbean paradise. The Bahamas consists of over 700 islands and cays, offering endless opportunities for island hopping. With a catamaran, you can effortlessly explore the diverse landscapes and unique cultures of each island, from the bustling markets of Nassau to the tranquil beaches of the Exumas .

The pros of renting a catamaran in the Bahamas

A catamaran charter in the Bahamas will make all your dreams come true if you want to enjoy a super relaxing and comfortable holiday on a boat in the Caribbean . Catamarans are generally very spacious and offer plenty of opportunities to relax. Additionally, as catamarans stand on two hulls, they are less shaky than other types of boats and you will have a much more pleasant experience on board.

The Bahamas are obviously known for their stunning sandy beaches and natural beauty, so you definitely want to make sure that you are sailing on the type of boat that allows you to safely sail closer to the coast and reach the shore safely. A catamaran rental in the Bahamas allows you to do so as catamarans have a shallow draft.

Another great thing about a catamaran hire in the Bahamas is the fact that catamarans are more flexible than other types of boats. You can either sail with the sail or drive with the engine.

The cons of renting a catamaran in the Bahamas

One of the downsides of renting a catamaran in the Bahamas is the fact that catamarans are relatively difficult to navigate in smaller spaces aka narrow marinas. As you’re probably here to discover the beautiful beaches and bays you luckily won’t have to worry about it so much. However, if you do decide to find a spot for mooring at a marina, you probably have to pay extra as catamarans are generally bigger than other types of boats.

Another thing to keep in mind when chartering a catamaran in the Bahamas is the fact that they are often lighter than other types of boats. This can slow them down. So if you’re planning a high speed vacation with an adrenaline rush, a catamaran charter in the Bahamas is probably not right for you.

Charter a private luxury catamaran in the Bahamas

The Bahamas are obviously known for their stunning white sandy beaches, turquoise waters and luxury resorts and yachts. If you have the necessary funds, charter a luxury catamaran in the Bahamas to fit right in. You might spend around 20.000 EUR per week, but get all the amenities you could dream of.

How many people can go on a catamaran in the Bahamas?

Generally speaking there are 4-12 beds on board a catamaran in the Bahamas, allowing you to host between 4 and 24 people at once. You can either go on an intimate vacation with your partner, a fun family vacation or on a trip with your friends.

When is the best time to sail on a catamaran in the Bahamas?

The best time to sail on a catamaran in the Bahamas is during the winter and early spring months, specifically from December to April. Contrary to the Mediterranean, which is a sailing paradise during spring and summer, this period is considered the peak season for sailing in the Bahama s due to favorable weather conditions. Temperatures generally range somewhere in the mid to high twenties and the easterly trade winds make for excellent sailing conditions during this time of year.

Catamaran rental prices in the Bahamas

Cheaper catamarans in the Bahamas can be rented for about 7.600 EUR per week. This is obviously already in the higher price range of a catamaran charter and not necessarily the best choice for budget travellers. If you have the necessary funds and want to charter an even more luxurious catamaran in the Bahamas, you can rent one for 76.000 EUR or even 91.000 EUR per week. These catamarans will obviously come with much more than a basic kitchen.

What kind of boat licence do I need when renting a catamaran in the Bahamas?

One great thing about sailing in the Bahamas is the fact that you don’t need a boat licence. You simply bring your documents, rent your boat, receive instructions from the charter and you’re good to go.

If you don’t feel comfortable enough to sail by yourself, you can always hire a skipper in addition to your catamaran bareboat charter in the Bahamas . The skipper will take care of navigating and operating the catamaran while you lean back and enjoy your vacation.

The best routes for catamarans in the Bahamas

When planning a 7-day catamaran route in the Bahamas , you have plenty of options to explore the islands. However, when planning your sailing adventure remember to stop by the most beautiful beaches. After all, isn’t that one of the reasons why you chose the Bahamas as a holiday destination in the first place? Here's a suggested itinerary that covers some of the top beach destinations in the Bahamas :

Day 1 - Sail from Nassau to Rose Island: Start your journey in Nassau , the capital of the Bahamas . After provisioning and completing the necessary checks with the charter, set sail towards Rose Island . This uninhabited island is known for its pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters, offering great spots for snorkelling and sunbathing.

Day 2 - Sail from Rose Island to the Exumas (Highborne Cay): Cruise south towards the Exumas, a stunning archipelago with countless breathtaking beaches. Anchor at Highborne Cay, where you'll find beautiful white sand beaches and turquoise waters. Take a stroll along the shore or relax on the beach, soaking up the sun. It is pretty secluded and can only reached by boat or helicopter, so you’ll definitely be in for a treat.

Day 3 - Sail from the Exumas (Highborne Cay) to Staniel Cay: Continue your journey through the Exumas to Staniel Cay. Here, you can visit the famous swimming pigs at Big Major Cay, where you can feed and swim with these friendly creatures. Don't miss the opportunity to explore Thunderball Grotto, a picturesque underwater cave featured in James Bond movies.

Day 4 - Sail from Staniel Cay to Compass Cay: Sail to Compass Cay, another gem in the Exumas. Enjoy a swim in the pristine waters of Rachel's Bubble Bath, a natural tidal pool, and make sure to visit the friendly nurse sharks at Compass Cay Marina. You can also relax on the stunning beaches and enjoy the tranquility of the area.

Day 5 - Sail from Compass Cay to Shroud Cay: Head to Shroud Cay, part of the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park. This uninhabited island is known for its mangrove creeks, hidden coves, and beautiful sandbars. Explore the winding mangrove channels by dinghy or kayak, and discover secluded beaches where you can unwind.

Day 6 - Sail from Shroud Cay to Warderick Wells Cay: Sail to Warderick Wells Cay, the headquarters of the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park. This protected area offers pristine beaches, hiking trails, and incredible snorkeling opportunities. Climb Boo Boo Hill for panoramic views, and spend the day exploring the park's natural wonders.

Day 7 - Sail from Warderick Wells Cay to Nassau: Head back to Nassau, where you can disembark or continue your exploration of the Bahamas. Spend your final day exploring the vibrant city, visiting attractions like the Atlantis Resort, exploring historic sites, or enjoying some shopping and dining before concluding your catamaran adventure.

Understanding the Best Time to Charter a Yacht in the Bahamas

The Bahamas has a year-round tropical climate, making it a great place to visit anytime. However, the seasons can greatly influence your yachting experience. The warm temperatures and gentle trade winds make it inviting, but the time of the year is important.

The Yacht charter season tends to be busy over Christmas and New Years with premium charter rates for these holidays.. The most popular time to charter a Yacht in the Bahamas is from late March through August, with favorable weather. Moreover the cold fronts are less in March and April offering perfect conditions for exploring the turquoise waters and beaches.

The summer months of June, July, August, September and October have advantages. Despite the hurricane season, it offers solitude and calmer waters. The best months for yacht charter in the Bahamas during the low season are May and early June before the hurricane season intensifies.

Navigating Hurricane Season

Hurricane season in the Bahamas is from June to November, peaking between August and October. Monitoring the weather and being flexible with your itinerary are key strategies.

Event-Driven Charters: Finding the Best Time to Charter a Yacht in the Bahamas

Timing your yacht in the Bahamas around local events can enhance your experience. The Junkanoo Festival in December is a cultural highlight, while the Regatta in April and May is a must-see for sailing enthusiasts. Chartering a boat during this period allows anyone to immerse in the vibrant culture.

Exploring Bahamian Destinations by Season

The best time to explore the Bahamas varies by destination. The Exumas and Nassau are appealing due to clear waters and mild weather in the winter months. Spring is perfect for visiting the Abacos, for world-class scuba diving and charming islands. In the summer, the less-visited Out Islands offer a tranquil escape, while fall provides a quiet, peaceful atmosphere to avoid crowds.

Marine Life and Water Activities: Optimal Times for Chartering a Yacht in the Bahamas

The seasons in the Bahamas affect marine life and water activities. The best months for a yacht charter in the Bahamas for snorkeling or scuba diving are November to May when the waters are clear and abundant. It’s the ideal time to explore coral reefs and encounter species.

Navigating Yacht Availability and Pricing in the Bahamas

Types of Yachts and pricing in the Bahamas fluctuate with the seasons, so planning is essential according to your preferences. During the winter season from December to April, the demand for luxury boat rentals soarr with limited availability. To secure the best deals, booking early is crucial.

Alternatively, the low season from May to November often features more yacht availability. For those who enjoy spontaneity, last-minute charter options can be appealing. However, these may come with a higher price tag or fewer choices, as popular ones may already be booked.

Savoring Bahamian Cuisine: Timing Your Culinary Experience

Experiencing the local cuisine is a highlight of any Bahamian yacht charter. Fresh Bahamian seafood , including conch and lobster, reaches its peak quality from late summer through early winter. This is the ideal time to enjoy succulent dishes crafted from the freshest ingredients. Seasonal delicacies, such as rock lobster and stone crab, are best sampled during their prime harvesting periods.

Additionally, timing your charter to coincide with local food festivals, such as the Junkanoo Festival in December or the Bahamas Carnival in May, offers a unique opportunity to dive into the island’s rich culinary traditions and vibrant scene.

Maximizing Your Yacht Charter Experience

To maximize your Bahamas charter, choose the right yacht for the season. Motor yachts are popular for their speed and comfort, allowing you to explore multiple islands easily. Planning your Bahamas itinerary around the best times ensures you experience at its finest.

The Exuma Bahamas Beach Pigs: Everything You Need to Know

When you look up the Bahamas , at least one of the images you’re likely to see is of what looks like very happy pigs swimming off a pristine Caribbean beach. I don’t know about you, but when I found out the Bahamas beach pigs weren’t just some AI creation, seeing them in person immediately went on the bucket list. I started digging into why they were there, how to get to them, and how much it cost. In this guide, I’ll reveal everything you need to know to enjoy this extraordinary experience.

Only about 25 pigs and piglets are there, roaming free and not held in captivity. Despite being wild, the pigs are extremely friendly. This is because their primary food source is the food that visitors feed them. You typically won’t see any other animals on the island, except maybe a few stray cats and the occasional goat.

Where is Pig Beach

Pig Beach is located on an uninhabited island called Big Major Cay, also known as Pig Island, part of the Exuma Cays. There have been other swimming pig attractions popping up across the Bahamas. However, these are merely tourist traps. The pigs are usually held in captivity rather than enjoying the freedom to roam as they please like the originals.

Why There Are Pigs on a Beach in the Bahamas

Pigs are not a native species to the Bahamas, so you might wonder how they ended up there. Nobody really knows for sure. But, the most popular theory is that they were moved to the uninhabited island when locals complained of their smell on the nearby farming island of Staniel Cay.

Once the pigs were moved to Big Major Cay, the winds carried the smell away from Staniel Cay, resolving the issue. The farmers would have to boat to the island every day to feed the pigs, which led to the pigs swimming out to greet their providers.

Another story that could explain the Bahamas beach pigs is that the pigs swam to the small island when the ship they were on was wrecked. Some also believe that early settlers dropped the pigs off on Big Major Cay to store them as food with the plan to pick them up later but they never managed to do it.

Where to Stay to See the Bahamas Beach Pigs

There are three different islands that I recommend staying at to see the Bahamas beach pigs: Staniel Cay, Fowl Cay, and Great Exuma . Staniel Cay and Fowl Cay are a mere 10-minute boat ride from Pig Island, but they are tiny and require a seaplane to reach.

Great Exuma is the largest island in the Exuma Cays, home to the city of Georgetown and an international airport. If you are uncomfortable renting your own boat to explore the Cays, I recommend staying on this island rather than the two smaller islands. The boat ride from Great Exuma to Pig Island is approximately two hours but usually involves other stops along the way.

The Bahamas offers some of the best all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. Below I’ll go over a few resorts on the different islands that would all be excellent choices for your stay that includes a visit to Pig Beach.

Fowl Cay Resort

If you’re someone who wants secluded luxury with everything you could possibly need included, Fowl Cay Resort is the place for you. This resort is on its own private island, just a few minutes from Pig Beach. To make the trip to Big Major Cay even more convenient, a power boat is included in the price of your stay.

At Fowl Cay Resort, you’ll stay in a private villa equipped with unlimited snacks and drinks. Airport transfer from Staniel Cay, fishing gear, all your meals and beverages, access to tons of water sports equipment, and much more are included. The opportunities are endless at Fowl Cay for creating a dream vacation.

Staniel Cay Yacht Club

This resort has something for everyone, whether you’re visiting by boat or airplane. You can also purchase a package plan with inclusions similar to Fowl Cay resort, such as your own power boat, three meals a day, and equipment rentals to explore the island.

Since Staniel Cay Yacht Club has its own marina, you can leave for a tour to Pig Beach and other Exuma destinations right from the property. Reef sharks and stingrays also frequent the area, so you might just see some marine life right from your front porch. There are four different restaurants on the property that offer top-notch dining experiences too.

Book your stay: https://stanielcay.com/

Sandals Emerald Bay, Great Exuma

Located on Great Exuma, Sandals Emerald Bay is a large, all-inclusive resort that will have you wishing you could stay forever. Tours to Big Major Cay will pick you up right from the resort, making it a breeze to see the swimming pigs. You can also enjoy many activities that are included in the rates like scuba diving, golf, sailing, snorkeling, kayaking, and windsurfing.

You can choose between several different accommodation options, including standard rooms, honeymoon suites, and villas with butler service. There are 11 restaurants so you’ll never have to eat the same thing during your stay. Although the food is so good, you might want to return to some restaurants more than once.

How to Get to Pig Beach

There are two ways to get to Pig Beach. You can either take a tour or rent a boat from Staniel Cay. Tours are available departing from almost anywhere in the Bahamas. However, unless you stay on one of the three islands listed above, you’ll have to take a seaplane to Staniel Cay, which makes the price much higher.

Renting Your Own Boat

Renting your own boat to get to Pig Beach is only recommended from Staniel Cay if you have a lot of boating experience and know how to navigate the islands. If that’s you, this option is ideal for exploring more of the Exuma Cays, going beyond Pig Island.

You can travel at your own pace and it’s possible that you’ll save some money by renting a boat. Plus, you can also revisit the beach pigs as often as you’d like. If you aren’t comfortable navigating the islands on your own, some boat rental companies will provide you with a captain. Check with your resort to find out which boat rental options are near you.

Bahamas Beach Pigs Tours

Most tours to the Bahamas beach pigs come from Great Exuma. This is typically an all-day tour via a power boat that can include stops at Compass Cay to swim with nurse sharks, snorkeling at Thunderball Grotto, a stop at Iguana Island, and much more. Some of the most popular tours are:

  • Swimming with Pigs
  • Staniel Cay Adventures
  • Exuma Water Sports

Best Time to Visit the Beach Pigs

You can visit the beach pigs year-round as the weather is always warm in the Bahamas. However, you should know that hurricane season is from June 1st to November 30th. If a storm comes, tours will be canceled, and the pigs will be taken to shelter for safety.

Tours generally run from 9 am to 5 pm. Therefore, if you rent your own boat, the least busy times to visit are early in the morning. The pigs are very active and eager to be fed, so you’ll get the most activity and love from the pigs at this time. The pigs become full and worn out as the day progresses, making them a little lazier. You most likely won’t see them swimming or being interactive by the afternoon.

Cost to Swim with the Bahamas Beach Pigs

The cost of swimming with the pigs will vary depending on where you’re coming from and your method of transportation. The cheapest way to visit the pigs is to stay on Staniel Cay and rent a boat to get to Big Major Cay. However, you’ll have more to do and can stop at multiple popular destinations in the Cays by taking a tour from Great Exuma.

Here is an average cost breakdown for a few different options to see the beach pigs:

  • Renting a boat: $250-$400 per day
  • Half-day tours: $150-$200
  • Full-day tours: $300-$375
  • Full-day tours from Nassau via speed boat: $350-$500

Other Things to Do Near the Swimming Pigs

The Exuma Cays have over 300 islands. There is much more to do in the area than swimming with pigs. You will likely see a few of the attractions mentioned here if you take a tour. In case you don’t get the chance to visit the beach pigs, these are some of the other things you should consider doing:

  • Swim with the Compass Cay reef sharks
  • Snorkel in Thunderball Grotto
  • Feed the rock lizards at Lizard Island (Leaf Cay or Allen’s Cay)
  • Go on a fishing trip
  • Visit one of the many secluded sandbars
  • Snorkel over a plane wreck off of Staniel Cay
  • Take an air tour
  • Dive for conches
  • Wander around the Exumas Cays Land and Sea National Park
  • Snorkel with a sunken mermaid and piano
