On board Sunreef catamaran Great White with tennis superstar Rafael Nadal

International tennis superstar Rafael Nadal had his 24-metre Sunreef power catamaran Great White delivered to him in 2020. In this exclusive interview, BOAT finds out how Nadal uses his boat to enjoy life on the water in between sessions on the court...

He’s a singles tennis star, but when it comes to hulls, Rafael Nadal is now very much a doubles man. His 23.9-metre 80 Sunreef Power catamaran Great White features a flybridge with a bar and barbeque, a stern garage for a jet ski, an elegant interior in cream and coffee tones, and 360 square metres of living space.

His passion for boats began in childhood, zipping around his home island of Mallorca in his father’s Riviera power boat. He began his own yachting career with a Princess V62, followed in 2017 by Monte Carlo Yachts ’ MCY 76 – nipping home between gruelling tournaments for short snorkelling trips or a night of peace on board. But chartering a Sunreef 74 sailing catamaran made him realise what two hulls can offer. “I met great crew and visited amazing places in the Bahamas,” he recalls. “Those seven days with my family on board were unforgettable – especially thanks to the huge amount of space and comfort. Those were the main reasons that now I own one of Sunreef’s catamarans.”

For Nadal it was all about space. "I have only owned monohulls and on a catamaran I was captivated by the huge amount of space. Honestly, in my small port [in Mallorca], the 80 Sunreef Power is the biggest boat that can dock there. It’s great for me that I can have it here in Porto Cristo, located in front of my house. The huge amount of space that my catamaran has is unreachable by any monohull up to [30 metres]. That is for me the main reason for switching from monohull to multihull."

Nadal said he intended to use  Great White  around the coastline of his home island Mallorca as a break from his intense training schedule. “The pressure of competing every single day is high, you can’t hide that,” he said. “When I come back home, I have the chance to go out and spend maybe just one day away from everything without thinking about tennis, just diving and spending the night on board.”

Designed in-house, the fully customised catamaran is intended for long cruises and features “bold, contemporary hull styling,” the yard said. "I wanted to feel like in my own house," said Nadal on the interior concept. "Of course I had some special requests. I didn’t want a Jacuzzi on the flybridge, because I prefer open spaces. I don’t need features like Jacuzzis on board – I have water around the boat to swim in and enjoy."

Key exterior details include stainless steel portlights, high bulwarks and subtle ambient lighting, as well as a superyacht tender garage large enough to hold a tender, Jet Ski and other water toys. Accommodation on board  Great White  is for a total of eight guests in four cabins, with the owner’s suite sitting in the starboard hull alongside another guest cabin and the crew quarters. Nadal’s master suite features a walk-in dressing room, sofa, flip-down ceiling TV above the double bed and a private fold-down balcony.

“Every time I have the chance, I come back to Mallorca and get on the water. I have always loved the feeling of adventure a boat offers you. You feel free.”

“As someone from an island, as I am, the sea is part of our lives and it’s not a secret that I love the sea. Every time I am at home in Mallorca I try to go out and find that time where I can just enjoy my time on a boat,” he said.

Last month, Rafael Nadal received his fully custom Sunreef 80 Power and things appear to be going swimmingly. The Polish shipyard has released pictures of the 34-year-old tennis pro aboard the luxury catamaran and he’s smiling like he just won a grand slam. That’s because, in the marine world, he did. Great White represents an ace in high-end multihulls.

Nadal first commissioned the 80-footer back in July 2019. The ultra-modern cruiser was specially designed for the current World No. 2 and his wife Maria by the Sunreef team. The all-rounder combines five-star comfort with exceptional seaworthiness and has an epic interior fit for a tennis king.

The yacht’s sizeable living space spans just shy of 4,000 square feet and is one of the largest in class. It has been fully decked out with no expense spared to the exacting standards of keen yachting enthusiast Rafa. The centerpiece is a stunning master stateroom, which features a flip-down ceiling TV above the bed, a walk-in wardrobe, a plush sofa and a private fold-out balcony where the Spaniard can catch some rays. The craft can sleep up to eight guests in total across three roomy cabins and a starboard owner’s suite. Of course, there’s also room for crew.

Elsewhere, there’s a generous light-filled saloon complete with luxe contemporary furnishings, a dining space that seats eight people, and a lounge area with two 77-inch televisions installed back-to-back for obligatory tennis watching.

Outside, meanwhile, Great White has a full-beam alfresco dining space at the stern with its own weatherproof TV and a luxurious flybridge where guests can lounge about on big sun pads and enjoy a bar and yet another pop-up TV. She also sports a wide hydraulic swim platform that offers an extra sunbathing spot by the water, plus an aft garage that holds jet-skis, water toys and a requisite tender.

As to be expected, the cat’s exteriors are as equally impressive. Built in composite, Great White sports a sleek silhouette and clean lines for which Sunreef is renowned. She’s fitted with two 1,200 hp engines that help her run like a star athlete and give a top speed of 24 knots or cruise speed of 14 knots.

Does Rafael Nadal own a yacht? All you need to know about one of the Spaniard's biggest luxury purchases ever

R afael Nadal is one of the richest tennis players of all time with a net worth of around $220 Million (according to celebritynetworth.com). The Spaniard has achieved immense success through tennis, which has enabled him to make some expensive purchases, none more so than his yacht 'Great White'.

Nadal brought his yacht 'Great White' on his birthday in June 2020. The Spaniard had ordered it the previous year so he could receive it as a birthday present. Nadal owned a yacht called 'Beethoven', which he sold to purchase the 'Great White', his most expensive luxury purchase to date.

The 'Great White' is a work of Nadal's imagination and creativity. It is a huge yacht, over 24 meters in length, with twin engines boasting 1200 horsepower each. Nadal is a keen yachtsman and played a big role in getting the interiors of the yacht designed according to his liking. The luxury yacht includes a flip-down ceiling television, a walk-in wardrobe, a sports corner with a 77-inch television, and a jet ski. Along with these facilities, the yacht includes bedrooms and a dining table to make him more homely. This yacht cost the Spaniard $6 Million.

Nadal often vacations at sea during his time off and prefers to holiday with his family in Mallorca. The Spaniard is a sea-lover and has admitted in the past that he likes to spend his time on his boats. The 'Great White' yacht is designed by Sunreef Yachts, whose president, Francis Lapp, is close to Rafael Nadal.

Rafael Nadal is a self-proclaimed sea-lover

Rafael Nadal hails from Mallorca, located off the coast of Spain. The Spaniard has been surrounded by water all his life and enjoys relaxing on his boats. Nadal has shared in the past that he loves the sea as it is part of the islanders' lives:

"As someone from an island as I am, the sea is part of our lives and it's not a secret that I love the sea. Every time I am at home in Mallorca I try to go out and find that time where I can just enjoy my time on a boat," Nadal said.

The president of the Sunreef Yachts, Francis Lapp, has a long friendship with Nadal and helped the Spaniard create the yacht of his dreams. Lapp admitted that he and his team worked extra hard to create the yacht that Nadal demanded.

"My team in Gdańsk made every effort to create the yacht Rafa and his wife Maria dreamed of. I am convinced that they will have a great time with their friends and family on board," Lapp said.

Lapp further added that Nadal has been passionate about yachting since childhood and never misses a chance to go to the sea with his friends. The president of the Sunreef Yachts also claimed that this has been Nadal's dream project for a while.

"Rafael Nadal has been passionate about yachting since childhood and seizes every opportunity to go out into the sea with friends and family. The idea to build a customized catamaran has been part of the superstar athlete's plans for a while," Lapp added.

The $6 Million 'Great White' is the most expensive luxury purchase that Nadal has made in his life. The Spaniard was seen holidaying in the Balearic Islands with his family shortly after purchasing the yacht.

Last year, international tennis superstar Rafael Nadal famously sold his US$3.3 million yacht known as the Beethoven. Not long after, he ordered another custom-made 80-foot luxury yacht: a Sunreef 80 Catamaran with a price tag of US$6.2 million.

The brand new water toy arrived in his hometown of Mallorca, Spain, just in time for his 34 th birthday earlier this month. Unsurprisingly, the world no.2 men’s singles tennis player took it for a spin to celebrate the occasion with his newly wedded wife (as of last October), Xisca Perelló.

“As someone from an island, as I am, the sea is part of our lives and it’s not a secret that I love the sea. Every time I am at home in Mallorca I try to go out and find that time where I can just enjoy my time on a boat,” Rafa said of his splurge.

Boasting 4,000 square feet of space, the yacht is designed for long cruises and can accommodate up to 12 people on board. It is powered by twin 1,200 hp engines that allows the vessel to reach a top speed of 24 knots or cruise speed of 14 knots.

There’s an expansive flybridge with a fully equipped wet bar, a barbecue area and a lounge with sun pads. Plus, the sizeable garage can store a number of jet skis and other water toys. But the interiors are where the 19-time Grand Slam winner lends his personal touch.

yacht nadal mallorca

Sleek, modern and sophisticated, the interiors feature a large main deck saloon with direct access to the front terrace, four guest cabins with en-suite bathrooms and an exquisite owner’s suite with a private fold-out balcony. We’d imagine Rafa getting his tan on while enjoying the view from the modern owner’s sea terrace.

Rafael Nadal upgrades his boat to Sunreef 80 Power catamaran

Sunreef Yachts has announced its latest high-profile customer, after Rafael Nadal ordered an 80 Power catamaran

Tennis star and keen boater Rafael Nadal will be the proud owner of one of the first Sunreef 80 Power catamarans after buying into the Polish yard’s new flagship range.

As comfortable on the water as he is on a clay court, Nadal cites his childhood in Mallorca as the reason why he’s so keen to spend his downtime boating.

“As someone from an island as I am, the sea is part of our lives and it’s not a secret that I love the sea,” he said. “Every time I am at home in Mallorca I try to go out and find that time where I can just enjoy my time on a boat.”

Having previously chartered a Sunreef yacht, the 18-time Grand Slam winner is well acquainted with the Polish yard’s work.

“I am very happy to [join the] Sunreef Yachts family and would like to thank [yard founder and president] Francis Lapp for making this possible,” he added.

The Sunreef 80 Power is making its public debut at the 2019 Cannes Yachting Festival , although Nadal’s fully-customised version will not be delivered until next year.

Nadal also owns an MCY76 called Beethoven , which was listed for sale earlier this year with Camper & Nicholsons, asking €2.6million.

RAFAEL NADAL has created his own slice of tennis history.

The Spanish legend , 35, claimed a record 21st Grand Slam title after defeating Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open final.

Rafael Nadal has made history by securing a record 21st Grand Slam title with the Australian Open

But off the court, Nadal lives a life of luxury generated by the wads of money he has earned from being an ace on it.

Rafael has made a whopping $203million during his illustrious career , with more to come after his epic win Down Under.

He lives in a stunning beachfront Majorcan mansion, which he paid around $4m for in 2013.

The Real Madrid super fan splashed the cash on a private jet - a Cessna Citation CJ2+ that flies him to tournaments around the globe that cost $6.7m.

Nadal can also travel by sea in his stunning $6.1m 80 Sunreef Power catamaran, a super yacht he had custom-made.

He has had insurance worker Maria Francisca Perello by his side throughout his success, with the pair finally marrying in 2019 after 14 years together.

A home with a view

Although Nadal likes to remain private, like many professional athletes he gave us a glimpse into his amazing home in the Balearic Islands during lockdown in 2020.

Found in Porto Cristo, Manacor, he paid $4m for the stunning beach property that spans just over 1,000 square metres.

It was reported that Nadal spent seven years renovating the mansion, and pulled down some of the buildings before it became a dream place to live.

The design, from what we've seen on Instagram, is minimalist with all the essentials Nadal needs.

He has a fully-equipped gym to keep on top of his fitness.

While in his downtime, he can enjoy views of the Mediterranean sea and idyllic coves from his window.

Time to fly

It's amazing to think that in 2010, Nadal tried to get on an economy flight to the Match for Africa until rival Roger Federer gave him a lift in his private jet.

Not wanting to get stuck again, the 13-time French Open winner decided to buy his own plane - a Cessna Citation CJ2+ worth £5million.

Only 223 of the jets were made, and it costs around $300,000-per-year to maintain.

The Cessna Citation CJ2+ can accommodate eight passengers in luxury.

Not forgetting what Federer did for him, Nadal gave Viktor Troicki a lift to London in his jet after beating him in the Mercedes Cup final the day before.

Troicki later thanked Nadal for allowing him to fly with him and shared a snap with the former World No1 and a pilot on Twitter.

"Thanks to great champion @RafaelNadal for giving us lift to London!" he said.

Nadal splashed around £5million on a Cessna Citation CJ2+

By land and by sea

Back in 2019, Nadal traded in what yacht for another . He sold his 76-foot Italian-built MCY 76 motor yacht he called Beethoven for a cool £2million.

Then, he put that money towards buying an amazing customised 80 Sunreef Power catamaran for $6.1m.

Built for long cruises and not skimping on full comfort, the 80 Sunreef Power is powered by two 1,200 hp engines.

It has a personal jet-ski garage and a 39-foot beam with a superyacht-style flybridge that offers a vast living space big enough to house a hot tub, a wet bar and the waterfall-fed pool.

The main deck can be set up in a variety of ways, dependent on your dining needs with different seating, an open plan kitchen and a bar.

The master suite, which is also on the main deck, offers sea views, as well as natural light thanks to the skylight overhead.

It has an en-suite bathroom with a shower, a spacious closet and a desk.

There are four guest cabins and two crew cabins, with up to 12 guests able to be accommodated at one time.

Sharing his life

Despite spending most of his time travelling around the world, the one constant in his life is Maria, 33.

Better known as Xisca Perello , she has never been one to hog the limelight or a celebrity lifestyle, though Nadal himself enjoyed hanging out with Spain's World Cup stars in 2010 with the trophy.

"It's not a world I want to be part of, nor do I think Rafa would have chosen to be with a woman who looked for that in life," she once said.

They met in the early 2000s, and were firm friends before they started dating in 2005.

They married in 2019 in a star-studded ceremony in front of around 350 guests at the La Fortaleza castle in Majorca.

Celebrities in tow to watch the couple's nuptials included actors Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman and Hugh Laurie.

But, you'll never see her on the circuit cheering Rafael on.

Habe fun and enjoy it ❤️❤️

Enjoy your new “toy” with family and friends, Rafa! ❤️ your logo, looks elegant👍

Enjoy, Rafael. What a sleek, beautiful catamaran. It suits you. Let us continue to work to get this pandemic under control. How fantastic to get some r and r on the Mediterranean. Best of luck as Spain and the world recovers. The struggles continue, while our spirits remain strong and unbroken.👏💪🤛👍🎾❤️

Hoping someone asks why he chose to name it Great White. Don’t recall that he has ever expressed an interest in sharks.

Perhaps you want to inject race into the conversation. Forget it. Don’t think there’s a racist bone in Rafa’s body.

Absolutely not! Never thought of that angle at all. I find the suggestion insulting and bizarre. Am merely interested in the name. End of story.

LOL I was thinking shark also. I never wanna meet a Great White.

The sad part about many sharks is that they are caught, their fins are cut off and they are thrown back into the ocean to die. For soup!!!! HORRIBLE.

Rafa many safe trips whilst on board your new yacht. Congratulations. Sorry you’ve had intrusive press again pointing cameras at you.

Congratulations on your new boat! Good luck with it!

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY SWEETHEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) LOVELY PHOTOS…..ENJOY EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) XOXOXOXOXOXOOX

Totally irrelevant point, but I really like Maribel’s hair in that photo!

C. Javier

Have mixed feelings about these photos. On the one hand it’s very nice to see Maria Francisca looking so well. It has been several months and we missed seeing her. On the other hand the Nadals undoubtedly did not invite the press to come photograph them.

In any case happy for them that their catamaran has arrived and with the restrictions being gradually lifted that they can enjoy some pleasant voyages.

Rafa being highlighted on WNBC at French Open, I think it’s 2006. Not sure 13:06 NY time

Disfrútalo junto con tu familia, es con quien mejor lo puedes hacer, enhorabuena!!!

Where Does Rafael Nadal Live Now?

Rafael Nadal’s magnificent home is situated in Porto Cristo, a charming coastal town on the eastern side of Mallorca, Spain. While we won’t reveal the exact address, we can tell you that his residence is nestled in the lap of luxury, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Mediterranean coast.

Tucked away near a yacht club in this idyllic coastal town on Mallorca Island, Rafa Nadal’s abode has become the stuff of legends. Spanning a vast 7,000-square-meter plot of land and comprising four distinct volumes and a combination of two-story buildings and one-story structures, the house has seamlessly integrated with its natural surroundings, perched majestically atop seaside cliffs.

Rafael Nadal’s House Details

For Rafael Nadal, this place is not just a house; it’s a deeply personal haven that oozes sentimental value, as it is built on land acquired a decade ago, linked to the heirs of one of the owners of the Caves of Drach. In the past ten years, this plot of land has been transformed beyond recognition to meet the needs of Rafa and his family.

The architectural design showcases a contemporary style, with a predominant use of concrete and glass. These materials are popular in modern architecture for their versatility and aesthetic appeal. Notably, the building boasts a flat roof, a hallmark of modernism, celebrated for its simplicity and functionality.

Each floor of this luxury mansion features expansive windows and terraces, providing an unobstructed view of the open waters and the enchanting Porto Cristo. The impressive infinity pool, which harmoniously blends with its natural surroundings, offers a luxurious oasis while gifting its residents unparalleled views of the captivating coastline.

Although our primary focus is Rafael Nadal’s magnificent residence in Porto Cristo, it’s worth mentioning that the tennis star also owns other properties. In 2013, Rafael Nadal made a savvy real estate move by purchasing his Mallorca haven at a remarkable €4 million, well below the initial asking price of €5.7 million. This beautiful 2-story property with 3 bedrooms boasts Mallorca-style interior and exterior, complete with a gym and fitness area, catering to Nadal’s active lifestyle.

Insider Today

Rafael Nadal says he offered Andy Murray the use of his yacht to relax while the Scot continues his road back from injury.

Murray is competing in the Rafa Nadal Open in Mallorca, Spain, his third singles tournament of the year since undergoing major hip surgery in January.

On Tuesday, he beat the No. 3 seed, Norbert Gombos, 6-3, 6-4, his first win against a top-150 player this year, to set up a third-round match with Matteo Viola.

Murray had Wednesday afternoon to relax, however, and Nadal, who eased passed the Australian John Millman in the first round of the US Open that day, says he texted his friend to see if he wanted to use his boat.

"I just texted him when I knew that he was going to play at the academy," Nadal told reporters after beating Millman, according to Sky Sports .

Nadal, a yacht super-fan, recently bought a custom 80-foot luxury yacht that boasts a spa pool and a wet bar. Though that's not set to be delivered until 2020, he's known to climb aboard his other million-dollar vessels, go on vacation, and live on the sea. And now he's offered that lifestyle to Murray.

"I just texted him a couple days ago saying, 'If you need anything, just let me know. If you want to go out with the boat or anything, I can help you, just let me know,'" Nadal said.

Nadal also revealed his delight at seeing Murray back on the court, especially at his own challenger tournament in his hometown of Manacor in Mallorca.

"I'm very happy to have Andy Murray playing there," he said, according to USA Today . "That's great news for us, of course, but for him and the world of sport, to have him back on the tennis court is great news. I wish him all the very best."

Nadal and Murray's close relationship goes back a long way. Murray's mother, Judy Murray, told the Tennis Channel last year that they had been friends since they were 15 and 16.

"The two of them are great friends," she said. "They play this thing called 'FIFA Championship Manager' across continents with each other.

"It's one of those things where you come in, and Andy's sitting on the sofa, and you think he's talking to himself, and he's got this tablet or whatever in front of him, and you go, 'Who're you talking to?' 'Rafa.'"
