Revealed: The 25 Destinations That Turkish Airlines Plans To Serve
Hawaiian airlines offers travel waivers for passengers impacted by tropical storm hone, delta air lines ranked as leading employer in georgia & michigan.
Italians are renowned for being at the forefront of design innovation . The new "Air Yacht" concept, developed by the Italian design studio Pierpaolo Lazzarini, is the latest proof of this incredible capacity. As the name suggests, the new Air Yacht is both a yacht that can sail the sea and a private jet that can fly its owner across the world. Let's have a closer look at this astonishing piece of futuristic design together.
The structure of the Sky Yacht
It might sound like sci-fiction, but it is true. Or, at least, the blueprint is already a reality. The Italian design studio Lazzarini has developed a luxurious and eco-friendly flying yacht. But what would it look like?
Imagine a 150-meter-long vessel connected by four bridges to two side blimps for a total width of 80 meters. Each of the two floating blimps would be divided into hives, or cells, acting as helium compartments. Indeed, when the private owner of the Air Yacht wants to take to the sky, all they have to do is release helium, compressed in tanks, in the two blimps.
On the other hand, when the owner is tired of seeing the world from above, they can decide to sail the sea. Indeed, in the lower part, the two balloons incorporate inflatable bases to allow the Air Yacht to float on the water. The depressurization of helium and its ballast anchor enables the Air Yacht to sail at a speed of five knots.
Four counter-rotating engines of 950 horsepower (hp) each are attached to the outer sides of the blimps. These are powered by ultra-light batteries and solar panels, allowing the Air Yacht to fly at a maximum speed of 60 knots for more than two days straight at zero emissions . Additionally, the entire structure has been designed to be built using carbon fiber, a high-strength and lightweight material.
With the use of helium, lightweight batteries, solar panels for the propulsion of the four engines, and lightweight carbon for the structure, the Air Yacht is at the forefront of sustainable air travel. In a statement, Lazzarini design studio stated:
"With the Air Yacht, there is a way to sail the sky without emissions damaging the future"
The Sky yacht's living spaces
If the external structure of the Air Yacht has the 'wow' factor, wait until you see what's inside...
The central, 80-meter-long, torpedo-shaped structure hosts a spacious living room and a dining room. Four carbon-made bridges, two on each side of the main structure, connect it to the two side blimps. Here, the owner's guests can find ten en-suite staterooms, five in each balloon. All ten suites offer breathtaking 360-degree views. The owner's master cabin, shown in the photo below, is instead located in the Air Yacht's central part, also offering a stunning 360-degree view.
Therefore, the Air Yacht can host up to 22 guests in 11 cabins. On the rooftop, guests will enjoy a swimming pool, while a helipad enables helicopters to take off and land to transfer the owner and their guests to the dry land. Indeed, the Air Yacht's dimensions prevent it from being parked at a marina. Besides the helipad, the Air Yacht also features a retractable staircase, allowing the guests to board a smaller boat to reach the harbor.
The estimated price of the Air Yacht is a whopping $627,511,500. Pierpaolo Lazzarini has promised the private owner who has commissioned the Air Yacht, a German businessman, to have a first-scale model prototype lifted in the air by the end of 2022. Additionally, a series of varying designs with different lengths is in the early phases of the engineering and prototyping process.

The flying megayacht: Italian designer devises exclusive catamaran blimp
The aerospace industry is currently living through an era of innovation, unlike anything it has seen in recent years. From drones and air taxis to sea gliders and new clean propulsion technologies, it seems that the floodgates of creativity are wide open following decades of slow but steady incremental advances. Even airships may be about to stage a comeback .
This passion for innovation is encouraging entrepreneurs from across the globe to propose ever more outlandish concepts — one of which is the eye-catching Air Yacht, a hybrid vehicle that looks like a crossover between an airship and a catamaran.
For more TPG news delivered each morning to your inbox, sign up for our daily newsletter .
This futuristic aircraft is the work of Italian designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini, founder of Rome -based Lazzarini Design Studio, which has designed a number of innovative projects for the automotive, yachting and aerospace industries.
Composed of two large parallel blimps linked together by carbon fiber bridges that hold the whole structure together, the amphibious Air Yacht would be able to move almost seamlessly through the air and water. Passengers and cargo would travel in a rigid, aerodynamic cabin between the two blimp structures.
This levitating contraption, which would be powered by hydrogen and solar power from its rooftop panels, would be able to reach speeds of up 70 knots (nearly 81 mph) when flying and 5 knots (almost 6 mph) when sailing, its designers say.
The choice of hydrogen is an interesting one, as other recent airship projects have opted to use helium instead of hydrogen.
Asked about this decision, a spokesperson at the design studio said it opted for hydrogen due to its larger lifting power, which makes it possible to limit the volume of the blimps. Despite hydrogen being flammable, current technologies and materials make it possible to use the gas safely and securely, the studio says.
While the original concept measured a whopping 265 meters (869 feet) long and was capable of carrying 200 passengers, the latest iteration is much more compact at 100 meters (328 feet) long. (Presumably, it would have a somewhat lower payload, too.)
The Air Yacht has a stated flying endurance of 48 hours, and it is being designed to allow for boarding and deboarding while on the move. Helicopters would be able to land on a helipad located on top of the cabin to drop off or pick up passengers, the studio says.
Given the limited number of travelers with access to helicopters, it's not surprising that the aircraft concept is targeted at wealthy individuals as a flying megayacht of sorts. The luxe cabin design features a shipowner's suite that occupies the central space and provides 360-degree views. Additionally, there are five smaller suites, plus a large area for lounging and dining.
Although Lazzarini Design Studio has yet to secure investors for the Air Yacht, the studio is moving forward with testing a 30-meter (98-foot) scale model in Germany later this year.
There will likely be some unexpected challenges in this next phase of the Air Yacht's production journey, and only time will tell whether this latest aircraft will help spark a renewed interest in airships.

You Can Now Buy a Flying Superyacht—for $86 Million
In the world of transportation, there are a few universal laws: Cars drive, planes fly, and boats sail. But a new flying superyacht from Lazzarini Design Studio may soon change everything we thought we knew about travel. As reported by CNN , the concept vessel, named Plectrum , is designed with hydrofoil technology, which is best described as an an underwater fin, that allows the boat to lift off of the water’s surface and “fly” at top speeds. To do this, three hydrogen-powered motors capable of 5,000 horsepower each push the yacht up from underneath.
Video courtesy of Lazzarini Design Studio.
“We like to remember that in 1964, shipbuilding was already capable of similar vessel construction,” the design team said in a statement. Hydrofoil technology, specifically, dates back even further—all the way to 1906. For those who follow sailing, the speciality vessels are most commonly seen at America’s Cup , an international sailing competition, which is what inspired this new creation. However, most of these vessels don’t even come close to the size Lazzarini Design Studio is proposing. The AC75 , the model used in America’s Cup, is 75 feet long. Plectrum , on the other hand, is imagined at 246 feet. For this reason, if it were to be built, it wouldn’t come cheap: The designers expect it to cost around $86 million.
The massive boat holds multiple bedrooms, a pool, and even a garage for a car.
Still, according to Lazzarini, the hydrofoil technology would allow the boat to travel significantly faster than other similarly sized vessels. As CNN reports, designers believe the boat could get up to 75 knots (about 86 miles per hour). Amenities like a helipad, beach club, swimming pool, six guest cabins, and an owner’s suite are also included in the four-deck concept. Of course, building a hydrofoil of this size would be a considerable challenge; nonetheless, Lazzarini Design Studio remains confident that if a buyer is found, the flying superyacht could be constructed within two years.

Candela supplies flying electric ships to Saudi Arabia’s NEOM
In a landmark deal, the Candela P-12, the world’s first electric hydrofoil ship, will service the planned water network in NEOM, the gigantic, sustainable development taking shape in Northwest Saudi Arabia. NEOM has procured an initial batch of 8 of the foiling, electric shuttle ships, making it the largest announced order in Candela’s history.
“The P-12 is designed to create zero-emission water transport systems which have significant improvements over traditional water commuting” says Gustav Hasselskog, CEO and founder of Candela.
“Unlike legacy systems with large, slow, and energy-inefficient conventional ferries, the Candela P-12 is a smaller and faster unit, allowing much more frequent departures and quicker journeys for passengers. All daily necessities and services will be just a short boat commute away.”
Candela P-12 was launched last year and is set to debut in Stockholm’s public transport during fall 2024.
Flying above the waves on computer-guided underwater wings, hydrofoils, the P-12 uses 80% less energy than conventional ships, allowing it to combine long range and high speed for the first time in an electric vessel. With a speed of 25 knots and more than 2 hours of endurance, the Candela P-12 holds the distinction of being the fastest and longest-range electric passenger ship to date.
The hydrofoils also unlock a new level of comfort. Passengers will fly smoothly over the Red Sea, as the P-12’s digital flight control system balances the ship 100 times per second by adjusting the hydrofoils’ angle of attack, keeping it stable even in winds and waves.
As fuel usage rather than the manufacturing phase makes up the bulk of a ships’ environmental impact, energy efficiency is crucial to curb emissions. Since Candela’s foiling vessels use 80% less energy than conventional ships of the same size, a life cycle analysis performed by the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm concluded that a P-12 will emit 97.5% less CO2 during its lifetime compared to a conventional diesel vessel of the same size.
The electric Candela C-POD motors, located in pods underwater, are exceptionally silent and create minimal disturbance for marine wildlife. When flying, the P-12 creates only a negligible wake, allowing for quicker journeys where conventional ships are speed-restricted due to their massive and damaging wakes.
“We’re extremely proud to provide a vessel system designed with both passengers and the environment in mind. Short waiting times, quick connections, and a very enjoyable experience without taxing the environment with wakes, emissions, and noise will revolutionize how we travel on water,” said Gustav Hasselskog of Candela.
The first batch of 8 vessels will be delivered in 2025 and early 2026.

The Icon is fitted with foils that ensure smooth cruising across the water with minimal drag and maximum efficiency and speed. In fact, BMW says the wings reduce the energy requirement by up to 80 percent compared to a conventional planing boat.
The 43-footer is also equipped with a powerful electric propulsion system that runs on high-voltage batteries supplied by BMW. A pair of 100 kW electric motors convert the 240 kWh of energy supplied by six batteries from the BMW i3 for a range of more than 50 nautical miles and a cruising speed of 24 knots. Of course, the electric vessel navigates the seas silently, smoothly, and cleanly.
Like any good bimmer, the Icon will be ultra comfortable. With a beam of nearly 15 feet, the newcomer has a generous aft entertaining area and a very spacious lounge entrance. The lounge is adorned with designer furniture and a kaleidoscopic carpet that uses metal sheeting to reflect sunlight like waves on the sea. The yacht also sports 360-degree rotating seats and a tablet-based infotainment system. There’s also a 32-inch, 6K touchscreen display in the central command station that emulates the BMW iDrive operating system. Everything from the mileage to the weather can be ascertained via voice commands.
Sounds like the Icon could be a hit.

Lazzarini's New Superyacht Has a 'Gaping Hole' in the Middle. The Lazzarini Air Yacht is designed to include two 150-metre-long blimps that hold 14,125,867 cubic feet of helium. The helium is kept in a hive structure, so you can dismiss that image of an exploding Zeppelin from your mind (besides, that was hydrogen, not helium).
Italian design studio Lazzarini has unveiled a flying superyacht concept powered by helium, named Air Yacht. Constructed in carbon fibre, the concept is made up of two 150 metre airships that are connected via four bridges to a central 80 metre hull. The two "floating balloons" are divided into hives that store helium gas.
However, most of these vessels don't even come close to the size Lazzarini Design Studio is proposing. The AC75, the model used in America's Cup, is 75 feet long. Plectrum, on the other hand ...
